One hundred years

Chatterbox: Inkwell

One hundred years

One hundred years ago, a mysterious rift opened up in Northern Africa, releasing creatures from dimensions untold into this world. These organisms, which later became known as Exofauna, quickly spread across the globe. Underestimated by humanity, they overpowered us, forcing us into major population centers and claiming the Earth as their own.

However, like an immune system adapting to a foreign disease, it seemed the universe provided humanity with a way to combat this new threat. The opening of an interdimensional fissure caused a sudden imbalance of cosmic energy, and humanity changed. People began being born with abilities never before seen in our species. Superpowers, some would call them.

Today, about half of humanity possesses one of these supernatural abilities. Some choose to use them selfishly and for their own personal gain. Others choose to hide them, yearning for the normal life of their ancestors. And others still... choose to fight.

Candrama Institute is the premier location for young souls willing and wishing to use their gifts for the good of Earth and Earthlings. Built high in the Himalayas on the foundations of an ancient shaolin temple, it is headed by the legendary supernatural monk Master Pahada. Password: Rift.

Here, students are trained to defend those who are defenseless, whether it be from the Exofauna or from those who would take advantage of their destructive forces to wreak havoc on the world.

~~~
Greetings, and thank you for applying to Candrama Institute. If the results from your prep school are to be believed, and I'm sure they are, then you are more than capable of holding your own at this school. A transport copter will be arriving at your residence shortly to bring you to the institute. Please let us know if you are capable of providing your own transportation. Dress warmly and pack lightly. Good luck.
-Master Pahada
Hi everyone! As promised, here's my Superpower RP. Schools always seem to work well as RP settings, so I couldn't resist. Um... I think the wall of text speaks for itself, so I'll just move on to the charrie sheet:
Name
Age (High school-aged, so 14-18)
Gender
Appearance
Personality
Home Country (It can be anywhere in the word, but I do request they are able to speak English for obvious reasons)
Superpower
Other (non-super) Talents
Weapon of Choice
Background Info
Password
And now, some ground rules:
1. Maximum of 2 characters per person, but no limit to how many people can join. This is technically a school RP after all, so the more the merrier!
2. Concerning the superpowers, please try to be creative. Standard powers like flight, strength, etc. are acceptable, but I don't want everyone to have a generic ability.
3. You knew this was coming, but OP charries are a no-no. There can certainly be some students more skilled than others, but their powers should all be relatively equal at base level.
4. Shipping is absolutely allowed, as long as the other person is okay with it.
5. We're all gonna be in the same class, but at some point charries may be split into smaller teams of 2-3. So if you want to be in a team with someone feel free to ask them.
6. Last but not least: Feel free to add anything you see fit to add to the setting! That includes coming up with background characters, teachers, minor villains, etc. Don't leave everything to me!
Well, that about covers everything. This is kinda info-dense, as my RPs tend to be, so feel free to ask me any questions. I'll post my character(s) (haven't decided whether I'm making 1 or 2 yet) shortly after this goes up. I hope everyone has fun!
Sorry guys, I’m gonna have to drop out. It looks like there are going to be some things in this RP that go against my personal values and beliefs, and I’m just really not comfortable staying in an RP with those certain things in it. I won’t elaborate because I don’t want to pick an argument with anyone, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m dropping out. I’m disappointed because I was really excited about this and the idea was really cool, but I just can’t participate with a clear conscience.
Hey, Rogue, have you figured out what your charrie's personality is? I think it'd be a good thing for the rest of us to know before we start. Thanks!
This RP seems awesome! Like others have said, I'm going to have to see what my workload is like when I start school on Tuesday before joining for sure. Just in case, is there space for another charrie?
Name: Tova Gold
Age: 14, almost 15
Gender: Female
Appearance: Chin-length, curly dark brown hair streaked with red. She has pale skin and hazel eyes. She's about 5'4" and maybe 110 pounds, but she she likes to wear black leather platform boots that make her seem taller. Tova's fashion sense is punk-y, and she almost always wears black or red and her signature chunky headphones.
Personality: She's extroverted and friendly in a rough, honest way, though can be known to hold grudges for a long time. She is not easily offended, and she can have trouble sympathizing with others.
Home Country: New Zealand
Superpower: She can create mirages and glamours. These illusions are not tangible, and they dissipate over a period of time (the length of which depends on how much energy she put into it).
Other (non-super) Talents: Singing, painting, table tennis
