THE ASK ADMIN

THE ASK ADMIN THREAD!!!!!!

Ok, so there are tons of threads made to ask Admin a particular question. I thought: why doesn't someone just make ONE thread for ALL the questions? So, here it is!

My first question: Can't the Admins make some sort of search thing inside this website so that we can look for a certain thread? Because I was going to revive several, and they got stuck somewhere between the page they were on and the first page. I don't really feel like looking through all the pages again...

=^..^=

Our Webmaster knows that a Search function has been requested, but we are a small staff with many other things to do to publish all our magazines and maintain all our Web sites. It's unlikely we'll get to a Search engine anytime soon, if ever. I think a few years ago a Chatterboxer figured out how to search via Google with Cricket Chatterbox plus a specific theme in the search field. I don't know if that would still work now because there are many more threads on Chatterbox, and many with similar themes, that there were two years ago. I'm sorry we can't be more encouraging about this.

I submitted a story to Cricket League a few years ago for a contest asking for stories about horses. I got a letter saying it didn't win, and I don't remember seeing my name in the honorable mention section in the magazine. I wanted to find and read the story again, but I don't know where to find it. Can you help? It was about an incredibly intelligent horse named John who got kidnapped by a couple of cruel men.

I'm sorry, we can't keep track of contest stories. You should send a stamped return envelope with it or keep a copy at home. We get hundreds every month.

For lolz and curiousness...

When did the CB start? Who were the first CBers?

Admins...?

Oh, sorry. I didn't realize you were asking me. If I remember right, the Chatterbox has been live for over four years. It will be five years this summer.

Who was the first person to ever post on the CB?

Good question, JDD. Does anyone remember? Or know an easy way to look back and find out? I do remember the names of several of the first CBers, but am not sure who was really first.

If I'm correct, it was Loren T. Click on "Submitted by" and it will automatically switch to oldest to newest or newest to oldest.

Thanks, Ruby! You know more than I do!

I just realized that doing that is also an excellent way to find lost threads! Whoo!!!

So, something occured to me. A scenario that I wondered what the Admins would do in.

So, say I submitted a thread about codes, and with it a coded message, and the code key. It would take quite a bit of time to write or decode a message written in this code. So, would the Admin reviewing the post have to decode the message, or, if it took too much time, would you guys just say that you needed to know what the coded messages said to allow them and it took too much time to decode them, so we couldn't have such a thread?

Not saying I'm going to write such a thread, just wondering what you would have to do in that case.

Admin: We Admins do need to review all comments before they are posted and, unfortunately, we don't have time to decode comments to check their meaning. It's fine to talk about codes, but we reserve the right do delete any parts of comments we don't readily understand.

A Thread was just created introducing my brother as "Steve" (he has a bit of a minecraft obsession) and I can't find it anywhere in Chirp at Cricket even though I went through quite a few pages, around 20, and I tried a google search.

Do you have any ideas what might've happened to it?

Look on the very back pages.

An easier way (as I previously pointed out) is to click on "Submitted by". The posts will switch to oldest to newest. Then click last and you'll likely see your thread there, unless it's older than that or the Admins deleted it for unknown reasons.

I didn't really make myself clear when I first said that what Ruby pointed out was a good way to find lost threads.

Thanks for explaining this, JDD.

I clicked on the Book to Movie Adaptations thread on BaB, and then a thing came up saying that it was not on the approved list on parent controls?  Any thoughts?  Because I'm able to go on other threads fine.

If the parental controls only work on the computer you use, then maybe you should ask your mom. I'm just guessing, but maybe there's a word somewhere in the page that triggers the parental controls, if you have that sort of thing. I would ask my dad if it was me, or my mom. It depends on which parent knows more about computers or which controls your computer or the computer you use.

Wait, or maybe there's a list and you should put the web address for this site or the thread on the list. Sorry, kinda obvious.

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING QUESTION MAY POSSIBLY BE PERCIEVED AS A DUMB QUESTION!!!

I want to submit a haiku for this month's poetry contest. Can I use letters cut out of magazines glued on a piece of paper?

YOU WERE WARNED. I WOULD LOVE IT IF THE QUESTION WAS ANSWERED.

Yes, that would be all right, as long as the words of the poem are your own original creation. However, since it's a poetry contest, just handwriting or typing the same original words would do just as well. Entries will be judged on the quality of the poetry only. The judges do appreciate entries that are easy to read.

Admins, I posted a thread earlier today addressing some things that I think need to be talked about, but I can't find it anywhere. Is it still being reviewed or did you choose not to post it for reasons unknown to me?

A Concerned Chatterboxer

It is still being reviewed by all Admins. I myself have not noticed any rude comments and think this may be a non-issue. But the others may feel differently.

I haven't checked to see if anyone else already asked this question, so sorry to bother you if they have. I was just wondering why, for the latest issue's contest (for the magazine's birthday) you must send in your entry by snail mail instead of via the internet.

Well, we've considered accepting email entries, but we decided against it. We need to have hard copies of the entries to compare and judge them, and we don't have the time and facilities to print them all out. At least not now.
