The Eld-Bloods were

Chatterbox: Inkwell

The Eld-Bloods were

The Eld-Bloods were cherished.

And rare.

Sometimes they didn't know what they were, sometimes they did. But at some point, the Elders find them.

Rescue them.

Bring them to safety.

The Eld-Bloods are always in danger. Like Half-Bloods (read Percy Jackson), the monsters can catch their scent. Monsters, Eld-Bloods gone bad. No one knows how the first one was created. No one ever will. But they were there, they were always there, the ones who let the evil control them, the ones that mutated and became monstrous, inhuman.

Hunting the Eld-Bloods.

Hunting.

____

If you haven't guessed, Eld-Bloods are creatures. Mythical or not, whatever you want. Make something up if you'd like. The youngest Eld-Bloods are searched for and brought to a school hidden in the core of the Earth, where they are taught how to control and endure their powers, at the same time being kept safe. The Elders are their teachers, and the Eldest the leader of them all.

The Eldest is a dragon, a gigantic red dragon. He's a good creature, speaks and controls himself. But like all dragons, he needs to breathe. Most Eld-Bloods have special needs such as this, and the Eld Academy (although they just call it the Academy) takes care of them. It's not uncommon for children to vanish on the full moon, or eat only raw meat.

There are many types of students at the Academy, and they all approach this differently. Some will just tell what they are. Some will treat it as more of a secret and tell select people. Some will tell no one, absolutely no one and keep their secret as close to them as possible. And some prey on the ones who do not tell and try to get them to.

A new group of students has just come in. You can be one of them or an older student.

The rules:
-Be rational with your Eld-Blood, please. If there are already three werewolves, say, choose something else. And try to think about how rare certain creatures would be. For example, a harpy is probably a lot less known than a vampire, so there will probably be more vampires than there will be harpies.

-Again, diversity, with the secret-keeping. I'd prefer if there were more of the first two, a few of the last one, and a small number of the remaining. And if there are, say, three I-won't-keep-a-secrets, three tell-select-peoples, two tell-no-ones, and one tell-your-secret, try to be the latter.

-No OPs. I think this goes without saying. If you're a dragon, give it a weak spot. And, accordingly, let's not have any under-powers either. You may be a mouse animagus, but that doesn't mean you have to be a coward.

The charrie sheet:

Name:

Age: School age, remember. Although if you're immortal, just ignore that.

Appearance:

Personality: Be sure to at least imply what type of secret-keeper you are here.

Creature:

Powers:
Backstory:

Other:

My charrie:

Name: Aoife (Ee-fah)

Age: 10

Appearance: Screen Shot 2016 03 26 at 12 44 31 PM

Plus a white coat that she always, always wears. Small for her age.

Personality: Very, very shy. She rarely speaks, and when she does she tumbles over the words. She acts younger than she is. Her species, to her, is her deepest, darkest secret and only the Elders know about it. To herself, though, she describes her soul as a fireplace, and all it needs is some more gas.

Creature: Selkie. Selkies can't speak without their coats, which double as skins (see Powers). They're from Irish mythology and are always female.

Powers: Selkies have incredible singing voices, and for this some myths depict them a bit like the Greek's Sirens, luring sailors to their deaths. As long as they have their coat, which is their sealskin, they can turn into seals.

Backstory: A new student, Aoife grew up in Ireland, and English is not her first language (yes, I know they mostly speak English in Ireland, but Irish is a language, believe it or not). Her mother vanished shortly after she was born, and her father was killed by a monster hunting her.

Other: None

St. Owl, I forgot to add that Shasta and Saki are new at the school. Sorry!

