Kyngdom Survival Guide

The dragon was

Chatterbox: KYNGDOM™ RP Board

The dragon was

The dragon was perched atop a cliff, watching the very last ray of sunlight wink away below the earth. A vibrant dome of indigo disintigrated into blackness as the land was plunged into dark and the stars pushed their way through the sky. A cold wind brushed across the forest canopy below, sending flurries of snow twinkling over a fading white mist. Whisps of breath curled from the dragon's nostrils and drifted towards the sky, where they disappeared in the inky nothingness.

At last, the night had awoken.

The dragon tucked her legs beneath her and let her wings droop down onto the rocks beside her. She turned for a moment and focused her gaze upon the clearing in the distance, where she had momentarily left Whist and Enyo and the Powers and the wintry beast.

Ecio had returned earlier with news from the flea market, and before, Enyo had borne details of the same event. Jaaws knew the market had ended by now, but if a drum had been sighted there, it was most certainly worth inspecting.

Jaaws closed her eyes and retreated from her scales, drawing away from the forest, from the snow, from the cold, from reality. Her consciousness drifted into darkness, where there were little windows here and there, bits of influence and evil she had left in certain beings throughout Kyngdom. Some of them were nothing but scabs, remnants of hypnosis that were blocked off from another end: the consciousnesses of Icy, Little Crow, and Eliyana Fur. Others were small holes, tiny openings that had been clumsily sealed and could be reopened with little effort: the mind of Hazel Coryli. The rest of the windows pulsed with energy--connections that were thriving. One led to Catastrophe.

Jaaws blinked and suddenly she was in a room by a fire with a book in her hands, youthful hands which clutched feverishly at yellowed parchment as shadows stood guard by the doors, shadows that averted their heads from the letters on the pages, pages which held whispers of power...

Smoke rose and filled the ceiling of the vast chamber, the chamber which Jaaws suddenly recognized, the place she had not seen in centuries. Catastrophe was within his old castle.

Jaaws, now a shadow herself, crept out of Catastrophe's consciousness and, as she had done in the caves at FAFA, became a smoky red-eyed figure that hovered near the fire.

"Catastrophe."

The boy king looked up from the tome with a jolt and his piercing eyes fell upon Jaaws's form. He was prepared to fight; the Sword of Ravenmore leaned against his chair, but when he saw Jaaws his hand moved away from his weapon.

"Jaaws. It's been a while."

"Yes. I thought you would still be hard at work trying to locate the Shield, so I didn't want to bother you."

"I am," Catastrophe replied, setting the enormous book down on a table. Jaaws sent a tiny breeze whirling towards it, but Catastrophe placed a finger upon its open surface before Jaaws could turn his page.

"Are you having any progress?" Jaaws wanted to know. The fire crackled behind her subtle leer.

"Yes." But Catastrophe offered nothing more.

"Have you forgotten about the Powers?"

"Last time we spoke you were planning to use our new Brazen Goo on the other active Powers. I left them up to you. I have not forgotten them. It seemed to me that you did."

"Caelani, Ecio, and Ayearth are now under my influence." Jaaws was careful not to mention Whist or Enyo's hand in any of this. "I am now on the trail of Sylvia's drum. There have been rumors of her drum at the flea market, which recently ended. Are there any of your spies in that area who have brought you information?"

Jaaws knew Catastrophe had eyes everywhere. If the drum had really been at an event as important as the flea market, it was likely Catastrophe had already laid hands on it.

Catastrophe sighed. "Yes, I've been informed of the flea market. I chose not to engage there, but last I heard the drum was stolen from it. Other than that I have heard nothing, but I'll send a notice to Jokull. Perhaps my soldiers there will know something."

Jaaws weighed her options. Jokull was on the way to Mer anyway. "I'll go to them myself. If they don't know anything then I'll proceed to Mer. I'll tell you what I find."

Catastrophe nodded and Jaaws retreated back to her own body.

She stretched and noticed that the moon had risen over the snow-capped forest. It cast a silvery light upon the woods, and when Jaaws turned to look back down at the clearing, she noticed it was covered in a ghostly mist.

Jaaws alighted and sailed down to where the others were waiting, prepared to present them with the change of plan.

-------

Night, I was thinking that Jaaws probably knows about Demise because Jaaws worked so closely with Catastrophe during his reign. But I didn't put anything about her in this because I don't know her backstory well enough.

