New Part! -LughGuestDay One, Part Four
“Wow, talk about temperature change,” Hawkstar shouted into the wind as Lugh’s convertible whipped into the deep green of Summer. Amethyst nodded beside her, finally able to bring her arms away from cradling herself from the cold. Lugh had been driving faster than Mabon had, and the cool air of Autumn had become quite cold. Lugh himself seemed immune to the wind.
Amethyst now took her hands and contained her wild hair that was flying around in the wind. Hawkstar didn’t quite have the same problem as her, her hair shorter.
“Everyone good back there?” Lugh shifted his rearview mirror to look at them.
“Mostly!” Hawkstar called back.
Lugh slowed as they broke out of the forest and into more sparse trees with cow-dotted fields. “Sorry if I was going a bit too fast, just wanted to get back into the WARM!”
And it was warm. Amethyst lifted her face to the bright sun, closing her eyes to the light. She gave a shout of laughter, simply because she could.
“Music, anyone?” Lugh reached for the car console, clicking on the radio.
“Sure!” Amethyst was always down for some music. Hawkstar nodded in agreement.
Lugh rolled up the windows of the car to block more of the wind (“Why didn’t I think of that?” Hawstar rolled her eyes at herself) and found a station that was clear of static. Can’t Stop The Feeling spilled out of the speakers with its peppy beat. Lugh started to sing along and slipped a pair of sunglasses over his eyes, turning back to grin at the two girls. They exchanged a glance and bit their lips in order not to laugh. Lugh was just so carefree.
“He actually has a good voice, though,” Hawkstar said thoughtfully to Amethyst as the car stopped at a four-way stop sign.
“True,” Amethyst took advantage of the stop and secured her hair more tightly in her hands.
The rest of the ride was uneventful, and soon they were slowing even further, turning off into another long drive to the right. Evenly spaced trees lined the driveway, stopping when it became a round-a-bout. Lugh looped around it and parked under the shade of a large oak to the left of his place. He killed the engine and got out, music fading away. He opened the left door with a charming smile. “Ladies.”
Hawkstar slid out, and Amethyst opted to get out on her side. She shook her now messy hair away from her face, looking up at the House of Summer. It was a two story house that had a mix of a farmhouse and Victorian style to it. Painted a light blue with white trim, it had a wrap around porch, with plenty of bench swings and rocking chairs. They were on the left side of the house, but there were stairs leading up to it here too. A pile of golden fluff seemed to be lying there, but then it raised its head, and Amethyst realized it was a dog.
“Yep, House of Summer! I just love this place, obviously, and I’m certain you guys will too.” Lugh came to stand next to Ametyst, Hawkstar on his other side.
“It’s really nice,” she said fervently.
“Why thank you,” Lugh was pleased. “Oh, and that is Litha. She is simply the best dog there is out there.Very friendly. Golden retriever. Her brother, Lammus, is somewhere around here… probably down at the dock.”
The golden furred animal was now trotting over, tail swinging happily. She reached Lugh and shoved her head into his hand, giving a soft whine. “That’s my girl,” Lugh said, scratching behind her ears.
“Very sweet,” Amethyst observed with a smile as Lithia came to greet her, and then Hawkstar.
“Indeed,” Lugh said, and started to stride forward on the green grass to the house. “Now, nothing here is off-limits! Take your pick of your space- master bedroom, normal bedroom with a window seat,” he raised his eyebrows at that temptation, “couch in the living room, hammock down at the dock, tent at the campground, or tree house.” He pointed upwards to the giant oak. Craning her neck, Amethyst could now see a large tree house resting in the branches far above, a rope ladder dangling down to the ground.
“Or, you know, all of those! There’s time, plenty of it.”
“Down at the dock?” Hawkstar wanted to know.
“Oh yeah, there’s a lake out back there.” He waved vaguely pass the oak tree. “And no need to worry about needing a buddy to swim there or whatever! Oceanus is always on lifeguard duty. After Posiden took over as King of the Ocean and whatnot, I totally invited Cean over here to hang out, great place for retirement. He still likes to keep a bit busy, so I set him up, got him in charge of everything down there at the lake. The least I could do, he’s a great man. God? Titan? Whatever. Anyway.” He flashed his charming smile at the two, standing still in surprise.
