Kyngdom Survival Guide

Traveler's RP!

Chatterbox: KYNGDOM™ RP Board

Traveler's RP!

Traveler's RP!

This is intended to be a low-stakes RP that doesn't impact the main plot where people can just jump right into Kyngdom :)

Kyngdom is a sprawling world with tons of people to meet and adventures to be had, from the coastal city of Mer to the frigid coniferous Decoy Forest. Several travelers are embarking on different journeys through it, and I assume they'll eventually meet up with one another, perhaps at an inn or a marketplace or a crossroads. This RP is a way for characters to interact, form relationships, and explore Kyngdom, and for us Kyngdomers to get to know this place as well :)

(Sybill posted a very helpful completed map of Kyngdom here: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/kyngdom-hoof/node/284773?page=2)

You're free to make as many characters as you'd like (well, as many as you can manage, I suppose), and anyone can join at any time. And if you're reading this and you're hesitant about joining Kyngdom, I encourage you to join :D Don't worry about making mistakes or anything--it's totally cool and we'll help you. Honestly, we're all pretty new here :) (And it's no secret that we need all the Kyngdomers we can get XD)

Here's the charrie form (and I also encourage you to post your character on the Who's Here? thread! :) )~

Pronouns:

Species:

Personality:

Skills/Abilities:

Background (you can figure this out as you go, too :) ):

I have some characters that I'll post when this goes up, and the RP can start at any time :)

Hey there! :) I just joined this RP too! My charrie, Altair, is a bit like Kosmos---they're both wanderers who don't know very much about the society they've found themselves in. Would you like to have them meet each other on their travels? I think they could make good friends or allies.

Sure! I'm glad someone reached out to me, and Altair (and Delta!) sounds like Kosmos's kinda creatures! Friends AND allies for sure :) How should they meet? I'm a little unsure how to do this still...

Sorry for the late reply, I've been offline for a few days! Well, from looking at the map of Kyngdom (on the third page of this thread https://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/kyngdom-hoof/node/284773?page=... ) it looks like there are some forests in the northwest and northeast map fragments, although it's a bit blurry. If Kosmos is from a forest and has only recently happened upon civilization, chances are she would still be close to her home forest, so perhaps Altair is traveling somewhere through the north and they run into each other?

So if you've ever done a roleplay before, you'll find Kyngdom pretty simple---its just one really big RP. What I've learned is that it's best not to worry about understanding the entire plot and details of Kyngdom, but just to jump in and start roleplaying and learn as you go along. That's where charries like Altair and Kosmos are really handy for starting out---they're new to Kyngdom too, so if we make a mistake or slip up or get a plot detail wrong, it makes sense because that's something out characters would do. If you haven't roleplayed before, it's not too hard. They're typically written from a 3-rd person close (not omniscient) point of view, and you write pretty similarly to how you would a book---you describe the actions and experiences of your charrie, but in shortish parts. You try not to say too much about what the other characters that aren't yours are doing, to give the other person/people space to choose what they want their character to do, but a little bit of it is necessary to keep things moving. You can look at what other people on this thread have done to get an idea.

Sounds like a plan- though I'm not really sure which forest to do! Do you have prefrences? Maybe the northwest forest? Idk, i'm just gonna start and see what happens

~*~Kosmos~*~

I jump a fallen tree, landing lightly on the tips of my toes before dashing under the trees, following the teasing squirrel siblings.

"Caaaan't catch us!" one squealed, jumping a branch to a spindly pine.

Dodging around the tree and rushing through ferns, and jump high, catch the tree branch and swing easily up, gently grabbing one of the squirrels as he ran straight into my hands.

"Ah, geez!" the furry animal squirmed, and I let him go.

The squirrels scamper away, the game finished, and I drop lightly onto the ground, landing in a crouch.

I'm Kosmos, and I'm an elf. I can understand the speech of all animals, and though most of their languages are simple, I can interpert their speech into more lengthy words and sentences.

I rise and walk in a random picked direction, heading northeast. I haven't been so far in this direction before, and I don't recgonize anything at all. The forest seems different here, almost quieter. There aren't oh so many bird calls, and I don't see nor here any other animals. How strange.

