Random Thoughts/Things?

Random Thoughts/Things?

I wasn’t really sure what to call this thread, but I’ve had this idea floating around in my head for awhile now. Basically, anyone can post anything here. Any random thought you have, any random thing that happens to you, any random question that pops into your mind. Have fun, and don’t be afraid to be random.

I just listened to (and watched the videos of) music I haven't heard since sixth grade when I was obsessed with it and now I'm questioning my identity again.

I had a dream with my online personality crush in it, and it was so realistic that when I woke up, I was like "wait, did that actually happen???" and it was SO SO REALISTIC and he was in an interview with someone from the Today show in my dream, and he looked EXACTLY like he looks in real life and he sounded EXACTLY like he sounds like in real life, and I still can't get over it. And that was on Friday!

Also, completely unrelated, I gotta see if Moon Jelly (my cousin who used to go as Ripley Wren and posted as Moon Jelly a couple months ago) wants to call today.

Today we were singing "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" (Tears for Fears) in select choir the teacher was like "okay what can we do to make this song more exciting?" And I said "confetti" and my friend said "lasers" and I guess that's the two types of people lol

also we're playing "Viva La Vida" (Coldplay) in band and I'm so excited! I feel like my AE Quinn is very "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and Callum is very "Viva La Vida" so I've been thinking about them a lot the past few days

(warning: more pi nerdiness ahead :D )

if you're interest in memorizing digits of pi but have trouble remembering them, there's this really cool way a mathematician named Art Benjamin thought of. He essentially takes each number and turns it into a consonant/combination of consonants, so 1 = t, th, or d; 2 = n; 3 = m; 4 = r; 5 = l; 6 = sh, ch, or j; 7 = k or a hard g; 8 = f or v; 9 = p or b; and 0 = s or z. To memorize large numbers, he converts each digit into a letter and adds vowels to make words. For example, the numbers 1, 2, ..., 9, 0 could become Tony Marloshkovips for easy memory.

Of course you could use a different letter-to-number system, but using Art Benjamin's, the first 24 digits of pi could become something like "my turtle Pancho will, my love, pick up my new mover Ginger," the next 17 digits of pi might be "my movie monkey plays in a favorite bucket," and the 19 after that might be "ship my puppy Michael to Sullivan's backrubber."

Art Benjamin uses this not only to memorize pi but also to multiply five digit numbers in his head. I've actually seen him do it live—it's amazing. He can do even two and three digit multiplication faster than someone with a calculator.

That's awesome!! Though how is it possible to do calculations using that? :0

he does the normal mental arithmetic and multiplication stuff, but remembers the cross products with his mnemonic so he can record intermediate steps easier :)

Wow, that is cool! (too tired to say anything else; technically I should be torturing myself by doing the ridiculous amount of schoolwork I was assigned, but technically that is terrible for my mental health and depression and...etc.)
