Superhero Solo Write!

Two years ago there was an incident in the town of Silvertoe, Colorado.  A nearby nuclear plant had a malfunction, destroying the plant and causing strange abilities to spark in the young people who lived nearby.  Some discovered they had enhanced physical abilities.  Some discovered they could resonate with the environment around them.  All discovered that their lives would never be the same again.

Soon after, the town was put on lockdown by the governmentto prevent the news of these "superpowered" humans from getting out, and to keep them in check.  The citizens protested at first, but that changed nothing.  This conflict caused the once-tranquil town of Silvertoe to become divided.  Rebels became crimminals or plotted plans of escape, relishing in their newfound powers.  Heroes used these powers to try and keep the peace, or willingly joined the special force that the government had created to use the citizens' powers for military goals.  The others, known as "Neutrals", tried to retain as much of their typical lives as they could, wishing for the peace of the past.  This is where we find our story.

This is my first solo write, but I'm pretty exited for it!  Here's the charrie sheet-

Since you submitted your charrie sheet as you, is there anything else you'd want to change (ex. appearence, personality) for Jax?

@Sterling, I am changing her appearance and personality, but not by much. She now wears dark clothes (on the verge of being goth) and has teal streaks in her hair instead of pink. And her personality is uber-confident and cocky, which sometimes makes people like her, and sometimes brings about her downfall. It can go both ways. Again, sorry 4 the inconvenience!!

Part 2

Whatever Dawn needed to tell her, Fiya knew it was important.  School had just gotten out for the day and when Fiya opened her locker, a hurriedly-written note slipped out.  She’d picked it up and recognized the cursive writing as her friend Dawn’s, but her handwriting was usually neat and orderly.  Something was up with Dawn if she’d written this sloppily.  All the note had said was that Dawn had found something big and that Fiya should meet her at their hideout in the park.

Their “hideout” wasn’t much of a hideout, as it was a treehouse clearly visible in Dawn’s front yard.  But they’d dubbed it a hideout all the same and used to meet there every day after school.  This all changed when the nuclear accident happened and Silvertoe was locked down, though.  The two girls both discovered they now had superpowers and Dawn decided that she would become a Hero.  Fiya was excited about this, but she almost never saw her friend anymore.  And she wasn’t sure she wanted to be a Hero herself.  The accident had thrown her entire life into chaos.  She’d gotten out of touch with her best friend, she’d lost her aunt and uncle, her town had gotten shut down, and now she was in foster care.  Sure, her foster parents were good, but they’d never be able to replace Aunt Sam and Uncle Gray.  She missed her old life.

As she neared the house Norris, the tiny dragon-winged kitten she’d created with her powers, yawned and curled up on her shoulder.  Fiya smiled and carefully petted him.  At least one good thing had come out of it.  She loved the new animal companions she had.  “Hey!  Fiya!” Dawn’s voice called out.  She looked up and saw her waving from the treehouse, the afternoon sun shining off of her golden earrings.  Fiya ran towards her friend and climbed up the wobbly ladder to their hideout.  The inside of the treehouse was dusty, but the pictures taped on the walls and the board games scattered across the floor brought back memories.  The two girls hugged, and Fiya tried not to cry. “I’ve missed you,” she told Dawn.

Her friend grinned. “Me too.  I’m sorry that I’ve been so busy.”  She pulled a wooden crate full of papers out from behind her.  Norris flew off of Fiya’s shoulder and sniffed at the box. “Is this what the note was about?” Fiya asked.  “It just looks like a bunch of files.”

“That’s what I thought too, until I took a closer look.  They’re all about superpowers or the possibilities of radioactivity or the incident here.  But I got ‘em off of a Rebel that was stealing what I thought was the produce that gets shipped here.  And take a look at THIS.” She handed a file labeled The Hercules Project to her.

Fiya peered at it.  The file had an interesting name, for sure.  She opened it up and flipped through, but the entire text seemed to be in gibberish. “Is this… in code?” she asked, her curiosity blossoming.

