Dear Cber,

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Dear Cber,

Dear Cber,

You are one of the selected few formally invited to the Somnum Exterreri Academy, otherwise known as S.E.A. Our Academy is the first of its kind, a school that specializes in the catching, research, and training of nightmares. You may not know this now, but your nightmares are caused by creatures called Night Terrors (NTs). They have the appearance of a monster but don't be intimidated by their looks. These creatures can be tamed with proper training.

Here at S.E.A., we defend the world from Daydreams/Daylings. You may think daydream creatures are good, but they are anything but. They lure their victims in and attack once their victims are completely absorbed in fantasy. The spike of recent disappearances of children is something we need to stop.

So sign up today to join S.E.A., to keep the world from drowning in dreams.

Signed the Headmaster,

Luna Lillith

Here is your sign up form! Hope to see you at S.E.A. (Only one sign up per Cber please!)

Name: Azlyn (Lyn) Estee

Age (12-18): 15

Appearance: Kind of short, bright red hair that's been braided behind her back, slim, fair skin covered in freckles, bright emerald eyes, likes wearing green hoodies and purple shorts, only wears sneakers, wearing a small gold necklace with an eye carved in the pendant.

Personality: Lyn is pretty friendly, but only after you've known her for a bit. She prefers to observe to gain knowledge than to actually do anything. She's sort of quiet but when she gets angry she turns into a whole new person. She's a lover of books and loves learning knowledge for the sake of knowledge.

Backstory (Keep this short if you can!): Her little brother Farall went missing when she was nine. When she asked her parents what happened to him they only said: "He just liked the world in his mind better than the real one." As soon as she figured out what a Dayling was, she knew exactly what happened to her brother, and wanted to find a way to get him back.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Her strength is her ability to deduce, sort of like Sherlock does in the BBC version. From her years of observing, she has a pretty good understanding of how the world works. Her weakness, along with her lack of physical strength, is her lack of patience and trust. When someone is taking to long to understand something she is explaining, she can get very annoyed and a little aggressive. Her parents constantly lying and keeping secrets from her keeps her from trusting people until they prove they are genuine.

Worst Fear (This will play into how your NT looks later in the story): The Fog/not being able to see

What would you like to name your NT once you meet them: Fernando

I only have one thing to say to you before you go. Just remember: Not everything is as it seems. Keep your eyes open, for if you close them it might cost your life.

Whatever you do...

Don't fall asleep.

Lyn~

As much as I'm glad to be here, I'm really more stressed than anything. I've always had a room to myself growing up (luckily) and I'm very fond of my privacy. Even though I'm sure these girls are nice, they kind of make me uncomfortable. It's not their fault, just the fact there is no such thing as personal space or privacy in a dorm room.

I try to finish unpacking my bag, making a list of everything I brought so I know if it goes missing (happens in dorm life.) My wooden bear carving, my leather Celtic patterned notebook, lots of clothes, as many books as I could fit into my bad, and my small collection of Irish gold coins in a small wooden box. I looked at one of the bigger coins and traced my finger over the design, remembering how my grandmother gave them to me. She said they were the first coins she got as a child in Ireland. I've kept them on me ever since that day.

As I finish packing I hear one of the girls reading out a letter from Luna Lillith. "NO room changes? ALL ROOMS ARE FINAL?!" She shouts in disbelief. I don't think she realized she said that out loud because she immediately snaps back to normal and apologizes.

I don't blame her though, she's surrounded by a bunch of white girls. I don't want her to feel like an outcast so I'll have to find a way to show her. Not today though. I bet I can find some way tomorrow when we get to know each other during lessons. For now, it's time to sleep.

~Time skip to morning~

Everyone wakes to a start when a loud booming voice echoes through the hallway. "LESSONS START IN HALF AN HOUR. ALL STUDENTS SHOULD BE GETTING READY." I'm embarrassed by the fact that I let out a little scream. Oh well, I heard another in the room so at least I'm not alone. Everyone simultaneously leaps out of bed and starts getting ready. My hair is way too curly today so I don't even bother braiding it as usual and just plop a beanie on. As soon as I step outside of the dorm room, chaos surrounds me. Apparently, everyone else is late too. I start making my way down to class, running down the hallways. I crash face first into what I think is a person. We both fall to the ground and I meet eyes with who I bumped into. It's a boy, one I haven't seen before. Before I can get a really good look at him, he gets up, apologizes, and dashes off. I shake my head, then stand back up and start running again.

