This is unacceptable. I see Brielle being liftedinto the wheelchair.
I lean over to the nearest person– Sara's– ear. "Katie's a psycho."
Viola~
Rachel Flay, from the unpopular girly girl group (or dorks, as the popular girly girls so maturely call them), walks over to the table I sit at with Mellie and Booksy. "Speak," I say without looking up from my Cup O' Noodles.
"Katie's a psycho!" she tells us.
"Katie?" Booksy cries incredulously. "No, Katie is nice!"
"What qualifies you to make that assumption?" I ask Rachel. She looks at me sideways.
"She means, who told you you coud say that?" Mellie pipes in.
"I heard it from Lisa, who heard it from Sally, who heard it from Lucy, who heard it from Casey, who heard it from Gigi, who heard it from Sara, who heard it from Rianna!" Rachel clarifies triumphantly.
"I refuse to pass on this ridiculous rumor," I say, turning back to my lunch.
"But–"
"I refuse to pass on this ridiculous rumor. End of conversation. Goodbye."
Rachel makes a "Hmph!" sound and walks away. Poor Katie. Rumors travel fast in this school. Even if we refuse, Rachel is not going back. She's going to find someone who hasn't heard it yet, and most likely THEY will pass it on. There will be murmurs about it in the halls by tomorrow.

I feel sick. Everyone stares at me as I walk down the hall, clutching my books to my chest. I hang my head so my bangs cover my eyes instead of resting on my glasses. Suddenly a hand grabs my arm and pulls me to the side. I look up to find myself amidst my friends. "Katie! What happened? Are you all right?" I nod while Paige, Erin, and Willow hug me all at once. "
"How about a sleepove at gramps this Friday? I'll explain then."
They seem to like this idea and nod. "We'd better get to our classes then," Paige says.
Willow, Paige, and I depart for art. (Does Erin too?) We enter the clas room and take our seats.
I can see Paige almost exploding with joy when the teacher announces the ceramics we will do. I would rejoice, but I'm really not in the mood. I feel the teacher's eyes fall on me as I hang my head. They quickly move though and he continues speaking,
Johnston~
I listen to my teacher explain when people first started woodworking. It's quite interesting in fact, but from the looks on the other students faces they just want to start.

I know exactly what Vi's thinking.
"We gotta help Katie. This is NOT going to go well!" I declare. "Now, any ideas?"
"W-we can't do anything! The Bee and Rhino will send rumours after us!" Booksy replies.
"You afraid of those starbucks loving worms. Now, ideas?" I turn to Vi.
"Well…"
-
Booksy OwlyParticipant"OK. I can't watch Katie suffer. I'm in it if you are." I surrender.
"Now we've just got to come up with some way…" Viola begins.
"First off, we've got to get to know Katie some more," I interrupt.

"All I care about is graduating from college at least magna cum laude. They can't take THAT away. Now, girls like them– their MOST important ideal is a tie between perfect appearance and reputation."
Mellie and Booksy nod. "Go on," Mellie prompts.
"So if we take those away, they'll be mortified. But we cannot let it get traced back to us. Also, Starbucks is a nice place. It has coffee, pastries and internet connection. Now let's get plotting."
Rianna~
I run into the hospital during lunch break.
"OMG, Brielle! Are you, like, OK?" I ask.
"Ohh…" she moans. "My head hurts!"
"That Katie, she's, like, a psycho! And that hospital gown…"
"I know! It's a fashion CRIME. You have to get back at Katie!"
"There are, like, rumors going around, which I, like, started."
"What do the rumors say?"
"Only the truth. That Katie's, like, a psycho. ALL the kids will, like, hate her now."
"Awesome."
"Well, lunch break is, like almost over. I have to, like get to class. Oh. Also, my dad's a, like, lawyer. We'll pull some strings."

