Futuristic/solarpunk/Sci-

Futuristic/solarpunk/Sci-fi RP

So if you don't know I'm a sci-fi nut and one of the new, cool aspects of sci-fi that I really like is solarpunk! It's basically a cross between steampunk and sci-fi. In solarpunk, the world is literary, yet sciencey. People work to solve their problems, instead of being totally reliant on tech. It's a future that happens after an apocalypse of some sort, so there are old buildings, but amazing tech and culture growing out of it.

You can imagine homes with architecture like a library from the 1800s with wrought iron balconies and domes that tower above, but with touch screens and solar panels, but the walls are wood, the solar panels look like stained-glass windows, the light is cozy and bright from multicolored paper lanterns, there are books everywhere, and cozy bean bags and rugs crowd a nook from which you can see a huge tree which creates a stairway that you can climb to visit your friends, who live upstairs.

Doesn't solarpunk sound awesome! I just think it's cooler and more fun to write about a cozy future than one controlled by some technocratic dictatorship. And rebuilding a world based on books and science after an apocalypse? Awesome!

So I wanted to make a solarpunk RP! I kind of did some worldbuilding, and this is what I set up for the RP.

All the characters live in Citali, the capital. Citali is the center of solarpunk-y-ness, with the best architects, writers, scientists, gardeners (I'm not sure how to put this job exactly), and artisans. The problem that they have to solve is that they have to make the settlement bigger, and they'll work together to do it. However, they find evidence of the apocalypse as they build.

Name: Jocasta Tamar

Job: Writer/reader. She's a librarian.

Age: 14, but she's pretty mature.

Appearance: Amerasian, black hair, brown eyes, tan skin. Wears a hoodie and jeans with a charm bracelet that has book, pen, orchid, and sun charms.

Personality: Loves being part of a team, like being second (not first, but she has some good ideas and loves doing her job to help). Pretty experienced with science considering she's a librarian.

____________________________________________

Name: Nahla Alain

Job: Messenger. Works with all the leading artisans/scientists, knows everyone. Lives in this house in the dome of one of the older buildings. The dome is iron with glass filling in the gaps and Nahla has this gigantic tree growing from the floor to the top and its leaves just fill the 20-foot ceiling and make everything dappled. The dome is on top of the city center, so she knows everything going on in Citali.

Age: 15

Appearance: Brown hair, green eyes. Looks a little like Hermione Granger (third-year-ish). Wears brown leather army boots and carries a backpack all the time. Fidgets a little with the backpack straps.

Personality: Super friendly with everyone, has about 5 pet cats who are all different colors.

This must not end like this! If an rp is going to die, let it not die at a cliffhanger!

Several orders of business:

1. Top top! Pleeeeaase don't die, RP! At the same time I don't want to clog the thread with a ton of tops, so I'll keep this short(ish. no guarantees)

2. Oh my goodness, 121 posts? And too clogged with tops, either! Whoohoo!

3. Let's write! I feel a little bad, making a really awesome dramatic cliffhanger -- and then I have to resolve it. Whyyyy... :-)

Nahla~

"What do you know?" Allarie's eyes are like pieces of crystal -- sharp, strong. Her fingers rub the trigger of the dart gun still in her hand.

Holly cries, "What are you doing? She's given us information."

Allarie raises one eyebrow. "Has she? She's a target, Holly. That Rhyker," she gestures to the knocked-out bounty hunter on the ground, "was after her. She's from Fortis, which is the Rhykers' target, as far as we know." Allarie crumples the letter from the Rhyker in her hand. "The information we have is all from him."

Mel steps in. "So what if she's a target? Look at this letter!" She shakes Marina Persona's letter in Allarie's face. "We are the targets. We're the kids from fancy-pants Citali, stepping in to the Rhykers' plans. The Rhyker turns up for her, and he has all this information that is leading us to the Rhykers."

