Dear Cber,

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Dear Cber,

Dear Cber,

You are one of the selected few formally invited to the Somnum Exterreri Academy, otherwise known as S.E.A. Our Academy is the first of its kind, a school that specializes in the catching, research, and training of nightmares. You may not know this now, but your nightmares are caused by creatures called Night Terrors (NTs). They have the appearance of a monster but don't be intimidated by their looks. These creatures can be tamed with proper training.

Here at S.E.A., we defend the world from Daydreams/Daylings. You may think daydream creatures are good, but they are anything but. They lure their victims in and attack once their victims are completely absorbed in fantasy. The spike of recent disappearances of children is something we need to stop.

So sign up today to join S.E.A., to keep the world from drowning in dreams.

Signed the Headmaster,

Luna Lillith

Here is your sign up form! Hope to see you at S.E.A. (Only one sign up per Cber please!)

What would you like to name your NT once you meet them:

Name: Azlyn (Lyn) Estee

Age (12-18): 15

Appearance: Kind of short, bright red hair that's been braided behind her back, slim, fair skin covered in freckles, bright emerald eyes, likes wearing green hoodies and purple shorts, only wears sneakers, wearing a small gold necklace with an eye carved in the pendant.

Personality: Lyn is pretty friendly, but only after you've known her for a bit. She prefers to observe to gain knowledge than to actually do anything. She's sort of quiet but when she gets angry she turns into a whole new person. She's a lover of books and loves learning knowledge for the sake of knowledge.

Backstory (Keep this short if you can!): Her little brother Farall went missing when she was nine. When she asked her parents what happened to him they only said: "He just liked the world in his mind better than the real one." As soon as she figured out what a Dayling was, she knew exactly what happened to her brother, and wanted to find a way to get him back.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Her strength is her ability to deduce, sort of like Sherlock does in the BBC version. From her years of observing, she has a pretty good understanding of how the world works. Her weakness, along with her lack of physical strength, is her lack of patience and trust. When someone is taking to long to understand something she is explaining, she can get very annoyed and a little aggressive. Her parents constantly lying and keeping secrets from her keeps her from trusting people until they prove they are genuine.

Worst Fear (This will play into how your NT looks later in the story): The Fog/not being able to see

What would you like to name your NT once you meet them: Fernando

I only have one thing to say to you before you go. Just remember: Not everything is as it seems. Keep your eyes open, for if you close them it might cost your life.

Whatever you do...

Don't fall asleep.

Sorry, I'm like not awake rn but I thought I should probably write something. Is it okay if their roommates? I just assumed I guess. Also it might be really blotchy and not make much sense. Again I'm like not really awake. lol sorry.

I took a deep, shaky breath. I clenched my letter in my hand as I started down the stairs. This was it, I just had to make it out without being seen, and I was home free. No more worrying about Daylings, no more worrying about- "Valintine Kat!" I cursed silently under my breath. "Where is you-*hic*- heading off to so early?"

"What are you doing up so early?" I snapped back. Then winced.

"Don't you dare talk back to your father." I heard the couch creak as the old man fumbled to get up.

I dashed down the rest of the stairs and ran into the door. I pushed it open as fast as I could. Without really looking I knew my mom was passed out on the couch. "Where are you going?" He was dangerously close.

The door pushed open. A hand slapped down on the wall close to my face, but I was already out the door. "I'm getting rid of both of our problems!" I yelled at him. "You won't have to see me again, ever maybe!"
"The daylings finally came for her...we warned that kid..." my dad whispered to himself before slamming the door closed, no second thoughts.

I stared blankly at my old house for a few moments before blinking, regaining my posture, putting a smile on my face, and walking to the bus.

~

To be honest, I don't really remember the entire ride over. I was lost in my thoughts. I know, bad, but that's the reason I'm coming to this...place...in the first place.

When we first saw it though, I can't say I didn't get a bad vibe of the place. And the old lady in her wheel-chair. She did some great accomplishment I'm sure, from the awful scars on her legs. I wonder if that would happen to me. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised. Whatever my N. T. is I'm sure it'll be a tough one. I have a lot of fears, to say the least.

