Goats and Gardens!

Goats and Gardens!

~~~
Valerie grinned, looking up at her cafe. Her very own cafe! She had dreamed of getting one since the day she had entered fourth grade, and now, there she was, with a cafe!
Gompers, her goat, nugded her.
"Oh right, we've got to set up!" Val exclaimed, scrambling inside.
After a little bit, the small cafe on the coast of Mer was completely decorated, with low wooden tables, cushions for seats, sofas, hanging lights, vines, flowers, and butterfly decorations. Oh, Val was so excited!
~~~

Just a little cafe for roleplaying I guess, nothing major's going to happen here, probably . . . unless someone decides something major's going to happen here, I guess something major will happen here then! :)

Menu

Whatever you like! We make everything, from steak to crepes! And we have a special of the week, each of them coming from a different part of Kyngdom!

Shiloh Mrtyu Karunai, Half-Fae Mercenary of New Windswood~~

He stepped inside the quiet cafe, examining the hanging lights and butterfly decor that hung from the ceiling. It had a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, thanks partially to the warm lighting and beautiful flowers, and partially to the kind expression on the owner's face.

Shiloh focused on her. She was dressed in an...interesting...manner, with lavender hair and striking purple clothing. It reminded Shiloh a little bit of fae fashion.

"Hello!" She said brightly. "What can I get for you? Our special this week is Grasplands coffee."

I don't have enough time to make a long post, so take this instead.

"Hello! What can I get for you? Our special this week is Grasplands coffee! Also please don't use your weapons, the mess resulting gets me in a lot of legal trouble and it's hard to clean up," Valerie exclaimed, perking up when she saw her first customer come in.

He had dark hair, and one of his eyes was a strange violet, marking him as at least half fae. He was also carrying weapons.

Note to self, keep an eye on anyone with weapons, Valerie thought.

She probably wouldn't be able to stop any confrontations if it came to that, but she could try. Or pretend to try, they were basically the same thing to her. Just, hopefully, nothing happened.

Said me before an impending disaster. Whatever, he's a customer. Our first customer!

"So, what can I get for you?" Val asked again, organizing her thoughts.

This may or may not actually work.

Shiloh~~

"Also, please don't use your weapons," The owner continued. "The mess resulting gets me in a lot of legal trouble and it's hard to clean up."

Shiloh had nearly forgotten about the weapons he carried with him. He'd grown so used to feeling of them always being there he'd practically forgot they existed. And besides, it had been a long time since he'd had to worry about his weapons looking out of place. These days, even most cityfolk carried swords and crossbows and other weaponry on them. The war had made Kyngdom a dangerous, volatile place.

"So, what can I get you?" The owner replied, looking up at him expectantly.

"Green tea, with coconut ginger tomato soup*," He replied, sliding a few platinums across the counter. Her eyes widened slightly at the money--it was far more than what the food cost. But Shiloh had a few extra coins, and besides, the cafe seemed new. It would do no harm to help a starting business.

Besides, it would make the owner trust him more.

She tucked the money into a pocket in her skirt and smiled. "Right away." The lavender-haired lady walked into the kitchen area.

Shiloh sat at a table in the corner, carefully--though discreetly--watching the door.

*This soup actually exists, and according to the 15-minute recipe site I found it on, it tastes good. (I didn't ever think there would be a day where I spent a good twenty minutes looking at different types of soups to find one that would fit the universe of Kyngdom, but here we are.)

Oh, and also, Shiloh's vegetarian. Fae don't do well with meat.

Well well well, that sounded like a difficult soup to make. Well, she would make it!

After scouring her pantry for anything relating to coconuts, and having a few mix-ups with whisks and spatulas, the soup was done. Valerie brought it out, after garnishing it with basil (because everything was better with basil).

"So, where are you from?" Valerie asked, setting the tray down on the table.

