STEAM MACHINE DESIGNS

Hello, newly appointed B.I.G. interns.

I am pleased to see such a large number of you have accepted our job offer—not least because you are no longer under the influence of Dr. Sheepshank and his, shall I say, "interesting" ideas. I would like to greet every one of you formally and individually, but urgent matters are now at hand.

As you know, we have discovered a mysterious object that was possibly fashioned in the den of wild beasts. Our initial experiments have confirmed this object has some great power. Furthermore, our team is confident its power has something to do with steam, air, or wind.

We hope you, the team who invented the Cypher, can use your genius for invention to design some machines that might harness this power. Please use this forum's new image upload field to post schematics of machines that harness the power of steam, air, and wind.

We have the resources to make your mechanical dreams a mechanical reality. So please, show us your dreams.

Your true friend and admirer,

Professor Cornelia Hornshaw

To Prof. Hornshaw, President of B.I.G.

Greetings,
As current ruler of the people of Orgasia, I would like to warn you about this device which you are investigating. It was forged before your planet even existed, and contains power, that when unleashed, could destroy your entire planet. It was lost millenia ago by my forefather, Zorgan, in a fierce battle between galaxies. I have been attempting to recover it before its stored energy could be released. Our most notable scientists have been attempting to safely harness this power, but all have failed, and caused notable damage to the surrounding area as well. I would encourage you to return it to the place you found it, where I can move it to a secure area, before you destroy the inhabitants of this planet. You will not be the first to attempt to use this device, and you will not be the first to be destroyed by it.

Sincerely,

Zerdan the powerful, XXXVIth Oberzark of Orgasia, explorer of worlds, conquerer of realms, almighty ruler of the Andromeda Galaxy, second son of Zorgan the Annihilator, XXXVth Oberzark of Orgasia, all-seeing warlord, destroyer of planets.

Windmills can harness wind and air. You can sometimes catch steam in a tube, but I don't have drawing software on this device to show what I mean.

BIG,

I offer you my ideas of a machine that can harness air and wind. Though I do think you should let me do more research on the object that you have found. If it was indeed fashioned in a den of wild beasts, then I would pay caution as it could be a hoax and not as fantastic as you think it is. Many young "scientists" have posted on the page warning you to not use, and though I do appreciate them warning you, I think they are wrong to just give up the project. From tracking their posts I can see that they are also posting and participating for the FAF, so I would advise you to be a little more careful when you pick followers.

So far from the little information that you have shared with us, it seems that this object revolves around the element of air. Air is a light compound made of oxygen but also in this are carbon dioxide and nitrogen, all reactive. But if you want to harness the power or air, I'm afraid that is impossible, but for wind, that is possible. If you were to put air in an air tight container and heat the bottom and cool the top at opposite ends of the container, you will soon have a breeze, and if you continue you will soon get huge gusts. Let loose those gusts, and then you have wind. O harness the power of the object, then you must attempt to place the object into the airtight container, repeat what is above, and compare the results. You might also want to experiment with water, making a whirpool, and so on. Please ask me if you have any questions. I will post a sketch of it soon.