Now we were finding our rooms. It was sorta difficult, trying to find my room while avoiding the contact of other students and thinking about whether or not my N. T. will talk. But I found it. At least.

I wonder if my roommate's going to be fun to be around. I hope she's not clingy. Or peppy. I might have to ask for a separate room just in case.

I should probably just try it out first.

Yes, yes, right. Try it out first. What's the worse that could happen?

I opened the door slowly, surveying my room before I actually took a step inside. The first thing I noticed was a plain white bed and a plain white girl with bright red hair braided behind her back. She turned to me and smiled. "Hi I'm Azlyn! But you can call me Lyn. You must be my roommate!"

I blinked, then smiled, turned around, and shut the door.

Age (12-18): 15, looks younger

Appearance: Heterochromatic eyes, left leaf green, right stormy blue, bags under his eyes indicating loss of sleep, black hair, short, often wears overly large sweaters, prefers long pants, wears black sneakers

Personality: He's a sweet boy with a troubled past, he dislikes meeting new people but if you become his friend he will be very loyal, courteous, curious, self-controlled except when he has panic attacks, then again no one can be calm when that happens, mostly honest but he lies a bit, observant, logical.

(Optional) Backstory (Keep this short if you do it!): Loki's his brother Drake was accepted into the academy, graduated very quickly, and left to hunt down daydreams. Drake later was driven crazy by his NT since he never learned how to properly control it. He tracked down and killed his family, almost killing Loki, but he never did. He instaid acted very kind towards the boy, when Loki didn't listen he grew angry, the police arrived before long, but not before Loki was severely injured.

Strengths/Weaknesses: He is very determined but he can be moody, he has a kind heart but he is scared of strangers, especially those who seem to be friendly.

Worst Fear (This will play into how your NT looks later in the story): Failure, he feels like he failed everyone so he attempts to do much more than he can handle

I breathe a sigh of relief when the crowd disperses to find their rooms. Looking for room 54. 54, 54, found it! I smile as I slide the key into the lock, then there was a loud crash just before the door swung open without the need to unlock it. I stood there, frozen in fear as memories clawed their way into my mind. A house burning, screaming, the crunch of bones breaking. I take a step back from the room, I breathe in, out, in, out. Then I go and put my bags on the bed closest to the door, and start to unpack. I grab my toiletries and walk to the bathroom, I stop when I reach the doorway, staring at the chaos that has become of the bathroom. Blood stained shards are what remains of the mirror on one side, whoever broke it sitting on the floor.

"Are you alright?" I ask in a quiet voice, not because he might be angry, but because I don't like to talk to strangers, even if they are my roommates.

He stands up and walks past me, back into the main room and slumps onto his bed. Leaving me to pick up the mess, I sight and crouch down to pick up the shards, putting them the trash can as I go. Then I sweep the floor of the glass shards, depositing them in the trash as well.

Eeh, I had no idea how to begin this and I think it really shows, I might redo this post but I'm too tired to do it today

OH SHOOT I DIDN'T KNOW THIS STARTED!

Sorry everybody!

Astelle-

I groggily wake up, listening to the birds chirping in my window and hearing Crystal snoring. Oh, no. What time is it! I gotta go to the school. I tenderly hug Crystal, who is just waking up. "Bye...Stell ", she said, using my old nickname. I grab my metalllic black trunk and my brown leather messenger bag and race out the door. Dad has the car ready, and whisks me to my new boarding school.

---

When we walk in, a woman is standing in the doorway to the dorms. "Hello, Astelle Rose. I hear you have already seen the school, so ther is no need for a tour. Your room number is 46, the hall is up here"., she says. She leads me up a staircase, and shows me to a hall decorated with beautiful gold chandeliers. I gasp in awe. "I see you like it.", the woman says. "I'm your headmistress, Luna Lillith." Ms. Lillith gives off a small smile, then heads downstairs. I start counting numbers on the doorways. 43, 44, 45, 46! Here we go! I open the door, which is unlocked. Inside is the most beautiful room I have ever seen. Two beds are on oppisite walls. The beds had the same build to a trundle bed, but no extra bed was under the first. One bed had a lovely sunny yellow blanket and fluffy golden pillows, but I was drawn to a navy blue bedspread and black pillows. Above the beds were chalkboards, along with chalk. I wrote my name on mine, then starts to read my favorite book, A Little Princess. I am just about to check out the rest of the room, but the door opens, and out steps another girl.

