Tag Game!

Tag Game!

Has anyone heard of a tag game? It's when someone starts a story and then tags someone else to continue the story. It's really fun! Also, please note that we don't start a new story every time a person gets tagged.

Can you please sign up, too? It will help so we can get people in the tag game. I'll write everyone down in the order they sign up in. No personal information is required except your name on Chatterbox.

Here are the rules:

#1. If you go by two or more names on Chatterbox, please pick one so that we don't have one person having double turns or more.

#2. If you sign up, please make sure that you participate.

#3. No negative comments are allowed, but I'm pretty sure the admins will take care of that. :)

#4. When you tag someone, make sure that you are not tagging the same person over and over unfairly.

Feel free to comment on people's work, and you can join whenever you want! :)

Have fun!

Akhalia writhed beneath the mass of vines, trying to find a fragile point in the stems or an escape–anything.

But wherever a gap was, there were more vines beyond, and still more vines.

The door swung open, hitting a delicate vase with a bang and sending it crashing to the ground. The vines shrank away as tall, forbidding figure entered.

The Forest Witch.

“Give me the crown,” commanded the witch.

“No!”

“No?”

Akahlia regretted her answer. She could feel the vines slowly twisting around her neck like a deadly, leafy scarf. One wrong word from herself, one command from the Forest Witch and the vines wouldn’t hesitate to obey.

“I meant to say that the kingdom doesn’t belong to me,” she said slowly, painfully (she was sure some of the vines were leaving red marks on her skin). “It belongs to Gold of the Ordinary Brotherhood.”

The Forest Witch stared blankly back. “Ordinary Brotherhood?”

“Oh, of course,” Akhalia laughed (as much as she could laugh in her current state). “We’re cousins. Did you forget? And Gold is the leader of the Ordinary and has dispatched several witches before.”

Akhalia, what are you doing? She asked herself inwardly. You are in no way related to that accursed Ordinary and besides, the witch can sense you made up everything.

In the silence that followed, she hoped that the witch had no knowledge of the royal family or of Gold.

“Ah,” said the Forest Witch, nodding. “Then you are a commoner.”

She’d believed Akhalia.

“And if that is true,” the witch said, ”then you no longer have the protection that a queen has.” She waved her stick absentmindedly.

The vines tightened.

“What are you–” Akhalia began, her eyes wild in horror. No, her plan had not worked. If it had worked, the witch would have released her…but no, her revenge ran far too deep.

“And there is no one to save you.”

Tighter.

“And so no one will mind in the slightest if the previous queen of Delfer is dead.”

Tighter.

The world was slipping away. The Forest Witch would kill her once she was helpless, she knew that.

She had to stay…a…w…a..k…

***

No, Akhalia isn’t dead. She’s just (also) unconscious. I think we’re definitely at the climax at this point (is it too soon? I don’t know…) . In that case, we should try and add a little character development/character arc and something each character has learned over the course of time. I feel like Crieff has learned not to value power and riches over other people and become more sure of himself (maybe), but I’m not sure what Akhalia, Ardie, and Xavier have learned. Captcha says <botag> No, I'm going to tag @Nyxie.

Creiff and Xavier, both out of breath and hearts pounding, made it to the castle where Ardie and Akhalia were. They rushed into the room, and skidded to a stop. Where were they?

"This was the room we left Ardie in, right?" Crieff asked.

"Yeah, I'm sure it was, and Akhalia should be here as well."

Suddenly, a crinkling sound reached both their ears and they both froze. The sound of vines being moved was unmistakable, but when did vines grow here? And who is moving them? The two men turned around slowly, and gasped. A woman with a load of vines at her feet was behind them, and the vines were under her control.

"So glad you could make it, boys." The woman said, an evil glint in her eyes. "But the party's over."

She pointed at them and vines shot out towards their feet. Xavier sliced at them with his sword, but to no avail. Crieff couldn't move. His fear gripped him with a strangling hand. Xavier grunted and yelled. Crieff felt the vines creeping up his body slowly. They knew this would be an easy target. Suddenly, Xavier's shouts rang clearer and Crieff listened.

"Fight them!" he screamed, as the vines closed over his arms.

Crieff grabbed his dagger and began to slice the vines, quickly but not quick enough. The vines as well began to cover his body too. The woman cackled and brought out Ardie and Akhalia on a platform on top of more of the frightning weeds. Ardie. Crieff took a deep breath as the vines finally covered his face.

The witch smiled a smug smile and turned to the girls. Suddenly, a snapping noise filled the room and the color drained from the witch's face.

I don't really know where I'm even going with this, but it sounds pretty good, right?

Ooh, a cliffhanger! Actually this was really similar to what I was predicting would happen next and yes, it sounds good. I really like the action here.

(This is Lyric if you can't tell, trying to revive this thread again)

I'm just letting you guys know that I see this, and I'm writing the next part! I was struggling with what was going to happen next, but I think I've got it figured out. I'll post the next part today or tomorrow!

The previous comment before this was actually me, not Rora pretending to be me, and this comment mentioning "lyric's evil sister" (she's not evil, btw) is by Rora. Just to clear up any confusion.

