Hey all! So,

Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Book Recommendations!
Hey all! So,...

Hey all! So, summer is here and I have nothing to read! Oh, the cruel irony of life: I stay up 'til midnight reading on a school night, but now I have time to read and no new books! Ah, horror! Hopefully I'll get to the library soonish, so does anyone have any recommendations? I like fantasy and fiction best, but really I'll read pretty much anything. Thank you! :)

I just read the book Absolutely Truly by Heather Vogel Frederick (It was rec. in the mag.) and I absolutely truly loved it !! It's about a girl named Truly Lovejoy, who is 6 feet tall and is in 7th grade! Her dad was in the war when an accident happens. Then her family moves to boring old Pumpkin Falls, New Hampshire. She and her new friends find a mystery lurking in an old copy of Charlottes Web. Will she solve this daring mystery? But,  I think you'll love it !!

Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld- This book tells two stories: one about a young woman moving to New York City while finishing her first novel, the other is the novel she is writing.

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman- This is one of my favorite books ever. It explores London Below, the fantastical city in the sewers of London. When normal guy Richard Mayhew rescues a young woman named Door (yes Door) on the street, people stop noticing him. He is sucked into the strange world of Under London and Door's quest to avenge her family and save London Below. I really like all of Neil Gaiman's writing, but this is my favorite of his books. It is a novelization of the BBC TV series written by Gaiman and someone else (I'm sorry other writer, I don't remember your name) which has Peter Capaldi of Doctor Who fame and is also pretty good.

Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie- Ancillary Justice is set in a future universe where humans do not recognise gender. Everyone is referred to as 'she'. As well as the whole genderless thing, it is also a meditation on colonialism and class.

If you haven't read The Giver, go read it. It's by Lois Lowry. Also Hatchet and The Brian Books by Gary Paulsen; The Wildwood Chronicles by Colin Meloy; No Summit Out Of Sight, The True Story Of The Youngest Person To Climb The Seven Summits by Jordan Romero and Linda LeBlanc (I'm not usually into nonfiction but this is great!); The Zodiac Legacy by Stan Lee; Scythe by Neal Schusterman... Okay! That's a bunch... Maybe more later.

I totally recommend The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill.  This book is aawesome!!! I want to mention that I have a question for you--are you still not in school?  I'm on my second day of school right now, and speaking of which I love it!  Nice people in my class.  Anyway, the book is on the fantasy and melancholy side, and It's super addicting, and I promise you will totally be immersed in the book whenever you pick it up.  I read it to my Mom and even she liked it.  Another book I recomend is Furthermore by Tarhereh Mafi. The copy I got had a funny "About the Author" type section.  This book is completely on the Fantasy side, and it is a little like revisiting a more dangerous version of Wonderland.  Please read these book if you get the chance.  If I would choose what my favorite was it woulfd be The Girl That Drank the Moon.
