Futuristic/solarpunk/Sci-

Futuristic/solarpunk/Sci-fi RP

So if you don't know I'm a sci-fi nut and one of the new, cool aspects of sci-fi that I really like is solarpunk! It's basically a cross between steampunk and sci-fi. In solarpunk, the world is literary, yet sciencey. People work to solve their problems, instead of being totally reliant on tech. It's a future that happens after an apocalypse of some sort, so there are old buildings, but amazing tech and culture growing out of it.

You can imagine homes with architecture like a library from the 1800s with wrought iron balconies and domes that tower above, but with touch screens and solar panels, but the walls are wood, the solar panels look like stained-glass windows, the light is cozy and bright from multicolored paper lanterns, there are books everywhere, and cozy bean bags and rugs crowd a nook from which you can see a huge tree which creates a stairway that you can climb to visit your friends, who live upstairs.

Doesn't solarpunk sound awesome! I just think it's cooler and more fun to write about a cozy future than one controlled by some technocratic dictatorship. And rebuilding a world based on books and science after an apocalypse? Awesome!

So I wanted to make a solarpunk RP! I kind of did some worldbuilding, and this is what I set up for the RP.

All the characters live in Citali, the capital. Citali is the center of solarpunk-y-ness, with the best architects, writers, scientists, gardeners (I'm not sure how to put this job exactly), and artisans. The problem that they have to solve is that they have to make the settlement bigger, and they'll work together to do it. However, they find evidence of the apocalypse as they build.

Name: Jocasta Tamar

Job: Writer/reader. She's a librarian.

Age: 14, but she's pretty mature.

Appearance: Amerasian, black hair, brown eyes, tan skin. Wears a hoodie and jeans with a charm bracelet that has book, pen, orchid, and sun charms.

Personality: Loves being part of a team, like being second (not first, but she has some good ideas and loves doing her job to help). Pretty experienced with science considering she's a librarian.

____________________________________________

Name: Nahla Alain

Job: Messenger. Works with all the leading artisans/scientists, knows everyone. Lives in this house in the dome of one of the older buildings. The dome is iron with glass filling in the gaps and Nahla has this gigantic tree growing from the floor to the top and its leaves just fill the 20-foot ceiling and make everything dappled. The dome is on top of the city center, so she knows everything going on in Citali.

Age: 15

Appearance: Brown hair, green eyes. Looks a little like Hermione Granger (third-year-ish). Wears brown leather army boots and carries a backpack all the time. Fidgets a little with the backpack straps.

Personality: Super friendly with everyone, has about 5 pet cats who are all different colors.

Allarie-

I nod absentmindedly, my ears tuned to the rustling I hear in the bushes and-

I slam my leg into Ramae's bushes, shocking the Rhyker inside. He's got her in a visegrip.

"Were you going to..." I trail off, horrified.

Rage boils inside me and I ram my knees into his stomach, preparing to knock him out. Nadya crawls out as quickly as possible.

"Wait!" Darius yells, "I know him."

Nahla~

Ramae sees us all out the door and disappears back inside. Darius, Holly, Nadya, and Allarie walk down the street to the streetcar stop. Lena sprints up the mangrove stair at the end of the street into the high-rising treetop district. I climb on my bike and head to the city center.

Ten minutes later, I lift my backpack out of my bike basket with a happy sigh. I've gotten used to being busy around the city through four years of messengering, but I'm still always happy to crash on my bed. I push open the door from the lobby, climb the stairs, and plop myself on my bed. For a minute I just lie there, looking out my window at the sky and the trees gently swaying in the breeze, looking up at the solar glass and wrought iron designs on the domed ceiling, feeling my thankfully soft comforter. And then I sit up, alert again. Belle and Rhyker are stealing my city, my capital. We have to get them.

I dump my backpack onto the floor of my room, sorting through its contents, picking what to take and what to leave here.

Nahla~

The contents of my backpack are now spread out over my bamboo wood floor: laptop, notebook, pens, water bottle, energy bars, hoodie, phone, toolkit, first aid kit, citali credit card, map, and the file folder on my current projects: in this case, Rhyker.

I pack everything back in, then add extra energy bars, socks, and water. I don't know how long we're going to be out of the capital, looking for Belle and Rhyker. We will stay as long as it takes.

Two hours later, everyone is in my room, sitting on my floor, window nook, bed, and couch. Holly pins a map on the wall and starts talking, explaining what we're going to do.

"We'll leave Citali through the turbine wall exit, near Darius's warehouse," she says. "The road there extends through the whole country -- it's basically the main one. We can travel that way as long as we need to, following any lead we can find on Rhyker and Belle. Let's do this."

She folds her map, and I lead us back down the stairs and outside. Everyone mounts their bikes, including Holly and Nadya, who are riding together on a tandem bike, and we set off towards the edge of Citali.

Darius~

As we near the edge of the city, the buildings start to thin out. Skyscrapers become townhouses, and eventually small wooden cottages. Nearly outside the city limits, the air smells fresher, purer. Tall trees dot the hillsides on either side of the road, and a creek trickles beneath us as we bike over a bridge.

But no matter how beautiful the scenery is, it's all still part of Citali. The real world looks nothing like this. The real world has been a barren wasteland for almost a century. Citali was built to serve as a safe haven from the rest of the world. It is surrounded entirely by massive golden walls towering a mile into the sky. Sometimes, when I do  maintenance on the tall buildings, I can almost see over the wall. I can just catch a glimpse of the gray sky beyond Citali's boundaries.

