The 13th Mission

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

The 13th Mission

The 13th Mission

You are in your bedroom one day when a letter is slipped under your door. You open it, thinking it might be a note from your sibling, but it's not. It's something...different. You read it multiple times, puzzled.

Dear Reader,

Hello. My name is Miss Mystery, but you may call me Mysty if you'd prefer. I need your help. Someone very important has gone missing- their name is classified information, so we will call them GoldEye for now. Please, will you help me find them? If you say yes, you will get coded letters from them every now and then, and it will be your job to help me decode them. There will also be challenges you must do to get closer to Clues, extra codes that are easier to figure out. Please give me your answer by May 3rd. If we don't have at least 4 people by then, I will extend the date slightly.

Thank you, you have been more helpful than you could ever know.

~Mysty

~~~
Up to 6 people can come to this. Please do this as yoursleves and not a character. It is inspired by Liberte and Basil's Ski Lodge, but it is not a Ski Lodge. I'll add anything I've forgotten later, here is the sheet to sign yourself up:
CBer Name:
Gender/pronouns:
Guess who I am (you can make as many guesses as you like throughout the story, so don't worry if you get it wrong):
Thank you, we'll be starting soon!
Sterling, I'm sorry, but if you don't get your form out by the 10th, we will have to start without you. I do apologize, however.
Thank you!
Hello, everyone. Here is Part 1.
Here's how it'll work. I'll write a chapter/part every so often, and end it with a riddle/puzzle/contest. You do not have to answer the riddle/puzzle/contest, but in order to move on, someone needs to crack the code/enter the contest. If you can't crack the code that's fine, I'll move on if it really gets too hard.
Sterling, thank you for your form. Since I asked pangolin, I feel the need to ask you: do you prefer that I write about you using she/her pronouns, they/them, or switching between the two? Thank you for your patience with me.
You will all be mentioned in the story every so often, so if I say something like "Morning smiles" if you are Morning, you could just think of it as yourself, like "You smile."
Now, without further ado, may I present to you.... Part 1!
~~~
You look around at the lobby of the apartment building. It's painted an off-white color, with a red carpet and red curtains for the windows. An oak desk is on the left side, and people are rushing around. The other CBers around you look as nervous as you feel, because nothing makes sense. When you accepted Mysty's letter, she sent you a plane ticket, the address for this building, and a letter, saying that an Agent--whatever that means--would tell you what floor to go to. After taking a plane to New York City (it was first class and a very nice ride), you all walked here.  All you know is that you're looking for room 18 on a certain floor, but this apartment is huge, and Mysty's expecting you to be where you're supposed to be by 6:05. You look at your watch. It's 5:45.
As you and your group wander around, Nerd nervously says, "Maybe we should go to the desk?" But you all shake your heads. Something tells you that a secret agency wouldn't want you to mention their name at a desk in a large apartment building.
Suddenly, a man walks up to you. He has a top hat on and a suit, and he carries a small leather briefcase. He's tall and has brown-ish black hair. He looks left and right before saying, "The name of this mission is the number you seek, go up to that floor and take a peek." Then he leaves you behind to figure out what that means.
"Well, I guess that was the agent," says Tealeaf. "But what does it mean?"
What floor do you need to go to?
~~~
You don't have to answer this like a roleplay, just say it like "hmm. Maybe floor 4?" (That's not the answer by the way). I know this is a fairly simple code, they'll get more challenging as we go. The chapter's also a bit short, sorry. I'll give you until May 11 to guess the answer.
You are correct. However I'd prefer if from now on you posted under your actual CB name and gave the answer in a comment--it's easier to tell who you are that way. Anyway, everyone, this person got it correct! Next chapter is coming out soon.
Part 2
After walking to room 18 on the 13th floor, you all stand nervously in front of the door. Pangolin, who is, apparently, getting annoyed by everyone's fear, finally is about to knock on the door when someone pulls it open. It's a girl. She's got curly, golden-blonde hair that goes down to her shoulders, a light blue t-shirt, and white jeans. She smiles.
"Mysty. They're here!"
A woman appears next to the girl. She has brown hair and purple eyes. She's wearing black heels, a black skirt, and a white blouse. She nods, then speaks and signs at the same time.
"Hello. I am Miss Mystery. Welcome! Come in, come in."
You all walk nervously into the apartment. Inside, a fire crackles on the wall across from the door you entered in, with two long windows on either side of it, revealing that is snowing outside, despite the fact that it is May. A round wooden table with matching chairs is next to the door, and on either side of the room, there are two entrances to other rooms in the apartment. Across from the table, there's a small kicthen.  Other than that, it's pretty empty.
Mysty smiles. "This is Violet, GoldEye's sister."
Elle frowns. Then they sign, "So her name isn't 'classified information' then?"
Mysty laughs. "I suppose you have a point, now don't you?"
Violet points to the door on the right side of the room. "You should go settle in," she says. "Then, we have a request for you."
You all go through the door, which leads to a bedroom with seven beds. After claiming your beds, you go back to the main room. Mysty and Violet are sitting at the table.
"We need your help," Mysty says, while signing at the same time. "We want you to create a missing person's poster."
"Won't that attract a lot of attention?" Morning says. She also signs to help Elle understand.
"Well, yes," says Mysty. "Which is why we'd like you to include a code in it. A code that the Agents in this building will understand, but also something that would slip past a normal resident of this apartment. Do you think you can do it?"
~~~

You do not have to this if you don't want to, the basic idea is that you draw a picture of how you imagine GoldEye (GoldEye uses she/her pronouns) and include a code in it. If you don't want to do a code or you don't want to draw a picture, you can do one or the other, or just don't do either. The winner will get... Um, happiness and bragging rights. If someone has a nice code and someone else has a nice poster, they'll be two winners. Also, if nobody does this, I guess we'll just move on.

Hello everyone,

I'm not taking what's already here down, but
I'm afraid I have to ask you to not include codes that need to be
decoded. Riddles and puzzles are fine. It just takes too long for me to decode them to make sure they're
CB-appropriate, which means I can't post your other comments quickly.

Yes, you may call me Writing! The code is a shift-13 numarical cypher.

Clever! This is going to sound annoying, so I am sorry, but can you post the picture again? If not that's fine, I'll judge the picture and idea of the code based off memory, but sometimes it glitches a bit for me and I can no longer see a picture that I had been able to see a few days ago. I mainly want to be able to try and decode your code so it will be easier to judge, as I do not remember all the numbers. If it is easier, you can just tell me the numbers and I'll decode from there rather than posting the picture. Thank you, sorry!

As Admin says above, we're not posting messages in code, because it takes us to long to decode them for review before posting. I'm sorry.

I'd love to do this, but does the code have to say a specific thing? Thanks!

PS: Are we still allowed to guess you?

No, it does not necessarily have to say a specific thing. Just something like "13th Mission" or "Help us Agents" or "GoldEye" to communicate who we are and what we need.