The girl can be anybody. I'm not exactly good at portraying another's character.

Hello everyone!

I'd like to remind you that classes will start first thing in the morning! We will be learning about the daylings and their behaviors. We will also start to study the nature of Night Terrors. Please note, do NOT attempt to summon your N.T. without a mentor in the area. All those who try will be sent straight to my office for further discussion.

It is not safe to summon your N.T. before learning more about the N.T.s themselves. You could risk serious mental and/or physical injuries. We will show you how to summon your N.T. when you are ready. Once that time comes the only thing you cannot allow yourself to do is to become afraid. Although the N.T.s can be trained to be harmless, yours are still extremely feral and will attack if they sense any fear.

Thank you for reading. I hope you all settle into your rooms without issue, as there will be NO changes in room arrangement. NO negotiations, all roommates are final.

Signed: Headmaster,

Luna Lillith

I didn't include the backstory in my sheet, but River has a twin brother that's suffering from the ravages of the daylings. He hasn't died or gone missing  yet, but it's only a matter of time.

River:

The nightmares. They never stop. I've been nahving them for as long as I can remember, and they've nerve lessened. My parents have taken me to several different child psychologists, put me on all sorts of medications, but they never help. I've encourages them to stop wasting their money, but they won't listen. THey insist that there's some traumatic even I've either repressed or are't telling them aboubt. What they refuse to accept, hwoever, is that my nightmares only show events that haven't happened yet, as if they're prophetical. The most common on is my brother being killed by the daylings, which hasn't happened... yet.

When I got my letter inviting me to come to S.E.A., my parents were more than thrilled. They believed this would be the key to stopping my nightmares. Of course, I know it can't be a coincidence that I for this letter- someone out there obviously knows about my condition, but I'm only hoping theyll have the key to helping Clay as well.

"River!"

I turned over in bed to face my brother on the opposite side of the room. Still sound asleep, lost in his dreams. It was almost impossible to wake him up these days, and if you could, he would snap and yell at you for interrupting his wonderful fantasies.

"The bus will be here in an hour! Are all your things packed?"

"Yes, mom," I said, sitting down at the table. "I'm all ready to go."

"I'm so happy for you, that we'll finally be able to stop these once and for all."

"Yeah, but we'll have to see if whatever methods they use can help Clay as well. Our afflications are opposite, yet related. I hope whatever I learn there can help him."

"Sweetie, I understand your concern, but remember this is about curing you. Clay is fine. HIs daydreams have simply gotten a little out of control, but they're really harmless."

They don't know about the daylings, hwo dangerous they are. Clay might be dead any day now, and they don't even care. I resolved to tell them, soon. Maybe then they would understand how vital it is to ure him right away.

One rushed hour later, I was on the bus to S.E.A.
I didn't get to say goodbye to Clay.

The bus ride passed in a blur. I didn't notice where we were going, nor did I care, until we arrived. Looming over us was a large stone castle. It looked almost like a small city. The nervous bunch of new students warily approached the gate, until we were greeted by who I could only assume was the headmaster, Luna Lillith.

"Welcome everyone! You have all been specifically chosen as gifted children showing promise of being able to control your own Night Terrors!" She exclaims. "This is no easy task; very few have the ability to do so. Not all of you will be able to. If you do, you might gain scars such as mine," She gestures down to her legs, stained with inky black scars. "But! All of you have been chosen for greatness. Here your greatness shall begin! Here, at S.E.A. you'll be turned into heroes! I wish you all good luck! I'll leave you to my trusty assistant Igor." A tall, bulky man steps out of the shadows, followed by a small red fox.

