Musicals! Yay musicals!

Musicals! Yay musicals!

Musicals! Yay musicals! We had a thread for these a while ago but it's long dead now so here's a shiny new one! Yay! /peppiness

At the moment I'm listening to the 2005 revival cast recording of Sweeney Todd... Patti LuPone is amazing... And the score is cool, 'cause it's just a handful of instruments as opposed to a full orchestra, which makes for an interesting change.

I'm also a fan of Disney's The Little Mermaid (because Sherie Rene Scott is amaaaaaazing... Well, everyone was but SRS especially....), and Aida (again, SRS, amazing... but a definite WTH Casting Agency with Disney's plans to make a movie with *Beyoncé* and *Christina Aguilera*... Ugh...).

And also Wicked (Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth and a mechanical dragon head... h'm...), Les Miserables (as a matter of course...), The Phantom of the Opera (Erik/Christine FTW. Raoul's just an annoying git, quite frankly), Cats (especially the filmed stage cast with Elaine Page, goodness yes...).

Oh, and Rent, of course. I love Rent. And Adam Pascal, I love Adam Pascal... Hopefully Disney'll recast him as Radames in their Aida movie. I might forgive them for their... poor... casting choices for Aida and Amneris if they got AP to do Radames again.

And Spamalot, because Monty Python + music is a wonderful combination. They didn't win Best Musical for nothing, you know.

I've also recently become mildly obsessed with some of the songs from The Music Man (namely, all of the Harold Hill songs, especially Ya Got Trouble...).

Off Broadway, I lovelovelove A Very Potter Musical. It's amazing. Especially Snape ("Ten points from Griffindor!"), Draco ("I want Hermione Granger! ...And a rocket ship.") and Voldy ("You think killing people will make them like you, but it doesn't. It just makes people dead").

H'm, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Danny Elfman is a genius (and he's doing the soundtrack for Alice in Wonderland! SQUEE! Do you have ANY idea how AWESOME that movie's going to be? Tim Burton, Danny Elfman, Johnny Depp, HBC, Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Timothy Spall!? *squeesqueesquee*).

/overuse of the word amazing.

And what does everyone else think on the subject?

Just rewatched it with my brother. It was even awsomer the second time.

Ron: Now i am going to curl up in my sock drawer and sleep for days.

Dumbledor: What the heck's a Hufflepuff?

Voldy's review of 17 again: It started out slowly but I mean, it's Zack Ephron. Zephron!

I forgot who but I think it was Ginny: Oh My Rowling!

Harry: I don't want my life to be like Spiderman 3. I hated that movie!

I love how Malfoy is the only one with a British accent and rolls around on the floor! I am at fanclub website making frenzy here!

Voldemort: YOU ROLL OVER RIGHT NOW, or- or- I'LL EAT YOUR PILLOW! You'll be having a dream that you're eating a giant marshmallow but you'll wake up and your favourite goosefeather pillow WILL BE MISSING.

Re: Dumbledore and Ginny: I thought they were hilarious, personally, except the actress who plays Ginny sounds weirdly like Sherie Rene Scott at times. But that's good, I suppose, 'cause she's got a really good voice.

Re: Draco: And it's one of those obviously fake accent. Plus, it's a girl who's only wearing one earring and always fixes her wig when she's not delivering lines. Are you surprised Draco is amazing in the play? Hm?

I love Harry's song. It's so pretty...

The way his hair falls in his eyes/Makes me wonder if he'll ever see through my disguise/That I'm under his spell/Everything is falling and I don't know where to land/Everyone knows who he is but they don't know who I am

Harry... Harry.../Why can't you see/What you're doing to me...