I was thinking--and this is just me throwing my thoughts into a thread, so I'm not trying to force anything--that all the SAPs/Powers could stop at Jokull and see the drum. If Catastrophe hears about how realistic it is from Jaaws, then he might come back to Jokull and decide to orchestrate the construction of an exact replica of it so as to create a scheme in which he [covertly] makes it known and surrounds it in circumstances that make it seem real--potentially with the help of Jaaws, who could get Whist to create a mist creature that resembles Sylvia/her powers. (So basically, the next big event, like a ball/flea market/maybe a sports event :P) It would serve as a trap to get the Resistance or FAFA or somebody out in the open. The chaos would be a good time for some big plot advancement, like an attack by Catastrophe's army on an important place or something similar. And during that, Jaaws could find Sylvia and 'adopt' her foal (which was a plot idea we talked about a while ago), and Sylvia could free the Powers from the Brazen Goo and they could start working against Catastrophe/Jaaws again.

I have a quick question:

Can I play as Cairan? I understand if you guys don’t want me to play him, or if he is too young to be rped as. Just a curious question.

Fine with me. He's supposed to convert to the SAPs side, but only once Jaaws gets her claws on him.

Oh yeah, that'd be great!

I am imagining there is not very much information about the foal... which leaves me a lot of gray area to fill in. It is fine for me though. Actually more fun!

~Cairan~

I strolled through the forest, my mom by my side. For many months, I was living a good life. I grew up in this beautiful forest, where I can frolic and run! Well, I can only frolic and run in ‘safe’ places, but it is still fun. I have the best mom too. She is so kind and caring. Sometimes, she goes and sees something not safe, and then we have to move to a new place in the forest.  She tells me tales about dangerous creatures who might go in these woods. But I am sure I can handle them if we ever run into them. I want to go explore the world one day and be a hero! That’s my plan.

But right now, we were just foraging for food. I was talking with Mommy about super important things. “Your horn looks so cool! Maybe when I get bigger, I will get one too!” I jabbed the air with my imaginary horn. Mommy smiled and said, “Maybe.... Hey, I think there are some apple trees up ahead.” She pranced gracefully ahead of me, which I accepted as a race. I quickly tried to catch up to her.

She slowed down at a clearing, and I gratefully stopped to catch my breath. “Almost....there?” I asked, exhausted. “Yes. The apple trees are right over-“ Mommy stopped in the middle of her sentence. She pricked up her ears and looked around. I didn’t know what was happening, but somehow, I was feeling scared of what was going to happen next.

Ok, so this post is mainly about introducing Cairan and stuff like that. And I stopped a few seconds after the end of Ayearths post about seeing the foal. Anyway, if it is alright, I kind of made it so Cairan knows nothing about the fact that Sylvia is a Power. There is no good reason for him to know. But we can make it so he DOES know if you guys would rather have it that way. Also, who is playing Sylvia right now? I don’t really want her, I was just curious. Anyway, just wanted to say these things just so you guys know.

I don't think anyone is playing as Sylvia. And I like the idea of Caolan not knowing his mother is a Power, it will make it more interesting when Jaaws swoops in to steal him.

I'm going to write as Jaaws for the first time. Please correct me if I messed up her personality or anything.

Jaaws~~~

Jaaws looked into the distance. They were close to Jokull, close enough that she was able to distinguish its shape against the snowy skies.

Jaaws let the wind carry her for a few moments as she decided to check on the Powers under her control.

Through Ecio's eyes she saw that he was in a wooded area.  Judging by how ancient the trees were, she could guess he was at the entrance to the Secret Forest, where he was supposed to meet up with Ayearth. Whist had taken the wolf and the human with her. Whist was supposed to be coming to meet them at Jokull, bypassing the Secrets Forest.

She didn't check in on Caelani. He was flying just behind her.

Jaaws slipped into the mind of Ayearth. Through his eyes, she saw  the shapes of horses, one young and one old, briefly. And that feeling...

"Demise," She growled. "I believe we've found Sylvia."

Demise~

My eyes flash with a cold, cold light. Finally.

"Shall we go kill her?" I smile, baring my icicle-like teeth. Jaaws contemplates for a second.

"She will release Ecio from my hold soon. Once she does, if we were to go to her, we would certainly have to contend with them both." I can hear that she resents the obvious conclusion. We can't get Sylvia now... But soon.

Ecio~~

Ecio moved through the Secret Forest, searching for Ayearth. He couldn't find him, which was odd--he'd arrived at their decided meeting spot.

As the minutes grew into hours, Ecio started to become worried. If he didn't find Ayearth soon, he'd meet Jaaws, Demise and Caelani late. And they wouldn't appreciate that.