Finally, we reach the golden wall, already farther than I've ever been from home. There's an obvious seam in the wall, a sealed door. But there was no clear way to open it.

"How the heck do we get over this thing?" Nahla mutters, squinting up at the wall.

"No clue. I've never built anything this big," I reply.

"What do you kids want?" Everyone turns in the direction of the sudden unfamiliar voice. A man with a long, dirty beard is leaning against a nearby post.

I clear my throat. "Um, we're looking for two men. One young, one old. Did they come through this door earlier?"

The bearded guy stares at me for a couple seconds, then he starts laughing in a raspy voice, clapping his hands. "That's a good joke, boy! These doors haven't been used in thirty years!"

Nadya~

After my scare with Rhyker III, I am more than happy to stick with everyone, even if I'm silent for most of the way. As soon as we arrive, I hop off the tandem bike I've been sharing with Ramae and run my hand down the smooth suface of the wall. Ramae, Nahla, and Darius converse quietly with the man at the door as I examine the wall itself. It's golden, but probably not the real stuff. No, definitely not the real stuff, because the small flowers growing nearby can't tolerate large amounts of metals. So what is it? The small pock-marks in it suggest gold, it looks like gold- why would they ever make such realistic fake gold?

My train of thought is shattered as Nahla shrieks. Ramae begins to laugh, and I relax. But soon enough everyone starts edging away from me, their faces grim. I follow their gazes and freeze

I edge away from the man. The others do the same. The man guarding the doors loses his nerve and runs screaming.

The newcomer stands nine feet by my reckoning, and the stench of whiskey is overpowering. I'm about to greet him, but he smiles a stubbly, toothless smile and raises a pistol towards...

Nadya.

"Run!" I scream, jumping in front of her as he fires the bullet and I lose consciousness.

Nahla~

The bearded old man runs away at the sight of the newcomer. How we didn't see the tall shooter is a total mystery -- the land is flat, and the wall is bright yellow, contrasting with everything else.

The tall man whips up an arm holding a pistol faster than any of us can move. Nadya, examining the wall, freezes in terror. As if in slow motion, the rest of the scene plays out: The squeezing of the trigger, Nadya, tackling the librarian to the ground. The  bullet hits the wall of gold with a bang like a steel drum and just stops. Like that. As if it was never fired.

Darius is the first to react. "Who are you?"

The tall man gives a slow grin. "Good question, Darius Gamma. But another good one is -- why are you and your friends out here?"

Black. Blackness. Where's the library?

Ah. Light.

Too bright.

Gold wall.

Gold wall?

Intruder!

I leap up from the ground and slam into the Rhyker IV.

He screams and tries to hit me.

"HOW did they get out?" I ask.

He decides living is more important than the gang.

"Shoot the wall!" he groans, "shoot the wall!"

I shoot the wall and he tackles me, but not before I see a small, hidden door creak open.

The Rhyker leaps onto Allarie.

"Get off her or I'll hurt you," I say in a shaky voice.

The tall figure's eyes show fear for just a second, but then a sinister grin creeps across his face. "If you hurt me, you'll risk hurting your friend," he sneers. I hate to admit it, but the Rhyker was right. The man still had Allarie in his grip, and the way my hands were shaking, I could hurt either one of them.

I turn to the others. "Get through the door! I'll handle this!"

"We can't just leave you hear!" Nahla cries.

Before I can respond, a roar of pain comes from the Rhyker. I turn around to see that Allarie is fighting off her attacker. "That's it, Allarie!" I shout encouragingly. "You can do it!" Finally, the librarian struggles free of Rhyker's grasp and runs over to join me and the others.

As soon as Allarie is free of Rhyker's grasp, I walk towards the tall man. The tall man backs up nervously until his back is pressed against the wall. I glare at him."If you try to follow us, I will hurt." Rhyker nods quickly.

I back up slowly, not letting the man out of my sight, until I am standing right in front of the door with the others. "Come on, guys," I say quietly. "Let's go."

Right now, there are four that we know are Rhykers:

1: the old guy

2: the attacker

3: the one who attacked Nadya, and that's how we know there's a gang

4: the one who was shooting Allarie

Nahla~

Darius helps us get through the door. Allarie is still holding her gun ready, but the Rhyker looks like he's done here. We collapse on the ground outside the wall as the golden door slides shut, cutting off our view of the Rhyker... and of Citali.

I bend over Allarie with a bandage, and Nadya produces a vial of cream.

"That was crazy," she comments, handing Allarie the supplies. "Holly, is this normal?"

Darius ~

While Nadya bandages Allarie, I take in the surroundings outside of Citali.

This place looks nothing like the city. We seem to be resting on the side of a huge cliff. Turning my head left and right, the cliff seems to stretch out of sight in both directions. Citali was built on top of a mountain?

My eyes drift to the ground below. It seems to be a huge plain, with almost no vegetation or trees. There are several houses visible, but they are small and far apart from each other. A single road cuts through the dead landscape, stretching north as far as I could see before disappearing into barren mountains in the distance.

I turn around to face the others. "I think finding Belle and the other Rhyker's is going to be harder than we thought," I say grimly.