Up ahead, I can see the trees thinning, and I speed up, assuming there was a clearing or something like that. Instead, all of a sudden, I step out of the trees completely, and onto dirt. Lifting my bare feet, I look at the dusty strip heading in two directions, both disappearing around bends both ways. I frown, very surprised. This looked like a deer path- only much wider, and there seemed to be strange, straight tracks running through it. I hesitate, then start down this path, now going directly east. Before I have gone a few steps, a robin calls out behind me.

"Don't go, fair elf! This is the way to places were two legged animals rule, and it would not be safe for you, forest one!" Robins are quite proper with speech.

I pause. Two legged ones? More animals, creatures, like me? But that... I thought I was the only one! Could it be...? I straighten my shoulders, as well as my cloak, and dive back into the cover of the trees. I would follow this large deer path, but from a distance, in the cover of my home.

[ALTAIR]

I stride along the edge of the forest, through the underbrush, between the trees, which are spaces pretty far apart here. There's the occasional twitter from a bird or rustle in the underbrush, but it's mostly silent. Delta scampers along next to me, playfully chasing butterflies and frogs and nosing into rabbit dens. The late afternoon sunlight slants through the trees.

I hear a burbling noise on my left and turn, pushing through the bushes for a few minutes to find the source of the noise, the stream. I crouch down, touch my fingers to the water. Clean an cold. The chill of the water brings back memories, of six months ago, waking up in the ocean with no memory of who I am or where I come from. Delta jumps into the river, splashing me, and noses up against my hand. I grin, shake off the memories, and scratch them behind the ears.

My strange connection to water lets me know that this water is safe to drink, so I refill my bottle. As I straighten up, I suddenly notice the figure standing in the clearing across the stream.

~*~Kosmos~*~

I stay far from the trail most the time, swerving back occationally to check and see if I'm going in the right direction. I have to back track sometimes to find it again, but usually not very far. I walk most of the morning, sometimes walking, sometimes jogging. A friendly jay had flown with me for a bit, chatting my ear off. He flew away after awhile, though, and I was on my own for the rest of the time.

Now it was mid afternoon, the sun giving the forest a golden glow. Over the hours of my traveling, the forest had gradually shifted, with younger trees and far more open places. A few animals were more common now, and I could hear a stream nearby. I veer in that direction. Once I find the stream, I knelt and drank some of the fresh water, then walked upstream. Then I saw them.

On the opposite bank, a humanoid creature crouches by the stream, a young drake splashing happily near them. They straighten, and from across the clearing, I can see their bright amber eyes looking straight into mine. I gasp in surprise, and hurry forward, until I'm right at the water's edge, directly across from them. They have darker skin then mine, and they are a whole lot shorter. Their ears aren't at all pointed, but I can see some strange marks on their neck, like slits. I speak, and it sound so strange to my ears, for I don't usually vocolize outside of bird calls and other animal noises.

"You're like me, but not," my voice is soothing and meldodic, and slightly deep. "I've never.... and a drake... so rare... but never another one of me, even if it's not me. Who are you?" I definitely feel a little frazzled.

[ALTAIR]

Meeting a stranger in the forest is always a good time to be cautious, and especially a weird one like this. From the pointed ears, I think this person is an... Elf? While I have no memories of myself, I have a great deal of factual knowledge. Yes, this person is an elf. Their long, light brown hair glints golden in the sunlight, and a cloak made of a strange woven fur substance drapes around their shoulders. The slanting sunlight makes their amber eyes glow. This person is decidedly strange, and I've met them in a strange wood, and they're saying strange things. This is definitely a time to be careful.

I won't let my thoughts show, though. I smile at the elf. "Well, that's the question, isn't it. To be truthful, I don't know the answer much more than you do. But as far as it concerns you, I'm just a fellow traveler passing in the woods." If they want to say strange things, I can do that too. "And yourself?"

