Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Poetry Contest

Poetry Contest

Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!

The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.

The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*

Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?

I hope to see your poems soon!

The time when

Sun touches the end

End of the world

And the stars greet

Greet the darkening sky

Day and night

Waiting for you

Bad twilight

Are you still coming

Day and night

The sun is here yet gone

Make it bright

But there is only dark without you

It's going to be alright

Lies

Day and night

Searching through the stars for your eyes

Bad twilight

But none shine as bright as yours

Day and night

Why won't you come

Make it bright

But the sun's gone

It's going to be alright

Lies

Honorable Mention: Ayles C!

I love this! As you read it you can hear the rhythm in the words. The rhymes are awesome, too! It really makes me feel like it’s a cozy rainy evening. Amazing job!

3rd Place: Avara Star!

Ooh, this is such a mysterious piece. It’s so beautiful! I love all the descriptions, especially “the sky paints” Awesome poem, I love it!

2nd Place: Moon Wolf!

Wow, this poem is so beautiful. It’s so cool with it being slightly cut off at the end of some lines! And I love how it begins and ends with dialogue, it really adds a story to the poem! Great work!

1st Place: Hawkstar!

The combination of regular font and italics is so powerful here. It really gives me a sense of someone searching, searching for something. I love “the time when sun touches the end”. Wow!

Congrats everyone, thanks for submitting your poetry! It was really fun to read. Hawkstar, you’re the next judge!

This universe is so

Vast

And compared, I feel

Small

It seems impossible

That

I’ll find someone who

Understands

Who I am truly, deeply,

Inside

The inhabitants of

Earth

Would laugh if I said

Who

I truly wanted to be,

And

Wanted to be with,

So

Maybe somewhere out

There

In this vast universe

Is

A planet that accepts

All

No matter what, or

Maybe

This planet is the one

I’m

Standing on right now

Oops, I thought I'd posted a poem a couple days ago but I must've forgot to hit submit. (Or it was the glitch again) I'll copy-paste it really quick~

The Feeling of Universe

Universe is a feeling

It's the feeling of walking along the sidewalk with your best friend

Stepping over all the millions of tiny cracks

In your favourite sneakers.

It's the feeling of lying on the grass on a summer day

Looking up at sky

Watching the clouds drift like wind puppets.

It's the feeling of playing your favourite music loud

On a speaker, not your headphones

Dancing and smiling

Not caring who hears.

It's the feeling of freedom

The kind of freedom that spirals on and on

Until the end of the universe

ps, sorry if the format is kinda off it was being weird but who knows *shrugs*

sun-hearted mother

she is restless, for she sets all her darlings in motion;

and she grins when she sees their blazing orbits

and churning atmospheres;

the universe, though old and wise, had the forsight

to retain her childlike wonder

which is why every speck and every body

is both mysterious and loved

and full of unknowable intent.

the universe cups her hands around the stars

and whispers to them of their beauty

so that they may shine even in death,

so that the planets and comets have something to guide them home;

and she puts within each rock and body

an unseen will, leading them down a path

carrying them around the sun and away from the endless dark;

and she makes the bigger ones so strong

that the littles take notice of them

and latch on to their gravity,

making themselves moons and creating a beautiful friend;

and she loves, and she loves, and she loves.

and so deep is her care and selflessness

that we cannot help but love in return.

These three poems were so hard to choose where to put, they are all very wonderful. But I finally decided, so here you are.

Third place ~ WildWolf

I love the setting behind this poem, describing the universe as a friend. I quite agree! It's short, but sincere and I especially love the: It's the feeling of playing your favourite music loud/On a speaker, not your headphones/Dancing and smiling/Not caring who hears. I think this description is amazing, and I'm glad you shared this poem!!

Second place ~ Moon Wolf

OMG, this is soooo good! I absolutely love the format, and the even describing of each feeling. I also feel quite small to the vast universe XD I always, always enjoy reading your poetry, and you did very well with this one :)

First place ~ Luna-Starr

This is, without doubt, an beyond the universe amazing poem. I love, lovelovelove the sun mother theme, and all of any creation her children. Your words are so smoothly set, and just UGH I love how you write! You definitely deserve first place, so congratulations! You are the next judge :DDD

Okay, not too happy with this, but:

The End of the Path

I've been following this path

Forever.

I know I should

Turn aside,

Shouldn't I?

But my feet follow

And won't stop.

I'm curious about

The end,

The one place

I've been waiting for,

My rest.

What is it like?

Is it a garden,

A

Colorfilled sactuary?

Is it an endless

Sea of

Sapphire ripples?

Perhaps it is

A golden castle,

Adorned with

Crystal gates

And

Gleaming windows,

Or a

Music-filled

Greenhouse,

Bursting with

Emerald

And sage,

Moss

And blue-green.

Whatever it is,

I know

I'ts perfect.

~

Anyway, again, not my favorite, but it's poetry, right?

my world seems to be drowning in endings,

the last time he looked at me,

the last time the stars shone with such intensity,

the last time i found that dream,

the snatching away of golden horizons,

the dying old tree that

someone, sometime, planted with a heart overflowing with

hope for the future and trust in a blossoming present

and now all that's left is this faint, outdated emblem

of the ending of all those ideas

once i knew what beginnings were,

once i forged them for myself,

unafraid of their results because their results had to be

beautiful;

there was no hesitation in setting off,

no fear that the rising sun would have

lifted out of reach

by the time i got to the horizon

but now i can't even remember the beginnings,

all i'm gazing at, all that matters now,

are the endings, so different from what

i had imagined them to be;

it's sad, to find an ideal or a vision gone

just when you wanted it

to find that you're on the wrong side of the horizon

because the sun's in the west now, and it's setting

like your destroyed hopes

but when there seems

to be no way of beginning again,

the stars begin to appear

and glow across the dark heavens of despair;

not the same bright stars i knew once

because i don't have you to share them with,

but stars that are a new beginning

because i have to begin to see them differently

now that i can't see them the same way

and

even when the stars have faded,

i find at the foot of the old oak

a tiny green beginning that

didn't ask for my help in growing,

it just appeared with a brave new zeal

for an amazing new world,

bringing the beginning of another life with it;

not the powerful towering tree i knew,

but not an ending.

and without realizing it

i've picked up the old thread of hope

to follow it out of the minotaur's maze of endings

- to find a new sunrise to follow -

because for every ending there is a new

beginning.
