Sally plunked down on the bench next to Lisa and watched the sorting begin. She watched as Scorpius went to Slytherin, Lucy Pederson went to Hufflepuff, and Bella Hendrickson went to Gryfindor. She wasn't very interested though, and was anxious for the feast to start. The only one who she really wanted to see sorted was the newest Potter boy. She was curious to see whether he would make Gryfindor like James did.

*************

Is he going to be in Gryfindor??

((He's in Hufflepuff, much to the shock of just about everyone in the Great Hall.))

Albus stumbled over to the Hufflepuff table. The sorting was nearly finished, and the last few first-years received less and less applause as more minds began to turn to thoughts of the upcoming feast.

"Zabini, Alexander!"

Oliver straightened up quickly as his brother dropped the Sorting Hat onto his head.

The Hat was silent for a moment. Then, the brim opened wide and the hat screamed, "SLYTHERIN!

I applauded hard, as did Oliver. He looked relieved. I hardly blamed him, given the surprise with Albus.

Alex sat down beside his brother, grinning from ear to ear. He was scrawny, his ridiculous mop of black hair hanging in front of his eyes. "Hi, Oli!" he said cheerfully.

"Don't call me that, Xander," said Oliver, frowning at his brother.

"It deflates his fourth-year vibe," said Drusilla with a wicked grin.

We were all slightly distracted then, as the golden plates filled with piles of steaming food.

((Do you mind the Hufflepuff thing? And also, we can't go right to the feast. Keira still has to be Sorted, and let's let her do that herself, because that really would be controlling.))

((Me? No, I think it's awesome. Where is Kiera, anyway? I haven't seen her.))

I dunno... poetonearth13 was playing her, and I haven't seen her around for a while.

P.S. What are those double parenthesize things?

((They are for out-of-character comments, to make posts easier to read. They're used in basically every text-based roleplay on the Internet. If you don't want to use them, though, that's fine with me.))

Sorry, guys, I had a crazy weekend. Thanks for waiting. Here goes . . .

*************************

I was scared. A knee-knocking, hands sweating, fingernail-gnawing sort of scared. After seeing the reaction that the Potter got when he was cast in Hufflepuff, I was torn. Part of me wanted to be with Lillian, who had seemed so kind, even after she was hexed a bounty of boils, but was that house really that bad? I was reminded of cliques at my old school, so eager to label.

I tripped up to the stool. The hat balanced awkwardly over my head as it considered, quickly shouting out, "Hufflepuff!"

Everyone clapped politely as I walked to the table with as much calmness as I could muster. Lillian flashed me a smile while Albus moped in the corner, having slid down almost to the floor in embarrassment, his cheeks red under the hat covering his eyes.

((Hiya! Everyone shall just have to pretend that your post came before mine, I guess. ONWARDS!!!))

Welcome back!

I smiled at Keira, who shifted nervously in her chair.

"Um..." she began. "I, um, I've heard about Hufflepuff..."

"Me too." I remembered when I came to Hogwarts for the first time I got in a compartment with some pureblood first-years who, completely forgetting my precense, went rambling on about how awful Hufflepuff was. "But it's okay here. Really."

Albus sniffed and wiped his eyes.

"Well, Albus just feels bad," I said. "It's really fun..." But I stopped when I realized that Keira wasn't listening, just adjusting her robe. I was rambling off into the air again, just the reason I didn't have any Muggle friends.

When I started at Hogwarts, I thought that wizards would have some kind of spell that would make me have friends and stop being so weird. But I knew now that wizards didn't have answers to everything.

"...let the feast begin!" a voice rang out.

And so our plates filled with food. Salad, pudding, jam, loaves of bread... loaves of bread. I wanted to hide under the table. I had an allergic reaction to a lot of foods, and I had forgotten about the feast. Last year I had told the headmaster (mistress?) about my allergies, and they had been able to make up some food for me. But again, they couldn't cure me.

We need to have a Headmaster/mistress. I'm pretty sure that McGonagall isn't here. Maybe an old Order of the Phoenix member?

I grabbed some food and started eating, not noticing what I got in my general state of shock. Albus, a Hufflepuff? I certainly hadn't expected that! Shows how good I am at Divination..I smiled, thinking back to my first Divination class. I had looked into my teacup, seen a pinecone, and started riffling through the book frantically untill my partner looked into my teacup to help me and realized that it was a pinecone. The professor had been just as startled as I was. Suddenly I jerked out of my reverie to check on what I was eating. I had many allergies, and did not want to start the year by getting sick. Urgh. Almost everything on my plate was bound to get a reaction. I grimaced, then dumped it out and carefully selected some better food. I looked around the Hall. James wasn't happy about the House Albus was put in, and Selwyn's group of friends were laughing hysterically. About me or Albus, or some unfortunate Muggle-Born, I wasn't sure. Whichever, I was sure they weren't laughing about anything I would find funny.

TNO is that better?!

My sis was looking over my shoulder just now...........she thinks the pinecone is hilarious. So do I, really, it helps to make Hazel more person-ish, with mistakes and bloopers, y'know?

TNO I agree, Hazel needs a personality. Is it getting better?

We both have allergies? That's a coincidence. I thought I was being original!