The forest witch paled at the sound of branches snapping. The palace hallways were barricaded by a web of woven vines and branches. And someone was breaking through them.

“Stay right there,” the forest witch snapped, glaring at her victims, even though they didn’t have much choice. She turned around and strode down the hallway, hands raised, preparing to cast some hex.

The hallway was dark, once-ornate wallpaper torn beneath thick vines, floorboards reduced to splinters. There was a light coming from the end of the hallway. The forest witch walked towards it.

“Whoever’s there, stop at once,” she commanded, but she was met with no response. The snapping noise continued. “Come no further,” she snarled. “I am the most powerful witch in these lands, and I will not hesitate to use my powers against you.”

Again, she was met with only the snapping of her beautiful, beautiful branches.

She yelled something incoherent and stomped her foot on the ground. The ground split beneath her feet, a fissure racing towards the light, growing in size as it went. She watched with satisfaction as whoever was holding the light fell into the chasm below. The lantern shattered against the ground and flames bloomed around it, quickly spreading to the walls and wooden floorboards.

She took a step backwards, preparing to cast an incantation to put the fire out, but she found herself in someone’s strong grip. She struggled to break free, but then there was flash of silver as something cold pressed against her throat.

“I see you fell for me trap,” said Gold coolly. “You’re not the only one with magic.”

“You’re in of those awful Ordinaries, aren’t you?” said the forest witch through grit teeth. Her mind raced as she tried to think of a way out of this. “Your magic isn’t real. It’s stolen. It’ll never work the way you want it to.”

“No?” said Gold. “My fire is coming closer and closer. It’s going to devour you and your new palace, unless you tell me where you’re keeping Akhalia.”

I kind of got stuck and wasn't sure where to go with this. Sorry for the wait!

"Keeping Akhalia?" she cackled, much like the witch she was. "What makes you think I am?"

Gold laughed, a harsh sound. "I don't really care if I do happen to burn you on accident, even if you aren't keeping her. I've always had a strong dislike for witches."

The forest witch looked half-disgusted, half-startled. "Either way, I still have the means to defeat you. Magic. Real magic."

"Are you saying that I don't have real magic?" Gold smiled, a small, cold smile that contained no joy nor happiness in it. Only the slightest gleam of laughter. "Wouldn't you like me to test that?" The flame came closer.

"Wouldn't you like me to test my own?" the witch retorted. She somehow raised one hand, with much difficulty, and casted vines towards Gold.

In retaliation, Gold started causing the fire to race towards her more quickly, and more fiercely. Golden sparks began to leap.

Suddenly, Crieff felt as if he could breathe again. The vines had loosened when the witch had to create more vines in order to fight Gold. It seemed that she had a limit of the amount of vines that could be produced.

He felt around for his dagger, thankful that he had brought it with him. It had been useful to him many times. Quickly, he began to slice at the vines once more, which surprisingly, came apart with ease this time. Soon, he could see light again, with Xavier helping him out.

Unfortunately, the two of them--being Gold and the forest witch--noticed them just as they were about to escape.

Hi,

Sorry for not replying very quickly but I'm not going to be able to write the next part tomorrow, which is the deadline. You can go ahead and skip me, as I'm extraordinarily busy with schoolwork.

Creiff sucked in a breath as Gold and the witch turned their heads and stared at him and Xavier.

"Psst." He whispered. "The bad guys are staring at us."

Xaviers head whipped around and then sprang into action. The witch threw several vines towards him and Gold jumped free of the remaining vines on him. Creiff quickened his pace on cutting himself free. Xavier began slicing at the vines with his sword, again, and in the process cut Gold across the stomach. They groaned and fell to the ground. Creiff felt his stomach flip as he watched Gold curl up in a painful heap. He felt his heart speed up and his knuckles tightened around his dagger. In two quick and deep swipes, he cut through the vines and leapt towards Xavier's side.

"So," he grunted, destroing a vine headed for him, "What's the plan?"

"Off the top of my head, it mostly involves not dying." Xavier replied.

"Ooh," Crieff smiled weakly, "That's a good plan."

The two men fought the oncoming vines and made their way slowly towards the girls in the middle. Ardie fluttered her eyes open for a moment, long enough to see Crieff fighting the weeds with much gusto. Her mouth turned into a smile and she fell unconscious again. In the midst of the fight, Crieff saw that smile, and his heart burst to think Ardie was still alive.

The witch became frightened suddenly, as she saw the tons of vines piled around the two men. She held them off for as long as possible until, finally, she had only two dozen or so vines left. If she could have fought them off any longer, she did not appear to want to, for as soon as the men turned towards her, she stepped slowly backwards, her vines slowly retreating with her.

"Well boys," she said breathlessly, "It's been fun, but I think I should go. But let me warn you: I will be back."

In a final movement she was gone and Xavier and Crieff, bloody and bruised, looked at each other and burst into laughter, for no apparent reason. Gold, nearly dead, looked up at them and, for a moment, smiled their last, true smile. The men, breathless from laughing so hard, wiped their eyes and turned to the girls and carefully carried the two to the firepit. They built a quickset fire and waited for them to wake up.