"Alright, everyone, ready to see the rest of the campus?" Asks an unknown voice. Everyone looks around because Igor's mouth never moved."

"Ah, yes. "Luna says. "Igor has been a mute since his dayling attack, but his N.T. Ember is more than willing to tell you what he's thinking. Adieu, everyone!"

Igor leads everyone around the school, finally ending at the dorms.

"Over here," Ember gestures. "Is the dorm Lucidum, where most of the seniors and masters live. You all will be living a few dorms down. That is where all beginners go, both girls and boys. Into the dorm Misce. You all will be trusted to behave and report any suspicious behavior. On your invitation, there will be your room numbers. I suggest you get to unpacking. Classes start tomorrow." Igor twists the handle and the door to Misce swings wide open. "Good day!" The door slams shut behind us, leaving us in darkness. Someone finds a light switch, and all the recruits scramble to find their room numbers.

70, I thought, walking down the hall to find it. Swinging open the door, I see two girls already in there.

"Hello," I say, greeting them. "I'm River. What are your names?"

"I'm Lyn," one girl squeaks.

"Val," the other says offhandedly. I shut the door and drop my backpack on an empty bed. It's going to be a long year.

~Val

I placed my meek amonut of possetions on the yellow bed closest to the windows. I smiled in the red-head's-gosh i alread forgat her name- direction, then rolled my eyes at the pillows when she gave a little half-im-stressed-leave-me-alone smile. Then we sorta kinda sat there awkwardly. She was going through her stuff and putting things in drawers and the closets and such, but I had so little I just thought it best to keep my stuff on the bed. So I procceded to stare out the two small windows for... who knows how long. From there I could see the yard behind the dorm rooms, it was really grassy and plain, with a few trees here and there and maybe some flowers. It sure wasn't a sight to behold like the dramatic entrance, that's for sure.

There was a racket behind the door and I turned my head right as another white girl walked through the doors. I stiffled an eye-roll. "Hello! I'm River. What are your names?" And she was peppy too. Great.

"I'm Lyn." The red-head whispered, folding some clothes or something.

"Val." I go back to staring out the window. There was one more bed besides the blue one that the girl had just set her stuff on, and I wondered impaciently if I was going to have to share my life with three peppy white girls.

A little while passed and I had started to doze by the window, dreaming of flying and escaping the burdens of the earth, when there was a knock on the door. I looked up right as four envelopes slid under the door. The brown-haired white girl got up to fetch them and the red-head followed a little behind. "They're from the Headmaster." The brown-haired girl whispered, flipping one open.

"Oh," the red-head whispered, taking one out of the other girl's hand and then going back to her bed.

The oher girl turned to me, who was curiously watching them, and half-heartedly tried to toss me a folded letter. It flipped in the air and landed on the floor a little ways from my bed with a soft flunk. She flushed as I got up to get it, but as I was reaching for it she thought it wise to bend down at the same time. Our hands touched for a breif moment and I pulled away quickly.

She grabbed the letter and held it up with a nervious laughing sound, "sorry. Shouldn't have thrown it."

I grabbed it very quickly. "Thanks." And retreded back to my bed.

I scanned through the letter fairly fast and read any details that stuck with me the most. Do not summon your NT. Okay, thought that's what this school was for? Oh, ok it's not safe. But would it be better then having a dayling? Yes, dayings would give us (me) way worse mental and or physical problums. (right?). I would like to take my risks, Headmaster whats-her-face. You cannot become afraid. I felt a paing of anxiety shoot through my bones and I swallowed before blinking, Sorry, Headmaster. Might be a bit of a problum. See, my brain has gotten the impression that everything's a threat, so I'm always afraid, no matter if I feel it or not. Not my fault, but I guess having a feral attack-y NT is better then a dayling (or is it?)

I blinked as I scanned over the last paragraph of the text, then went back and red it. "NO room changes? ALL ROOMS ARE FINAL?!" It took me a moment to realize I had said that outloud.

I turned to my two white-girl friends. "Oh. Sorry dears." Then I proceded to drop the letter on the floor and turn to stare out the window, wondering if either my NT or a dayling would kill me first.