After lunch, I make my way back to my locker, holding my sketchbook. I'm not looking where I'm going as I shade in a fox, and I slam right into someone. I drop my sketchbook and papers fly everywhere.
"Sorry- sorry-" I gasp, paling as I realize who it is.
Rianna looms over me. "I've been bumped into twice in one day! That's it!"
I realize I'm lying down and she's standing up. I also realize most of the school has come to watch.
"It was an accident," I whisper. Her foot comes down and I roll out of the way. "Come on. Please stop."
The audience is waiting with bated breath as I stand up. She raises her fist, and then something catches Rianna's eye.A drawing.
Oh. No.
She picks it up. "Is Brielle getting a concussion funny to you?"
I stay silent, my face flaming up."Is it?"
She had it coming to her, I want to say. She deserves it, and so do you. Now back off and leave me alone!But I don't say anything. I stand there, paralyzed….
*This scene has been removed as it may be quite violent.*

Gigi and I walk out of Science together. Gigi is complaining to me about not having a good alarm clock when a girl from the Girly Girl Unpopular group comes up to us. I remember her- I was friends with her a few years ago, back in elementary school. She tries to stay friends with me, ish, now that I'm in the Squad. "Hey, Kat." I reply, "Hey . . . Kari, right?" She nods. "Have ya heard?" I shake my head. "Brielle had to go to the HOSPITAL," she whispers, making her gray-green eyes go wide. "She has a CONCUSION from being hit by that door." Gigi cuts in: "Seriously?! Like, OMG!!" I gape at Kari. "You're kidding." She shakes her head, smiling slightly. "No, it's true. I saw it, myself. With my own two eyes." I pause. We've reached my locker. I twirl the lock and open it up, dumping my stuff inside. Gigi and Kari pause too. "So does this mean you'll be willing to hang out with me on Friday?" she asks, hopefully. I shrug. "Maybe." Kari's a nice kid, and we were good friends two years ago. Why not catch up on old times? But Gigi is looking at me unhappily, so I shoo her off saying something about needing to go. She races off. Gigi frowns slightly, so I quickly draw her attention back to the gossip. "I can't BELIEVE Katie would do that! Katie's annoying and all, but . . . " Gigi shakes her head. "Some of the other girls are quite capable of mean things. Like, some of the Nerdettes (the Squad's name for the smart girls) call Brielle Bee, and then they call Riana Rhino. It's so stupid!" We've reached her locker now. I wait as she puts her things away. "So, what do you want to do now?" I ask. -

