Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Poetry Contest

Poetry Contest

Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!

The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.

The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*

Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?

I hope to see your poems soon!

Here's my entry. Emotions, right? I hope I remembered the theme correctly.

Emotion Musics

I can hear it

With every beat of the drum

Every sound of the keys

Every strum of my guitar

The feeling grows louder

You can hear too

I see it in your eyes

You thought it was impossible

“Feelings don't have voices”

That’s what you said

I proved you wrong

You hear their voices now, too

Happiness has a lilting voice

Trilling, leaping

Dancing among us all

You see her now, I know

She calls to you

Sadness has a quiet voice

Or one so loud

You can't ignore it

He crawls to you

Begs for your attention

Sadness has a place here, too

Anger has a pounding voice

Unmistakeable

You hear him from miles away’

Or so low and burning

You can't tell until he’s here

He has his place and time

Fear has a trembling voice

Too hesitant to step outside

To come away from the familiar

She clings to you

To what she knows

Comfort her

She has her place here, too

Love has the strongest voice

You can hear it through all the others

He unites them

Makes them one

Their voices rise together

Laughing, crying, howling, trembling

Loving

Anyone can recognize their voices

Once they hear it

Hi! I have no idea if I'm submitting this too late (It's my first time with this competetion) and it's probably not as good as the amazing ones already up, but here is mine based on the word 'emotion':

The Price of Emotion

A single tear carves down my face

cutting deeper than blades

mingling with blood

soaking its way down to my exausted soul

staggering with the pain

of a hundred razor thin cuts.

Each tear that falls

lands in my heart

slowly dragging it down with the weight of liquid grief.

There is no escape from this prison,

terrible yet ineveitable,

that all must face

with trembling courage

and splintering faith.

The handprint that you left on my heart

is cracked and fading

and the only sound to keep me company

is your ghostly laughter

from another world.

This is the fee of human emotion

each smile and memory

radiating warmth of times past

is burdened with unavoidable pain.

This is the fee of human emotion.

And now,

with a shredded soul

and a drowning heart,

I am finally paying the price.

Um I hope I got the topic right, but:

The River of Emotions

I drank from the river

of emotions

and

when I arose

my head spun

with the light

of thousands of candles

flickering, fighting

to stay alive,

to stay whole.

I sat down

again

and the candles stilled

their flames,

waiting,

waiting,

for the rush

that came

when I stood again.

It felt

as though

a great

entitiy

was smashing my skull

with a hammer

and screaming.

The emotion-candles

in my head

swirled

and their flames

singed the old candles

and relighted them

and then came

the tears.

A new river

flowed from my eyes

and at the edge

of my vision

I saw

a little girl

drink from the

new river

that had streamed from

my tears.

Alright friends, here are the results! There were a lot of poems this time around and I enjoyed reading all of them, so I'm really sorry if I couldn't get you onto the rankings but I liked everyone's poems! Anyway, without further ado, we have:

Honorable Mention - aqua! Your poem had some pretty cool and powerful images, and the last two lines especially were really beautiful!

Third place - Sunbeam. Your poem was full of gorgeous words and imagery, and I love how vividly you described these two people's relationship.

Second place - tied between Wreeboo and Nyx! Wreeboo, you did a great job of illustrating how feeling emotions for the first time would go, and I love the way you tied it back to the beginning at the end of your poem, like a cycle. Nyx, the way you fitted personalities to emotions was really impressive, and I think your poem captured everything really well! Nice job, you two.

First place - *drumroll* Silver Crystal! This poem was lovely. I found all the description to be really striking, and the last line, "I am finally paying the price", was very haunting and powerful. Congratulations, you won!

Sorry I didn't go into a lot of detail on this, I don't have a lot of time, but if any of you would like further thoughts on your poems feel free to ask, because I have some praise and some critique for all of them! But for now, congratulations Silver Crystal!

Oh my gosh I was not expecting that! Thank you Leafy, I'm glad you liked it :) Everyone else was so talented and amazing, I'm surprised I won XD Anywayyy I choose ocean as the new theme, but I don't know if that has been done before; if it has, tell me and I'll change it. Judging will be Dec 10 in two weeks. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with :D