~Bear (not sure if I'm allowed to write as him or not but I'm bord so here we go) (also I realized I didnt give him any weaknesses but he has like very bad anxiety and is somewhat depressed and that messes with his head a lot, he says he's not good at things but he is, especially math.)

I held my head high and tried to smile at every face I saw as I made it to my dorm. Room number 54. I tried not to acknowlage the sweatyness of my palms as I neared the room.

I fummbled with the door handle as The big brass letters loomed ahaid of me on the wall. "Move!" Some kid said, pushing past as I stummbled.

"S-sorry! Sorry!" I responded quickly, grabbing my bag out of the middle of the hallway (where I had accedentaly dropped it).

There, the door swong open. Rather quickly too, and I winced as it made a sound against the white wall. "Uh, oops." I smiled into the room, there were already two kids, I was towards the back of the busses so it made sence that I was last- or second to last- I corrected myself as I saw another bed.

I picked the white one in the middle of the room.

I looked over to one of the other kids, white with fuzzy-lookin hair. "Uh, hey kid." I started, unsure whether or not to touch him. "Hey, hi? I'm Bear? Your other roommate?"

Hi only responce was to reach up and pick at his ear. I sat back on my bed.

There was a clatter towards the bathroom and I turned just as another kid walked out. He looked a little startled as he saw me, but I smiled and said anyways, "hey, I'm Bear, your other roommate!"

"O-oh." I stuttered. "I'm Loki."

"Cool." I responded, before turning to wave in the other kid's direction. "And he is?"

"Uh." He cracked a small smile. "I have no idea, to be honest."

"Oh. Well, we'll figure it out eventually." I turned to look at the kid again. He wasn't paying attention to our converstaion.

I turned back to the other kid but he had started to unpack his things. I blinked. I should probably do that too. I took out my bathroom-things and brought them over to the bathroom. I was well aware of the other kid- oh no I forgat his name already!- uh, L....Lake?- watching me as I dissapeared into the room.

I stopped very quickly. The mirror was gone. I wouldn't have noticed or cared really if I haden't imidietly been drawn to the shards still attached to the late-mirror's frame, and blood splaters on the door, and small shards of glass inbetween the tiles on the ground. And the amount of glass in the trash and broom perched by the toilet. "Um....hey? Did you guys have a fight in here or something? You alright?" I slowly peaked my head outside the door.

The kid who had actually talked to me -Larry?- looked up. "Oh no." He looked over at the kid on the bed. "He smashed it with his fists."

"Oh." I blinked a few times and furrowed my brow. "Why?"

"Um." The kid's voice was seemingly getting quieter. "I don't know." I thought it best not to pester him anymore. He seemed like the quiet type anyway and might get annoyed if I kept talking.

"Oh, okay."

I went back to putting my bathroom stuff away. Then there was a slight knock on the door, and I emidiatly rushed over to open it, but saw the letters laying folded on the floor first. I picked them up and opened one. "Oh cool." I said. "Classes start tommoro. Um, also a little...alarming slightly." I frowned as I read through the rest of it.

I looked up, and saw L-oh gosh whats his name!- looking at me expectantly. "Oh yea, sorry. Here." I handed him a letter. "And here." I placed one on the empty bed (when was the other kid going to get here? Like seriously.) "And, er," I paused as I got to the last kid, decided that it was okay to tap his shoulder, and tapped his shoulder. He made a weird shrugging motion and turned to look at me. "uh here?" I held out the letter.

He looked at it for a few seconds, then took it and flipped it open.

I sighed, walking back to my bed. I was in for a long year.

Hyra~

I open the door to my room and stop. Three boys look back at me. I glance down at my room key. For some unknown reason, the numbers on my key and on the door match.

"Um, I think there may have been a mix up..." I stammer. The nearest boy nods.

"That would make sense, wouldn't it? I'm Bear. You're welcome to stay in here until we can sort this out, right guys?" Bear smiles at the two other kids. One cocks an eyebrow but no objections are raised. I wave a hand.

