Story and Art

Story and Art Competition.

So, I know there are a few short story competitions going on right now, but the judging day isn't for a while, which is sort of nice and sort of annoying. And they are for longer stories. WKBU had to use multiple posts for their story, for example. And I know there is also a drawing contest going on. But I thought it would be fun to have a story and art contest in one thread. You can submit a story, illustration, or both, whatever you like. Here are the rules:

1) Stay appropriate and follow all CB rules. I know this is obvious, but I thought I should still add it.

2) Your story must be between 50 and 200 words. You need talent to make a good story that is so short, and I thought it would be good to work on that.

3) There is a two week deadline for each round of the contest. I'm judging the first round on May 28th.

The first theme is hope. Have fun, and good luck!

FLY AWAY:

Her words cut into me like shards of ice. I freeze my answers and send them back. Ignore her. Fly away, and pay just enough attention to hurt her worse, or bore her: These two ways are how I survive. Boring her away is easier. If I cry, if I show weakness, she will return. But if I fly away and look down at her-an ant down on the ground, laughable and weak-she will leave, because her little plaything don't respond.
 Fly away, fly away.
Ignore her. Fly away: The mantra I chant to myself when she does this.
Grit your teeth, cross your heart, fly away.
She will stop soon, but first the full force of the hurricane. Grit my teeth and ready my wings. Fly away, little bug. She does.

Shaking relief: I have flown another marathon, and I'm not smashed to pulp. I've won. This time.

I want to go to the Willa Cather Academy of Flight.
Nah, I don't feel like worldbuilding-maybe another writing project.
Let's go back to the beginning. What does the word flight make me think of?
   Maximum Ride.
That is not an acceptable topic. What else?
A gust of wind that sends leaves and helicopter seeds flying. A raven's wing outstretched to catch the gust.
 I got nothing!
Hey, wait, what about a bird's thoughts as it flies around? That's actually not a bad idea!

WOOP! WOOP! WOOP!

Ugh, I hate those alarms. I can never tell what they're for.
*Braoin runs by*
Braoin! What's going on?
It's an E.A.T.A.A.A.S.M.S (Extreme Aversion To Animals As A Story's Main Character) alarm.
Well, I know what caused that.
I rack through shelves of ideas.
Nothing! Nada! Zip! Zilch!
I hate themes.
There's gotta be something....
*trashes Idea Room in search of something to write*
Relax. I have something.
*waves piece of paper*
What IS it?!
*reads paper*

....

You think this will work?
I dunno.
Yeah, that's reassuring.

The End

@Ever, hey! Could I do the art for your story? It was so good, I thought it was so beautifully written. (I didn't do anything for the first round, whoops)

Gaaaaah I totally forgot about judging this! If anyone still cares, I'm extending the deadline to July 5th so that Quill can hopefully get their illustration in. I am so sorry guys!
