Kyngdom Survival Guide

Pre-Winter Masquerade

Chatterbox: KYNGDOM™ RP Board

Pre-Winter Masquerade

Pre-Winter Masquerade

In the midst of this horrible tragedy, we feel it is important to still take time to admire the little things. We see no reason that we shan't hold our Pre-Winter celebrations as normal. Kyngdom has been split in so many sides, and so many are so untrusting of each other these days.

That is why we have decided to make our Pre-Winter celebration a masquerade. Now, nobody will know each other's identities until the clock strikes midnight. There will be no prejudices, no mistrust--just happiness and new memories.

We are specifically extending our invitation to the members of the various factions--though, of course, members of the general public are just as welcome. We would like all the sides of this civil war to come together and celebrate a moment of peace. It may also help to sway us Nobyls in the direction of a specific group--but of course, the main purpose of the Masquerade is to celebrate.

We sincerely hope you attend, so that we may begin the cold-weather season properly. The Masquerade will be located in the pur Keteque manor, located in the southwestern portion of Northeastern Kyngdom, about twenty or so miles to the west of Qar Evi. It will be held on December First, though, of course, we will gladly offer lodging to any guests who arrive early.

Our only requirements are that you wear a winter-theme masquerade outfit, and bring no weapons or violent intentions. We thank you in advance.

~~House of Keteque

Please do make sure to tell us if you are attending, so that we might get the correct amount of supplies and prepare large enough of a space.

If Rose hadn't been doing the walking, every Nobyl would have seen something was wrong. Jaaws didn't know how to carry herself like a rich human being, nor was she trained on all the vital nuances of proper speech. Rose, then, was far more vital to Jaaws than Jaaws wanted her to know.

Go to the Lady who just finished talking with a general of Catastrophe's army. Pur Abadore. She is not sympathetic to the Resistance's cause, but not yet ready to give up her power.

Rose obeyed, catching Lady pur Abadore's eye with nothing but her beautiful dress. They began a conversation.

"My, your dress is lovely!" said the older Nobyl.

"As is yours, Lady pur Abadore."

"Who might you be? I think those gorgeous eyes of yours hold a resemblance to someone I know."

"I am Karune pur Lamour," said Rose with a curtsey.

"Oh, pur Lamour! I should have known. I am deeply sorry for the loss of your sister. Why, it occurred at a ball similar to this, if I remember correctly."

Rose grew very angry over the Nobyl's words. Jaaws could have laughed out loud.

Is she sorry in the slightest? Does she understand? Don't hold back, dArLiNg! We'll show her the truth!

Astrid~

My fur feels all stiff; it's been painted silver so I can look like an arctic fox, but I feel like a freaking piece of cardboard. West has already managed to work most of his paint out of his fur. It was either bugging him too much or he's just that stupid. I really think the answer is both A and B.

Me, West and Taurus are hanging out away from everyone else, as per our usual.

"Remind me why we joined the Resistance," West asks, though he doesn't say it like a question, and he definitely cursed a little bit.

"Mostly so we could feel like we aren't total trash people/foxes," I say, "But also like 5% because it was the right thing to do."

Taurus snorts. Probably not because they thinks it's funny, but because it's true. They're not in a great mood right now, because they had to put a contact in their left eye to make them both blue.

We're approached by a deer, who's being followed by another deer. The first is bouncy and looks eager to see us, which is a first. "Hi there!" she says. "I'm Finni. Who are you all?"

West barely covers a laugh, I raise my eyebrows, and Taurus is probably trying very hard not to roll their eyes. This kid is pretty amusing. "Well, I'm Astrid, he's West, and that's Taurus," I say. As naive as this kid is, I don't really want to burst her bubble.

"Awesome!" She says, a little too loud. "This is Beacon and we're with the F.A-"

The other deer, Beacon, cuts her off. "We're from a small village near the Fallen Heights." He plasters on a very unconvincing smile.

Well, this conversation just got even better. These guys are pretty amusing to think we're that stupid. Taurus is evidently thinking the same kind of thing, because they reply, "Well then, we'll just pretend we don't know you're in the FAFA and continue the conversation."

Beacon looks nervous, and Finni looks like she doesn't know if she should be relieved or hurt. Or both.

I'm interested to see where this will go.

~~(XD I love those guys so much, I forgot how much fun they are)

Beacon~

I shift around uncomfortably. I don't know who these people are, but now they know who we are. I wish Finni would be a little more private...

"Okay, well," Finni says, trying to get the conversation back on track, "H-how are you guys?"

The fox with little greyish patches showing through his silver coat snorts. The other fox looks like she's trying very hard not to react. The human, Taurus, is the only one to say anything. "Me? Well, I'm just peachy," they say.

"Um," is all Finni has to say. I look at the shiny ballroom floor. This is so embarassing!