"Thanks, you all seem like lovely people and I would love to make your acquaintances elsewhere, but at the moment I think I'll just leave you to yourselves and go find an authority on this kind of thing." I give them a half-smile, turn, and walk away, closing the door behind myself.

I'm alive!

~~~
I wince behind -I think his name was Bear-'s back, he seems nice but he seems quite uncomfortable, like he's waiting for me to hit him or something. I walk over to my bed and lean my back against the wall, sighing and closing my eyes. Classes start tomorrow and I still have so much to do. I pull out my old, beat up, computer from my bag and turn it on.
It's an ancient thing, doesn't even have facial recognition software, but for some reason, the older style has always had a calming effect on me. I start to type away, fingers flying across the physical keyboard.
I must have fallen asleep because I open my eyes to a dark room, two sleeping forms under the covers of their beds. I look around, wondering what had woken me, I see the bathroom light is on, the last roommate had arrived.
Greetings students!
A bus has been delayed because of a recent dayling attack. Do not worry, they are on their way, but will be arriving late. Please review the names below and be sure to properly greet these students upon arrival!
Everyone should be sorted into their proper rooms listed below:
Room 32:
Azlyn Estee
Hyra
River
Valentina Katherine
Room 46:
Winnie Rosewood
Astelle Rose Estefan
Green Goode
Chuks Kojo
Room 54:
Stephan Pirgshmt
Bear
Loki
Gannon Lillith
There will all be NPCs, so there's no need to find someone to write in their point of view. Unless one particularly looks interesting to you.
Name: Green Goode
Age (12-18): 14
Appearance: Very short for his age, big brown eyes, crazy head of black curls, tan-ish skin, wide smile, childish, wears a shirt with a dragon on the back. Has a long scar that starts at his neck and crosses his chest.
Personality: Very hyperactive, can barely be contained. Has extreme difficulty staying in one place. Can talk for hours and hours on end, very fast talker. Is fascinated with dinosaurs and dragons. Always full of energy even at like 5 in the morning when he wakes up. Class clown. Really funny.
(Optional) Backstory (Keep this short if you do it!): Orphaned at a young age when his parents went off into the military to fight daylings. They went MIA and he has been staying with his aunt, Preslie. (Aunt Pres.)
Strengths/Weaknesses: He is very enthusiastic, so he tends to get carried away easily. Doesn't tend to notice small details. Is horrible at following directions. He is a very fast runner, and because of his small size, he can sneak almost anywhere. Can be a bit of a thief.
Worst Fear (This will play into how your NT looks later in the story): Running out of time
What would you like to name your NT once you meet them: Kali (Hindi myth of the wife of Shiva, the devourer of time.)
Name: Chuks Kojo
Age (12-18): 17
Appearance: Very tall, polished, serious. Brick red eyes. Extremely dark, almost pitch black skin. His hair is dyed dark red and is in a buzz cut. Has a sharp look to him. Sort of skinny and lanky. Likes wearing nicer clothing.
Personality: Although he looks cold and unforgiving, he's actually the opposite. He's very caring, sweet, and gentle. Is almost like a big brother to Greene, and acts as his bodyguard. He's very good with younger kids and doesn't like the hostility of people around his age.
(Optional) Backstory (Keep this short if you do it!): His best friend Ayma Goode was brutally attacked by a dayling right in front of his eyes. He then vowed to take care of her brother until he was able to find a way to rescue her.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Very easy to talk to and get along with. Has a very calming effect. Can calm anyone down, even Greene. Has the best advice. He is a little too good at hiding his emotions. After a while of having them cooped up they all have to explode out.
Worst Fear (This will play into how your NT looks later in the story): Never seeing Ayma again.
What would you like to name your NT once you meet them:  Maya
This is the only character that I might write in their point of view.
Name: Gannon Lillith
Age (12-18): 16
Appearance: Snow white hair that's slicked back into a small ponytail. Fairly skinny, looks almost exactly like Luna. His skin is almost too pale to seem human. Gives off a friendly and generous aura. He has a strange pitch black eye that contrasts greatly with his stormy grey eye. He has a long black scar snaking around his left arm.
