Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

One day you're lounging in your room, sprawled across your bed, reading a book. It's getting hot in the room, but you barely notice, so engaged are you in your novel. You’re just at the part where the hero is emerging from the vast wasteland into a luscious city of overgrowth and magnificent chalky pillars. You sigh, immersed in the exquisite descriptions of the author. If only it were like that here… All of a sudden the heat seems unbearable, and you slide off the bed, tossing the book down on your sheets. Walking over to your window, you unlatch it and heave up the pane, letting the cool air rush in. You sigh blissfully, relieved of the stuffy summer heat. From downstairs, you hear your mother call you. Reluctant to leave, you slide your window shut and go to her. She’s at the table, sorting through a pile of letters. Without glancing up, she hands you one. You take it hesitantly, unsure of what to think of it.

The letter’s envelope is cool and heavy, made of a silky parchment. It's addressed to you, but you don't remember sending any letters recently. Upon opening it, you find that the letter inside of made of the same paper. Inscribed on it, written in glittering silver ink, are the words:

Hello, my dearest Chatterboxer!

I have written to you to invite upon a most grandiose adventure! I have recently acquired goggles (perhaps you’ve heard of the kind-- the Oculus Rift is one brand?) that will allow you to see the world though new eyes! To let you gaze upon lands far away! But on this undertaking, I do believe you’ll be doing much more than just seeing this places…

Pack your bags and prepare yourself to begin the adventure! Eleven lucky CBers will be allowed to participate in this wondrous adventure! And don’t hold a worry in mind, of course you may take a companion. No more than two, I ask of you, though, for we do have rather small quarters.

Mysteriously yours,

Inscrutibilius

P.S. This journey will be tragedy-free. Although, if any injuries occur (nothing more, I do hope), I’m afraid I won’t be taking responsibility. Once again, though, harbor no worry, for we do have a reliable source at a base who will be able to send help and resources.

P.P.S. Please do forgive my verbosity. I rather enjoy using large words.

~~

You may begin to guess me as soon as you join! Have fun!

If it is not too late... you did say eleven could come. Well, if so, then I'll come with:

Anna (My shy and sweet side. Brown hair and eyes)

Queenie (My stubborn, annoying, romantic, kind of childish, and thinking very high of herself because she is royalty side. Very pretty, golden hair and ocean blue eyes)

Clothes

Food

Water

Sunscreen and bug spray (never knew where we'll go!)

Books, of course

Brian is a super-annoying teenager who is very handsome. He has a salsa blaster, and likes destroying things. He can put on a pretty good nice act to trick people, but it's totally fake.

Ellak is a golden, robotic, dragon. He LOVES reading, books, and anything to do with them. He gets offended easily, and when he does, he snorts out smoke. He is always quoting from books. He also has a magical library in his belly which contains every book in the world. (He's my nerdy side, and Brian is my annoying side).

P.S. Can we bring CAPTCHAS? If so, I'll bring Cardinal. She is a Cardinal, and likes to sing very catchy songs ino your ear, so you hum them randomly.

OOH AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

Echosong has long, wavy brown chocolate hair, hazel eyes, and a sprinkling of freckles. She is very shy and loves art and music. (She's a really good singer, and my artistic side.)

Luna, my CAPTCHA (Hope it's ok if I bring her) is a grey wolf with blue eyes and a sarcastic and sassy temper. She says "kuba" Tuba? Cub? I don't even know. She's really annoyed at me right now, becuase I haven't been posting her CAPTCHAS.

Day One, Part Two

The wind swept over the CBer’s faces as they ascended up the mountainside. Inscrutibilius scrambled up the rocky ledge as gracefully as a cat, but the rest of the CBers were having more trouble. Ellak was making progress much more quickly, digging his sharp steel claws into the rocky mountainside and scaling it almost as quickly as Inscrutibilius. “Hey, Ellak, wait up!” Kate-the-Great said, shifting her foothold onto a ledge. “We can’t all fly.”

“Oh, I can!” said Cortana, turning into a bird and fluttering around September’s head. September looked mildly annoyed, but shook her head and focused and climbing up the mountain.

“You’re almost there,” Inscrutibilius’s voice floated from the top of the mountain. “Just don’t look down!” Kestrel tried to heed Inscrutibilius’s words, but inevitably her eyes strayed down. The dizzying vertigo almost made her lose her grip, but she quickly slammed her eyes shut and climbed a little faster. “Also, one more thing,” Inscrutibilius continued. “Make sure your goggles are safely tucked away! We wouldn’t want to leave such an extraordinary piece of technology at the bottom of the Rockies!”

Oh, they certainly are.

“Come on, you’re almost there!”

How amazing, how worthy.

“Careful of your friends.”

They’re just… to die for.

Unnoticed by anyone else, a few chips were sliced off the mountainside. They left a small ledge of rock that looked like a foothold, but anyone trying to step on it would find out what it really did. The person looked up and down the mountain. CBers, AEs, and CAPTCHAs alike were crawling all over the mountainside. It wasn’t certain, but they were sure at least someone would spot the ‘foothold’ and try to use it. Steadily the person sidled away from it, continuing their upward ascent.

Kate-the-Great laughed, gripping the rock as tightly as she could as Ellak fluttered around her head, rapid-fire quoting books. “Ellak, be quiet and go away! I need to concentrate!” Ellak’s ears drooped, but he zipped away to hover near Brian. Kate-the-Great resumed her climbing, determinedly not looking down. As she reached for a handhold overhead, she noticed that her rope that secured her to the safe point at the top of the mountain had become loose. Shoot, she thought, biting her lip. That could be dangerous. She glanced up once more as she weighed her options. The handhold looked solid enough. Reaching up for it, she let go with her other hand to fix her rope.

The quiet grinding of rock scraping off the mountain was the worst sound she ever heard.

It was also the last.

All the CBers heard Kate’s scream as she toppled like a deadweight. Inscrutibilius lunged down the rocky sheet, desperately trying to grab her hand, but only caught thin air.

“KATE!” Ellak roared, diving for her. They all saw him dive for her. They all heard the crack. They all saw Ellak stop short, body shaking.

“No…” murmured Inscrutibilius.

R.O.T.M, Kate-the-Great. Rest on the mountain.
