Chatterbox: Inkwell

Another superpower RP.

Another superpower RP.

As you race home from the Y, seeking shelter from the sudden storm, a strange terror arises in you. You walk faster, pulling your hood up. Finally you see the comfort of home. But you also see a dark shadow coming up the street towards you. You break into a run and are unlocking the door when the shadowy figure comes up and hands you a letter. Then they run off into the rain.

Don't top this until I do the letter. I need to be able to find it.

Oh, I forgot to include her clothing description- I guess for the time being, she’s wearing casual hanbok.

Swan~

I took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of the incense. I had decided to sit under our sakura in the front garden while I waited for the people from the letter to arrive and burn something. I needed to just sit and calm down. To say I was nervous would be an understatement. I had barely ever gone out of the house before because of the way things are, so suddenly leaving to go to a completely foregin place wasn’t exactly on my bucket list. But I knew I had to, if I ever wanted to live a peaceful life and have control over my...abilities.

Without warning, I felt a hand lightly touch my shoulder and I sprung up, automatically forming a defencive position. It wasn’t helping that I couldn’t recognise the other person, but before I could open my mouth to speak, he beat me to it.

“I’m sorry, I tried to call your name but I didn’t know if you could hear me. I’m Messenger, you got a letter..?”

My brain finally caught up with his words and I relaxed, albeit sheepish and slightly embarrassed. I gave a small nod and he nodded back.

“Good. And you are Swan Cho, yes?”

I nodded once again, and he looked to the small bag now in front of him that carried my essentials.

“Can I help you with that?”
I gave a small smile and nodded, and he nodded back, grabbing the bag.

“If you’ll follow me.”

I watched as he walked towards a black car parked in the rounded driveway. I turned to take one last look at the estate.

I can’t say I’ll miss you.

Taking a deep breath, I turned back with determination and followed the messenger to the car.

I nodded thanks as he opened it for me, and I sat next to a boy with a gray jacket, observing the others already there.

They gave curious glances out the window first to my house and then to me. I smiled politely but left it at that, until a younger boy with brown hair opened his mouth to speak.

“Are you royalty or something?”

I was taken aback just by the abruptness of the question, but after watching him wait for a response I saw nothing malicious- he was just genuinely curious.

I smiled and shook my head.

“Aw. Maybe in another life. Anyway hi, I’m Jethro.”

He reached out to shake my hand and I took it and nodded. We retracted, and he looked at me expectantly.

“Well what’s your name?”

I kind of just stared blankly back at him, and I couldn’t say why. The sudden realisation that I was going to be with strangers and far away from home hit me and I found it extremely difficult to open my mouth.

“Do you talk?” a girl asked with black hair that had vibrant blue streaks in it. “Like, you know, ‘Hi I’m Crystal so you must be…?’”

I looked at her then looked down at her t-shirt that had a “Crystal” across the front. I gave a small smile.

Maybe I should take a page from her book.

Her cheeks turned the slightest shade of pink and she gave a small huff. Apparently my moment of amusement didn’t go unnoticed. “What?”

Jethro once again spoke. “So like… what’s your name?”

“Just leave it be,” the boy next to me said, looking up from his book with annoyance. “Let’s keep it quiet so some of us have room to think about what’s happening.”

My eyes widened but I looked at the window to avoid anyone else’s glances. Jethro muttered a couple words in protest, but after that the car settled into a comfortable silence. Well, comfortable for me anyway. I find any form of silence comforting.

I watched as the main house drifted further and further away from view until we were through the gates and completely off the property. Suddenly a weight lifted off my chest and I felt excited for the first time in a while.

I gave a small smile. Although my future at this new place was uncertain, I didn’t mind any future outside of where I used to be.

I was finally out, and for the first time my life was in my own hands.

'I'm sorry' isn't in his vocabulary...................Neither are question marks..............

~ LARIAT

From the minute I got the letter, I wanted to go. I packed my bags and sat outside and waited. Two minutes later, I changed my mind. Too many people.

Then my brain flip-flopped- where else would a girl with wings fit in? Before my brain could full out mutiny, I heard a cough behind me. I turned around to find a boy in a dark cloak, glancing impatiently at a black limo by the curb I swear wasn't there two seconds ago.

"I trust you're here for the Institute?" he glances at my bags.

My throat contracts. I just nod.

He motions toward the limo.

I know my parents told me never to get into a stranger's car, but all that information seems to have been erased from my mind at the moment. I open the back door and climb in.

Inside are six other kids of varying ages, squeezed together in two rows of seats. I carefully climb in, trying not to bump anyone. There are three girls, and three boys, and all their luggage. I can tell there's more room at the back of the limo, though, so there might be more passengers coming. I smile at the girl next to me, in an attempt to be friendly. It comes out as more of a grimace.

"Hi," I squeak out. She has silver hair.

She gives a little wave, but says nothing.

I hear a meow, and notice the boy behind me has a cat. Another girl wears a black sweatshirt.

I force a smile. This could be fun. Or disastrous.

I guess I'll find out.