Everyone is rushing to their seats right as the bell rings. A man with dark brown hair and orange eyes is standing in the front of the room.

"Welcome everyone. My name is Professor Dravin Batin, but you may call me Dravin." The professor states. "Today we will start learning the behavior and history of Night Terrors. In order to be able to properly control your NT, you have to know about how they work."

The class makes a small sigh. No summoning today. How boring. I could tell everyone was anxious to meet their NT. Of course, I am too.

"Let's get started with the basics," Dravin slams a large, black leather book on the table. As he turns the pages it looks like small wisps of shadows are floating off the pages. "Everyone turn to page 14 of your Guide to All Things Mystical. Read over this chapter quickly. I will come around and answer individual questions. Since today is your first day in class, I will go easy on you."

I slowly reach under my desk to pull out the giant book. Well, time to read I suppose.

When facing a supernatural creature, one must be able to identify what species it is. There are three main categories of supernaturals: the daydreams, nightmares, and the outcasts. Daydream creatures, as their name suggests, feed off of the energy of daydreams. Many of these creatures are malevolent, with the intent of being a mental parasite. They'll feed off the love for the daydream being presented, and will move from host to host once one has been drained. Daydream creatures are mostly shapeshifters, with lower leveled ones being stuck in one singular form. Reference the chart below.

Level 1: Unable to shift in forms. Most are stuck in the weak form of a small firefly-like creature. Will not reveal itself to anyone but the victim. Normally has a haze surrounding its image. Has minimal influence on daydreams. Symptoms are minor, if even noticeable at all.

Level 2: Starts to have the ability to change minor aspects of appearance: ears, eyes, limbs, tail. Normally size at around two to three inches in height. Begin influencing dreams. Minor behavioral changes will start to show, including, but not limited to: sleepiness, confusion, disinterest in activities, and loss of appetite.

Level 3: The daydream creature will start maturing faster from this stage. Has full control over appearance other than the haze surrounding it. Will become a major influence in dreams, but only dreams alone. Victims will start seeing their creature around this time, formally turning it into a Dayling, and not just a day creature.

Level 4: Dayling has created a lasting bond with the victim. They will now get defensive and protective of the Dayling. Dayling starts appearing as an imaginary friend and will have a minor influence on the real world around them.

Level 5: This is an extremely dangerous form of Dayling. Any attempt of confrontation without the assistance of an NT will more than likely end in death or contamination. Daylings at this level can kill NTs, especially untrained ones. Victims with these will soon perish or become a mindless zombie sort of creature and need to immediately be quarantined.

The next main category of supernatural creature is the nightmare based. These creatures are commonly known as Night Terrors. Most Night Terrors are easily identified by their extreme, and sometimes frightening mutations. These creatures feed off of fear from the nightmares they cause. Most would view nightmares as a negative thing, but these creatures use them to try and help you overcome your fear. These creatures are mostly oriented to be good, or simply loyal to their hosts. They are extremely protective and most would die to keep their host safe, after bonding. When one first summons an NT, most will not recognize their owners and will be hostile. Once you show the NT you are its host, it will create an unbreakable bond between you and itself. It will take on a role similar to that of a spirit animal. One main thing I have noticed about NTs is that there are none that even remotely resemble humans. The only supernatural creatures to resemble humans are the Daylings. Night Terrors will mostly take on the form of an animal like creature, mostly those from fantasy. Most will also have unique mutations that relate to the host's worst fears.

Later chapters will list summoning incantations, strengthening exercises, strengths, weaknesses, and fighting techniques.

I close the books and look around the room. People have started gathering into circles to discuss the reading. I walk over shyly to a random group of people and begin to talk with them.

Hey guys im sorry if I don't get around to posting anything new in the next few weeks, claaws is failing more then one class and finals are coming up...

so for now...

~Val

Our last roomate finally arrived, the rooms were mixed up or somethin, I don't really know I wasn't paying attention. The moon was far in the sky by the time a tore my eyes away from the silver-kissed feilds and outlined mountain cliffs behind the window. Everyone was asleep, and I was glad there were no snorers. Yet. I sighed.

Something sturred in the pit of my stomach and I turned to the window again, hoping the silver of the moon would help distract me from my discomfort. It didn't. My brain chose this time to have a fashback, to my dad, smelling foul, taring a book from my hands and raising it high. "the daylings will take you if you indulge yourself in such nonsense!" He swong the book down in an arch and the sound of silent pain and swallowed tears filled my head.