Weapon of Choice: Tough, fingerless black gloves (these allow her powers to flow freely) with metal spikes on the knuckles, along with a knife stashed in each boot.
Background Info: Tova grew up in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. Her father was a rabbi, but Tova never conformed to the high behavioral expectations of a clergyman’s daughter. When she discovered, a year ago, that her knack for painting went beyond the canvas, she played a series of practical jokes that landed her in deep trouble with her parents. She was sent to Candrama with the knowledge that her community lost some respect for her father on account of her actions. She's ready to redeem herself.
While she might be a difficult girlfriend, Tova is willing to be shipped with all genders.
Name: Maxwell Lee
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Appearance: Relatively shorter and more muscular than average. Usually tanned with long, black unruly hair, sometimes tied into a bun. Has a soft roundish face, with a blinding smile and smooth brown eyes, like a dazzling baby kangaroo.
Personality: While Max seems conent with his small career as a chef, you'll find that he's much more ambitious than you think. Some might get a first impression that Max is stupid, but he prides himself on helping as many people as he can.
Home Country: Sydney, Australia mate!
Superpower: Though human on the outside, Max's legs have held the supercharged power of a kangaroo since birth. This includes jumping, kicking, whatever grills your shrimp!
Other Talents: Believe it or not, Max is quite adept as a chef, further explained in his backstory.
Weapon of Choice: Max finds that any kind of staff that helps to prop himself up gives him maximum kicking power, as well as a good way to keep enemies at a distance.
Background Info: You might mistake Max for a chill, Australian steak chef. And you'd be right. Max's mother was a hotel manager, and his father a sous chef. Once together, they fell in love and created the most prominent steakhouse in Sydney, The Angry Joey! Of course, Max grew up learning everything his father had to know, as well as learning how to properly use his power. After 17 years, he's pretty adept at both. While sad to see him go, both the Lee parents are eager to see Max succeed.
@Leeli, Cassandra and Rogue
I completely understand, don't sweat it.
@Pete
wow thanks for showing up at the last moment (jk)
@Shy Peacock, Fidelity, and Gracia
If I'm not mistaken, you guys reserved and didn't post or drop out yet, so just a heads up we'll probably be starting without you although you can still jump in at any time
One last thing- a quick tweak to Wei's personality. He is still quiet, but in more of a stoic way than a shy way. He is disciplined and very serious about following the rules set in place by his superiors. Usually he only speaks up to call someone out on breaking one. Although he still secretly longs for a normal life, he is a 'fake it til you make it' kind of guy.
Is everyone ready to start? I'm ready either on the 1st (technically today because I'm up way too late) or the 2nd
However, when she is focused, she has been known to bring up/summon crystals up to 6 feet tall.
Other (non-super) Talents: She is good at gardening, and art (more of the crafts vareity)
Weapon of Choice: A crystal spear
Background Info: Ayelet has never had many frriends in school, she's always kind of been the odd one out, because she was the only one of her age with powers in her small town. However, ever since she was little, her moms have been telling her all of the great things people with powers could do, showing her videos, etc. She had always kind of known that she would go to Candrama, but now that the time has come, she's a little scared she won't measure up, after all, she's never done anything great like in the videos her moms are always showing her. However, she's exited to meet more people like her and maybe even make some friends.
Maxwell Lee
Horatio Levitt
Korrynn Maye
Ayelet Simon
Daniel (does he have a last name Darkking? I put him last cause that's what made sense alphabetically)
And without further ado, let's start this thing!
Horatio~
The pilot's staticky voice buzzes in my ear like an electronic insect, awakening me from my boredom-induced slumber.
"We'll be landing soon, you'll be needing this."
A bundle of fabric flies back from the cockpit, falling into my lap. I pick it up, examining it between my thumbs and index fingers. It's an insulated jacket, navy-blue and bearing the silver crescent moon of Candrama. Aesthetically pleasing, but not really my style.
The pilot seems to pick up on this. He thinks I haven't noticed, but he's been silently judging my choice of attire since I stepped onto this chopper. "It might be summer now but you can't spend all year in a tank top where we're going, Horatio."
"Wanna bet?"
"No."
"Alright man, whatever." I tie the jacket around my waist and lean forward out of my chair, stretching my arms and torso. "Anything else you got up there for me? Maybe like an energy bar?"
"As a matter of fact, yes. No, it's not- it's not food." the pilot corrects himself in exasperation after catching my eyes quite literally light up in the rearview mirror. "It's the class list." His co-pilot passes a laminated piece of paper back to me.