"Shut up, Taurus," the fox named Astrid says. "Sorry. We're very bad at being normal."

"Well, so are we!" Finni replies cheerily.

"I'm normal!" I interject.

"You go on thinking that," she says, rolling her eyes at me. Astrid smiles. I don't.

I'd be very glad if something were to interrupt this conversation...

~~ XXD this is so much fun

Kamau Adeyemi~~

"Is everything alright?" Kamau moved forwards to intercept a small argument between a woman enclad in jewels and another Nobyl woman. The jewel-woman's pet wolf growled viciously as Kamau approached.

"Of course. Everything is fine," The woman said. The other Nobyl woman looked terrified, and quickly scurried away. Kamau watched her go, giving the remaining woman a look that told her he didn't trust her.

"What...was going on?"

The woman's gaze turned harsh, and her eyes seemed to bore into Kamau. "She said she was sorry, but I knew she wasn't."

"Sorry about what?"

The woman tilted her head. "You are a Resistance rep, are you not? Named Kamau Adeyemi?"

"How did you..." He trailed off and the woman continued, her wolf still growling and pacing.

"You should know. It was your organization's fault she died."

"I...what? I'm sure you're misunder--"

"Misunderstanding what?" Her voice dripped with venom. "It's the Resistance's fault she's dead. They sent her to that Ball. It's as clear as day."

"Just because they--I--you're crazy," Kamau stumbled over his words.

"Me? Crazy?" She laughed. "I'm so much more than crazy. And I want revenge." He didn't notice she'd drawn a knife until it was in his side. He gasped in pain and fell on his knees, as she'd stabbed the spot where he already had a previous injury.

Nobody noticed what was going on. They were in one of the side areas of the grand ballroom. He noticed that the wolf had already moved curtains to conceal him.

"This," She said, "Is for what you did to my sister." She pulled out the knife and hit his head with the blunt end, and everything suddenly went dark.

Top!!

Speirys~

I was going to talk to one of the other Resistance reps, Kamau, but he seems to have vanished. I'd like to search for him just in case he's in trouble- the track record for balls like this isn't very good- but that would be suspicious. The conventions of society can be so inconvenient sometimes.

Really, I'd probably be fine not to talk with anybody, but if I just stood around alone I'd just draw attention to myself. If a Nobyl approached me, I probably wouldn't be able to hold my tongue any longer, and they'd know exactly what I think about their frivolous balls. So, I instead decide to talk to the other Resistance reps- Astrid, Taurus and West I think they are. I spot them talking to two deer, who I assume are with the FaFA.

I walk over to them with a smile. "Hello," I say, "Speirys Prince, a pleasure to meet you. Who might you all be?"

"Hi there, I'm Infinity, but you can call me Finni," the closest deer chimes in. "This is my brother Beacon. And they're Astrid, West, and Taurus." So I was right about their names.

"Good to meet you, Speirys," the fox named Astrid says. "I feel like I've seen you around."

"I feel the same way," I say. "Er, I was actually going to ask you if you've seen someone named Kamau Adeyemi [I hope I spelled that right] around. I know he's here, but I haven't seen him in a while."

"No, I haven't seen him," Taurus replies. "But quite honestly I haven't seen muhc of anyone."

I nod, not quite sure how to respond to that. We then proceed to stand around silently.

It's not particulaurly enjoyable.

Gamgi Kholodno~~

After a few more overly-polite conversations, I realize I seriously need a break from Nobyls. My eyes scan the room, looking for a group that's not Nobylity but also not an enemy of Sanukaville. I spot a group who look like they're mostly Resistance, with a few FaFA members as well. FaFA and Sanukaville aren't exactly friends, but we're not enemies, so hopefully they don't mind my presence.

I approach the group, who are mostly just standing silently, looking uncomfortable amongst all the wealth and elites. They all turn towards me when I approach, most of them also having to look upwards. "Sorry for interupting," I begin. "But the Nobyls were giving me a headache. The name's Gamgi Kholodno, I'm the Sanukan representative."

The group seems to relax when they learn I'm not one of Catastrophe's representatives. They all introduce themselves as well. I can't hide the surprise on my face when I see that one of them is a Homo Aquarius--they've managed to hide their mutations fairly well, but hanging out with Tsuki all the time has taught me how to identify them on an expert level. There's also an extremely energetic deer, a FaFA representative named Finni. She seems fascinated that I'm from Sanukaville. Sure, I get that we don't really interact with the rest of Kyngdom very often, but we aren't THAT exciting. I mean, our primary personality trait is to be tall.