Nora the SingerParticipant.:Brielle:.
After a few more minutes of my dad's inescapable paranoia over my concussion, a nurse eventually enters the room, dressed in pink scrubs and uneven lipstick. She flashes a toothy smile at me, like that's supposed to make me feel better.
"How are you holding up, Brielle? Can I get you anything?" she questions while fluffing my pillows and adding another lead-heavy quilt to the pile already on me. "Your blood sugar is a little low, so maybe some juice would be good?"
I try to shrug, although the task is deemed impossible due to the fact that I'M BURIED IN THESE STUPID BLANKETS. "I only drink coconut water."
"That can be arranged." Another grin. She bustles out of the room, yanking the curtains closed behind her. I loll my head back and sigh dramatically.
"Dad. When are they going to let me out of this freak show? I need to get back to school," I complain, daydreaming about Andy.
"Princess, it's already noon. And even if you did get to leave the hospital early, I doubt they'd allow you to go back to school today, or even tomorrow. You need to rest at home. I'm taking off work for the rest of the week."
"What about the slumber party on Saturday?" I wail. "Kat's bringing her cupcakes, and Gigi promised French manicures!"
"I'm sure you can still have your party," Dad reassures me. "Today's Monday, so you'll have plenty of time to recover before then."
The curtain is whisked open again, and the nurse from before carries a small tray over to my cot and places it gently on the side table. I crane my neck over to see what's there – a tall bottle of coconut water, two cookies, and an unexpected surprise.
"Someone sent you this bouquet of flowers," the nurse beams. "Let me know if you need anything else." I curiously snatch the accompanying note from the bouquet as soon as she leaves.
It's two single letters, in handwriting that seems to be messy but neat at the same time:
A.C.
Andy Cressman. I fight the urge to squeak with happiness.
"Who's it from?" Dad wants to know.
"No one," is my hasty response. I tuck the note underneath my napkin and admire the gorgeous flowers. Snow-white lilies and powder pink roses. How did he know those were my favorite?
-
KatydidParticipantKatie~
I run into the nurses office along with Paige and Willow. "Erin!!" We all squeal at once. She is lying on a cot, propped up with a couple pillows. Her arm is in a cast and her nose appears to be broken, not to mention her black eye. "What happened??" I ask. We rush over to her.
"Rianna saw my picture."
Willow groans. "What?" I ask.
"Its on the table." Erin says.
I turn to look. On the table is a picture of me kicking a door in a cartoon Brielle's face. "Oh." I turn around,"Is that all?"
"I bumped into Rianna."
Me, Paige, and Willow groan. "Will you be okay? What happened to Rianna?"
"She's in containment." That is what we call the principle's office. "I am going to go home and rest, i might be at school tommorow…I'm not sure."
I grasp the hand of her unbroken arm. "I hope you get better soon. I'll pray for you. Wait.." I turn to the other girls. "Should we pray right now?" They nod, "Willow…will you start?" (If the prayer part is okay with you guys. Not sure about that)
We set hands on Erin, the nurse watches with admiration in her eyes. "Dear Lord," Willow starts, "Please heal our friend. Let us resolve our differences with Brielle and Rianna with no more violence."
There is a long pause then Paige starts, "Dear Lord, give Erin a full recovery. So she can come back to school and even make the sleepover we planned." Erin smiles at that.
I start, "Dear Lord, please bless Erin and give her a fast recovery with no pain. Please help us to love our enemies, no matter what harm they bring to us, and to maintain strong, setting an example for others, and hopefully Brielle and Rianna." I nod and we all say, "Amen."
Erin leans her head back against the wall, "Thank you. I feel better already." The bell rings.
"Oh, Erin, the art teacher is letting you tryout, if you want to, whenever you are ready. We had better get to class, but get better soon."
My tryout was for art, i basically drew a picture and turned it in. Willow and Paige say good bye to Erin and we leave. I notice something written down on the notepad the nurse was holding. It looks like our prayer? I squint, is that Brielle's name after the dear? My thought are inturupted by the tardy bell. I exit the nurse's office and scurry toward my next class, language arts. I enter the classroom and a thought hits me like a brick, Is Brielle spying?
Johnston~
I heard about the whole ordeal with Rianna and Erin. It sounds pretty gruesome, i hope she is okay. I don't really do a sports tryout. I just do my sports, football, soccer, and baseball, and my coaches judge me along with the other players.
"Hey!" Jason calls.
I turn to find him right behind me, "Oh! Hey."
"Have you heard about Erin?"
"Yeah! It sounds terrible!"
"I hope she is okay."
"Me too."
"So many people getting hurt today…"
"At least my sister only got slapped…"
"Yeah. She probably feels so bad about Brielle though."
"Totally! She wouldn't hurt a creature that isn't game of some sort."
Jason laughs, "Brielle and Rianna sound like really tough game."
Now i laugh, "Well, off to class i suppose! Bye!" I wave and rush off down the hall. I enter my classroom and sit down at a desk. The Tardy bell rings, juuuust in time.

I can't believe that Katie did that! She seems nice enough, but now… I'm not so sure. I mean, Bri's in the hospital. The HOSPITAL! That's a bit much to be on accident. Me and Katie are going to send her a care package. I bought a mini nail polish kit for her, Riana bought her a new dress she'd been wanting, and Kat made her some crissounts. Andy asked us what her fave flowers were… he's so sweet! They'll be a perfect couple when they get together. Kat still thinks Katie didn't do it, but I'm convinced. She's SOO gonna be expelled when we get done with her…
WILLOW
Katie's really scared now, and it seems like the situation is getting serious… I just know that this will be all out war. And all's fair in love and war… supposedly. On the bright side, this morning I found out what part I got in drama. I rushed over to the bulletin board, where there was a crowd waiting. I pushed through, with Katie, Erin, and Paige lagging behind me. "What's it say?" Erin asked. They couldn't see, there were too many people in front of them. "It says here there will be six plays and three casts. We're doing Shrek the Musical. In the first cast I am the… Wicked Witch. Good! I like her. In the second cast I am… the Dragon. Yay! In the third cast… OH MY GOSH!! IN THE THIRD CAST I'M FIONA!!!" I start squealing and jumping up and down, unusual behavior for me. Some kids start giving me wierd looks, and I stop. But I'm still really excited! I got the lead role! My friends smile and congratulate me.
ANDY
I can't believe Katie would do something like that… That's so mean! I sent flowers to Brielle… I hope she likes me.