He moved slowly. Out of the corner of his eye, something moved. But he could tell that by the sound of hooves, there was no way it could be Ayearth.

Ecio pushed through the bushes--and there. Jaaws' hold on him faltered in the presence of the being. It was Sylvia.

But she wasn't alone. There was a young horse beside her, with a beautiful ebony coat. Sylvia turned and stared.

"Ecio?!?" Her eyes locked with his. There was a flash of alarm in hers when she realized Ecio was being controlled by Jaaws.

Of course! You play Aya, Caelani and Sylvia, right?

@Sybill, yep, I do! Do we know where Aya is right now?

Sylvia~

"Ecio?!" I cry. His eyes are glazed, elsewhere, and not his own. Jaaws. My insides shiver, and I can't help but start with alarm. I step in front of Cairan as Ayearth emerges beside Ecio.

"A-ayearth..."

My call is one of longing; I feel joy at seeing my brothers again, but I know they aren't themselves; so through happiness, I despair. And the four of us stand there, just for a moment; Cairan behind me, poking around to see what's going on; me, staring at Ecio and Ayearth; and the latter, staring back. Not completely themselves. Jaaws using them for herself. I turn to Cairan.

"Cairan, go to the back of the clearing," I whisper. He gives me a fleeting look before trotting back. I face my brothers again, and pause for a split seond.

"Ecio, come here," I say gently.

~Let me know if there's something I need to fix about this!

I believe Aya is searching for the Power of Howl or something?? I don't know, I don't think there's a definite mark on her location.

Ecio~~

"Ecio, come here," She said gently .

My mind was being torn. Jaaws ' hold on me was loosening, and I was finally able to struggle for control.

I stepped forwards. Sylvia's horn began to glow. She leaned forwards and pressed it lightly against my forehead.

My vision turns gold. For a few moments I feel as if I am floating.

My vision returns, and with it, a crushing realization of what Jaaws has forced me to do. My eyes widen.

"Sylvia, my sister..." I begin. "Thank you, so much."

She nods. She then proceeds to do the same with Ayearth.

"Her hold on you had been broken."

Sylvia~

"Her hold on you has been broken," I say, nodding sagely at my brothers. I feel a great sense of joy spreading through me- I have two of my brothers back! Half of the Powers are reunited, unaffected my Jaaws's rule!

"Jaaws still has Caelani and Whist," Ecio says, "And Demise, a... I'm not exactly sure what she is- teamed up with them."

I cock my head. "Demise? What-"

"She's... very mysterious about what's happened to her," Ayearth says uncomfortably. I pause.

"We shouldn't stay here," I decide finally, "I'd rather Jaaws not have you under her control again..."

I look back at Cairan, hiding slightly behind a bush. I nod at him, trying to appear unconcerned. He rises and follows me, staying close by my side.

~~~~~Er, so I'm still slightly confused about Demise... what exactly is she?
I believe Demise was a weapon devised by Catastrophe in ancient times to help kill the Powers, and he gave it fake memories and stuff? But I think it never got to be used? I don't really know either.
Whist is Sylvia's sideaffect, by the way. The Sideaffects are working together and I believe they have a base in the Labyrinth Lands.
Ecio~~
A foal comes out and follows Sylvia.
"Who's that?" Ayearth asks.
Sylvia turns around. "This is Ciaran...my son."
Ayearth winces and closes his eyes.
"Your what?"
"Ecio..." Ayearth mutters.
"Sylvia --what! How! You do realize he's technically a--a Sideaffect! You know, what Jaaws is!"
" Ecio, Ciaran isn't like Jaaws--"
"But he is! He's just like her!"
" Ecio, stop! " Ayearth shouts. "You're scaring the foal. And anyways...not all sideaffects are necessarily bad, just--dark. Xiayou wasnt. .."
He stares off into the distance, looking sad.
"I know. I'm sorry, it's just... After being hypnotized by Jaaws, I just... can't trust anyone anymore. Especially not...a sideaffected power."
Sylvia looks at me. "He might not be a sideaffected power, as long as he remains good. But anyways , we need to leave."
" Where can we go? " Ayearth asks.
"I know it sounds crazy, but what about the Nocturnal? Their temple is right here, in the Secret Forest." I suggest.
"Do they even exist anymore?" Ayearth says , wrinkling his snout.
"I guess we'll have to find out." Sylvia looks upwards.
~~~

If you don't want them to, that's fine. I just thought it would be a good idea, because then they could reunite with Lunee for the Power of Howl. If we decide to do so, we should probably move to the Nocturnal thread under the Groups section.
