Name: Elijah (Eli for short)

Age: 14

Gender: Male

Appearance: An average-height black kid with curly dark brown hair that’s supposed to be short but needs a cut. Very dark skin, and pretty grey eyes. Usually wears a t-shirt, jeans, and a baseball cap.

House street: n/a (homeless) Can I do a bit of what I imagine of the streets though? I think they’re more like neighborhoods, because be a really small city. Kanka District: Pretty normal. There’s a row of apartments and some duplexes. College students tend to rent houses here. An overly cemented playground, Tulip High School, and Kaminty College are its main features. Arous District: A busy street with shops, restaurants, and other things of that ilk. Not many people live there, unless they live above a shop or something. Main features are Cali Elementary School and Lily Blossom Middle School, the mall and a large bookstore. Malloui Neighborhood: Pretty normal as well. Mostly houses with large yards, a bit richer than the others but not by much. Main features are lots of nice parks, Cora Middle School, and Kaminty Elementary School. Suburban vibes. Jankio: On the bad side of town. Lots of boarded up shops and homes in disrepair. Not many parks or anything. Camio Neighborhood: Ultrafancy, lots of mansions, penthouse condos, etc. Not actually the nicest place to grow up in though. Main features are the clinic and the Japanese Gardens.

(Zora, if you object to these, just say. Everyone, if you want to change your street based on this, feel free.

House appearance:  n/a

Personality: Seems intense at some times. Well, most times. He gets angry easily. Once you have his loyalty, you don’t have it forever, but while it lasts he will kill anyone for you.

Job or School: Cora Middle School

Wealth: Very low.

Favorite activities: Playing Fortnite when he’s able to, reading, foursquare and other games of that type.