Saki~

I look around anxiously for Shasta. Where is she? What is this place? As I scan the room with my eagle-like gaze, I skip over a flash of blue, and immediately look back at it. It's Kiria! And next to her... Is Shasta. Oh, thank goodness. I think as I walk over. I don't know what I would've done if I haden't found her. Shasta and Kiria are standing over by a large red dragon speaking on a wooden platform. "... And DO NOT pester." He finishes just as I walk over. "Kiria, where did you take us? This... place is like, I don't know, a-" Shasta cuts me off. "Kiria told me this is an academy for people like us, Eld-bloods. She's a minor Eld." My half pegasus, half human friend is an Eld? Whatever that is. "What is an Eld? What sort of academy is this?" I ask. Kiria replies "It's a school for people like you two and me. As Shasta already told you. Elds are elder Eld-bloods, and Eld-bloods are you and me. You know-" "Freaks?" I interrupt. All of my memories of teasing and ridiculing come rushing back. "No." Kiria says firmly. "We are not freaks. That is what people would have us believe, but it is not the truth. We are special, that's all. I know that it's a lot to take in, but it's really normal for us." "Fine." I relent. "We're only special." But I don't feel that way. I add silently. "Let me show you two to your dorm." Kiria says cheerily, leading us up the stairs.

Shasta~

What Saki said really got into my nerves. Freaks? I've always tried to pretend that we're normal. Everyone else is just like us, trying to keep a secret. But then again, I've always thought I was the only one with these minor insecurities. And to find out Saki feels the same way? Well, that just adds to it. Here, now, I thought we might be able to fit in, but I can feel eyes watching us. I bet they're laughing at us, trying to make us feel insecure. Like we aren't already. Well, I won't let it show on me. I straighten a bit and quicken my pace, looking down for a few seconds. A girl with red hair that has blond bits in it looks right back up at me. (That's Aithne, if you don't mind, Indigo.) I jerk my gaze away and focus on Saki.

That's the end of my post. Hope you enjoy!

No, I mean Chinese characters, not pinyin. I've tried posting characters and you take them out.
I don't read Chinese characters. Whatever you submit is subject to review by Admins. We try to be fair. Context and tone may make a difference, too.
Admin
I did characters in context once, too, and it was taken out. Also, does that mean you read Irish? You let Irish post and then you said that you can't post Chinese because you can't read it, so I've come to that conclusion.

Yes, some words, a few phrases.

Of course, Cho. Also, l forgot to say that Kathryn is loose about her secret, she wouldn't say it out right but she doesn't take much of an effort to keep it hidden.

Kathryn~

l try to hold back my giggles. Nichole is a bit of a jerk, true, but she's not as idiotic as a peacock. She's a lot smarter then she looks. Still, amusing.

There was a welcome speech for the new students today, l did go, even though l've been here for a few months. A small, black haired girl which l had saw is sitting by Fae, who stares at her for a bit longer then normal. She finally mutters something under her breath, but the girl quickly looks away. i know she heard Fae, she's pretending not to have. Fae stares for a second longer, then looks away. I am a bit confused. Everyone has their secrets here, Fae. She is no different then anyone else. I feel sorry for her.

I turn my attention back to my food. I haven't nearly begin to meet everyone here, l'm one of the older, mortal students, which means that I will not stay here as long as some of them will. Which is disappointing.

I finish eating, and then explain to Fae that I want to go meet the other students, and get up.

In the hallway, I glance around before morphing into a cat. I like it better. People don't notice me as much as they would if l was a person.

Aether~

I don't like crowds. Too noisy, too full of people too full of themselves. With all of their emotions just swirling around. Confusing. But, as today we welcome more students, as l always do, l stay in the shadows, feeling each of their minds. Most are very nervous, some radiant pure terror, some are board others confused. I've been here for so long that I'm not really a student anymore, they have nothing left to teach me, l'm only here because l have nowhere to go. And so, like all sphinxes are supposed to do, l guard it. The Elders do not know of this, l'm simply another Eld-Blood, hiding from the world.

It happened once, long ago enough that np one talks about it anymore but not so far that it is forgotten. Somehow, a monster got in the Academy. It killed many students and many more were lost in the chaos. It was a dark day for the Academy. I so, I the lost sphinx, finally settled down on that day. Now I guard the Academy. Now I have a purpose.