Nora the SingerParticipant.:Brielle:.
I clink the now-empty coconut water bottle back down on the tray and pass the dish of chocolate chip cookies to my dad. Concussion or no concussion, I'm not about to binge on junk food. Plus, chocolate gives you acne.
"What time is it now?" I gripe.
"About 12:30. Hang in there, darling," Dad encourages.
I roll my eyes.
Okay, that was a really bad idea.
"Oh my gosh, stop spinning…make it stop…" The dizziness is more than I can handle. I squeeze my eyes shut tightly, but that untethered feeling is still lingering.
"DOCTOR!" Dad screams unnecessarily. "WE NEED A DOCTOR!"
The curtain is shoved aside yet again. "What's the situation?" A concerned Dr. Foreman is next to the cot in a heartbeat, lifting my wrist and feeling for a pulse.
"I'm alive, thank you very much," I snarl, yanking my hand away. "And I'm completely fine." Not true, but I've got to get out of here somehow.
"You were dizzy two seconds ago!" Dad insists.
"I was not."
"You told me to stop spinning, and I've been sitting still in this chair for the past two hours."
"Brielle?" Dr. Foreman raises his eyebrows. "Is there anything I should know about?"
"No," I assert. "When do I get to go home?"
"Well, by the looks of it, not for a while," he observes.
"Are you serious right now?" Despite the fact that it's like I have a migraine, except the feeling is amplified a million times worse, I'm in great shape. Well…okay, everything sounds louder for some reason. And the light hurts my eyes. A lot. But other than that.
"For one thing, your blood sugar levels are dropping rapidly. Which explains the dizziness you've been experiencing," Dr. Foreman explains. "It's a common symptom for concussions, but could become worse if left untreated."
"This is ridiculous," I declare.
He ignores that. "How are you feeling now?"
Lightheaded. Unsteady. Dysfunctional. "All better."
"Huh. You sure about that?"
"Yeah," I respond slowly, drawing out the word as if I'm speaking to a kindergartener. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"Honey." Dad reaches out and strokes my hair. Suddenly all of the energy I normally would have to push him away seems to drain out. "Everything will be okay. You don't have to cry."
I almost laugh, but somehow I can't. I lie there numbly with no words to say. I'm Brielle Fawn. I don't cry. But when Dad lightly dabs a tissue at my eyes, the tear splotches that soak through tell me I am.
It's weird, really, since there's nothing to be crying about.
I hadn't even realized that I was.

We now see a softer side of Brielle! Sorry that wasn't particularly exciting. I'll do more later.

School is almost out. I watch the clock nervously, something unusual for me. The bell finally rings, i grab my books and rush out of class.
I sit down on the bus next to Willow. Paige sits in front of us, Andy and Christoff behind on the other side, and Johnston and Jason right next to us on the other side. The first question is asked by Willow, "Katie, what happened? Were you really that mad?"
I shake my head and sigh, "I was mad, thats why i kicked the door, but i had no idea Brielle was on the other side." Everyone lets out a sigh of relief.
Andy asks, "So you didn't mean to?"
"No. Will you tell her i'm sorry?"
He seems suprised by this, "O-okay?"
Me and Willow usally get off at the same spot, but i have flute lessons today, so i get off at the first stop. "Bye!" I say to my friends, then i get off the bus and walk to my teachers house.
Johnston~
I knew it was an accident…well…maybe. I get off at the third stop instead of the sixth, due to piano lessons. I walk to my teachers house and begin my hour lesson.