Other: He lives with his college-aged sister Norah in a car usually parked in Kanka District. I’ll do her sheet tomorrow.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kalvins eyes fluttered open, and he heard his father loud voice shreiking in his ear. "Huh?" He said. He was sitting in a chair, a plate full of eggs and a peice of toast infront of him. oh, no. I must have fallen asleep! He thought. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" yelled his father. "YOU NEED TO GET TO CLASS IN TEN MINUTES!' He shreiked. gah! Kalvin thought. he rushed to eat his breakfast, then bounced out of the house with one shoe barely on his foot, and hopped on the bus to kaminty college. He stumbled out of the bus when he reached the huge school, and ran through the people untill he reached his classroom, which was full of students and a distrupted, angry teacher. "Kalvin, your late." She said. "I- um, Im sorry, I, um, fell asleep. While I was eating breakfast." The whole class irrupted in shreiks of laughter. Kalvin blushed and shuffled to a empty seat with his name on it, right next to his two friends Pete and Micheal, who both elbowed him as they laughed along with everyone else, their shrieks by far the loudest. the day was rough, and he was so releived when he finnally reached the cafeteria for lunch. He sat at a table, while crowds of boys sat down next to him. (Did i mention he is very popular?) "Ugh..." He groaned. "Im so tired from all that work..." He picked up and apple and bit into it. Pete started laughing. "Dude, it was so funny earier!" He told the group. "Yeah, his excuse was that he fell ASLEEP! While he was eating BREAKFAST!" He explained loudly. Everyone exploded into laughter. The rest of the day wasnt easy either, especaily in math. The teacher was mean, none of his friends were in it, and everyone else was mean. The only decent person in the class was a girl named Kath, who seemed ok. He got home, had his usual fight with his dad, and then, of course, he fell asleep, in the middle of eating dinner.
Wow that took a long time.
Just so you know, I will adlib side characters without sheets. Elijah’s main friends, AJ and Sara, don’t have sheets, but I might occasionally write from their perspective. I’m also basing Cora Middle School off of my school, and I might make a couple background characters from my classmates/self inserts/OCs. Also, artisticbirdie, Elijah’s views are not my views. I just want drama.
***
There were two groups of kids at Cora Middle School, Eli thought. The super-rich and the super-poor.
Wait, no, that wasn’t right. Sure, those were basically the two wealth levels, but he guessed the school didn’t really split up along those lines. Kelis-of the Gucci flipflops and gold fancy hair extenders- hung out with the poor kids, Nicole-who he knew he’d seen at a shelter- hung out with the rich ones, and Kensie didn’t really hang out with anyone. But his first sentence did have more panch.
Kensie was a mystery, and not only because Eli couldn’t fathom having so much wealth. People were practically lining up to be her friends, and she didn’t have any. Well, not practically. He had seen a line for her autograph. Posh jerk.  She was white, rich, straight and cis (as far as Eli knew. She might be a lesbian, he supposed, but how likely was that, really?). She wasn’t prejudiced against for anything other than being female, and Kaminty was pretty safe for those kinds of things.
The bell rang, and AJ appeared, running to get in as the doors unlocked and swung open. On his way by he grabbed Elijah’s arm. “Come on, Eli, we’re going to be late.”
”You worry too much,” Eli said, laughing a little. “We’ve got ten minutes before classes.”
”And you know what I have to do in those ten minutes? Wait in line for breakfast, get breakfast, eat breakfast, change for PE, and run down the hall to the gym. I think it should be against the law to make someone eat breakfast in ten minutes.”
AJ was a tall black kid with hair in short dreadlocks, brown eyes, and an overexuberant personality. He was also one of Eli’s best friends. As for the other-
“Where’s Sara?” Eli asked.
AJ shrugged. “I don’t know, man. Probably late, or already at her elective. I could text her if you want. Or you could.”
”I don’t actually have her number,” Eli said. “But it doesn’t matter, anyway. Just wondering.”
“You don’t have her number? Did you ask her? Ooo, did you get absolutely rejected?”
”Shut up,” Eli said, shoving him. “Just because she’s a girl that I happen to be friends with doesn’t mean you have to see romance at every turn-“
”Yes, it does,” AJ asserted, and Eli groaned.
”Anyway, I haven’t asked her. I mostly talk to her on Fortnite anyway.” Eli played Fortnite on his phone, which was horribly awkward with the tiny screen, but he supposed he was glad Norah thought it was important to get him a phone.
