Challenges Thread

- You have until the due date and time (central time) to submit answers to the current challenge.

- One answer per partnership may be submitted.

- At least one correct answer by the due date is necessary for the entire group to receive the challenge's clue.

- You may interact with the enviornment in any way you like. You may also speak to as many people in the environment as you want. Chat, ask them questions, etc. Once you post your end of the conversation, I'll submit their responses to you.

- If a partnership is eliminated, any answer they submit will not be considered.

Good luck.

I probably missed the deadline. Again. But I was at Swim practice all morning...

There once was a gumdrop named Ice

Who's coating was all very nice

he glimmered and glowed

and shimmered and showed

until it was eaten by lice.

What? It was supposed to be silly.

--Challenge #7--

-Environment-

You wake up in the high grass of a field. Sitting up, you find yourself and the rest of the CBers on the fielded hill of the farm with the goats, sheep, and the little girl Mikayla.

Mikayla's mother and a man you haven't met whom you presume is her father and speaking with Tom and Delia who are attending to a goat. Delia's wearing plain clothes (jeans and an old T-shirt), but she has a stethascope and is listening to the hearbeat of the goat. Tom is rubbing her, gently, as he holds her. The goat seems a little nervous, but not too upset.

-Due Date-

Eh. Sometime on Friday morning.

-Prompt-

An organism (A) can move on its volition by walking on four flat, five-digited feet. Inside its mouth are several sharp canines, flat carnissials, and some molars. Organism A is primarily terrestrial but can enter water and often does in order to feed. A has poor eyesight, but a powerful sense of smell and hearing. It does not have any other senses besides touch, taste, and the ones mentioned above. The creature bears live young about every three years, in batches of 2-3. A has no natural predators and its biggest threats are humans and human activities. The closest living relative to organism A is a family that contains seals, walruses, and elephant seals. Organism A is alive today.

-Answer-

Classify Organism A according to taxonomic rank. Go ahead and use the computer and Google and each other, like always. Include Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, and Family. You don't need genus and species, but if you want to guess those two, be my guest. If you get it right, I'll come up with an extra prize for you.

I posted a poem at 10:00 this morning, but it says that the last post was posted a few minutes before mine. So I don't think it got through...

It's because I posted two posts. But hey, 10:00 is morning. Rose bud and Bluebird have a correct answer!

If you have a conclusion, you need to test it. Your final answer comes in the form of you leaving the town. If you are in a doll's town, then leave it.

Ruby, can you elaborate on that?

Future clues will explain this in more detail.

Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, and Family

Answer: Eukarya, Animalia, Chordata, Mammalia, Carnivora, Phocidae.

In other words, multicellular creatures, animals, vertebrates (with exceptions), mammals, carnivores, true seals (without ears and with five-digited limbs).

Cho, feel free to edit answer.

As far as genus/species, our choices are the following:

Genus Cystophora

Genus Erignathus

Genus Halichoerus

Genus Hydrurga

Genus Leptonychotes

Genus Lobodon

Genus Mirounga

Genus Monachus

Genus Ommatophoca

Genus Phoca

I can't say I can name any of the characteristics of these off the top of my head, so I'll do a bit more research.

Oh wow. Sorry that I haven't been helping at all, Rose bud, but I've been really busy this past week and might not be able to help very much on this.

Because I feel like helping you guys out...

Your classification is incorrect. Seals don't walk on their feet, while organism A most certainl does.

No, further clues are.

I kneel down on the grass next to Tom and Delia. "Is there anything I can do to help out? What's the problem?" I study the goat, wondering exactly why we -- and they -- are here.

Delia smiles and says, "Hi. I've seen you before, haven't I? This is Nana and she's got a stomachache, so we're here to make sure everything's okay."

"Are you vetrinarians?" you ask.

"That's right," she says. "Both Tom and I are. That's how we met. Oh, have we introduced ourselves? I'm Delia, and this is Tom."

"Air and Cho Chang," you say. "I knew your name from the others."

"What others?" Tom asks in confusion.

It seems that they have absolutely no knowledge of any of the other CBers but you and your partner.

"Can I help out?" you ask.

"Thanks, but we're doing okay," Tom says.

Ruby - if partnerships aren't eliminated by getting incorrect answers, or by failing to answer at all, how are they eliminated exactly? Or is that something we're not supposed to know?
