Whoa. Hamilton is

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Whoa. Hamilton is

Whoa. Hamilton is wow. Like, I finally went over to ITunes to listen to some of their songs, and they have some BAD lyrics. I can't believe so many people on Cricket listen to it!

Thankfully, I saw that there was a clean version, so I listened to My Shot and Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story and wasn't impressed. My Shot was like a rap song! I'm not a rap person, at all.

I'm sorry to all those Hamilton fans out there, but I was horrified.

ONE MORE THING (yes that was me just now)

I realize I went on for so long it probably sounded like Hamilton was dirty or bursting with curse words. It really isn't! I think only younger people would have problems with it. Like Novelist said, I didn't really notice it.

ACK I feel like I typed it all wrong...(oh but don't delete it Admin, it has lots of good stuff too)...I have so much trouble getting things across...I over-elaborate...

There, I typed too much just now.

ACK

Bye

I love you guys

Well, if you're not into rap or cussing, then The Phantom of the Opera might be a good fit. There's only one bad word that I can recall, and it's not even that bad. Of course, if you don't like that, it's okay. I won't take it personally.

But I will.

Quiet, Pierre.

I hate you. You're really annoying.

Okay, okay. You've already established that.

There really isn't as much bad language as people are making it out to be in the musical. Sure there are a couple of songs that a child below the age of 10 should not be hearing, but it's really not a bad musical. It's actually quite wonderfully clever and the music itself is AMAZING!!!!!! I won't hold it against you to dislike it -- I was personally a little iffy on it the first time I heard it, but just give a chance and focus more on the actual music than the lyrics. You may find that the whole thing is actually quite good...

It's rebuff o'clock.

Dear Shocked at CBers,

I respectfully disagree with your points and believe that this thread is not necessary.

Your first point was stated: "they have some BAD lyrics."

I, for one, have read ALL of the lyrics. There are, of course, swear words and some innuendo innapropriate for younger viewers. The minimum age that should be allowed to hear the track is probably 11, and that depends on their maturity.

Second, multiple above comments share a good point: history itself is not a clean, happy singalong. The real people would have said those words, so the actors should too.

Your second statement: "I can't believe that so many people on Cricket listen to it!"

First, this is a bit blunt; it implies that we should not be listening, that we are doing something bad by doing so. We all come from different backgrounds. The Hamilton soundtrack is nothing to an average 13-year-old attending a fairly mainstream school like myself.

We like the soundtrack. If you don't, that's OK.. just please don't imply that we are being "bad" by listening.

Third statement: "(I) wasn't impressed. My Shot was like a rap song! I'm not a rap person at all."

Funny story here.

I started listening to Hamilton just a few months ago. 80% of the soundtrack is rap I thought, "eh, not my thing."

But I kept listening.

Over time, I found that I LOVED it. The clever rhyme schemes, the meter... whatever rap Lin created, he did a good job.

It's weird, because like you, I'm not a rap person. but I like this.

Eh.

Anyway, back to my point: this is your own personal opinion. if you don't like this musical's style, fine. Just be nicer about it. :)

Last, I don't think this thread should have been made

You only made it to imply that the Hamilton fans on this site are "bad" for listening. Please don't do this. You only made me feel worse about myself.

Sorry.

ADMINS: Please don't edit/delete this, I worked very hard and had no copies saved to my computer.

The Admins are the judges of what threads should be posted or not. We think it's fine for people to express con as well as pro opinions about the musical.

I'm sorry, guys, it's just that I've grown up in a very, very strict household. I've never heard any bad words spoken in it and my parents have regulated everything I hear, watch, and read, and I'm homeschooled, so I guess I'm just naïve.

I really wasn't trying to be mean to any Hamilton fans. I was just stating that I was surprised kids listened to just dirty music with the excuse "Oh, its historical, that makes all the curse words fine to listen to."

And for the record, I'm fourteen.

Hamilton? Oh for the love of Irene.

No.

All the teenagers at my Musical Theatre classes LOVE it. LOVE it. At first I felt uncomfortable. Then...

I pretended that I loved Hamilton and actually had heard more songs than two.

Then I talked to my friends! They told me NOT to jump on the bandwagon just because I was upset! So I got off.

Fast Forward to the day before yesterday. My theatre was having a short dance party. The first song was "Can't Stop The Feeling". That was fine. I liked dancing to it. But then....Hamilton turned on. I was like "okay, this is gonna be fine, they're gonna be songs after this"

NOPE.

NOTHING. BUT. HAMILTON.

It was frustrating. I listened to the music, but I couldn't tell what he was saying because of all the fans that were screaming and singing along with terrible diction. Okay, maybe it wasn't so bad. But I just didn't get it.

One song that wasn't Hamilton.

I just want a song from Hamilton that I can dance to. NOPE.

The poor thing was...there was a bunch of wide eyed little kids that didn't know what to do, how to dance, why everyone was singing along.

Good news?

This encouraged me to try Hamilton. And then...

Just you wait.
