Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Endless Spring

Endless Spring
It's a clear, crisp December afternoon as you are walking home from school. The first flakes of winter are falling, and you stop to catch a few on your tongue. Most of the trees are bare of leaves, but one is covered in its full green foliage. You stop and peer up at the tree, the one that looks so unusual this time of year. And before you know what you're doing, you are sitting on a branch next to a bemused but unafraid crow, swinging your legs over the side of the branch. You notice something in the branches above you. A letter- with your name on it. You pluck it from the branch, and stop to marvel at the quality of the wax seal on it- green, with a leaf imprinted on it- that you barely notice the leaves on the tree slowly- but in perspective rapidly- changing first to yellow, then orange, red, and even a bit of purple and brown. They have started falling from the tree, but you are too immersed in your letter even to notice.
Dearest CBer,

(Yes, Trevor is here, he was just lurking in my imagination because he felt no obligation to come out at the moment. Now that Zoey is here, however, he does. )

If we have to split up, then I call Zoey as my partner!

Splitting up might help us get out of here faster.....but how would we contact each other if one of us found the exit and the other didn't? Anyone have a flare that they packed by chance?

We could... Yell? Maybe?

Can anyone do magic? Green sparks if you find the exit, red sparks of you get in trouble?

(January 11, 2018 - 2:47 pm)

Oh no no no no no no no. First rule of adventuring: never split the party. Never. Usually everyone dies, or almost dies. And there's no guarantee that the others will be able to find the exit if any of us do. Especially if this is a shifting maze. Unless you have string.

Ah ha ha, well looky here! *Rumages in luggage* I just so happened to pack my knitting tote, which includes knitting needles, scissors, measuring tape, patterns, and YARN!! AKA STRING!! Okay, so what colors do we want? I have purple, blue, grey and yellow.

(January 14, 2018 - 2:57 pm)

*glares at yarn* Time to find out if this is a shifting maze.

*snaps fingers* *grabs Post-its out of thin air*

Give me the grey.

*sticks end of yarn between two sticky sides* *instructs Post-its* Stay here, and don't move. *lets go* *watches Post-its hover* *addresses three more Post-its* Take the other end and go back the way we came. If you find the courtyard, tie it to something that won't move and won't cut through the yarn, and then send one back, you. Give anyone who tries to touch it papercuts until they stop. If you don't find the entrance, you stay and send the other two back. I'll hold the spool thingy, so don't worry about the weight. Now go, and good luck! *watches Post-its fly off, feeding out yarn*

Now, to wait for their return. It should only take a minute, they're quick.

Okay, then. We'll wait. *Stuffs other yarn back in knitting bag* *Waits*

(January 16, 2018 - 12:56 pm)

*waits*

Ah, here they come. Or, rather, here it comes. It's just the one, which means they found the courtyard! Doesn't mean this isn't a shifting maze, though. *lets Post-it land on finger* You did well. Now back to your pad. *snaps fingers* *Post-it disappears*

All right, now we can go safely. *vanishes other two Post-its at hand* *takes yarn* Forward! Which way next?

*records turns* Left, right, right--oh, first dead end! And there's a treasure chest. *pulls out Post-it* Check for traps. Use a leaf for organic material.

*watches*

Okay, all clear! I'm opening the chest... *places hand on lid, lifts a hairline crack* *pauses* *opens chest slowly with a creak of old hinges* *looks in*

It's full of seeds...?

*folds Post-it into a packet* I want to see what these grow into later. *fills packet from chest* *seals packet* I'm done, let's go!

*several minutes later* And a right... *records turn while walking* *bumps into something*

Ow! What was that... *looks up*

Oh.

Hey Vy, how sharp are your knitting needles?

(January 23, 2018 - 1:35 pm)

I have a pocketknife! What are we facing?

submitted by Quill
(January 23, 2018 - 3:21 pm)

Oh, they can be pretty sharp. And even sharper if what I'm stabbing them into is trying to attack me. Quill, we can definatly use your pocket knife, it's proabably a better wepon than aluminium needles. What is it, Viola?? I can't quite make it out because of this fog that just popped up out of the blue....*Fog rolls in*

(January 23, 2018 - 4:09 pm)

*turns around*

Whoa! Viola?, put those away before you poke someone’s eye out! Oh wait. Sorry for scaring you all. Surprise surprise, I got lost but I’ve found you guys! Thank goodness. I’ll warn you of the things I found if you like.

(January 23, 2018 - 6:27 pm)

I can't see a whit through this fog!

Here, let me. *conjures a glowing ball of light in her palm that illuminates the surrounding walls and group* *or rather, where the group should be.... DUH DUH DUH*

Look! On the ground! Isn't that Vyolette's yarn? Let's follow it!

Oh, it's only you. Good. But I'm not holding the knitting needles...? Anyway. Where did this fog come from? *turns around* Is that a light? Are we near a swamp? Don't follow mysterious lights in swamps.
