DEBATE THREAD!!!!!!!!!!

Yo humans!!!!!  Sorry I havnt been around much.  busy busy busy...

Anyways I'm starting a debate thread where we can debate over problems solutions and such.

Since I am the creator of this thread I and only I will pick out the questions.

When we surmise we are at the end of a discusion I shall pick out a new question for us to debate over!!!!!!!!

FIRST QUESTION!!!!!!

*drum role please...

SHOULD PLUTO BE CONSIDERED A PLANET?  WHY OR WHY NOT??????????

So there you are, I'll wait for this to pop up before I state my theories.  ;-)

Yes. It should be a planet. I consider it a planet. I also consider tomatoes vegetables, not fruit.

Did you know that tomatoes are considered vegetables by the Supreme Court because vegetables are less expensive to ship? Techincally, it is fruit, though.

I consider tomatoes a fruit, but I use it as a vegetable. Just like this thing I read somewhere: Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it into a fruit salad.

Nope. Pluto's a dwarf planet and dwarf planet it shall remain.

Firstly, Pluto is tiny. Our own moon is roughtly a thousand miles larger in diameter, and we sure aren't calling it a planet. And if that isn't reason enough to kick it out of the planet club, let me tell you a story.

Once upon a time, astronomers once found a "planet" between Mars and Jupiter. They called it Ceres, despite it being very small compared to the rest of the planets.  And then they found another one. And another one. Until they found hundreds and hundreds of them. They rightly renamed them asteroids, in an asteroid belt.

Now, fast forward to when Pluto was found. After it was discovered, more and more objects like Pluto, both in size and material kept being found around where Pluto was. That wouldn't be a problem to keep calling Pluto a planet unless a larger ice-planet in the area was discovered.

It was, and it was called Eris.

So--this new area of scattered objects was named the Kuiper Belt, and Pluto renamed a dwarf planet, where is belongs.

A dwarf planet. Sure. But a planet. :)

Call it a ____ planet for all I care. It's a planet though. ;)

My only defense is that Pluto is a dwarf planet 'cuz it's TINY. Well, Shadow Dragon, that is awesome proof! I agree! *Slams hammer down on court desk* All I have to say is: yaaaas, just yas. :) Reporter out! :)

Pluto is not a planet. There are many, many, dwarf planets in our solar system, some are Pluto's size or larger. It is nonsensical to have Pluto be a planet and not, say, Eris.

In real life, I don't thik Pluto is a planet, but since so many people are arguing against poor, little Pluto, I'll support him.

Pluto is a planet.

The government says that to be a planet, they have to be three things: circling the sun, it orbits in a round shape because of gravity, and it has cleared it's 'neighbourhood' of debris, such as asteroids or comets. But in real life? Earth gets hit by just as many asteroids and comets as Pluto does. And why does Earth get considered a planet? Simple. We live on Earth. Therefore we're a part of it all.

And the small factor: Earth is small too. Mercury is small. You can't compare it to Jupiter or something like that! And the interesting thing? The size of Earth:Jupiter is almost the same as the size of Pluto:Earth. What does that mean? Earth gets to be in the group, but it's still tiny!

Back to the clearing it's neighbourhood of debris thing. Those rules the government makes? KEEP A CLEAN NEIGHBOURHOOD? What about all those asteroids that hit Earth? What about the Torjan asteroids that surround Jupiter? We don't seem to care about that!

It's not Pluto's fault that it's part of such of poor neighbourhood! Planets can be like people. Born in a poor neighbourhood, then rising up and becoming the president! If Earth were in Pluto's condition, we would still be able to make some excuse. Because we're on Earth. But Pluto? No sir! And all those rules the government makes? Ridiculious. THere would be no planets if we really followed those rules well.

So Pluto should be a planet. It's not fair if it's not.

*looks back at what I wrote* Wow am I bad at debating.

PLUTO IS A PLANET!  Okay. I will calm down. Pluto is a planet, just not a planet is our solar system. It's a dwarf planet. Saying it's a dwarf planet, not a planet is like saying the vestments on the third Sunday of advent are rose, not pink. Rose is a shade of pink! If it's rose, it's pink! If it's a dwarf planet, it's a planet.

So yeah, those are my thoughts. (My pet pevees did not affect this post at all. No way.)

These questions are BRILLIANT!!! I mean, nobody's feelings can really get hurt over Pluto, can they?

With my luck, they probably can.

ANYWAYS!!!! Enough about that and all of that crazy nonsense, let me stride in here boldly, kick in the door without a search warrant and say my peice--But, let's be serious guys. Serious. Pluto is a planet. Take away Dwarf from Planet, and what do you get? Planet. But it IS a planet--a DWARF Planet.

Let's take a look at the definition of Planet. According to Google--plan·et

ˈplanət/
noun
  1. a celestial body moving in an elliptical orbit around a star.
    synonyms: celestial body, heavenly bodydwarf planetsatellitemoonearthasteroidplanetoid;

    literaryorb

I might have given some links there--if so, I don't really know how to remove them! i'm super sorry, and I hope the admins can do something about it. Now, it says, that a planet is a celestial body moving in an elliptical orbit around a star. It means, very plainly, that it revolves around a star. Merriam Webster says--

b (1) :  any of the large bodies that revolve around the sun in the solar system (2) :  a similar body associated with another star

"Any of the large bodies that revolve around the sun in the solar system" So what it's a dwarf? It's still a planet! I really love what Merriam Webster says the definition of a Planet is. In fact, check out your dictionary and see what it says about a planet today!

Also, if you look up the definition of the Sun on Merriam Webster, it says that the sun is any star that has planets which move around it, or the star that the earth moves around, and gives the earth heat and light. Note the word: Star. And a planet has to orbit around a star, right? Pluto has all the Planet requirements. Don't dismiss it as a dwarf!

I made a very messy, very sloppy model of the solar system. I was too lazy to put in any other planet besides Pluto, but it actually serves a purpose--Don't look at anything but Pluto. Change your perspective. Now can you see how planet-y it is? :) Yes, it's very bad, and might take away from my point, but it proves it's point very well.
