 CBERS AT CAMP

 CBERS AT CAMP HALF-BLOOD

Hello!

I just finished reading through Indigo's old Zombie Apocalypse, and I decided I wanted to write another single-writer story. Therefore, I present to you. . . us! At Camp Half-Blood.

A few rules before you skirt to the bottom of this post to sign up:

1. No AEs or CAPTCHAs, please. It's much more difficult to have them add to a plot, and their already-gifted abilities would be a hinderance rather than a help.

2. You may write journal entries, but please don't make any moves further on in the plot.

3. Once I start writing, I won't accept any more people. I'm going to draw the line at about eight, not including myself.

And some notes:

1. Please don't get cross if I portray you incorrectly. I'll do the best I can, but I can't guarantee you will be exactly your true self.

2. It is possible some of you may die, but not many.

3. I'm going to use a system similar to Brooke's:

MAIN CHARACTERS: Exactly what they sound like.

SECONDARIES: You will show up often, but are more likely to die and aren't going to be focused on as much.

TERTIARY: You will most likely show up later in the story, and perform a small but important deed. You are the most likely to die, but you might also join the quest.

4. No, we're not going to realize "Hey! You're from the CB!"

5. Yes, you can be Roman, as this is post-Percy.

Okay! Here's the sheet and some explinations:

CBER NAME:

AGE:

 GENDER:

CBER APPEARANCE: Make it realistic and highly detailed

PERSONALITY: Moderately detailed, so I have something to work off of

ANY FIGHTING EXPERIENCE:

PREFERRED WEAPON: If you already know how to use one, great! If not, what do you imagine yourself using and/or what's the most awesome?

GODLY PARENT: Can be minor-- If you aren't sure, think about preferred powers.

HOBBIES:

LOCATION: It can be a fake location, but preferably in the US (and not fantastical)

 MC, SECONDARY, OR TERTIARY?:

@St. Owl You are doing an awesome job with your equally awesome idea! I just have a couple questions.

1. When you are done, would you mind if I copied all the parts into a giant post so we could read it start to finish?

2. Will I be Greek or Roman? As I haven't showed up yet, I'm just curious and don't care either way.

Again, great job!

Young Writer: If you check part III, "TARDISrider was fighting some Dionysus kids, assisted by a Caucasain girl with curly brown hair called Young Writer." So you're Greek.

And no, I don't mind if you copy it into one big post! The length these things are going, though, it's going to take quite a while to read. xD

I just need to finish browsing for today, then I'll post a new segment!

PART V

When St.Owl woke up the next morning, most people were already gone from their beds. She had taken advantage of the you-can-really-start-your-day-whenever curriculum at Camp Half-Blood to heart, and was finally able to keep her schedule in the natural fashion in which she was designed: go to sleep at 12, wake up at 11. Hey, a good eleven (maybe twelve if she was lucky) hours of sleep never hurt anyone!

As she made her way to the mess hall that morning, she noticed Ashlee waiting for her.

"Grab something to eat and let's go," she said. "Chiron's called an emergency meeting and he says that the second-in-commands should come too."

St.Owl grabbed two pieces of honey-and-cinnamon toast and followed Ashlee to the Big House. She'd never really been to a conference before, as it was usually just the head counselors that came. Extra chairs had been pulled up for the second-in-commands, so no one at the ping-pong table really had any elbow room.

Joan was sitting across from her, next to the Ares head counselor, a fourteen-year-old named Jesus. He was Latino, and his name was actually pronounced "Hey zeus," but nobody called him that because they were worried that Zeus might overhear them and think they were being sassy, so they called him a nickname he'd earned during his first Capture the Flag game: Plume, as he had a signature helmet whose plume was made out of very metal, very painful spikes.

Kai was also there, as second-in-command for the Apollo cabin. His dark hair curled at the ends, which reached his shoulders, and he was very tanned from all of his time in the sun. Cockleburr, being the only daughter of Poseidon, did not have a second-in-command. St.Owl knew a lot of the rest of the people there, especially the second-in-commands, as they had their own network of communication.

"So, what's up, Chiron?" asked Kai, leaning over the table. The head of the Apollo cabin, Mia, was shooting dirty looks at Ashlee, St.Owl, and Joan-- Joan only because she had gotten the flag. The Apollo cabin had won a stupendous victory against the Demeter cabin the evening previously, and had obviously been expecting something similar.

