Aghteh?

Mmm-hm.

New story. Old one can't be dialogued.

A girl slid through the crowd, glancing often over her shoulder often. Whispers and pointing followed her, and one man raised a GemCall to his mouth, eyes tracking the suspicious girl. She walked faster, nearly tripping on her long skirts. This time when she looked over her shoulder, she saw a squad of Imperial soldiers. She turned into the doorway of a tall cement 'scraper. Inside, she pounded up a rickety metal starcase. Up, up, up to the fourtieth floor. It was hard to run in these skirts, but how else was she to keep warm?

She was at forty-nine when she paused for breath and felt other feet on the stairs. Soldiers. She was one floor away. Five steps. She threw the door open and stumbled, panting, onto floor 50. A ladder to the roof. Where? "'Right in the middle. Can't miss it.' He says. Well, he can't miss it, but I can." She muttered. "Oh. There. Sorry, Able." The seam was barely visible, but it was there. She pried it open, standing on some cinderblocks. Down came more metal stairs. She kicked the cinderblocks away and immediately regretted it, but went on. Finally she was at the top. She folded the stairs back up and closed the trapdoor. Then, spotting some cinderblocks, she rolled them over the top. POST MORE LATER!!

Then, spotting more cinderblocks, she rolled them onto the door. It wouldn't hold the Imperial's fancy Phasers for long, but she only needed a little more time. The frost of her breath was tuned out by the steam from a ship's engines. "Oh, you're here." She had a habit of talking to herself. The Ranithol's hatch opened, not a second too late. Phaser beams were cutting at the cement, smoke twining with steam. She jumped in. The Ranithol's hatch slammed shut and the ship powered to the sky.

She began shedding layers until she stood in a simple pair of trousers and a tank top. She pulled the pinchy shoes off her feet. How could people stand to wear those things?

"Yo, Aera", Able's voice echoed through the ship's speakers. "Hi, Able." "Have you got Fire?" That was Jai. "Of course I did." Jai couldn't see her eye roll. So he heard it instead. "Then get to SeeSee and give me the thing!" Jai, Jai, Jai. Always so impatient when it came to books or calculations. And this special tome was both, so double the impatience. He'd already gobbled Water. Aera ran along the corridor, mindful of her pained foot, to Command Central, or SeeSee.

She pushed open the door and came face-to-face with Jai.

"You couldn't wait ten seconds for me to cross the room?" Aera asked as she handed Jai Fire. He shook his head and retreated to a chair where he could read in peace.

"Okay, Aera, I need to tell you something very important." Able swiveled his chair away from the ship's controls to face Aera. "When you are doing someting illegal and quite possibly worldbending, don't act like it. That means don't look over your shoulder every forty seconds as you practically sprint across Batalla Sector." He turned back to the controls just in time to avoid an especially tall 'scraper. Aera picked a seat, and Able turned to her again.

"But other than that, you did well. For one thing, you didn't get beaten up.

More LATER.

I have no idea, I'm fairly sure mine will qualifiy as a novella by the time it's done.

For one thing, you didn't get beaten up." As opposed to Able himself, who was black-and-blue, still bruised from stealing Water. "Well, I did kick a cinderblock." Aera admitted. Able laughed at that. Short and sharp. Jai looked up from his reading and held up three fingers. A point to her, for making Able laugh. It was their game, this two-month cycle, and she was winning 3-1. "So what are we doing now?" Aera asked. "Now we'll get Gaia. You know how?" Of course. Gaia was only Aera's sister.                                                                                                                                              After Aera and Gaia were aboard safely, they went to SeeSee, where Jai immediately began spouting arithmatic and physics and stuff like that to Gaia. Aera ignored all that and went to sit at a table with a mug of water.                                                                                                               Able called Gaia over. "Gaia. We've got Fire and Water. Six left, and we need you onboard 24/7." "Alright. But what happened to you?" Gaia hadn't seen them since before they got Water, and Able still looked pretty bad if you weren't used to it. "Complications."                                                           Aera looked at everyone. Jai still engrossed in Fire. Gaia and Able bent over a map. Even Captain Cat, prowlig around looking for mice. She might miss Harry, but right now? She was happy.

Okay, so it isn't a novella. But I did edit a huge chunk out on the spot.

Sorry about stopping/starting, but I was using the computer in between Wikipedia research on March's part.

@Admin- or anyone else who can help me-

My short story is too long to comment, so is there another way I can submit one?

Thanks-

Luminescence.

Strawberri created this contest with a 300-word limit. But you can post a longer story on another thread, or create your own thread for it. There is no limit that I know of for the length of comments on Chatterbox in general.

Oh okay. Thanks Admin. I thought it said at least 300 words, which was why I was confused.