The Homo Aquarius, Speirys Prince, looks a little annoyed. "Yes, yes, I know, I'm a mutant and--"

I cut him off. "Don't worry, I'm not a prejudiced brat. It's just that one of my close friends--well, combat partner, really--is also a Homo Aquarius. Their name is..." I hesitate, realizing Tsuki is undercover. I also realize it probably doesn't matter, seeing as these are Resistance member's, not some of Catastrophe's brutes. "Their name is Tsuki Natsu. Have you met them?"

Speirys pauses for a moment, thinking. "I think I know her, from the labs. Say, have you seen someone by the name of Kamau Adeyemi? Male, a little under average height, dark skin and hair, I think they were wearing an outfit with feathers?"

I nod. "Yeah, they went in one of the side areas, with that one Nobyl woman who has a pet wolf. The curtain is concealing the area they were at, I think. Why? They aren't missing, are they?"

"Actually," a grey fox says, "They are, which is why we were--"

"West!" The other fox snaps, annoyed. "Don't just--tell people information like that!"

"If they're missing," I say, "We should look for them. I don't exactly trust the people who attend these kind of things. Especially not when everyone is wearing a full face mask that makes them essentially impossible to locate."

"Agreed," Another Resistance rep, a human named Taurus, says. I like them alot, they remind me of my myself--mixed with a little bit of Victor's calmness, and Rubiana's extreme dislike of people.

After a short bit of hypnosis~

Hide the blood and bind the wound, said Jaaws to Karune. It is not fatal; he does not need treatment.

Within Kamau's mind, Jaaws hissed, on top of the commands she had already given him, "You have no injury and feel no pain. Now I will be in the back of your mind, and you will never see me, hear me, or recognize me, even if I speak or appear to you. You will only obey. Let your mind lock away all memories from the minute you first spoke to Lady Karune."

Karune finished, and Kamau's stab wound was hidden and no longer bleeding.

"You abhor light magic, Kamau. Never let it touch you."

Karune helped Kamau to his feet.

Jaaws then gave Kamau the command that would start his undercover mission: "Begin."

No worries, Sybill, you did great with them- I especially liked how Gamgi described Taurus XD

West~

"If they're missing," Gamgi says, "We should look for them. I don't exactly trust the people who attend these kind of things. Especially not when everyone is wearing a full face mask that makes them essentially impossible to locate."

Taurus agrees with her. She must think we actually know what we're doing, to suggest we should do something that might affect another person. I'll probably burst out laughing and draw the stares of every Nobyl in a five-mile radius. I do not know why I'm allowed to be part of the Resistance. I am COMPLEYELY INCOMPITENT.

Heck. I'm surprised I know the word "incompitent". (I probably can't spell it right though.)

But anyways.

Me, Astrid, Taurus, Blue Boi, Excited Deer and Nervous Deer follow Sanukan Lady over to where I assume Random Missing Boi was last seen. (I would ask how someone can go missing inside a ballroom if it didn't sound exactly like something I'd manage to do.) Sanukan Lady smiles politely at the Nobyls who look our way, but I can tell the muscles in her face might explode from it.

(Sanukan Lady. Cause of death: being too polite. RIP.)

Didn't I say I would burst out laughing before we ever got there? Yeah. I snort, really loudly. Astrid stomps of my paw.

"Ow," I say.

"Shut up," she hisses as Taurus shoots me death rays from their mismatched eyeballs. Sanukan Lady (I swear I knew her name for a full six seconds) takes a deep breath and tries to keep it together. I can only imagine how Nervous Deer is feeling.

Luckily enough we find Random Missing Boi, standing just next to the curtain. He looks to me like a pretty normal Random Missing Boi (as those go), except for the look in his eyes. I don't know what it is, but looking at his eyes, I sort of feel... weird? And not like, "Hai-i'm-west-and-i'm-a-moron", everyday weird... weird.

Hmm.

"Kamau!" Blue Boi exclaims. "We didn't know where you'd gone." Blue Boi looks at Kamau the Random Missing Boi. "Are you... alright?"

"Oh, yes, I'm fine," Kamau replies smoothly, looking from Blue Boi to the rest of us.

