CB Novelette Collab!

CB Novelette Collab!

This started on NaNo (lol there has been so many mentions like that on here the past few days) and I want to continue it! Basically, we played a synopsis-writing game then decided to write some of them as novelettes and compile them together! We were going to have a common string throughout them all -- we were thinking maybe a portal that has one small but distinctive detail the same each time.

What is a novelette? Good question! There are novels (I am going to hope you know what those are) and shorter than that is a novella and shorter than that is a novelette! (I think, I could be using the totally wrong word XD) we were thinking about 5000-20000 words in length each.

Ok, I've got one :) The title is Wishes and Wonder (which I got from the Title game on BaB). Here's the synopsis:

Scarlette lives in a fantastical forest with a village of humans. Further in the woods, there is said to be a dwelling of fierce and dangerous fairy creatures, and everyone is forbidden to leave the village. When her mother gets sick beyond cure, Scarlette departs in secret in pursuit of a rumored jewel that the fairies posses that is said to be able to grant any wish. Along the way, she encounters magical streams, trees, dragons and a few fairies who may or may not be as menacing as she grew up believing.

Is this still going on?

I just started writing Capital T and am planning on writing 5000 words this week. Are we still doing the portal connection thing? Also, top.

I'm still up for the portal connection thing! And I definately think we should keep on doing this, it's an incredible idea. My book is called Murder on a Monday, and it's about a girl whose best friend gets murdered. Sypnosis credit to Lumi, I believe, who can chug out the most incredible sypnosises in the world, although it's a bit adapted because #NaNoShutDown.

Mondays Are The Worst. And when Dina finds her best friend, Bit's body, this becomes her curse. A day later, she's trying to stay sane and find the killer at the same time, and it's tearing her apart.

I have about a page and a half so far. Would it be a good idea for us to share our novelettes on here chapter by chapter, so we can see what everyone else is doing with it?

At some point in your story one of your chracaters stumbles across (and threw, I suppose) a portal. At the end we all write together a scene with these characters meeting in the place wherever the portal takes them. I was thinking that maybe the portals could look different ecxept for one distinctive detail?

I'd prefer to start posting my chapters later because I haven't edited them yet, so, ya' know, they need quite a bit of work. Also, they sound nothing like newspaper articles and I am not sure I want them to be anymore, but that is supposed to be a pretty big part . . . maybe each could start with a clip of a newspaper article then change into story format?

Whoah Saffron says "wtmch," I think she means "what much?"

I have the rough outline planned out and a few pages so far. The portal thingy sounds really cool, I'd totally do that :)

What I've got written so far:

Ilia Synase, Royal Lady of the kingdom of Kitesse, sank back into her chair. “What?” she asked her servant breathlessly. “M-my lady,” the servant bowed, his face showing only the smallest hint of emotion, “I said, your brother, the king, is dead.” Ilia had never been the kind of woman to faint dramatically, but she almost felt like doing so now. She planted her cold, clammy hand on her forehead and sighed deeply, in sadness, but also with a hint of exasperation. “My brother’s always been weak,” she muttered, “and he’s dragged the kingdom down with him. And now he’s dead? A bad king is better than no king.” “There’s more news, milady,” the servant continued, bowing again. “Yes, what is it,” Ilia sighed again. “He has a son, you know. Prince Aethan.” “Yes, and how old is he again?” Ilia asked, sitting up straight and realizing how important that question was to the fate of Kitesse. “He’s three years old, milady,” the servant said respectfully. Ilia gasped and shook her head slowly. “That won’t do,” she observed. “He’s too young to rule. And he doesn’t have any male relatives qualified to be king.” The servant nodded. “The old Kitesse Book of Law is being read right now,” he told Ilia. “The scribes will find a solution, milady, everyone’s sure.” “Everyone being sure isn’t enough,” Ilia sighed. “Take your leave. I wish to be alone.” The servant nodded and exited quickly, but not before bowing one last time.
