Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

We don't seem

We don't seem to have a music thread. I seek to remedy this.

For talking about, um, music! Songs! Artists! Whatever. Perhaps snippets of lyrics or something.

Three points:

1. Just bought the 5th anniversary Wicked soundtrack, mostly for the German+unidentified language (I think Japanese...?) bonus songs. Gutes tun/No Good Deed in German is ammmaaaaaaazing.

2. Recently downloaded a full show video thing of the pre-Broadway LM trials. Ursula's deleted four-line song=teh current obsession. "Now at last my plan is on its way to its delectable conclusion/Only one more sunset and then finally I'll own the little beast/Soon I'll have my brother just exactly where I want him/And I'll be unstoppable as long as I have this!" <3.

Interestingly enough it's the same tune as Prince Eric's "I can hear her laughter in the ripple of the waves against the shoreline/I can see her smiling in the moonlight as it settles on the sand/I can feel her waiting just beyond the pale horizon/Singing out her melody too lovely to withstand..."

Which makes the current obsession a reprise of Her Voice, oddly. Wish it hadn't been axed.

3. Singing in German must be really hard. Those were some impressive consonants in Gutes tun and Solang ich dich han.

Heehee, we have the Philadelphia Chickens CD too! (Very random) "Pig Island" Pig Island/ Pig Island/ Oh what a wonderful place to be!/ They play on the beaches/ The color of peaches/ There by the sea, oh my/ Under a blue, blue sky./ Very amazing. *nods*

I also like....Lady GaGa, Taylor Swift, 3oh!3, Black Eyed Peas, Owl City (Fireflies), and that song Supermassive Black Hole.

Musicals:

Wicked rules. Popular/ I know about pop-u-lar/. I went to see it and my mom got me tickets for the first row. :) So the monkeys jumping out at the begining freaked me out for a minute. I definitely wan't expecting it.

The Lion King. I went to see it twice, once in Toronto and the second time... I'm really not sure. :P But it was cool. Listen to The Lion King movie music. Then listen to the musical. Way better than the movie. X)

My mom /loves/ U2 for some reason. She has all their CDs. Yes, all. Well, maybe not all, but I just looked the other day, and there were five discs downstairs in our disc-holder-thingy. And then she has at least three in her car. Maybe more.

And my dad has an ipod and listens to the Most Amazing Songs Ever. Like, "Walking on the Moon." Giant steps are what you take/Walking on the moon/I hope my legs don't break/Walking on the moon/We could walk forever/Walking on the moon/We could live together/Walking on, walking on the moon./ It's by Sting and Police.

*is looked at funny*

Yes, I'm ranting on about things. It probably doesn't even make sense. Oh well. I think this is my first time posting on PP, so, yeah. Bye. :)

Oh, also, I like "When I'm 64" by the Beatles. That is such a good song!

Mom never said not to Goodsearch, and every time you use that OLL gets a penny...

I wonder, would I still get the Yahoo! link if I goodsearched?

Maybe I should try... *quietly glances around room*

MwaHAH!

I found the link to the megavideo site and was able to watch the first six or seven scenes! *triumph* The filming was not spectacular, but still. Awesomeful. Here are my thoughts:

-My CD of the OBCRs had some stuff cut out. For instance, Prince Eric's little thingy during Storm At Sea. The short song to the tune of World Above. Very pretty.

-In IWtGTB, instead of "Resume her wacky fun / Restore the joyful charm of causing harm to everyone" they had something else. Can't figure out what it was...

-Ha. With SRS's handbag ad lib, her face went all blank for a second, like, "Wait! What did I just do?!" and then you could almost see her shrugging, like, oh well, whatever. 'twas pretty funny... And I'm proud of myself for noticing...

-Flotsam and Jetsam were terrific and smarmy. :)

-The audience clearly loved SRS...

-My CD cut out some of IWtGTB and Human Stuff, as well.

-For that matter, what was the deal with Scuttle's costume, mm?

Overall though, I loved it. Of course, I only got up to the end of IWtGTB before mom come home and I realized I was supposed to have put Jack to bed almost an hour ago... in my defense I thought it was the babysitter's job.... *feels guilty*

Oh, yes, the handbag ad lib! Love.  And the way her face is like, "Oh cake what's my line? Quick! Spout nonsense!" for about a second before. Moments like that are a)what Improv classes are for and b)what makes theater so fun.

You'll have to keep in mind that it's the Denver pretrials you're watching, so some of the songs were removed/edited and lyrics were changed (as evidenced in act two with IWtGTB(r) which had different lyrics). For example Ursula's Her Voice (reprise) was removed even though it is awesome.

Yes, SRS totally stole the show. Hard not to, I suppose, as the role is almost *entirely* made up of ham and funny asides. To (shamelessly) quote Faith Prince, "Ursula, you know, you see her at the beginning and then she's just, maniacal at the end. Which is so much fun to just find those different levels. Different levels of evil and humor, and- she's just got the greatest asides, and- I think for the adults, she's... you know, they really connect to her, and the kids are [chuckles] very frightened of her, which is so much fun." So true.