"Well, good," Sanukan Lady says. "Just wanted to make sure, you know, with what's happened at balls like this before."

~~~~~ It's so refreshing to write with such a weird character.
Taurus~
Speirys nods with Gamgi's words. His eyes flicker back to Kamau, who looks normal, but hasn't explained his absense yet... so I ask him about it.
"Oh," he says, as if he had forgotten about the whole deal, "I was just looking around. The Nobyls can be pretentious sometimes, but they sure know how to decorate. I guess I just got a little lost in it, and I forgot how worrying that could be at these crazy balls."
Looking around, I can see the majority of us think that's a flimsy alibi. Then again, none of us know Kamau before, so I guess we couldn't be sure if getting lost in the oh-so-lovely decorations of obnixious Nobyls would be something he'd do.
"We trust you, Kamau, but I don't trust all these other guys," Sperys says forgivingly. "I say all of us Resistance members stick together for the rest of the evening. Beacon and Finni, it might be good if you stick around too."
"I like that plan," Gamgi agrees. "You guys are best off in a group."
"You mean you won't stay with us too?" Finni asks innocently. I can't tell if she's serious about this childish act or not, but she's nailed the annoying-yet-adorable act either way.
The corners of Gamgi's mouth twitch.  "You know, Finni, I think I might stay after all. You guys are much more interesting than these Nobyls, anyways."
"So now that we're going stay in this weird little pack... what should we do?" Astrid asks.
"Act casual and make sure nobody dies," I deadpan.
"That's not far from the truth, actually," Speirys says. "Small talk amongst ourselves while keeping open eyes."
"What should we talk about?" West asks.
"Definitely not anything you have to suggest," Astrid decides sharply. She rolls her eyes. "So... why did you guys join whatever faction you did?"
Gamgi~~
"So, why did you guys join whatever faction you did?" Astrid asks.
I'm the first to answer. "I was born in Sanukaville. That sort of guarantees you a spot in the Sanukan Army--and besides, I've always supported my people's ideals."
The others begin to answer, but there comes a buzzing from my pocket. I take a step away from the others, pulling out my phone to read the message. It's from Victor.
Attack on Jokull has begun. Expect a message of victory soon.
"Gamgi? Everything okay?" Speirys asks, and I jump.
"Oh---uh, yeah, everything's fine. Just had a message from my superiors," I reply. I'm not really sure how much information I'm allowed to give them--the Resistance may be our allies, but Sanukaville has always liked to keep its secrets. And anyways, I'm sure the battle will be big news soon enough.
The music kicks up an octave, and I watch as Nobyls and soldiers alike waltz together in a complicated pattern across the floor. Our small group on the sidelines falls silent, entranced by the ridiculous beauty.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Kamau says, stadning beside me. I nod.
"Makes me wish the war would just end," Kamau continues. "Then these things wouldn't be a safety risk."
"Ha, yeah," I say. "Still don't think I'd care much for dancing, though."
"And why is that?" Kamau asks. His gaze is oddly intense and piercing. Something about it sends a shiver down my spine, even if he seems to be harmless.
"Oh, I don't know. I guess I prefer Sanukan festivities."
"Such as?" I'm not sure why, but Kamau's prying makes me feel uncomfortable. I act like I don't notice.
"Oh, you know. All Power's Day, the Night of Ancestors, all that fun stuff." As soon as I finish talking, I step closer to the others, suddenly realizing I'd rather not be questioned by Kamau.
Finni~
"We joined because... well. I don't completely know! I guess it just seemed right," I chime in.
"Well... I think it had a little bit to do with Hope," Beacon adds, looking a little sad. "Like we wanted to do it for her."
"Who's Hope?" West asks. Taurus and Astrid look mad at him, but I don't mind.
"Our sister," I explain. "She went missing a long time ago."
"I'm sorry about that," Speirys says.
"Thank you," Beacon mumbles, staring at his hooves. I notice Speirys, though he was sincere when he said he was sorry, keeps glancing at Kamau and Gamgi.
I decide I like Speirys.
Belluma~
I move throughout the room, being polite and making small talk with various Nobyls. Occasionally, I'll look over at Speirys. He's been with a very odd-looking crowd, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the Nobyls were questioning the weird group. I've never understood my brother's disregard for what others may think of him.
I see, on my left, a Nobyl approaching me, followed by a wolf. I put on a practiced smile and turn to face her.
"Hello," she greets shortly once she's reached me. "My name is Lady Karune pur Lamour."
"It's a pleasure to meet you," I say graciously, extending a hand for her to shake. Lady pur Lamour looks a little reluctant to take it, but I pretend not to notice. "Is there something I could do for you, my Lady?"
"There is, actually. I was wondering if you knew who that Nobyl other there is, and if you could introduce me. It's been a while since I've attended one of these balls, and I'm afraid my memory is rather rusty." she nods towards a Nobyl I recognize as Obcaetius pur Derefoni.
I quickly inform her of his name, then we begin to walk towards him. "Lord pur Derefoni, I believe you have met Lady Karune pur Lamour?"
"Yes indeed!" he says enthusiastically. His smile, unlike many I've seen tonight, isn't feigned.
After a bit of conversation, Lady pur Lamour turns to me. "Thank you for coming with me, but there was something I was hoping to discuss with Obcaetius. I wouldn't like to be rude..."
"Not at all," I say. "I'll excuse myself, then, and leave you to talk."
I walk away from the short, somewhat awkward conversation. When I look back, I see Lady pur Lamour walking away with Lord pur Derefoni- to where, I have no idea.
A shiver runs down my back, but I'm clueless as to why.