Shiloh~~

The woman returned, setting the food and drink down on the table. Her bouncy, bubbly nature seemed to spread through the air around her. There was something rather infectious about her excitement.

"So, where are you from?" She asked. Despite her friendly nature, Shiloh couldn't help but feel a little discomfort at the question. Though...she didn't look particularly dangerous, nor had she done anything to suggest otherwise. He decided telling her a vague answer could do no harm.

"Area around New Windswood, though I've been traveling for a while now. You?"

"Mer, of course," She replied. "So, how long have you been travelling?"

He paused again. "Little over sixty years. Why?"

The woman tilted her head, the purple buns her hair was tied into tilting with it. "Sixty years? You don't look that old."

"I have fae genes to thank for that," Shiloh responded, absentmindedly glancing down at the markings on his hands. The lady's eyes followed his.

"Ah, I thought you were at least partially fae," She explained.

Once Val set down the tray and they told her that they were from New Windswood, there was an awkward bit of silence. Especially awkward for Val, because she didn't know where New Windswood was.

Yep, she was a total sheltered spoiled Mer girl.

"So . . . I haven't been in on the latest, I'm not particularly sure what's going on right now. I know the world has been pretty much thrown into chaos by this brat called Catastrophe, but you see . . . Mer was unimportant after the power of fin fiasco, so I don't really know what's happening. Um . . . you look like you've been places, can you please explain?" Val asked, absentmindedly wiping a shiny clean table.

Shiloh~~

"You got most of it right," Shiloh said. "Someone named Catastrophe came, and raised an army to take over Kyngdom. His goal is to make Kyngdom stronger, or something. There's another organization, too, called the Resistance, who want to get rid of Catastrophe and make Kyngdom more equal. There's good and bad to each side."

"Any other recent happenings?" The girl asked.

"Well, I've heard there's a number of Sanukan-controlled ports being destroyed in the Grasplands, supposedly caused by the Resistance and Brazen Goo smugglers," Shiloh replied. "There's also the Pre-Winter Masquerade being hosted by the pur Keteques. It's located in Northeastern Kyngdom, southwest of the Decoy Forest. It'd probably be dangerous to travel there, what with the war and all."

"Pre-Winter Masquerade...sounds fancy," The woman replied.

"More like dangerous and a bad idea to host it during a literal civil war," Shiloh retorted, though his voice wasn't harsh or cruel.

~~~
Idea-- Since Val obviously ends up going to the Masquerade, maybe she hired Shiloh to protect her on her way there? Just an idea. It would also mean that this entire conversation has probably taken place a few days prior to the Masquerade.
Um, that sounds like a great idea but considering Val, she's probably not rich enough to do that :). We can still keep this conversation as a few days prior to the masquerade though.
---
Well, a masquerade? That certainly sounded like a terrible idea. Terrible, reckless . . . oh who was she kidding, it was a chance to travel! To meet new people! To make connections, to see the world!
"Um, sure," Val said, half-listening to the fae list all the reasons it was a bad idea.
She would go!
"Hey . . . I know you just said that you said it was a terrible and dangerous idea, but I'm not particularly involved in the war, so I'm probably going," Val said, "want to come with?"
Shiloh~~
"Hey... I know you just said that it was a terrible and dangerous idea, but I'm not particularly involved in the war, so I'm going," The woman said. "Want to come with?"
He was momentarily shocked at the offer--he had just spent a full minute listing the reasons why not to go. And yet, there was an eagerness and excitement in her eyes that he didn't want to vanish.
Besides, she probably wouldn't make it without him.
"Seeing as the alternative is you getting yourself killed..." He began, "Yes."
A grin broke out across her face. "Great! I'll go get my stuff, and--hey, we never introduced ourselves, did we? I'm Valerie Zhao. And you are..."
"Shiloh Mrtyu Karunai."
"Well, Shiloh, it's a pleasure to meet you," She said. "And I'm sure it'll be just as great to travel with you."