The two boys shuffled forward in the line for the school mandated breakfast, which was well known for being even worse than the hot lunch. But Elijah wasn’t about to ask Norah to spend her money (slowly leaking due to student loans) on getting him breakfast when he could have breakfast- and lunch- for free at school. And AJ tended to sleep in, so it was good to have the breakfast during schooltime.
Still. Elijah was so, so tired of school food.
Today was apparently maple bars. Now, everyone in Cora Middle School was certain there was no maple in there, or grains, or anything that would normally be in a maple bar. Sara had once quipped ‘Get your Cora Middle maple bars today! Gluten-free, dairy-free, and maple bar-free. With new real artificial flavors!”
Age: 59
Gender: Male
Appearance: Grizzled salt-and-pepper hair covered with a black beanie, a small beard, and tan, rough skin covered in nicks and scars. Dark brown eyes ringed with gold, and he's usually wearing a sad smile. His posture isn't very good, as he has a limp in his left leg. Usually wearing a dark green puffy jacket.
House Street: By Blue Moon's post, I'm gonna say that Jaques mainly lives around Jankio street.
House Appearance: It's not technically a house, but he sleeps underneath a tarp held up by two milk crates.
Personality: Probs the dude who'll just give you some really deep life advice and then just disappear for the rest of your life. He's actually very nice if you take the time to get to know him, but a lot of people stay away from him cause he's a homeless guy. He's a p chill dude. Jaques gets nervous around noises like loud crashes and/or bangs (as a result from events during his childhood/teenage years).
Wealth: Currently struggling financially.
Favorite Activities: He enjoys getting tea at Artichoke and Basil, but rarely has time to do so now.
@Blue Moon- I actually LOVE the drama! To anyone else, Kensie’s views are not my views either. She’s just a sassy pop star. What do you expect? :)
Kensie-
I groan as I get up and realize that being in this town isn’t just the worst nightmare ever. Nobody is lined up waiting to do my makeup, which I don’t need anyways, and no one is telling me that I slept on my hair the wrong way. I make my way over to my walk-in closet to pick out an outfit, not that anyone decent will even see me. Half of the kids in this run-down town seem to be homeless anyways. Still, I apply some lip gloss and mascara and change out of my too-short pajama shorts and pink crop-top pajama tank into too-short cutoff denim shorts and a light blue long-sleeve crop-top with a white star on the bottom corner. I slip my feet into gold wedges and dazzle my wrists with some gold jewelry. I straighten and blow dry my hair before pulling it up into a blond high ponytail. Gold hoop earrings and I’m good to go. I sling my backpack over my shoulder and take the bus-Ugh, the bus- to school. I still can’t believe that I’m being forced to live here and go to school. School isn’t any easier here than it was when I was homeschooled on the set, and I’m failing all my classes. Not that that even matters though. I mean, kids are literally lining up between classes for my autograph. Except for the poor kids, at least most of them. I guess they think that they aren’t worthy of my autograph, and that fact pretty much deserves a hair flip. Seriously though? It’s not like I can even make friends here. They’re all either too busy fawning over my designer clothes (Get over it already!), or they’re too shy to talk to me, which like, shows how famous I am. In chorus, the teacher won’t let me do a solo of ANY of my songs, which seems almost as lame as the fact that instead of the gourmet food I get when I’m on tour, the school lunch consists of whole grain chicken nuggets and a “whole grain” applesauce. Like, c’mon! This one kid is gawking at me, so I decide to sit at that table today even though I supposedly got a lunch detention for texting during class. No one gives the Kensie Romano lunch detentions.
“Hey, girl!” I sound as peppy as I can because you should always act happy around fans. I bite into some gourmet rice that came from someone or other who’s famous. Not that I care about which chef is the most famous now. I’m excited for tonight, though, because the Central Teen Acting Awards are at like, seven, tonight, and I got selected as Teen’s Fave. So, like, squee! I look up at the girls sitting around me, ecstatic joy and extreme surprise on their faces. “Like, so, I’m Kensie, like, duh.” I introduce myself, waiting for one of them to respond.
————
Anyone wanna be any of the girls Kensie sits with? Awesomesauce!
Sara, one of Elijah’s best friends, was a petite Hispanic girl with sparkling eyes and hair cut short. Her goal in life used to make the best vine possible, and she had a little brother named Lucca who was usually roped into her schemes. Now Vine was dead, she spent most of her time watching them. She always had something weird or funny to say.
And she hadn’t shown up for first period Drama, which Eli had with her, or second period science with AJ. (Eli was in English when she was in science.) Or third period social studies, which all of them took. By fourth period (math), right before lunch, Elijah was hungry and worried.