"We've got a big problem," said Chiron, "but before I start to explain, will everyone turn their heads to the fountain, please?"

The fountain was an installment after the war against Gaea so long ago. It was to keep in contact with Camp Jupiter via Iris-message, which the Romans couldn't use nearly as well, but could still recieve fine. Chiron tossed a drachma into the rainbow that the fountain was creating, saying, "O Iris, goddess of the rainbow, accept my offering."

The drachma vanished once it hit the rainbow, so Chiron said, "Praetor Mirax T. at Camp Jupiter, please."

In a moment, the pigtailed girl's face was looking through the rainbow. "Oh, hello, everyone!" she said quickly. "What's happening?"
"Mirax, we've got a pretty big problem," said Chiron.

"Which we don't know about!" said Joan. There was a bit of a cut in her words, but St.Owl thought (knowing Joan rather well) that her comment was mostly for reminder purposes.

"Yes," said Chiron. He took a quick breath before saying, "There's a chimaera in Texas. Multiple, actually. We only know because a lone satyr came back this morning. He said the demigod he'd been trying to pick up was killed, as well as another satyr who had been in the area."

There was a quickly stifled "Oh dear!" from Cockleburr. St.Owl starting tapping her fingers on the table, one-two-three-four.

"'Oh dear' is right," said Chiron, inclining his head towards the daughter of Poseidon. "The chimaera is argueably the most dangerous monster in Greek mythology. We're still not sure which camp they're heading towards, but they're hot on somebody's scent. I would propose a quest."

Ashlee sat up straighter in her chair.

"And you want some kids from Camp Jupiter too?" said Mirax.

"Yes," replied Chiron. "The more the merrier, I would say. Perhaps they could meet up."

"How many do you want?"

"As many able fighters as you can spare. I would suggest leaving plenty at Camp Jupiter in case of attack, however."

Mirax grinned. "I know just who to send."

"Excellent."

The communication stopped.

"Counselors, I want you to find some people to go on the quest," said Chiron. "Not many, mind you, and we will have to do some picking and choosing. Find some good fighters who are ready to come."

St.Owl paused before getting up. As soon as Chiron had spoken, one very loud question came up: Should I go?

On the one hand, she'd been on no quests for five years. She was no doubt ready for the challenge-- all of her mythology books? She must find a good way to beat a chimaera. She had the brains for sure, and the fighting abilities to boot. But she was dreadfully scared.

This will be my only chance to get out of here! St.Owl told herself. Camp Half-Blood was fun, but after a while it got boring. A quest would be something new and exciting.

All right. She was going.

When the councelors arrived, it was with a whole squadron of people to come on the quest. After a while, the questers were decided to be: St.Owl, Ashlee, Joan, Mei-xue, Young Writer, TARDISrider, and Cockleburr.

"Seven," Chiron had said, firmly. "That's the largest quest group I will ever permit, and this is only the second time I've ever done so. And Mirax is sending campers as well, remember."

"Yeah, and I notice practically all of these are Athena kids!" snapped Mia, who had also been at Camp Half-Blood for a very long time and was probably the best archer there. It seemed that her hatred for Athena was not to be loosened easily.

"That is my final decision," said Chiron calmly, but with a firmness that indicated that further arguements would not be tolerated.

Mia turned on her heel and stormed out of the Big House.

Chiron sent another Iris-message to Camp Jupiter, where Mirax had her campers, all girls: Brookiera, a daughter of Neptune, Indigo, and September, who were both daughters of Bellona. The Camp Half-Blood questers introduced themselves, and then they arranged a place to meet.

"What about New Mexico?" suggested Brookiera. "It's close to the center of the US, kind of. Plus, it's right by Texas, so we'd be closer to the chimaeras when we need to attack them. And I come from there, so I know my way around."
Everyone seemed okay with New Mexico, so she said to go to Hampton Inn in Albuquerque. They agreed, and cut off the connection again.

The seven questers for Camp Half-Blood hurried back to their cabins to pack.

Bluebird and Cho, I know you haven't been mentioned yet, but don't worry. I've got something special planned for you, you'll just turn up later in the story.