For hundreds of years I have been doing so faithfully. There have been monster scares, but never has one showed up.....yet. It is my duty to keep this place and its secrets safe. The outside world is dangerous.

I get a few glances as usual, there are not many of y kind left, we're immortal but we're not invincible. Some day we will fall.

The Elder finishes his speech and the students start to break up, wandering around a bit. I catch the faint scent of something from one of the students, an older boy, who the over students avoid because fire keeps randomly springing along his fingertips. That is something that l haven't smelled in a long time. Something that l remember quite well. Monster. It's faint and old, but still there. This one has touched a monster and is living. Hardly anyone ever does that. I stand up and quickly step from the shadows, nosing my way through the crowd of students. The boy looks up as l approach him. I don't like to make a scene, but I need to find out who he really is. I lean back on my hind legs, preparing to jump. I wouldn't harm him that much, the Elders would not like that, however that doesn't mean that I can scare the truth out of him. No monster is getting in here.

~Nicohle~

"Grandmére..." I whine. All magicless languages come easily to me after our travels; but French rolls off my tongue the finest, melting halfway down my throat like the fine chocolate of Switzerland. "They are foolish and jealous; the dullshine know nothing of sneaking or spinning, too wary of evil to know there is none between..."

"Cabqu!" The alpha Veela snaps. "Do you know nothing that I teach? The Academy is not a house of magic teaching... it will teach you nothing you do not know, for Thrall is Wild Magic. The Academy worries young Eld cannot break the hold of dorthkan; and makes a place for them to stay, and toys for them to play with; no, the Academy will teach how to play meniquen. And if you make them dance and play as well as even I, you are truly ours, not by birthright but in your own right."

I bow my head. "For this honor, I will endure the foolish dullshine."

Grandmére nods. "Go then, and make me proud."

~

Even remembering the great honor enduring this school will bring, it takes less than a day for cracks to begin in my resolve. The loud chatter of the nymph is abrasive on my ears; around me chatering dullshines wander, sloppily gobbling up food. I sit down, and am sooned joined by two dullshines; but they greet me rudely with a breif introduction, and then completely ignoring me. Shrieking with laughter at my expense, one dullshine even compares me to a peacock. Foolish, magicless animal. They believe that is my heritage. When my cold gaze falls on her, she finally realizes her mistake and shuts her mouth.

I barely touch the food. Even magicless food is better than this; dry sandwiches filled with clumpy tuna slathered with some sort of fatty white paste; it makes me miss the rich fullness of Persian food, the delicate taste of fish wrapped in moist rice; anything would be better than this.

Unsure of how to hold such a thing, I move it around it my hands for a minute before settling on holding one side in my hand and taking little bites of the crust that hasn't been touched by the canned tuna or odd white paste. No one seems to be watching me, so I put the sandwich the nymph offered to one side, half hidden. "Her taste in food is as bad as her chattering," I hiss under my breath. I add a thin layer of chocolate sauce to a piece of bread and take a bite. While nowhere near my usual standards, it is not as repulsive as the first dish. Eating quickly but neatly, I leave the dining room to go find my dorm.

Jack~

The other students part around me, like a river around a rock, as they gather in a crowd. I realize because that is because l keep sprouting off sparks that land everywhere, burning small dents into the floor and leaving a smoky smell in the air. I look over all of the people gathered here in this hall. So many of them. So crowded. I have yet to decided weather I really like it here or not. It's big, all of it. The hallways are dark stone, some of them hot to the touch, as if there is a monster burning up behind the walls. There's nothing to burn here, though. No trees, or buildings. The rock walls are rough and dented, I doubt that it is natural. I liked burning things, above ground, watching as they slowly curled up in the scarlet flames and then died, but here the only thing that will burn is.....people.

I have minimal control over my fire at best, but now because I feel so very nervous I have nearly none at all. So I mean, if I set someone on fire, it really isn't my fault, is it?

There now is a smoky haze in the air, and l'm pretty sure that the floor that l'm standing on is ruined for good. I'm trying to pay attention to what's around me but it's terribly boring, and I'm just trying not not set anything on fire.

