Random Thoughts/Things?

I wasn’t really sure what to call this thread, but I’ve had this idea floating around in my head for awhile now. Basically, anyone can post anything here. Any random thought you have, any random thing that happens to you, any random question that pops into your mind. Have fun, and don’t be afraid to be random.

So according to some of my classmates, I'm an elf? I don't really understand it, but they firmly believe this and literally will not shut up about it. Like, I'll just say something along the lines of "Wow, the forest looks so serene and golden right now" and one of them'll go "see, you're an ELF" and I'm like "GUYS I'M LITERALLY JUST SAYING THE FOREST IS PRETTY BECAUSE IT IS". Their only evidence is that I have really long hair, am fairly eloquent, write poetry, love climbing trees, love the forest, love nature, am good at archery, taught myself to use an atlatl, do fencing, own a cloak becuase it's cozy and practical, my name is Latin for "girl of the woods" or "forest girl", I know a fair amount about local flora (e.g. I can point out edible things), and oh my gosh I see it

HELP I SEE IT

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!!! Enjoy the food, but mostly the desserts, 'cause the desserts are all that matters, especially the jello salad, lol :)

So I just finished the Lord of the Rings trilogy and was reading the appendices, and I came across this little piece of information.

"We have heard tell that Legolas took Gimli Gloin's son with him [to the Grey-Havens] because of their great friendship, greater than any that has been between Elf and Dwarf. [...] it is strange indeed: that a Dwarf should be willing to leave Middle-earth for any love, or that the Eldar should receive him, or that the Lords of the West should permit it. But it is said that [...] [Galadriel], being mighty among the Eldar, obtained this grace for him..."

Legolas literally takes Gimli to Elfhame, Valinor, the Grey Havens, the place for elves and elves alone (Frodo and Bilbo being the only exceptions). To bring a dwarf there would be unheard of. Legolas, this sassy little king, has the absolute audacity to just go, "You know what, screw it. I'm taking my dwarf." Like, this guy refuses to let millennia of tradition and racial prejudice stop him from spending literally all of eternity with his bestie. And even more than that, Gimli goes. He leaves Middle-earth forever, essentially forswears everything dwarfish, abandons everyone and everything else he loves, just to go with Legolas

I will literally never shut up about this.

Yesss! My favorite part about that particular excerpt is that the lore about dwarfs in Tolkien's other books includes them never being part of Eru (aka Tolkien's version of God)'s Divine Plan, and were basically created by a minor god behind Eru's back, which he Did Not Like, basically making them Unholy Creatures. And Valinor is literally the holy land that was only ever supposed to be seen by Eru's most pure creations (aka elves). Until one day an elf from the equivalent of a small town in Kentucky showed up with a dwarf on the shores of Valinor for literally no reason except they wanted to, and no one knew what to do because no one considered the possibility that a dwarf *could* make it to Valinor. And the only reason he was able to stay is because Galadriel, who has So Many Connections, pulled enough strings to keep him there because she met this dwarf one (1) time and decided he was cool enough.

And it gets 100% funnier if Feanor, Galadriel's uncle, High King of the Nolder, is alive in Valinor at that time (which is debatable), because he was literally obsessed with her hair and begged for a single strand for years. She never gave him one over thousands and thousands of years. And this one dwarf who she knew for like one day asked for a strand of her hair in the first LoTR book and she gives him THREE. Without hesitation. I would very much like Gimli to go and rub that in Feanor's face.

Sorry for going full Tolkien Nerd Overboard there, it's just a wild situation and I love it every time I hear about it :)

Oh, never apologize for going full Tolkien Nerd Overboard. I am loving your insight, and also laughing my head off at "an elf from the equivalent of a small town in Kentucky" because it's so true. (Mirkwood may be many things, but a big city isn't one of them)

Has anyone ever heard of Rosendale? He's such a good song-artist!

Like, if you haven't heard of him or his works before, please go check it out. I'd recommend "boys feel sad too," "Monster in the Wall" or "Six Pills," if you don't know where to start. They're all awesome, and he's got a really soothing voice on top of the touching lyrics.
