Theatre!

Today, I tried out for my school musical, something I haven't done in the two years I've been at this school because of conflicts.  I've wanted to act for some time now, but had kind of accepted that I wasn't going to be able to act (it's so time consuming!).  Now I'm sitting here wondering what I've gotten into.  None of this feels real, it's a bit like a dream come true, but coming true when the dream's just starting to get stale, if you know what I mean.  Anyway, the musical is going to be Cinderella (<3 <3 Rodgers and Hammerstein) and I'm hoping I get some sort of principal role, though that is not likely at all.

Anyway, anyone else here in theatre?  I know you're out there, everybuggy!  What should I expect?  I've never been in a play other than the mandatory ones in elementary school...  What are some things you really enjoy about acting, etc.?

And just one more question, while I'm at it.  I'm in an orchestra, I play violin and piano, am in choir, about to be in a chamber music program, raise guide dogs (which means meetings), and am in various school clubs.  Am I crazy to be doing theatre?

I think it's good to try as many things as you possibly can while you're young. You never know which one(s) may turn into lifelong activities.

Theater- Does Shakespeare count?  If so, then I love theater.  I was in the Taming of the Shrew.  Yes, I know.  It is sexist.  It is sarcastic.  But i loved being in it- I was the Tailor.  "She says your worship means to make a puppet of her..."  I can still recite Lucentio's opening soliloquy.  My sister was Lucentio.  And the fact that this coincided with a huge fight with my best friend (she was Bianca) doesn't dim the happy memories...

Of course, Shakespeare counts!

I WAS IN THAT VERSION OF CINDERELLA LAST FALLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!! My school did the G2K ("getting to know") version of it and it was the first time I'd been able to audition because all the other musicals they had done in 6th and 7th grade performed while I was on a trip :P BOTH TIMES! I am SOOO glad I did! It was one of the the BEST things I've ever done! I played the Queen and got to wear these insane ballgowns and heels and crowns!! I haven't really done any acting besides that (lame-o elementary school plays don't count), but I reaaaally want to do more. Keep us updated on if you make it!!!

Guess what everyone?!  Cast lists just got put up today!  For three of the six performances, I am a Butcher/4 Women.  ALSO, I'm a non-performing understudy for the Fairy Godmother!!  I'm really, really happy with my parts, seeing as I haven't done any acting before at this school.  Yay!!!

@Mattie: Shakespeare certainly counts!  Last fall, my school did Kiss Me Kate, which is based off of The Taming of the Shrew. :)  Sounded like fun!

@Admin: Don't worry - no matter what happens, I will never give up violin.  It was the first thing I ever started and it has always been my main thing.  And thank you!

@Emma: It's funny, because my other friend named Emma is in the play with me. :)  Anyway, I bet the part of the queen was really fun!  I was kind of hoping I got that part, but the queen doesn't get to sing, right? (Correct me if I'm wrong.)  And I wouldn't have liked that.

We have an orchestra pops concert this Sunday, Leaf, and one of the things we're playing is a medley of music from Kiss Me Kate!

I was the fairy godmother's apprentice.  (an actual role with singing and everything)  We had to learn the waltz for it, and for some reason, when we did, I flapped my arms up and down like a bird,  XD
