Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Guess the book quote!
This game's probably...

This game's probably been done on here before, but I thought it'd be fun to do again. Basically, someone posts a line of dialogue from a book, and other people try to guess what it's from. There's not really any winning or losing, it's just fun. So without further ado, let's see how many fandoms I can summon with these quotes:

"You are not much of a warrior, are you, Finian?"

"Make way for the Raven King"

"My ghost won't associate with your ghost"

"I am not ruined. I am ruination."

"Fear is the mind-killer"

"You are a pipe dream."

"Good night, sweet prince."

"You owe me three days in the infirmary."

"Am I not merciful?"

"I am the one thing you will never kill. I am hope."

Anyone got any guesses?

First, great idea, Snazzycakes!! This is the game for me - and I will guess every quote HAHAHA.

*looks at list*

*sighs tragically*

Actually, no, I will not be able to guess every quote. But here are some guesses!

"My ghose won't associate with your ghost" I have heard that one repeated on the CB  before, and it is from Six of Crows??

"Good night, sweet prince." It sounds vaguely Narnian.

As for the others, I am stumped. I don't read a lot of recent novels - the most recent one I like is "Auggie and Me" by R. J. Palacio. I tend to read older books, like Charles Dickens' novels, the Edward Eager books, and the Elizabeth Enright books.

"Make way for the Raven King" -- The Raven King, I think; I know it's from TRC, but I'm not sure which book. Also, glad to see I've a fellow reader of that series! :) I read These Violent Delights, and it's good -- original & well-written.

"My ghost won't associate with your ghost" -- Matthias, Six of Crows.

"I am not ruined. I am ruination." -- Ruin and Rising? Genya said this, I think.

"Am I not merciful?" -- AIDAN, Iluminae.

Here's some:

"When I was little, my uncle Pete had a necktie with a porcupine painted on it."

"Rain drums its fingers on the garden shed."

"If there's a magic here, it's down deep where my hands can't reach it, if you take my meaning."

You're correct on all four! Your one about Uncle Pete's necktie sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't place it. The other two, I've got no clue.

And @Poinsettia, "Good night, sweet prince" isn't from Narnia; it's (I'll give you a hint) from something written way before that. I don't really expect anyone to be able to guess it, but I'm curious if someone will :)

"When I was little, my uncle Pete had a necktie with a porcupine painted on it." - Stargirl!

I don't think I know any of the other ones.

Hi Artemis! (i like your name)

I know the first one is from Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, which is a really good book. As for the others, I'm not completely sure, but maybe this book called Gallant, though I can't remember who wrote it. And the third one.. I have no clue.

Here's some of mine:

"The matriarch of House Kore was running late."

"I know too much of mud."

"The bottom of the lake tasted like mud, salt, and regret."

"I reach out and caress the face of the boy I'm supposed to love."

That's all! BTW all of these book quotes are from YA novels, so if you don't read those, then you won't guess them.

Why do I feel like the lat one's from The Hunger Games? I don't know...

Here's some of mine:

"One of them found our friend the homeless guy, and they were having a serious conversation about metal angels from Mars."

"The ADHD part of me wondered, off-task, whether the rest of his clothes were made the same way."

"The boy regained his composure and held out his hand."

That'll be it for now...

thanks! you have a pretty snazzy name as well. :)

"Rain drums its fingers on the garden shed" is indeed from Gallant. (It's by V.E. Schwab.)

I don't know any of your quotes, although the last one does, as Rainbow said, have (apparently misplaced) Hunger Games vibes. (nor do I know any of Rainbow's quotes -- unfortunately, as they're all fantastic, especially the first one.)

Yeah if I hadn't already read the last one I would've said it gave off Hunger Games vibes. I don't why, but it does.

Hmm. "Good night, sweet prince" is not from Narnia. Well, if it's from something older, maybe it's from a Shakespeare play? I really don't know which one, though.

Yes, Shakespeare. Hamlet to be specific.