Gigi, Riana and I meet up in the halls to talk about what to do for Bri.
"I still can't believe Katie did it," I say.
Riana shakes her head. "Katie may seem sweet, but she's a devil inside."
I shrug, not wanting to pick a fight.
"We should do a care package!" Gigi exclaims.
"I'll get her that dress she wanted!"
"I'll give her a nail polish kit!" Gigi adds.
"I'll make her some croissants!" I declare. Bri likes croissants because of the fact they're icingless, sugarless, not at all fattening, but delicious and classy.
Andy comes up. "Hey, you're Brielle's friends, right?"
We all nod. "So, you know what her favorite flowers are, right?"
"'Course," Gigi says. "She likes lilies."
"And," Riana adds, "Roses."
"But not dark colored ones," I say. "They have to be pink. Light pink."
Riana nods. "Powder pink."
He smiles at us. "Kay, thanks." He hurries off.
Gigi whispers, "He and Bri will make such a cute couple!"
We all giggle.
The bell rings. Riana and I head to the bathrooms to change for P.E. (Only losers change in the locker room in front of everyone, Riana says.) Somehow, Riana makes the gym shorts and t-shirt look good on her. We walk to P.E.
-
Nora the SingerParticipant.:Brielle:.
Since my mascara has migrated so far down my cheeks that I look like I just stepped out of a horror movie, Dr. Foreman gives me permission to get up and wash my face in the adjoining bathroom.
"Careful," he reminds me as I begin to break myself free from the layer of blankets. "Slow and steady wins the race." He holds his arms out just in case, like I'm a four-year-old jumping into the pool for the first time.
"I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of a bed." The floor is cold against my bare feet when I hop down.
"Brielle, don't – !" Dr. Foreman warns, but it's already too late. My head whirls, and I start to stagger around woozily like a rotting zombie. Which is probably appropriate for the situation, considering the fact that my face is dripping in black.
" – move so fast," he falters. "Your body isn't used to so much motion yet. We have to take baby steps."
"No kidding," I murmur, unable to figure out where I'm going. All that's in front of me is a mess of multicolored blobs. But I smile at Dr. Foreman anyway. "Nope. I feel great, actually."
"Brielle, I'm over here." The voice originates from the side opposite of the one I'm talking to. Mental face-palm.
"Totally knew that." I force a laugh and spin around. "So, uh, where's that bathroom?"
"Next to you." Right. I wave casually, as if to say, "Toodeloo," and open the door closest to me.
"There you go. Call if you need any help!" Dr. Foreman's voice fades as I slip into the bathroom…well, okay, it's not as graceful as that sounds. It's more like I stumble blindly. Yeah, more like that.
The icy cold water splashing onto my face is by far the most refreshing thing I've encountered all day. I massage around my eyes, removing the stray makeup, and dry off with a fluffy white towel hanging from a silver rack. Nice bathroom, for a hospital.
Finally, I can sort of see again. I know the girl in the mirror is me, but I don't want to believe it. Her face is teary, reddened, and broken. That girl isn't Brielle Fawn.
So I walk away from the mirror, telling myself I have the power to walk away. I can do whatever I want. I'm Brielle Fawn. Me.
"Any better?" Dr. Foreman prompts as I stomp out in a huff. "I'll take that as a no?"
"Where's my dad?" I drill my eyes into the deserted chair.
He hesitates, and then continues to speak from where he left off. "Do you want any more coconut water? We have plenty in the – "
"Where's my dad?" I repeat.
He doesn't answer.

Luckily, my arm wasn't really broken, and I heal fast. I'm able to come back to school the next day, but I hurt all over.I manage to draw my picture for the art tryouts- it isn't the best I can do, but it's OK. The theme this year is Famous Artisists, and I used Van Gogh's Starry Night as mine. It was basically the Solar System, but with the backround of the sky in the original picture. I call it Starry Space.
((Sorry it's so short, I can't think of anything to do….)

