Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Ski lodge: WinterWonderland

A crisp envelope, the color of cream with a picture of a swan on the seal, was in your palm. How you found it, you don’t remember, but you think it had something to do with ravens. An inky black feather was in your other hand.

Hesitating slightly, you flip the envelope over to the address side, but nothing was written on it besides the words, Seasonal Greetings! You turn it back over, and break the seal. Sliding the letter out, you unfold it and read:

To whom it may concern,

That was a good start, you decided. The letter was for anyone.

To whom it may concern,

We are writing this letter to invite you (whoever you may be) to our ski lodge in WinterWonderland. You can be one of the ten guests we will be accepting! Our mansion is suited for company, and yet it is empty! So we invite you to come!

There is lots to do here. Sledding, ice skating, snowball fights, and of course, skiing. We hope you can make it! All you have to do is fill out the form below.
*Yours cordially,

Swan and Raven

*No OC’s, AE’s, CAPTCHA’S, or pets. CBers only please! And as said above, TEN guests! Let it be noted that we are not responsible for lost items, paper cuts, or deaths.

Well, just skip right over autumn, why don’t you?! But still, it sounds interesting… You search your pockets for a pen as you set the separate form on a flat rock so you can fill it out.

I'm starting- but the next part won't be out until the 10th person joins.

Day one, Part one

A note appears in your hand. Surprised, you stop what you are doing, and unfold the white paper. There are two words- It’s time.

Just as you register the words, a northern wind hits you, and you disappear into a swirl of white.

Moon Wolf landed with a gasp in a snow drift. She sat still for a moment, shocked at the sudden cold, before scrambling to her feet. She dusted the white snow off of herself, then noticed there were nine other figures clambering out of snow drifts.

“Ha HA!” said a triumphant voice. “Look at me- I landed on my feet for once!”

Moon Wolf turned to the source of the voice, and found CelineBurningBright standing in a pose instead of brushing snow off.

“Yep,” she was saying, and she took a step forward. “I didn’t fall over, I didn’t land on my bottom-” the words had barely left her mouth when her foot hit a slick spot on the snow, and she fell back with a whump.

Moon Wolf smothered a giggle, and a few other of the figures laughed. Celine scrambled to her feet, smiling sheepishly. “I supposed I deserved that,” she chuckled.

Now the figures were all clear to see now, and Moon Wolf realized that they were all CBers. Moon Wolf recognized them all, including BookGirl, Silver Crystal, and GloomyBear, among others.

“I wish I was wearing warmer stuff,” amari shivered, hugging herself. “But there was no warning!”

“Yeah…” Moon Wolf looked around at the surrounding area more closely. They were all on a blank white tundra, stretching in all directions. She quite liked this scenery, but all the same, she couldn’t see any mansion, or somewhere to warm up.

“Oh!” Wildsong let out a gasp, and Moon Wolf jerked her head toward her. Her eyes widened.

A very large, ornate silvery gate had just materialized out of mid air. It stood, silent and tall and icy in the north breeze that had started.

The curious CBers approached it, and Moon Wolf laid a hand on one of the twisting bars. “Ouch!” she jerked back her hand. It was so cold, it burned.

“Suppose we just go around,” Gloomy suggested half-heartedly, and went to the side of the gates. She tried to walk past it, but once she was in line with the gates, it looked like she was walking in place.

“Um,” Moon Wolf started to say, but GloomyBear just rolled her eyes and came back to stand with the others.

Moon Wolf peered through the gate, but nothing besides the icy, white tundra greeted her. The wind was starting to blow harder, stirring up loose snow from the ground and making the CBers shiver more than ever.

Just as Moon Wolf was about to bury herself into the snow, there was a sound of tinkling bells, and the gate silently started to open.

On the other side, there was no snowy plain. Instead, a pine forest with snow was there. No wind blew. The sky on that side, instead of pale blue, was a soft gray.

“Come on!” said Celine eagerly, and she stepped through.

Moon Wolf quickly followed, and then the others. On the other side, the wind that had been growing on the other side vanished, and the air warmed slightly, despite the snow on the ground.

Once all the CBers went through, the gates swung shut, and everything was quiet. Then there was a loud “CAW CAW!”

Everyone looked up to a tree branch where a silky, black raven was perched. He cawed again, then turned tail and flew low in the trees.