“Alright,” AJ said, “I’m calling her.” He took his phone out and started to fiddle with it.
“Um, AJ?” Elijah said.
”What?”
Ms. Bee tapped him on the shoulder. “Did I say you could have your phone out, Amiri?”
AJ- Amiri Joseph- took a step back. “Um, no? And call me AJ.”
”Right,” Ms. Bee said,  “I keep forgetting. Anyway, don’t you have something you need to put in your locker?”
“Sorry!” AJ ran out, and Eli could hear the clicking of a lock, then banging on a locker in frustration, then the clicking of a lock again, and then the sound of a locker opening. AJ and Elijah were locker partners, and Elijah knew from experience how hard it was to open their locker.
Math slogged on, for Elijah at least. He was usually fairly good at math, but presented with geometry his ruler slipped, his pencils broke, and his centers of rotation never wanted to be in the right places. It didn’t help that he was almost never able to turn homework in, which for one canceled out the small possibility of him earning algebra extra credit points to make up for the geometry.
“I want to play Prodigy,” AJ complained.
“Me too,” Eli said, “me too.”
”Will you shut up?” Isaac said.
”You shut up,” Eli retorted.
”You talked first,” Isaac said, “I was only shushing you.”
There was a bit of a shush war, before both went back to their (horrible) worksheets. In a few minutes, the bell rang for lunch. I hope Sara will be at lunch, at least.
She wasn’t.
Whew! OK, here is Anastatia! Anastatia will now live in one of the few houses on Jankio St.
Anastatia~~~
I woke to Lily, my sister, shaking my shoulders. "Come on Ani! You have 20 minutes until the bell!" Shoot. How am I supposed to eat in twenty minutes? I throw on my ombre dress, staighten my glasses, and fly out the door, a bit of buttered bread in my hand. I slide into first period English just before the bell. Mrs. Jenkins rants on and on about how we're supposed to be reading A Wrinkle in Time, but I only half listen, fidgiting with my dress hem. I mill about to math, science, and finally, finally lunch. Shoot, I forgot my lunch bag. Guess I'll buy a lunch at the Burger Bar then head to the library. I could only afford half-days, and always left at lunch. Today was also a Tuesday, the only day I didn't student teach. 3 hours of free time on my hands. I silently leave the school, heading toward the Burger Bar to get lunch.
An hour later, I'm sitting at the library, reading my favorite book, Because of Winn-Dixie. I sigh, reading about Opal, The Preacher, and Amanda. The only other person in the library is a lanky boy, maybe eighteen. He approaches me, saying, "Is that Because of Winn-Dixie? I love that book!". I smile, then say, "It's my favorite book in the world. I wish Kate DiCamillio could visit Kaminty."      "I know, right? I'm Kalvin, by the way." "Anastatia.", I say, proudly. Kalvin smiles, then says, "Wait a second. I feel like I know you from somewhere. I remember seeing someone who looks exactly like you at my mansion, a long time ago." I blush, trying to remember. "I'm sorry, you must be mistaken. I've never seen you, except at school." I check my watch. 3:20?! Already? "I have to go. See you around!"
Secret, it might actually be more realistic to have Anistasia live on Kanka or something? In the college dorms is cheaper, and your character doesn't seem super duper poor either.
I don't know, this is really just a top.
I targeted Anastatia to be not exactly poor, but close to that. Anastatia is also a high school senior, not a college student. I see your point though. I'll change it to Kanka.
Cora Middle School is basically Faubion by now lol
@Secret sorry, you had said something about only being able to afford half days and seeing Kalvin at school, so I thought Anistasia was in college.
@artisticbirdie do you want to figure out some talking with Kensie and Elijah, since DRAMA and they go to the same school?
***
Lunch was good, despite Sara's absence. Eli took his tray outside to sit with AJ and a couple other not-quite-friends. Pals? Well, anyway, it was Isaac, DeShawn, and Sophie who were sitting with them today, and Eli was on friendly terms with all of them. He mostly spent lunch talking to AJ about Fortnite strats, though. As soon as the lunch.. person? Monitor? announced that if they wanted, they could put away their trays and go outside, Eli raced to toss his in the bin and get in the top square.
Now, something you need to know about Cora Middle School is that almost nothing was viewed as "girly". Sure, there were some sexist kids, but Eli could play anything he wanted without getting called out. DeShawn, a giant, buff, black guy spent most of his recesses playing foursquare as well. And tag? Tag was a really huge thing. If you played tag, you were automatically viewed as one of the fastest kids in school. Eli used to play, before he got outmatched.
Hit it! No, not there, it hasn't touched my square yet. Coming my way- get it! Hit it hard at Layla to get her out of first square. Ugh, she got it. Down low- too low- can't hit it-