Mom and dad pick me and Johnston from our lessons. They are all dressed up, my dad in a nice shirt, my mom with a nice hairdo. They never get dressed up..unless.. "Are we going out to eat?"
"Yes dear."
"Why? We never go out to eat unless you are going to tell us something important like.." I pause. Last time we went out mom and dad told us grandma died. We left the resturant in tears. "Last time…"
Mom sighs, "Lets eat, then we wil break the news."
I gulp, break is never good. Me and Johnston share a look and we ride the rest of the way to the resturant in silence.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our food arrives and we eat, i explain to mom and dad the events of the day.
"Well, I hope Erin gets better soon," my mom says.
"Amen," my father says.
I take a bite of my burger. "So whats the news?" Johnston asks.
"Well," my mom and dad share a look,"We are moving."
"Thats not so bad…to a new house?" I ask.
"To Hawaii," my dad says.
Suddenly I don't feel hungry anymore, my jaw drops. "W-when..?" Johnston asks, putting down his sandwhich.
"Well," mom starts, "your father and I are going to leave this friday. You kids will join us at the end of the school year."
"Mom….can Erin, Paige, and Willow still spend the night with me at Grandpa's?"
She nods, "In fact, we have already planned it."
"OKay…"
Johnston~
So it's settled..we are moving… I feel mad, sad, lost…all at the same time. We arrive at home, Katie asks to go for a walk with Willow. Mom and dad say yes, she leaves the house and walks toward Willlow's house. I go up to my room and change into bed clothes. I wash my face and brush my teeth, then sit down at my desk to do homework.
I finish with a sigh, turn my light off, and get under my covers. I turn my music on, Bach tonight, and close my eyes. I think through the events of the day. Rianna, Brielle, Erin, and now this!
JossParticipantWILLOW
"Willow? Willow? Willow!" My mom is shaking me. I wake up with a start. "Wha- wha- what happened?" My mom smiles. "You fell asleep. I stare at my desk. It's covered in drool. I guess I'm not the cleanest sleeper… My desk is covered in papers and my computor is covered in files. I click open the movie maker. My latest project-a few clips of my greatest acting roles. Me in Alice in Wonderland as Alice, in The Music Man as Zaneeta Shinn, in Wizard of Oz as Dorothy, and so on. And soon I'll add Shrek the Musical as Fiona, and then I'll send it in for tryouts for Drama elective.
KatydidParticipantKatie~
I knock on Willow's door. Her dad answers after a few moments, "Yes? Oh, hello Katie."
"Hi. Can Willow come with me for a walk?"
He looks at his watch, "I guess…let me get her." He disappears in the house and i hear him call Willow's name. She shows up at the door, ready to go.
"Where we going?"
"Hmm..just walking I guess."
"Huh."
She closes the door behind her and we set out, talking about the events of school. After we finish what happened with Erin and what we think about it we stop talking all together. 'Willow?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm moving…" She stares at me, then I add, "to Hawaii."
She stops and turns to face me, "What?!? When!?!"
"Mom and dad are leaving this Friday; Johnston and I will join at the end of this school year."
"Oh Katie…" Willow pulls me into a tight hug. I hug her back. "What will you tell Paige and Erin?"
"I'll tell them at the sleepover, which is still happening by the way."
"Ah.." She steps back and turns around, heading back to her house. "What…why?"
"Well..Mom got a new job. She needs to start soon so that's why she is leaving now. Dad is going with her to start building a house. Johnston and I will stay at Gramps.
"That's a long time to live on a ranch…"
"A long time away from my parents," I point out.
"Yeah." She sighs and sticks her hands in her pockets. "I'll miss you."
I put my arm around her shoulder. "And I you. For all we know maybe Mom will lose the job…or she won't like it..or…I don't know."
"Well, maybe you will come back."
"Maybe." We spend the rest of the walk in silence. When we arrive at Willow's house we hug and she goes inside. I walk to my house, not far away, and look up at the stars. I have been fascinated with stars as long as I can remember. The stars don't show up so much in the city as they do on Grampa's farm. I enter my house and lock the door behind me. The lights are off and Mom and Dad are in bed. I hang my coat up and head upstairs, as quietly as possible. I change into my pajamas then wash my face in my bathroom. I sit on my bed and read my devotions. After finishing I lie down and stare at my ceiling. It's a pretty realistic painting of the stars. Not the view of the stars from the earth. But from space, with all the different galaxies and stars, colors too. I sigh, Lord, help me through this time of hardship. Help me to be able to get through this without any problems. Oh, and bless Erin. I close my eyes, the picture on my ceiling still in my head. Why? Is the repeating question in my head. Repeating untill I fall asleep.