And by the way, any feedback on your personalities-- how you talk, if you would actually say what I made you say-- would be appreciated as long as you can word it nicely. I want to try and make them as much like you as possible. :)

No, St. Owl, you are doing great for my personality and character! I was also very glad to see I will be on the quest, even if that means a possible death on my end. I am looking forward to the two groups meeting to go on the Quest. I have a feeling you have something... peculiar planned.

Last post was amazing as always!

PART VI

The seven questers met up by Thalia's pine tree the next morning. St.Owl was wearing a blue t-shirt with a picture of a dragon reading Lancelot, with a caption saying Do I have to read the swooning parts? Ashlee was wearing black jeans and a wolf t-shirt. Joan was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and jeans. Chiron had told them to go incognito, so no one was wearing the Camp Half-Blood t-shirt.

"I think we should probably figure out how we're going to get to Albuquerque first," said Ashlee.

"Maybe by boat?" suggested Cockleburr.

"No, New Mexico isn't by the ocean," said Mei-xue.

"Air?" said Joan.

"Too much security," said St.Owl. "Tickets are expensive, too, and most of us are minors, so we'd have to be accompanied by an adult. Maybe train?"

"That's equally expensive," TARDISrider said. "How are we supposed to afford seven train tickets from New York to Albuquerque?"

"I've got something we could use," Young Writer said. She held out a piece of blank paper. "This is psychic paper. I got it from Mom. We could use it to show seven fake train tickets."
"Like in Doctor Who!" said St.Owl brightly. "That sounds good."

The others agreed.

____

The road from Camp Half-Blood is rarely used. Even so, the questers walked along the curb in single file. Nothing passed them, however, and despite their strong scent there were no attacks. The most exciting moment was when a lizard scuttled by.

However, as they were reaching the end of the road, they saw a girl with big round glasses and chin-length brown hair clutching a Jane Austen novel sitting on the curb.

"Booksy!" said Mei. "What are you doing here?"

"Oh!" said Booksy, looking nervous that so many faces were staring at her. "W-well. . . I'm visiting my dad. I'm not really very violent, and there wasn't much for me to do at Camp Half-Blood, so Chiron let me go. . . I'll have to c-come back, of course, but I never got to say goodbye. . ."

"Well, you shouldn't be on your own," said Young Writer matter-of-factly, "especially if you don't want to fight. The monsters will pick up your scent."

"Well, I'd much r-rather just get home," said Booksy. "You can go and chase chimaeras, but I'd rather just read."

"It'll be much safer with us," Ashlee assured her. "And you don't have to help us fight."

Booksy paused. "Okay. But only until Boston."
___

Once in the city, it was very easy to find a train to Albuquerque at Penn Station. The questers got on with time to spare, and were able to spend some leisure time.

St.Owl extracted Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince from her bag and started reading it, shouting at Harry from time to time to stop following Malfoy around and get the stupid memory! Young Writer was doing a big book of logic puzzles, and Cockleburr was sketching. Ashlee and Mei had computers out and were playing video games. Joan and TARDISrider were writing, and Booksy was reading Jane Austen.

The day passed in silence, and it was when the sun was setting that their car tipped over.

In the blink of an eye, the seven had lept up, weapons out (Booksy dove under a seat). The window that they had been sitting by smashed, and a creature that was half-lion, half-eagle lept into the train. The passengers screamed and ran for the exits.

"We outnumber it!" said Mei. "Eight to one!"

Automatically, St.Owl began shouting out commands. "Joan, Mei-- right side! Ashlee, on the left with me! Young Writer and TARDISrider, try to get on its back!"

"Its back?" said TARDISrider, scandalized, but Young Writer had already lept up.

"What about me?" shouted Cockleburr.

"Blast it in the face with water!"
The sheer onslaught was too much for the gryphon, and it fell, still snapping at Cockleburr. Suddenly, Pride and Prejudice came down hard on its head.

"Nice one, Booksy!" said Mei, as Joan decapitated the monster. It disintegrated.

Booksy looked rather pleased with herself.

There was an evacuation, but the train car was not badly damaged, and everyone was able to re-board. The conductor announced that they would arrive at Albuquerque at 3:00 the next day.

3:00 could not come fast enough, thought St.Owl, as she fell into an uneasy sleep.

@Ashlee, I believe mortals is the word your looking for. Most can't see through the mist, so they don't see the actual monster, but they would see something, such as a regular lion instead of a chimera. (Or a very large fire breathing chihuhua :])