And suddenly behind me there is quite whisper of feather and scratching of claws. I spin around, to face a sphinx, starting to spring from the ground, wings out stretched, front claws extended forward, I don't have enough time to react, in a split second I am slammed to the floor, a snarling face of a black haired woman above me, lion paws pressing down on me. A roaring pain, more noise then feeling, rushes to my head.

For a few stunned seconds, everything hangs there, uncertain. And then I finally start thinking again.

“Well....that was unnecessary.” l gasp, trying to breath and feebly flapping a slightly smashed wing, now making the wood curl under fiery feathers and raising smoke. An inhuman, lion snarl comes out of the sphinx's grated teeth. One of the Elders, a tall stately vampire, shoves through the students, growling a word to the sphinx. The sphinx refuses to get off of me. “Tell me.” She demands. “tell me, why do you smell like monster?”

“What? Monster?”

l summon a fake smile, covering up my pain. I've smiled a thousand times like this before, when people ask the wrong questions. I smile because it hurts. Badly. Like stabbing me in the heart and twisting the knife. But, oh yes, I still smile, as brightly as ever.

The shafts of my feathers crackle under the weigh of the sphinx, as she leans closer to me. Her breath smells ancient and vile, her teeth, despite belonging to a human head, too sharp looking.

“Don't try to lie to me. You're touched a monster. Why are you still alive?”

“What, you want me dead?” l reply, weakly smiling. That same smile, the answer to everything.

I can tell that she wants to scream. The Elder pulls her away, but she gives me one last glance. She isn't going to stop until she finds out. Well fine, I'm not going to tell her.

I am helped to my feet, but there is a burned imprint of large bird's wings in the wood floor. I unsteadily try to keep my balance. What was wrong with that sphinx? I smell a bit like monster, so what? Talk about overreacting. I am thrown a few questioning glances by other students, however I hate the questions, unspoken or otherwise, so I quickly get out of there. My head still hurts, but the questions will be worse.

According to the Elders, today and tomorrow the new students will be allowed to wander around and explore, to get to know each other. Nothing, frankly, could ever sound worse.

Ok, guys, I'm really really sorry, I know I said I would join, but I won't have time to post on another RP. I've just been really bust lately, and haven't been on the CB much. It's a cool idea, St. Owl, but I'm not going to have time to post on this. I'm dropping out. (even though I never even posted my charrie). I'm sorry. =(

I'm confused. Who is the nymph?

submitted by Mei
(March 30, 2016 - 3:39 pm)

Sorry this is short.

Panthea~ I'm so confused! The dragon is intimidating, but I can deal with that. When I'm full grown, I bet I'll be bigger than him. Only..... I'm not full grown yet. I'm just a child. A puppy, if you will. One born lately. I've got a long way to go. The Core of the Earth is surprisingly.... Not hot, I guess. All the elders in my tribe told stories and myths of how the Earth was filled with molten lava, but then again they were elders and their stories could've changed over time. I turn my thoughts away from my tribe. It reminds me of everything I've lost, and especially Erianthe. I sigh, and then wonder what is going to happen in the Core.

On a brighter note, there's an amiable looking Griffin. Maybe we could be friends? I'm about to walk over to her to say hi and introduce myself when a short boy with wings tucked into his back stops me. "You're a new student, aren't you?" he says. He seems kind of nervous and on edge. "Yeessssss?" I answer slowly, rattling my own wings nervously. "Er- why?" He taps his foot impatiently. Impatience? Where'd that come from? He seemed alright! "I have to show you around. Are you coming or not?"

~~~
Coconut, could Shasta and Panthea be friends, even though Shasta's a year older?
That would be great, Scylla! Any particular way you want that to come around? @ St. Owl: You know your Hunger Games RP? I'm sorry, but I don't think that I can do that RP. It's kind of hard for me to focus on something that is a series, book, or movie which I haven't watched out read, because- well, I don't get thing things right. I could do so much better if I knew about it. I'll post later.
