Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Random Thoughts/Things?

Random Thoughts/Things?

I wasn’t really sure what to call this thread, but I’ve had this idea floating around in my head for awhile now. Basically, anyone can post anything here. Any random thought you have, any random thing that happens to you, any random question that pops into your mind. Have fun, and don’t be afraid to be random.

11-pound zucchini and flying snakes and adorable axolotls and bearded dragons. And mutant blue frogs.

The most random, weird things that I'm so glad exist. :) especially flying snakes.

today is officially my two year cbversary!! thank you to all the lovely people and admins who make the chatterbox such an amazing place. joining the CB got me into seriously writing novels and poetry, something I'm truly thankful for. I'm usually only active on the poetry threads these days, but I'm still glad to be a part of this community <3

I just read The Missing Piece of Charlie O'Reilly because you recommended it a few months ago somewhere and I finally got around to it (:

I liked it generally—the plot was awesome, lots of unexpected turns and very origional. The characters are relatable—I loved Ana especially—and that whole thing about (spoiler alert, anyone who hasn't read this book) Jonathon being Charlie's brother was cool.

However, I was kind of confused about the whole Kieran/Charlie thing. Is he both—like a previous reincarnation that's coming back to him through dreams? Or is Kieran Charlie's ancestor and Brona just confused them? Or is Brona his grandmother—that thing with the necklace and Charlie's mother at the end kind of hints that. I'm so confused...

Oh sorry, I didn't see this!

But thank you! I'm so happy you read it, that's my favorite book! I agree that the plot is great and the story is orginal. As for the Kieran/Charlie thing, I'm pretty sure Charlie is supposed to look a lot like Kieran and Brona is just so desperate to see him again that she decides Charlie must be Kieran. At the end, when (spoilers for those who haven't read the book) Brona is able to forgive herself and join Kieran, Charlie keeps the necklace and it shifts from something Brona gave to Charlie thinking he was Kieran to something that Charlie keeps as a memory of her and Kieran, seperating them and showing that although Kieran and Brona are dead, Charlie will remember them and has acknowledged everything they had to go through.

Of course, that's just my perception. I think it was probably left open that way so everyone would be able to look at it in their own way.

Fiar enough. I like that explanation. I was thinking something more along the lines of reincarnation, but that's a bit far-fetched even if it would explain the dreams. The necklace part is cool—I just looked up what an eternity knot was and it's pretty interesting.

It was just kind of confusing because I would think most people would know the difference between their son and a look-alike boy. Do you think Brona is Charlie's ancestor (grandmother, specificially, like his mom mentioned in the last chapter)? That would also explain why Charlie's mom called him "a stór."

And was Brona a ghost? Did she half-die in the fire but her longing brought her back or something until she let go of her desire later on? Or did she survive the fire and just suddenly die later with Charlie?

This book is confusing, but in a good way.

I think Brona probably is actually Charlie's grandma, but she's so unhealthy and just really needs to see her son again to the point where she is willing to just accept Charlie as Kieran. And it was my understanding that she did die in the fire, but was unable to fully die or cross over or whatever because she couldn't forgive herself for letting Kieran die. Which is why she needed to believe Charlie was Kieran--she was in denial because it was better than admitting Kieran was dead, since she felt like it was her fault and knew she could not live with that.

I agree, it is confusing in a good way! I feel that there are details purposely left to us and the main idea of the story will still be there.

Have any of you heard of the play And Then There Was One - A Spoof? Its a rendition of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, and my school is putting it on on the 3rd! AND I got cast!!! We've been rehearsing for awhile, one reason for my frequent absence here, and I'm so excited to be in a murder mystery!! Any advice from some of the actors here? I've never performed in a play before and I'm NeRvOuS...