For a brief second I was back at that place that I had called home.

Then I blinked, and the silver fields and mountains behind the boarding school was back. I sighed again, rubbing my chest, hoping that maybe it would make the pain go away.

"I don't know what to do, Shane." I whispered so quiety that the breathing of the other girls was louder. "I've left. I've come to get help. Yet, it's like nothing has changed." I blinked my eyes at the riged cliffs in the distance. "I don't want to live like this."

Why don't you think of other things? Like, how your NT will look. Will you make friends at school? Maybe your NT will be a brilliant dragon and you could ride it into the stars. Think about your adventures together! The voice in my head told me, trying his best to distract me. I don't neccisarly know why the voice in my head is male, all the other ones are female, like my voice. But who can tell, he was a person I made up to keep me company anyways. Even though I wouldn't like to admit it.

"Maybe I'll be a brilliant hero that saves the world from the Daylings." I whispered, looking down at my pillow, lit silver by the light of the moon spilling through the window.

Then I lay down and tried to sleep, but fantasys of what could be flowed through my head like rushing rivers, keeping me awake for some time.

~

"She isn't getting up."

"Maybe I should poke her."

"I'm not waking her up, you do it."

"Fine."

I was poked sharply in the shoulder. I didn't move. The smells of cinnamon and nutmeg still hung around me in a warm haze, my dream still clinging to me tightly, even though at this point I was mostly awake.

"You have to poke her harder then that. Here, like this."

My shoulder was shook rather violently and in an instant I was upright with the assaulter's arm clenched behind her back. I blinked a few times, yawned, and looked unregisteringly at the faces of the three shocked girls looking back at me. I looked down at the girl's arm. "Oh." I managed to mutter as I let go. The girl turned around and looked at me with sharp, angry green eyes, rubbing her arm. "Sorry." I sat down on my bed, rubbing my face. I yawned again. They all looked at me expectantly. "What'r we doing?"

"We're going to class. You have like, 15 minutes to get ready." The girl whose arm I pinned behind her back told me sharply. I think her name was like, Linda or something.

Lyn.

Oh. Right.

"Oh shoot 15 minutes?" I was staring out the window again. The mountain cliffs seemed to have a different light to them in the early morning.

"Yes." The brown haired girl, I think she was the one who had poked me, answered with a click of her tongue. When I didn't move she rolled her eyes and went back to getting ready herself.

The other one, Hyra I think, the one who got lost, was glancing at me in a judging way but didn't say anything as I continued to stare out the window, half-asleep.

By some merical I managed to change clothes, brush my hair, put on the small amount of makeup that I used to cover my insecurities, and follow the crowd to class. I also didn't get lost.

But of course I was the last one there.

I inched into a seat at the back of the class and leaned over to a boy who was nose-deap in a book. "Hey do you have any idea what we're doing?"

He looked over at me slyly and smiled. "Reading a book. It's under your desk."

I pulled it out right as the teacher cleared his throat. "Now let's all move around and discuss what we read with our friends?"

"Uh, well," I said, pullling the book out.

"Come over here. We'll catch you up." He gestured to three other kids and I pieced together that they were his roommates.

"Oh cool, okay."

"I'm Bear, by the way." He offered as we shuffled to form a circle. I noticed the tattoo on his shoulder and was suddenly very glad that I wasn't the only not-white kid here.

"I'm Val."

That's when I caught the eyes of the palest kid that I had ever seen. Just the look of him gave me a very bad feeling, not to mention the strange black tattoo that snaked up his arm. That must have a dark meaning, shouldn't it? He seemed nice as he told me his name, also remarking how he liked the hoops in my ear. Gannon. The voice shuddered as he whispered the name. It sounded like a villain's name.

Don't trust him.

I knew not to, even though he seemed so charming and nice, sometimes those types of people hold the darkest thoughts.

I would know better than anyone.

Hey everyone! Sorry, I haven't been posting lately, I've had some serious problems with my internet. It's mostly fixed now, and I'd love to revive this RP! I have some really cool ideas I'd like to put into this!

If it continues to die off I may make this into a solo write so I can at least finish the story.

Uh, that being said I might be off in on cause I don’t have internet access at home usually and as you may know I’ve been in and out of the mental hospital lately. But I hope this doesn’t die I really like this idea!!