Allarie looks at her. “Don’t you think that’s suspicious?” She ticks things off on her fingers. “She’s on the side of Fortis that the Rhykers would have come from. If she was running, she should have run to the mountains. If the Rhykers know of us, I'm sure Fortis does. She was heading for us. The Rhyker just happened to wait around so long. He could have grabbed her and run, but he didn't. The letters he's carrying just happens to have all the Rhyker locations, plans, and people? Come on, thief. Isn't that more than a little suspicious?"

Lena frowns at both of them. "It is, but it's the best thing we've got, okay? Caljera, ride with me. Darius, can you strap that bounty hunter to the back of your bike? Let's get going to Fortis."

Soo... I'm stuck. No clue what to right, so I'll stuff some action in here.

Mel~

I frown at all of them, slightly grumpy for no reason. I hadn't got much sleep, and now we're leaving already.

"If that bounty hunter wakes up, we're dead," I grumble, eyeing the man carefully.

"Oh, no, that's not going to happen anytime soon," Allarie reassures me.

"I hope so," I mutter.

I hear rustling in the bushes...

"Guys... I think we got 'nother Rhyker on our ha-" I scream, feeling someone jerk me down onto the ground.

****

Yeah! More action to save this rp!

Snuggles says grop... What? Grip, you mean?

Yay, Danie! Let's top this!

Nahla~

"Guys..." Mel's eyes shoot around, but then she thumps to the ground. I step towards her, but also am tackled. My bike falls away from me, and I hit the dirt -- or in this case, the extremely painfully sharp obsidian desert pavement.

Much later, I blink and wake up. It's much later: sunset. We've lost a whole day here.

I look around. I think everyone's here... but wait. Where's Mel? Where's Caljera? Where are the Rhykers?

We're the only ones posting...

Mel~

As I wake up, I realize I'm in a very dark room. I frown, then remember what happened earlier. The man had wacked me in the head. My eyes adjust to the darkness and I look around.

I am tied to the wall with a heavy metal chain. No one is near me, and I try to crawl to the end of the room but I can't go any further. I hear groans from the next room but it is cut off suddenly.

Great. I'm stuck in a room with no one else. I grab my knife and start scraping against the chain. Surprisingly, it breaks easily, and I'm let go. I race to the other side of the room, wondering what was happening.

I saw a bit of light, and saw a guard walking past me with a torch. I slunk back, shivering at the light when my eyes were already adjusted.

"You, thief! How did you get out? Persona! Persona!!" the guard screeches. I groan, scrabbling out of reach from the guard. However, a lady strides over to me and glares at me with blazing eyes.

Marina. How did we get to Mergon? Shoot, shoot, shoot. I swear under my breath.

"So, thief, how's your trip? Did you enjoy doing something good instead of your usual job?" Marina jeers.

"Shut up, lady. It's not my fault I have to spend my days stealing from rich," I snarl. She slaps me with anger.

"You girl better shut your mouth. But then, we are going to kill you soon anyways... Unless, however, you agree to our deal," Persona hisses.

"What deal?" I growl. "What's in it for me?" I add despite myself.

"Right to the point, eh? Well then. If you join us, and help us, we will not kill you and give you enough money to make a living." She smiles.

"I-ohh...-um." I stutter... will it be worth it? "Can I trust you?"

"No, not really. But we will kill you if you don't work with us." Marina strolled away. "I will give you time to think."

I ponder quietly. What about Holly, Lena, Darius, and Allarie? What about Rameae, Caljera, and Nadya?... What about Nahla?... But... I will have a life... for once... I don't need friends!

"I made my desicion!" I call out.

"Well? What are you going to do? Join us, or be killed by us?" Marina smirks. I sigh and my eyes travel to the ground.

"...I-i  w-will j-join...." I take a deep breath. "I will j-join y-you.."

No! If this RP must die, not at an amazing plot twist!

I feel like the "only two people posting" thing always is me. Haha...

Nahla~

I shake the others awake. Everyone's fine, just a little bruised. There's no evidence of whoever came. Caljera's gone, Mel's gone, the Rhyker hunter is gone.

"There's nothing to do," I say, resigned. "We can't hunt for them. We need to get to Fortis and help out, find out everything we can."

We slowly get onto our bikes and resolutely start biking. We should reach Fortis by noon. All of us are determined to get there.