Forget Scuttle's costume, there's a definite WTH going on with Flounders. A baggy *shirt* and some fins?! Really? There's also some chicken costumes for the made during the Beyond My Wildest Dreams sequence.

*cannot wait for the national tour next year*

Yes, and then for "Did I use some black magic? / Well, oopsie- my bad / Did I mutilate maim and destroy? / Just a tad" she had this innocent voice and these sort of well, what's wrong with that? gestures with her hands. The audience was cracking up.

I've never even heard Ursula's Her Voice reprise... I'll have to Goodsearch the lyrics.

"The kids are very frightened of her, which is so much fun"? *smirk*

Yes, and Flounder looked like he was about my sister's age... Was he?

...chicken costumes? o.O

Ursula's costume, on the other hand, is froody. /hitchhiker obsession

Is the nationwide tour one and the same with the show you're going to in Utah, or are they different?

Also, off-topic: Squee! NaNo starts in six hours squee!

Then of course there's the bit before that, with the dialogue and the pun (of doom). "Like an oyster, darlings, momma knows when she's been shucked..."

Her Voice (reprise) came right after If Only (quartet) and was only four lines/36 seconds long.

"Now at last my plan is on its way to its delectable conclusion/Only one more sunset and then finally I'll own the little beast/Soon I'll have my brother just exactly where I want him/And I'll be unstoppable as long as I have this!"

Faith Prince adds hastily, "And I'm a mother, so I love kids. But it's fun to scare one or two." Then of course there's what SRS said on the matter- "Every night, before I go on, I pray, 'Dear God, please let me scare the children. Amen. ...And that seems to work." *grin*

He was young, anyway.

And yes, chicken costumes. They looked like chickens. Therefore they are chicken costumes.

Ursula's costume is indeed amazing, especially the Souls one with the cape that she pops at the end. Love.

They are different and as it turns out I can't go because we have a choir concert thing that day. Foo. *glare* The national tour starts fall 2010. *excitement* *crosses fingers that either SRS or FP will reprise their roles*

*wanders back to NaNo*

Ugh. It was hard for me to hear any dialogue...

And it was to the same tune as HV? *has trouble envisioning that for some reason*

One or two? *counts siblings* ...how 'bout five? or so...

I will have to look at that... chicken costumes... interesting...

Ooh yeah, the Soul's outfit is very cool. <3

Aw, sorry. But I'd assume you're going to the national tour?

H'm, maybe if it's going to be in NY or PA once... Is there a list of cities on the Disney on Broadway website?

Stop rubbing it in that you can work regularly on your NaNovel and I can't because I'm in Missouri until Friday for my grandmother's funeral without access to any writing materials sans my NaNo Notebook of Doom... *pouts*

I really like any type of music expect country. It's not that I hate country it's just that is kind of boring. Even though I don't like country I do like Taylor Swift .

Taylor Swift gained major points with me when she swore off dating. She gained even more once I had a little more experience with that kind of thing...

(@Mary:)

I have to turn mine up super high for the dialogue and down again for the songs.

Yes, you know the part where he sings "I can here her laughter in the ripple of the waves... etc. etc."? That part. Only a little faster, I think. It's really quite creepy, and the eels are ooohing in the background.

The cape is epic. Apparently (Faith Prince says) it's very heavy, though.

Well, obviously I'm going to the tour. It'll probably be in Denver, or if not it'll definitely be in Chicago (and the Chicago theaters are amazing anyway), so... On a rather unrelated but not note, the national tour of Mary Poppins runs until next August... I love getting into obsessions in time to see the full-on Disney productions.

There isn't a list of cities yet that I know of, but I'm sure it'll come close to you. It's a national tour, after all; they want as many people to see it as possible. Start begging now. ;)

My parents get suspicious if I turn volumes on things up too high... Of course, when I'm home alone I can make things as loud as I want. XD

The eels were quite good in the version I was watching (or at least for IWtGTB, I didn't get much farther...). As I said above, very smarmy and good acting.

They did a pretty good job with all the tentacles for Ursula and the tails for the merpeople... before I was sort of wondering how they were supposed to walk around with the fins and all. On the other hand, though, Scuttle, and as you said, Flounder... But the way they made the scenes look like water was cool.

Yes, helping with cleaning around the house isn't only good for service hours for religion class... *formulates evil plot*

*glares* While I'm in Missouri I have to type everything on gmail... so stop gloating. ...Of course, I persuaded my aunt to do it...  on that note, I s'pose you have every right... *gloats also* *stops upon remembering the four-hour wake later today* *rambles*

The eels were amazing.

Disney costumes are always good, of course. Check out some of the Lion King costumes- they're absolutely gorgeous. And the Mary Poppins ones are very pretty too, even if they aren't nearly as outlandish (well, they are actually people in that one, I suppose...) Ditto their sets. Like the "water" in The Little Mermaid, combined with the lighting, that was insanely realistic. *nodnod*

Harder than singing in English, I mean. And I supposed if you could speak German it'd be a lot easier.