"Out," Layla smirked, and Eli moved reluctantly out of second square. The line was short, though, and it was only a matter of time before Donovan got out, and Elijah bounded into fourth square. And then the bell for the end of lunch rang, and Eli groaned.
"See ya," Layla said to him. She was in seventh grade, a grade lower than him, and so they didn't have any classes together. Electives were mixed grade, but Elijah and Layla weren't really into the same things, or good enough friends to coordinate. (AJ and Elijah had tried, but AJ had been attacked by the two school-required electives, Health and PE. Next term.) Not that he didn't like Layla. She was cool.
Elijah wandered through science, which was okay, and woodworking, which he liked. That made sense, as it was his elective. He sort of wished he'd picked something with more moving around for the end of the day, though, when he was usually exhausted or bubbling with way too much energy.
Finally. the bell rang, and Elijah raced out, only to find Ms. Evelyn blocking the way. "Did I say you were dismissed yet?"
Elijah, along with all the other kids, heaved a sigh and went back. Ms. Evelyn waited a few seconds before saying, "Okay, you can go now." An avalanche of students poured out of her classroom, as everyone ran down the halls yelling to each other or at each other or at their lockers. Elijah pulled his backpack out of his locker and swung it over his shoulders.
"Wait, wait," AJ said, grabbing the locker just as Eli was about to close it. "Let me get my stuff out."
Eli nodded and ran down the halls. He was in a hurry to start going to their car, he guessed, but he had no desire to actually get in. He figured he'd stretch out his time as long as he could, just like all the other nights.
Norah was fine, and actually a pretty good sister most of the time. She would do stuff with him and play games and get him iPhone 6s.
That was most of the time. Occasionally, she'd go into her protective mode, with was better in some ways, since Elijah didn't have to do so much himself, but she got tense and wary and counted every cent of their money and it was not worth it, even if it meant they got dinner every night of the week and Norah got a little closer to doing more college and getting a real job.
For a living, Norah did commissions on the Internet. His sister had mad art skills, and when she wasn't in protective mode she drew comics for Eli, about whatever he wanted.
It was much better than four years ago, when they were still living with their parents, and Norah took every excuse not to be home, ever, and Elijah had the brunt of the attacks, until Norah accidentally let the word 'girlfriend' slip, and then she showed up in Eli's room white-faced and without explaining told him to pack, then carried him and the bags out to the car.
It hadn't been that long ago. Eli had been ten. He remembered it- the adrenaline coursing through him, the sense of panic pervading, the way Norah's foot pushed heavy on the gas pedal and it didn't look like she'd ever let up. The empty highway, the sigh of relief Norah let out as they passed the sign: San Fransico, 100 miles. They were 100 miles away from home, 100 miles to safety.
Norah had wanted to go to New York, or Las Vegas, or Toronto. Elijah had pointed out that all those places would take a lot of driving. Norah pointed out that that was the point. Eventually, they'd driven for 2 days, crossing almost the entire country, to land in the tiny city/town of Kaminty because the college Norah couldn't afford was cheaper than usual and there were a lot of job opportunities.
Norah didn't have a job and didn't go to college, but they were still 1000 miles away, safe.
Sure, I’ll have them talk. This is actually working out pretty perfectly! Here goes!
Kensie-
School isn’t really anything but something that I’m being forced to do by the law. It’s not something I like, and it’s not like I have any friends. But fans are close enough, and I’d rather be myself than just a nerdy person with friends. Fame is everything.
“Excuse me?” A girl asks quietly, and I sign the paper she hands to me with my autograph, smiling from my seat in this weird uncomfortable school chair. A boy sits down next to me, and I turn toward him as the girl walks away squealing. I catch his eye for a minute, but he turns away, rolling his eyes. I look at him with my eyebrows raised. What’s his problem?
“Hey.” I tilt my head at him. “I’m Kensie.”
His reply is cold and it seems like he’s kind of annoyed by me. Maybe not everyone likes me, after all. “Elijah.” I decide to ignore him. Haters just hate, y’all.
Eighth-grade science is a whole lot harder than you would have expected. That could just be because I supposedly have a whole bunch of learning disabilities, but I'd rather not talk about it and just get my fans to help me. Not that this kid Elijah is a fan anyways, but he seems smart. And apparently we have study hall together, and since our last names are near each other, we end up sitting together in that, too.