“I think so,” Dawn answered.  “I haven’t been able to figure it out, but you know who probably can?”

“Jordon!” both girls said in unison.  They looked at each other and grinned.

“Hi, Fiya and Dawn!” Jordon said when they walked up to him at the hospital. “I assume you’re not here for medical reasons, so what’s up?  I can tell you’re quite excited.”

“Well, Dawn sort of found this cryptic file when she was chasing this Rebel and it’s in code and we know you’re good at figuring that sort of stuff out, so…” Fiya said breathlessly.

“That’s… interesting,” Jordon responded, laughing. “I guess I could check it out, if you wanted me to.  I have to admit, I’m curious.” Dawn handed him the file, and he examined it. ‘Hmm… Hercules Project, huh?”

As soon as he said those words, a thundering crash sounded from the other end of the hallway.

Part 3

Jordon was so startled he almost jumped backward.  He turned his eyes to the source of the sound, expecting something catastrophic.  But instead he saw two people slowly getting up off of the floor.  They must’ve ran into each other, he concluded.  One of them, a nurse named Laney that he knew, helped the other up.  He was a young man that Jordon didn’t recognize, and he looked hurt and embarrassed.  Jordon ran over to them, followed by Dawn and Fiya. “Are you alright?” he asked them, concerned.

Laney laughed sheepishly. “Yeah, I think so.  I’m such a ditz sometimes.” She turned to the boy next to her. “I am so sorry, Alex!”

Alex didn’t meet her eyes. “No… it’s m-my f-fault,” he muttered.

“Don’t worry about it,” Jordon reassured him. “These floors are honestly really slippery.  It's happened so many times to me.”

“Ooh, I wonder if we could, like, skate down them!” Dawn piped up. “That would be awesome.

“I don’t think so.  You’d probably end up being glad you were already at the hospital!” Laney told her, laughing. “Although it’s tempting.  Anyway, Alex-” She glanced behind her, but Alex had vanished. “Huh.  Anyway, I gotta get back to work.  I’ll see ya around!”

Once she was out of earshot, Dawn and Fiya burst out laughing. “She TOTALLY has a crush on you,” Fiya said.

Jordon raised his eyebrows. “So that’s what you were whispering about back there.” Both girls grinned.  He glanced quickly at his watch and cringed. “Oh, shoot, I’m supposed to be assisting with a surgery in ten minutes!  But I’ll be sure to take a look at that Hercules Project thing.”

As he stepped into the elevator a minute later, he thought about the boy that had been with Laney.  Jordon didn’t need to be an empath to know that Alex was a very socially anxious person, but there was also a strong layer of suspicion he’d sensed behind the initial shyness.  What would’ve made Alex so suspicious of him?  Jordon didn’t know.  Maybe it had something to do with the file he was still holding…

~

“Are you sure that’s what he said?” Jax asked.

Alex nodded. “I d-don’t know what it m-means though…” Jax was so confident, he almost felt less anxious around her.  She always had something to say.  And she was someone he felt like he could trust.  She was on his side.

“Well, we will soon.  Thanks, Alex- this is very helpful.” Jax couldn’t help smirking.  This was going perfectly.  As soon as he’d left, her phone rang.

“So did you get anything useful from him?” Sophie’s voice asked impatiently.

Jax hesitated.  She didn’t feel great about taking advantage of anyone, especially Alex. “Do you promise to follow through if I tell you?”

“I swear, but not if you have nothing to tell me,” Sophie answered.

Jax sighed. “Jordon Blackmore has the missing file.”

This is shorter than what I usually write, but another part will be out Wednesday or Thursday.

@Cole P, your charrie sounds really cool, but I'm sorry to say that all the spots for this solo write are filled.  I'd love to see him in another solo write or RP though!

YES! You captured Alex's character perfectly!

What exactly is his personality again? Traumatized kitten?

I know that was supposed to be an insult to my character designing abilities Sojo... But I am 100% using that on the next short story.