“Let’s follow,” Moon Wolf suggested, and the others agreed. So, slipping slightly on the snow, they ran through the trees after the bird. After a while, just when most of them were starting to be out of breath, the trees stopped and they all burst into a clearing. Here, there was a stone path where snow had been swept away, and it led across a clearing to a Victorian looking mansion. It was all wooden, no paint added. There was a wrap-around porch at the bottom, and a tower was in one corner of the mansion. The roof had all sorts of windows and a few balconies, and the roof was all different heights. The icicles dripping off the edge of the roof gave it a gingerbread house look. Smoke curled from a chimney.

“Oh, I NEED to get in there,” Parody said with a sigh. The CBers glanced at each other, then, tripping over one another, hurried up to the porch and up the stairs to the front door.

Parody raised her fist to knock, but the door sprang open before she could, revealing a short hall with shoe racks and coat hangers. Moon Wolf hesitated briefly with the others, then followed Parody into the hall. She removed her soaking shoes, and then went to the end of the wood floored hall. She peered around the left corner, where there was a lovely living room, full of overstuffed armchairs and a few couches. A large Persian rug was before the fireplace, where a fire was crackling. Tall windows let in bright light, and there was a coffee table that had a tray of cookies and some mugs on it.

There was a set of stairs directly across from the hall, and there was a noise, and two girls hurried down them.

“Goodness!” one exclaimed. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t think the summons would work so well. This is our first time inviting anyone to Illusion.”

“Please, come into the living room and warm yourselves,” said the other. “There are cookies and warm drinks for all.”

Moon Wolf eagerly went and sat on the couch, Wildsong and amari joining her. Others perched on the armchairs, and Silver Crystal took a mug, her face content as she warmed her hands on the cup.

“Anyway, I’m Raven,” said the second girl. She was short, with spiky black hair and a smiling mouth. Her eyes were dark and merry, and she fluttered her hands, as if showing someone something, when she talked.

“And I Swan,” said the first. Swan was tall and willowy, with long blond hair, blue eyes and full lips. She had a certain grace about her, and she observed everyone with sharp eyes. “We welcome you to Winter Wonderland. We call this house the Gingerbread mansion, and you are welcome to do the same.”

“Thank you,” murmured some of the CBers. Moon Wolf shifted in her seat, feeling warmer than she had in ages. Her eyes flitted around the room, taking in the paintings of wintery scenes. Her eyes were drawn back to Swan as she started talking again.

“If you look in your pockets, you’ll find your raven feather.”

Surprised, Moon Wolf tucked her hand into her pants pocket and removed the glossy black feather. She had left it on the table in her house, last she remembered.

“You probably didn’t have it with you before,” Swan continued. “But now it will stay with you throughout your stay. It ensures that you belong here, and will make sure you are able to go anywhere in the property of Winter Wonderland. The feather will always be in your possession, so you can’t lose it. It will always appear back in your pocket, or, if you haven’t got one, it will appear in your hair, behind your ear, places like that.”

“Like how Percy Jackson’s sword always will appear back in HIS pocket as pen form if he loses it?” Celine asked with a smile.

“Exactly so,” Raven said, her eyes twinkling. “That’s where the idea comes from!”

Just then, there was a crashing sound above them, then the sound of pounding feet on the stairs. Twisting around, Moon Wolf saw a boy with freckles, wild brown hair and mischievous gray eyes bounce into the room. He had to be only eight, and when he looked around the room in delight he grinned, revealing his missing front teeth.

“Guests?!?” he said with obvious glee. “You guys didn’t tell me that there would be GUESTS coming!”

“Erm, no,” Raven’s smile lost some of the warmth. “I suppose it slipped from my mind. Everyone, this is Hawk. Hawk, you can meet some of them later. Did you finish cleaning your room?”

“Was never dirty!” he said cheerfully, which Moon Wolf took as a, “Of course I didn’t!”

“Well, alright,” Raven said. “Just keep out of the way of the guests for now.”

“Mm hm!” Hawk then bounced out of the room.

“Well,” Swan said. “He’s a handful. He shouldn’t bother you… too much.”

“Yes,” Raven grimaced. “I’ll be upstairs, making sure all of the rooms for y’all are in order. Eat! Drink! I’ll be down shortly.” And she left the room. Swan nodded, dipped herself into what kind of looked like a curtsy, and left the room as well. Moon Wolf blinked, then reached for a mug, and a cookie.
