Video Games

This thread is all about video games. Here are some games that everyone on the CB should totally play.

There is an excellent indie gamemaker called thatgamecompany. Yes, not any sort of typo. It is called, lowercase letters and all, thatgamecompany. They make the most beautiful video games I've ever seen, and focus on provoking emotional responses in the player rather than game mechanics. One is called Flower. In the game, you're the wind, and it's your job to breathe life into the world by collecting flower petals.

In another of their games, Journey, you play a figure walking through the desert who looks like he or she is made of cloth. That game also looks really beautiful.

There's another video game called Katamari Damacy which was a great hit and spawned many sequels. I've just played the second in the series, We Love Katamari. In the games, the King of All Cosmos destroys the stars by accident and send his son, the Prince, to Earth so he can roll up stuff on Earth into clumpy balls (katamaris) so he can turn them into stars and repair the sky.

In Katamari Forever, the King gets hit by a metor and loses his memory, so the RoboKing takes his place.

So those are a few games you guys should play. They may just shake the way you look at video games.

Has anyone been to a video game exhibit? I went to one called The Art of Video Games at the Smithsonian, which, among others, featured Flower, and it was a great exhibit. The Museum of Modern Art has 14 video games (one of which is Katamari Damacy) displayed in their Applied Design exhibition, which is going on until January 20, 2014. I hope to see that exhibit.

Does anyone else play video games? If you don't you really should. They are an excellent art form and can be used to express a wide range of subjects and ideas. I might take a game design class sometime this fall.

Anyone up to talk about games a little further?

Yay, video games!  I would also like to recommend Scribblenauts and Super Scribblenauts.  In the game, you play as Maxwell, a little guy with a magic notebook and pencil.  Maxwell must write words down in his notebook and use them to solve puzzles to get a Starite.  For example, if the Starite is in a tree, Maxwell must write the word "ladder" in his notebook and then climb up the ladder to get to  the Starite.  Very fun.

Also, has anyone tried the new Disney Infinity game?  It looks awesome.

Yes, I play video games all the time! I've been playing them for as long as I can remember.

Well, of course there's Kingdom Hearts which is a game collaborated between Square Enix and Disney! And Kingdom Hearts Hearts HD 1.5 Remix is said to be released on September 10 and I really can't wait! I'm still playing the second, but it's SO cool! I love Kingdom Hearts!

I also love games like Crash Bandicoot, Frogger, and driving simulation games where my friend and I pretend we are on Top Gear, and laugh till we die playing this! Also some Laura Croft games.

Then of course there's the Nancy Drew PC games, which are really fun and sometimes really creepy!

Definitely check out these games if you haven't as well!

@JtS: Flower sounds pretty neat. So does Journey. I may have to try to find those.

As of this writing, all of thatgamecompany's games can only be found online over the PSN (Playstation Network) for the PlayStation 3 console. If you don't have a PS3, right now you're out of luck. But the developers are out of a contract with Sony now, and they said that they plan on releasing Journey on "as many platforms as possible".

YESYESYES!!! Steve has a T-shirt from the exhibit! It was really cool!

Right now I have been adicted to "Blast Away." It's addicting. You save the boxies and you're this robot kind of person, and it's just.... frustrating? Fun?

It's possible I'll be in a multimedia designing elective.... but I don't think I will. I think they work a little bit with video games, though.

Really, I don't play that many video games, but when I do, I have to finish them. I remeber working so hard on finishing Zombies vs plants, and tiny wings was done to quickly. It was frustrating, though. Same with Kingdom Rush, but I finially finished all the main levels. That game was cool. I loved the little characters. And they gave them all names! So sad.....

Has anyone played kingdom rush?

You play Katamari Damacy? Fun.

I play Pokemon games. Currently, I have Silver (but it stopped saving and I lost my dave file! Rawr!), Fire Red, Ruby (which I've completed, but I'm still finishing up the Pokedex and whatnot), Soul Silver (in memory of my poor Silver game which lost it's save file), and a Black that I haven't even started yet. Spinoff game wise, I have Pokemon Ranger (I have two Pokemon I need to catch! Two! I'm that close to completing the Pokdex! Stupid Pelipper!), Pokemon Fire Mystery Dungeon (so fun, but I haven't played in eons), Pokemon Conquest (I think that game is competing for the title longest game on earth), and... is that all? I thought I had one more. Huh. Guess not.

I also like watching people play games. My favorite ones to watch are Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger.

I know a lot about video games but I don't really play much.

The only real video game I play is Disney Universe, which is really fun.  Sometimes I play some of my brother's Mario video games, but that's the extent of my gaming unless you count the  Just Dance games.

When presented with new video games, I often sit there and fixate on one button and squeal about it (i.e. "I'm jumping!  Hey look at me, I can jump!  Lookee here, I'm Zelda and I'm jumping and my dress is really pretty!"), which was the cause of my loss of the only Super Smash Bros games I've ever played.

I am super excited about Disney Infinity, though, because when I get excited about a video game, I get really excited.

Princess, there's a thread about Disney Infinity Joe started around here somewhere.

I don't have any of the PlayStations or an Xbox (hint, hint mom) but I play a bit of Minecraft and a ridiculous amount of World of Warcraft on the computer and I have some crappy games on the iPad.

Anybody else here play WoW? Probably not, but it's worth a shot.

We have a Wii with various unamusing games on it. I'm Mario Kart champion. And that's really lame cause everyone is, so. I'm the BEST Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword player EVER. The Hylian Shield isn't mine yet, but...I'm getting there. I'm downloading a new game.. I'll let you know when I play it.

Oh, yeah. MINECRAFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, yeah, I have a Wii, PC, and iPad.  I only really play video games on the Wii, but I do have some of those distracting little games and apps like Diner Dash and Trivia on my PC and iPad.

So you're getting Disney Infinity on the Wii? I'm thinking about getting it on PS3, but it might be a while before I can get my mom to let me have a PS3 (by getting up to advanced in fencing, ARGH!) so I may also get the PC version when it arrives in October.

Rodney says coyb. Coyboy... sorta like a cowboy? Any idea what Rodney means? Sounds like it would make for an interesting video game character.

Games I must play:

Portal series

Uncharted series

Pikmin series

Little Big Planet series

Gravity Rush (man, I really want a PSVita)

And others. Has anyone played one of the games on this list? I demoed Gravity Rush a couple times at PSVita store displays. It's awesome to play. I also tried Uncharted 4 under the same circumstances, and that was cool too.