“Oceanus?” Hawkstar said faintly.
“Yeah. He generally goes by Cean now-a-days, though. Spelled with a C, but you say it like Sean.”
Hawkstar slowly shook her head. “An ancient Titan as a lifeguard. Why not.”
“Thaaaat’s the spirit! Now come on! Let’s get you both situated. Are you sleeping in the house tonight or should we wander the property?”Present: WildWolf, Lonan Fable, Thalorwin, Amethyst, Amity, Moon Wolf, Hex, Hawkstar, Poinsettia, Seadragon (10)

New Part, everyone! ~ YuleGuestDay One, Part Five
“Thank you for being such great passengers,” Santa winked at the group of four as he put his mini van into reverse. “And be good!” He drove out of the driveway with a jolly laugh.
“Bye!” Yule put her hands on Seadragon’s and Moon Wolf’s shoulders briefly, smiling. “And let’s get you three out of the cold! There’s plenty of time for outside activities… with the proper wear on!”
Hex pulled their arms around themself tighter. It was bitterly cold out, standing on the steps of House of Winter. There was no snow currently, but the clouds that had rolled in looked as though they promised flakes. A sharp wind stung everyone’s faces.
They turned and followed the others up the short flight of stairs that led to the small entryway porch. The house itself wasn’t quite a mansion, though it gave that vibe. Three stories and a bit spralling, it was the kind of place you’d see in one of those fancy neighborhoods where everyone was quite obviously well-off. Woods surrounded the place, with a twisting oak quite close by. Short evergreens grew around the House of Winter, the branches tipped in silver.
Under the cover of the roof on the small porch, Yule was standing at the narrow double doors that had windows with frost-looking designs on them. She was unlocking the doors, and then pushed them both open.
“Usually, Solstice is home, but she’s…” Yule trailed off, tapping her finger to her lips. “She’s… somewhere. I’ve forgotten.” She gave a swift glance towards the CBers behind her and then ushered them out of the cold. “Anyway, you’ll meet her when she’s back. She’s my soul sister, meaning we aren’t born of the same blood, but we are related in ways of magic. She’s just a darling, you’ll love her. I think she told me she’d make some lunch before she left. Let’s see what it is.”
Inside, there was a low ceilinged entry way, with hooks for hanging jackets and a place for boots and shoes. Passing these, the ceiling rose, the carpet floor turned to white tile. A sweeping staircase was just ahead, breaking off in two directions a little ways up. Two open doorways lead under the split stairs, cheery light spilling out from both of them. A chandelier hung in the center of the large space.
“Wowzers,” Hex couldn’t help saying.
Yule was already to the left doorway, and she turned back to see the CBers gawking at the expensive space. “Oh! I’m glad you like it. That chandelier was given to me by Jack. He’s quite the artiste, isn’t he?” she winked.
“Jack… Frost?” Seadragon asked.
“Yes! I’m sure you’ve seen some of the patterns he’s whipped up. Very original, he is.”
Hex wondered just how many wintery myths they would discover to be real on this trip.
They followed Yule through the doorway. This room was also very large, but despite its roomy-ness, it was also very cozy. An enormous fireplace stood on the left wall, built from rocks that reminded Hex of geodes that weren’t broken open. A crackling fire sparked in the hearth, sending floods of warmth around the place. Floor to ceiling windows spread on either side of the fireplace, almost defeating the purpose of the fire, but no cold air seemed to be coming from them.
A large couch spread out in front of the fire, smaller chairs closing the semi-circle. A low table stood in the center of them. On the right wall, bookcases spread the entire length, mostly filled with books, but Hex could see one dedicated to CDs and DVDs, and another filled with games. This was obviously the House of Keeping-Winter-Bordem-At-Bay.
Another doorway in the corner of the right and far wall led into what Hex assumed was the dining room. They could see a round table that sat at least six from where they stood. Yule was just disappearing through it. She poked her head back in and said, “Sit down, warm up! I’ll go to the kitchen.”