"Each graduating class is divided into several homeroom classes with about fifteen students in each. They're going to expect you to know which one you're in right off the bat, so I advise you to look that over if you don't want to look more clueless than a newborn yak."
"Ooh, strict."
"Yes. The top super school in the world, strict. Imagine that." I don't even have to look to know that he rolled his eyes.
I unfold the paper into a multi-faceted pamphlet that features an uncomfortable amount of text on it. Alright, first years. Class Crimson, Class Leopard, ah, there I am, in Class Everest. I skim the names of my classmates, half-heartedly seeing if I recognize any. Besides a few familiar surnames, no one.
"I hope you're done reading, because we're here."
I toss the pamphlet aside. "Jeez, man, when you said 'soon', you really meant 'soon', didn't yo..."
My voice trails off, overshadowed by the sudden view from the cabin. For most of the flight we'd been over the boring, blue Pacific, but now a landscape of rolling green hills stretches on outside the window, loomed over by massive snowy peaks in the background.
The moment we touch down, I rip off my headset, and quickly grab my guitar from the backseat, slinging it over my shoulder. I seize the remainder of my luggage, a modest, worn-out suitcase, and lunge out of the cabin, not stopping to say goodbye to the pilot.
We've arrived on a very large stone landing pad, sharing the space with a few other helicopters that are also letting off students and their luggage. The air is cool here, certainly cooler than back in California, but nothing too frigid yet. For now, my jacket remains around my waist.
I set down my suitcase for a minute to survey the area. Of course I've seen pictures of this place, but it's one of those things that you just have to see in person to get the full experience. Two paths lead away from the landing pad in opposite directions- one to a small village further down in the valley, and the other up to the school itself.
My eyes follow the incline of the slope until they finally meet with what I came here for. There it is- Candrama Institute. A huge complex of many-layered circular pagodas, each earth-brown with dark blue roof tiles, the largest one rising into the clouds like a tower. The path to the school is lined with stone lanterns and colorful pennants fluttering in the breeze, and students are making their way up the hill towards the school's courtyard, where I can make out a crowd gathering.
I pick up my suitcase, fasten my guitar strap, and take my first step towards a totally radiant future.
Millie~
The noise of the helicopter is loud, making communication almost impossible without use of headsets.
We’re sharing the chopper with two other people: a girl with curly brown hair who seems nice enough and a broody, dark haired boy. Rainey had tried to say hello to both of them when we boarded the chopper, but she had only gotten a response from the girl.
I stare out of the window at the ocean below us. Unlike Rainey, I’m not afraid of heights, so I feel no anxiety staring at the dark blue expanse between gaps in the clouds.
The pilot’s voice crackles over the intercom.
“We’ll be landing in about forty minutes,” she says as I watch the sea give way to a green expanse of wilderness.
After staring at landscape for a while, I turn to Rainey. She’s on her phone, probably trying to forget about how high up we are. Leaning over, I ignore the death glare she shoots me and look at what she’s looking at.
The screen is filled with images of Candrama. The photos are breathtaking, and I feel excitement well up inside of me at the thought of us going there. It was what I had wanted for a long time, and I was so happy that Rainey had finally agreed to go.
I tear my eyes away from the pictures and lean back in my seat. I close my eyes and start dreaming about what lies ahead.
Rainey~
The copper touches down smoothly on the stone landing pad. My leg is jogging up and down with excitement, more about getting out of this wretched helicopter than seeing the school.
The doors open and I bolt out of the chopper, not even waiting for Millie. The air is chilly, but my new Candrama jacket keeps me warm. I see several people with their jackets on as well, but there are a few without them, including a boy wearing only a tank top and shorts.
I take a deep breath, inhaling the fresh mountain air. It feels good to be out in the open after being stuck in an enclosed space for over fifteen hours.
Millie gets out of the helicopter and comes to stand next to me. She’s carrying the informational pamphlet that was given to us before we landed. It has our class information on it and more background on the school and how it works. We were both in a section called Everest, a fitting name I thought.
After grabbing our luggage, we start to move towards the school. It is even more amazing than in the pictures, and I spend a whole minute just staring at the building. The blue tiles and tiered levels give the impression that it is some sort of sky palace wrapped in whisps of cloud.
“Stop gawking. Do you want to look like a human fly trap?” Millie says, her voice a perfect imitation of one of the strictest teachers from our old prep school.
I give her a fake scowl.
“I was simply admiring the absolutely divine architecture,” I say in the same voice.
We both laugh and continue to walk up the path towards a large courtyard. With each step I become more excited for the future.
