What do you call a can opener that doesn't work?

A man was held captive on a desert island by pirates. He was given a chance to say one thing. If it was true, they would drown him in the ocean. If it was false they would boil him in oil. What did you say that forced them to let him go?

@Quirker I have no idea XD Maybe you made a typo? And the answer is E? Not likely...

 

1. Mr. Brown lives on the tenth floor of an apartment building. Every day at exactly 6:00 he takes the elevator down to the lobby and then leaves for work. On Sunday he leaves for church at 6:00. Everyday he comes home at exactly 3:00 and goes right back up to his apartment. If the day is rainy or if there are other people in the elevator, he takes the elevator straight to the tenth floor. However, if the elevator is empty, he takes it to the 7th floor and walks up 3 flights of steps to his apartment on the tenth floor. Why does he do this?

2. What gets wetter the more it dries?  

3. If it eats, it grows. If it drinks, it dies. What is it? 

4. The person who makes it doesn't want it, the person who buys it can't use it, and the person who uses it can neither see nor feel it. What is it?

@Kate, is the first one because Mr Brown is short? The second one is a towel, I think, and the third one is fire? I'm not sure what the fourth one is but is it a coffin?

The man lives in a lonely house by the beach. he only leaves to get food and his mail. One day he gets ready for bed, turns all the lights off, and goes to sleep. By morning he has killed severall people. How is this possible?
