I don't know what to call this RP. Emily Windsnap RP? Mermaid RP? Those don't sound very interesting.
You DO NOT have to have read the Emily Windsnap books to participate in this RP. It is only based off of the books. We will be using the same I-turn-into-a-mermaid-when-I-go-in-water concept. That's pretty much all that is the same.
You can be one of the following: A kid ages 10-18 who turns into a mermaid/merman when they touch the water, a regular mermaid/merman, or a sea creature.
If you are one of the kids that turns into a mermaid/merman when they touch the water:
You are the child of a mermaid/merman and a regular human. This results in your ability to change form depending on whether you're on land or not. You're dangerous.
At least in the eyes of the merpeople, you are.
They have been raised knowing that humans are their number one enemy. Hybrids like yourself, well, they think you are even more of a threat. They've been taught to destroy all hybrids on sight. You look exactly like a normal merperson in the water, though, so you're safe. For now.
If you are a regular mermaid/merman:
From a young age, you've been taught that hybrids are even more dangerous that humans. And humans- they're the cause of almost all the merpeople's problems. But, you've heard rumors of hybrids returning to the water, returning home. How could this be true?
If you were, by chance, to catch one, it would be of the highest honor to kill it. You would be rewarded greatly.
If you are a sea creature:
You live side by side with the merpeople. They may be violent at times, but you respect each other- right now. With the rumors of "dangerous" hybrids coming back to the sea, tensions are brewing, and innocent merpeople are being captured and killed. Everyone speaks the same language underwater, so you can understand the merpeople and the hybrids. What they're saying at the moment, though, are things you're not sure you want to hear.
The setting:
The merchildren's school is in a place called Seashell Cove. It's off the coast of California.
We do not have a name for the school yet. If you have ideas, please share.
So, the plot:
The hybrids are being sent to an underwater school by their human parent, because they need to learn how to control themself as a merperson as well as a human. Little did they know, hybrids are not safe in the merpeople's realm.
The merchildren go to the same school as the hybrids. As I've said before, they've been taught that hybrids are dangerous. (This is a misconception, but they don't know that) If they caught one, it would bring great honor to them and their family.
The sea creatures don't really go to school. They are friends with the merchildren, though, because many young sea creatures live in Seashell Cove and hang out around the school.
You may have up to 2 charries. Lavender and I (we're doing it together) will start once 3-5 people join, but there's no limit to how many people can join.

He darted through the water, scanning the sea floor for any sign of movement. There. A fat yellowtail swam lazily through the water, unsuspecting of any predator. This was why Marius liked to hunt here; the prey weren't used to many merpeople. He gripped his spear. With one quick motion, he lifted it over his head and threw it directly at the fish. It would've hit it right between the eyes, where Marius always aimed, if it weren't for the fishing boat that roared by right overhead.
The yellowtail swam out of the way just as the spear would've hit it's mark. This was why not many merpeople hunted there; there were too many humans, it was dangerous. Marius sighed. The only reason he still came here was because it was the last place that he and his brother had been together. It was their secret spot, you could say. And then, as always, the humans had to mess everything up. Why couldn't they just stay out of the water? Why couldn't they stop spilling their oil and throwing their trash all over the place? It made him sick. He couldn't see how they could treat the earth so terribly.
He turned the other direction, retrieved his spear, and swam towards Seashell Cove, where his home was. School started the next day, and the waters were getting darker and darker. That meant the sun was going down. Marius didn't want to be late on his first day, so he quickly emptied his net of fish out and made sure they were all dead. Then, he curled up on his bed of seaweed, and drifted into a deep sleep.

With dawning horror, I realize I am being watched.
A merperson sits out on the waves. I cover my face and bolt inside, locking the door behind me.

Water streams past my fins—blue and green, with hints of gold from the sunset. It's funny how, when you live in water, you get so used to it that you forget it's liquid. Especially where it is deeper. But when you break the surface, the white bubbles and ripples and wetness remind you of water. Maybe it's the contrast between the air and water. I love breaking the surface, especially now, at sunset. In front of me, I see the water growing clearer and clearer until at last I explode outwards into the night air. There is land nearby, close enough so that I can make out the individual trees along the shore. Something is swimming very close to the shore. A merperson perhaps? But I soon realize that it can't be, because the figure draws itself out of the water. But I was so sure that I saw a flash of scales! Then it hits me. A hybrid! I call out in loud chatters, trying to tell the hybrid to stay and tell me what sand and tree bark and rocks feel like. But it runs away quickly, as if frightened. I look around. A few feet away, there is a real merperson sticking out of the water. Just heads and shoulders siloueted against the shadowy sunset. Enough to make any hybrid flee, especially with tensions running high.

NAME: Seraphina (Nickname: Sera)

TYPE (Merperson, hybrid, or sea creature): Hybrid
APPEARANCE: Somewhat nymph-like features. Waist length, wavy, silver-blonde hair. Arctic blue eyes. Tail is shimmery and flame-colored.
PERSONALITY: Loyal to friends, reserved towards those who she doesn't know well, observant, smart, her emotions can be easily seen in her face/ body language, depite her best efforts to not let them, doesn't give up easily, very aware of how her words/ actions affect the people around her, mischevious.
WEAPON (optional): A silver dagger, mostly used for self-defense, but she knows how to attack with it as well.
BACKSTORY: None.
OTHER: Loves the musical Hamilton.