“Hey, do you know the answer to question number three?” He narrows his eyes at me and starts murmuring something in a low voice, so quiet I have to lean closer to write it down. He’s halfway through the explanation with me hastily scribbling down misspelled words when my phone rings. I glance at him, waiting patiently and looking incredibly annoyed.
I glance down at my cell, which had buzzed due to a text from Riley. I look back up at the boy, who is staring at me.  I pull my phone into my lap and type as fast as I can.
”Sorry,” I mutter to the boy. “It’s my girlfriend.” His eyes go wide, as if he’s surprised. His eyebrows raise, confused. And then, and it’s so slight that I can barely catch it, he smiles. This Elijah kid actually smiles! At me! And although thousands of people smile at me every day, this one’s different. I smile back, sending Riley a few heart emojis and telling her I’m still in school. Then I turn back to my homework and actually have a talk with Elijah.
(November 4, 2018 - 6:29 pm)
Eli didn’t really need to do study hall. It was just an excuse to stay out of the freezing cold streets and freezing cold car (protective mode Norah: gas costs too much! We must save our money! Saaaaave). And of course, an excuse to goof off.
The small room had desks in rows, with chairs every-which-way and mismatched. Five chairs were huddling around one table like some sort of cult, Sureika was trying to stack as many as possible to make herself a throne, and most kids were lounged on the floor anyways, talking about stupid stuff. Tennis balls, paper airplanes, and erasers flew through the air, and Eli could hear more than one phone blasting booms, pickaxe sounds, and the ratata of virtual gunfire. It was an afterschool program in a limited selection of afterschool programs, after all. Kids were very very done with school by now, and they had decided to make that known.
Sureika had finished with her chair-stacking. “Topple the queen!” someone said, rocking the chairs back and forth, and Sureika laughed.
More people joined. “Wait no, stoooop-“ Sureika fell with a thud onto the ground. She was still laughing, so it was fine, but the sub looked over, panicked.
”That’s ENOUGH!” he bellowed, breaking two important guidelines: 1. Subs were supposed to be pushovers and 2. The study hall teacher was supposed to be super bored and not give a frick what the students were doing. Elijah felt personally wronged.
“I’m sorry, but this is too much,” the sub continued. “We’re going to have to move to assigned seating.”
A chorus of groans rose up, and talking erupted, mostly about what business the sub had with doing that, Ms. Calmos never had assigned seating, wondering if all the chairs would have to be moved, grim resolution not to do a single thing the sub said...
”Julian Aboyi, sit here,” the sub said, reading off of a list, and Jules, the one who had promised to start a rebellion and sit wherever he wanted, got up and moved with a sigh to the seat.
“Maliyah Baker, here... Taviner Brewett, here(“Just Tavy, please”)... Amiri Davis, here (“AJ!”)...”
The sub moves down the list, and Elijah tensed, though there was no reason to, as the sub got closer to his name. “Cole McDouglas, Avery McNab, Sophie Parnell-Wilson... Elijah Ramsey, Kensie Romano...”
Elijah got up and moved to his spot. Guess I’m sitting with the snobby privileged pop star, he thought. A couple girls were staring at him in envy.
They worked in silence for a while, before Kensie leaned over and asked him the answer to question three. Her paper was a mess, and none, well basically none, of the words were spelled correctly. Probably has lackeys and maidservants to do her work for her.
Luckily, they were on the same science worksheet, and Elijah leaned over and quietly explained. “So, the first bit is basically the same thing you learned in kindergarten, right? Sunshine, air, water. Water comes from the dirt, so you don’t need to write soil.” Kensie nodded, furiously jotting it down. “The water comes in through the xylem...” Sara had described it as ‘the plant gets a sunburn and drunk off of water from a straw, then shoves it together with the power of the color green and gets on a sugar high’.
Elijah glanced down at Kensie’s paper. “Hey, do you have dyslexia? I know a kid who’s got it just for spelling.” It was partly an insult and partly an honest question.
“Maybe? Think so,” Kensie answered, as her phone started ringing and she looked down, which was just what Elijah had expected. Going along on Instagram reblogging things with pointless heart tags and texting friends 24/7. He looked over, curious.
Kensie was tapping furiously, blushing. “Sorry,” she muttered, “it’s my girlfriend,”.
Eli startled. Kensie was like Norah? Wait, this was all so ironic. Elijah could remember his exact words. ‘Posh jerk.  She was white and rich.  Now, Kensie was still white and rich,  but she... Norah and Elijah’s life had changed in a day, for a reason that could just as easily change Kensie’s.
Elijah smiled at her.