Hex wandered over to the couch and fluffed up a pillow before flopping down. They stretched back, yawning, and glanced at the fireplace. The fire was enchanting to watch, flickering and jumping with flames. Dancing and twirling… Hex leaned forward, staring hard at the fire. Sure enough, the flames were actually dancing. They stood and walked over to the hearth, dropping to their knees in front of it. Small figures, no taller than Hex’s thumb were skipping over the logs. They looked vaguely humanoid, with pointed little faces and waving hair, feet and hands all over the place in their fast paced dance. Hex tried to count them, but they were all over the place, and moved quickly.
“Ah, you’ve found the fire sprites!” Hex dropped back on their heels and looked behind them at Yule, who had re-entered the room, carrying three full trays. They lept to their feet to go help her, Moon Wolf and Seadragon already at her side. The three CBers took a tray each and put them on the coffee table.
“Fire sprites?” Moon Wolf prompted Yule once the trays were placed, curious. She had been over at the bookshelves, so wouldn’t have noticed what Hex had been observing.
“Yes,” Yule was crouched by the fire, smiling. “They keep the fire always burning. They love to dance, see.”
Seadragon and Moon Wolf went beside Yule, exclaiming over the little sprites. Hex, meanwhile, was looking happily over the small feast before them. One tray held drinks, still steaming mugs with what smelled like hot chocolate and some sort of tea. Another tray held an assortment of sandwiches with small bowls of soup, and the last was almost overflowing with cookies and a few other baked goods. How Yule had managed to carry it all at once was beyond Hex.
“Looks good, right?” Yule was smiling now at Hex, and she stood to go sit on one of the armchairs, crossing her legs.
“Amazing,” Hex said. “Solstice really must be a good chef.”
“Indeed,” Yule hummed. “Go ahead!”
And so the three CBer’s dug into the meal, making noises of contentment. Soon, the trays were empty of most of the food. Hex took the last sip of their drink and gnawed on what they promised themselves would be the last cookie. A moment later, Hex had finished and pouted at the last few treats left over. They felt bursting full, but reached and grabbed another treat anyway.
“That was really, really good,” Seadragon admitted from her position on the floor.
“I’m glad that you all enjoyed it,” said a soft voice from the doorway to the entry hall. Everyone twisted to see who had spoken.
“Solstice!” Yule got up from her chair and went over to the woman, hugging her tight. “Welcome back. Guys, this is Solstice.” She walked over with her. “And these are our guests here at Winter; Moon Wolf, Seadragon, and Hex.”
Hex waved at Solstice. She was very petite, and her hair was so blonde it was almost white, tumbling gracefully over her shoulders and past her hips. She was quite pale, with thin lips but warm brown eyes. She had on a gray coat that hung to her knees. She gave everyone a small smile, but it reached her eyes truthfully. Her appearance alone was the complete opposite of Yule, but Hex could see how they could be soul sisters. They seem to both have the same grace and heart about them.
Moon Wolf cleared her throat and gave a nod. “Yeah. It was really good. Is there anything we could help with?”
Yule gave a sparkling laugh and shook her head. “No, no! You are our guests. Relax, enjoy yourselves! We appreciate the offer, of course.” She glanced around the room, and gave a small jump as if she’d remembered something. “Oh, I have to go and print up the activities that will be available to everyone throughout their stay. Feel free to explore the house or whatever you’d like! Bedrooms are upstairs, both on the second and third floor. Take your pick!” Yule turned to leave when something dinged in Solstice’s bag.
Frowning, Solstice pulled out an older flip phone and then handed it to Yule. She took it, glanced at the screen, and then put it to her ear. “Yes? Oh! Alright, yeah, go pick them up and drop them off.” She wandered away, listening to whoever was on the other line.
“I’ll be in the kitchen,” Solstice said softly, slipping off her jacket. “My happy place.” She gave another small smile and swept from the room.
There was a small gap of silence, then Hex stood. “Well. What shall we do?”Present: WildWolf, Lonan Fable, Thalorwin, Amethyst, Amity, Moon Wolf, Hex, Hawkstar, Poinsettia, Seadragon, Virtue (11)