Darius~

We bike in silence for most of the morning. I don't think anyone wants to talk about Mel's disappearance, and I don't blame them. Our main priority is to get to Fortis before sundown so we don't have to risk another night in this obsidian wasteland.

Fortis is just over the mountains, and luckily we're so close to them now that they loom over us like Ricky giants. After a few hours of biking, we finally enter a village in the foothills. And to my pleasant surprise, there's patches of grass. Something I haven't seen much of since we left Citali.

The village appears to be deserted, just like the one we found Caljera in. All except for one man who sits on the porch of a small hut, eyeing us suspiciously. We walk as nonchalantly past the man as we can, and start to look for a route through the mountains.

The main road goes straight through them, but it's really steep, with no siderails. "There's no way we're getting our bikes up there," I say to the others. I look reluctantly towards the man on the porch. I didn't really want to talk to him, but he may be our only hope.

"Um, excuse me, sir?" I ask. The man just raises his eyebrows. "Are there any other routes through the mountains?"

The man clears his throat...it sounds like he hasn't spoken in weeks... and points a scrawny arm to an opening in the rock surface a few yards left of the main road. "That cave's perfectly flat," and it'll take ya straight to Fortis," he says. "But it's so dark in there you can't see your own hand in front of your face, not to mention the critters lurking down there. What road you take is not my decision. So take your pick."

Nadya-

I help Ramae wheel her bike into the cool, dim cave opening. The cave isn't wet, just much colder than the outside air. The ground dips down gradually as we unsteadily make our way deeper inwards.

After a minute or two, there is so little light that I step on Darius's foot and Ramae's foot at the same time. All three of us swear in unision. I must weigh a lot. Someone is rustling around in front of me, and then a solar-powered lantern is throwing brilliant rays across my face. With the added light, no one steps on anyone else's feet anymore. We just shuffle onwards, thinking melancholy thoughts about who knows what.

The decline is getting steeper and steeper now, almost an hour into our journey in the tunnel. A drip of water falls on my head, trickles across my scalp, and down my back, making me shudder. I can see everyone else shudder too, as the drops fall steadily downwards. It may be damp, but at last we are heading upwards again. Thank goodness.

Just as I am about to whisper to Ramae about the fact that the tunnel is finally tilting up, I notice a funny whoshing sound. I can see Nahla noticed it too- she tilts her head sideways as thought listening intently to something. Then she blanches, and grabs my arm.

"Run!"

Sorrysorrysorry I haven't posted in FOREVER!!!

~Lena~

Tunnel terrors.

I know these things from my extensive natural history classes, so when Nahla screams "Run!!" I run. As fast as I can possibly make myself go. They're like huge white hairless bats, genetically engineered for use in the war. They stand as tall as a small child, their wingspan is at least twelve feet, they have cruel talons instead of the normal little bat feet, and their blind eyes sparkle a hideous beady red in the light of the power lamp. When they realize we've noticed them, the screams begin: earsplitting screeches so loud and high that they seem to burrow into the center of my brain, suffusing it with agony. I clap my hands over my ears, but it hardly helps the endless excruciating noise echoing around and around the cave, making me feel like I must be going deaf with the pain. It's all I can do to keep running, no idea where just GO GO GO, desperately hoping that the next second I won't feel claws tearing through my flesh.

************

Dun dun dun!!! That's all I can come up with right now, as I'm a little bit confused where I'm supposed to be and also I don't think I should be on Cricket and I'm semi-exhausted anyway. Is that too many excuses?

Nahla~

Tunnel terrors?! Our luck can't get worse. I shut off the light so they can't hunt us, but now it's pitch black. I drop my bike, snatch my backpack, and run, one hand on Lena's shoulder so I don't lose her.

The screams go on and on, even as Lena and I emerge into the evening. We take deep breaths.

"I got my backpack and the flashlight, but not the bike," I say.

Lena bends over, breathing hard. "Just the water and food in my bag. My bike's in there, too."

"Did you see anyone else?"

She bites her lip, wide-eyed, and slowly shakes her head.