They expressed an interest in Delta, who is staring up at them curiously. "Chwrp?" trills Delta. The more time I spend with Delta, the more I'm convinced that they are no mere animal, but a creature of prime intelligence with their own language, just as intricate and possibly more than the common tongue. I've started to pick up some of their words, and I can sort of imitate them with my ocarina or recorder. Sometimes they imitate my words in a warbling way. Anyways, I don't know if I can trust this person, so I snap my fingers twice and point to the ground near my feet, which is our signal that means "potential danger, stay close." Delta scampers out of the creek, a fish clutched in their mouth, and settles down next to me to eat it. I find the practice of eating fish or meat strange and kind of gross---who wants to eat the flesh of another creature?---but Delta seems to like it. As long as they dont eat me or anything poisonous, I don't care.

I notice the humanoid creature looking wary, like a cornered rabbit. Did I speak strangely, or out of turn? Was I not speaking my language? Mm. Yeah, I was. But the creature smiles at me.

"Well, that's the question, isn't it. To be truthful, I don't know the answer much more than you do. But as far as it concerns you, I'm just a fellow traveler passing in the woods." They said."And yourself?

"I am an elf, and I am called Kosmos. I've lived in theh forest my whole life, and I've never seen anyone like me. And a drake, well. I'm am intruged. They are quite rare; I've only seen one two winters past."

"Who, me?" squeaked the drake, before scampering to the humanoid person side after they snapped their fingers. They then began chewing on a fish they caught.

"And they seemed to have formed a bond to you," I observed. "The two drakes I saw kept their distance and refused to answer my inquires." I glance at the stream, seperating us. I jump it in one fluid leap. I am now about the length of a bear from the two, and I see the the humanoid one tense slightly. I dip into a curtsy.

"If you are a traveler, may I travel with you?"

(January 29, 2024 - 10:56 am)

The elf clears the stream in one fluid bound.

"If you are a traveler, may I travel with you?"

This elf seems friendly enough, but something in me is wary---and I have reason enough to be wary. They're acting very strangely, and with the current heightened political tensions, anything strange is worth be careful of. Although they mentioned speaking to drakes---proving my theory that Delta has a language. I'll have to ask them more about that later.

"You don't even know where I am traveling to. I always welcome companionship on the trail, but it seems highly suspicious that you would want to come with me when you don't even know if we're going the same direction?"

I've been catching up on all replying things, before I just had time for quick little responses. I need to to catch up on AE Diaries, my ski lodge, here.... I finished answering to all my chats so Kosmos will be my new piority, promise!! Thanks for reminder :)

She was tiring, and the creature knew it. It's horn grazed her shoulder, and she cried out, stumbling onto her knees. She scrambled up and turned to face the creature. If she couldn't outrun it, she would have to fight it. But at that moment, the ground gave away, and she tumbled into darkness, darkness...

/-Fil-/

He dreamed about the village, of course. And first thing in the morning, he forced himself to forget, as always. He forced himself to forget everyone's faces, the people who screamed in bed at night, all the names and all the memories because it wouldn't do to remember. Remembering meant hurting. And Filain didn't want to be hurt anymore.

But this dream had been more vivid than the others. As if it'd wanted to be realized. Fil squeezed his eyes shut, trying to control the flow of emotions overtaking him, but then his blood turned to water and he crumpled to the floor.

The being replies, "You don't even know where I am traveling to. I always welcome companionship on the trail, but it seems highly suspicious that you would want to come with me when you don't even know if we're going the same direction?"

"You raise a valid point," I admit smoothly. "I was going in the general direction that the strange deer trail was leading, for a little bird told me that at its end there would be a place where there are others simular to me. I wanted to see if it was true. But then, here you are, and I'd much rather go with you, someone who I know for certain exists, over chasing a possible fantasy. Some birds are feathers for brains." I finish my telling with a slight dip of my head.

@Scuttles, do you have any preference of what time of year it is? Are we mimicking irl weather, because my mind wants it to be late spring in here :)

No preference! Late spring sounds good! It's still early spring where I live lol :)

[ALTAIR]

Well, this is one very strange person. Half my brain says not to trust them. The circumstances are too strange, especially with rising tensions all over Kyngdom. The other half thinks I can trust them. If they were somebody who wanted to harm me, they could have come up with a much better story than this. Besides, it would be nice to have an ally, even if, from what I can tell, they've lived their whole life in the woods and know nothing about Kyngdom.

I shrug. "Eh. Why not. It could er handy to have someone to travel with." I smile. "I'm Altair. And you are...?"
