PART TWO

Inktail bounded thought the darkening forest, her black tail swishing back and forth. Eaglestorm…Eaglestorm…Eaglestorm…. The name rang through her head over and over. The lean, handsome warrior from ThunderClan. Eaglestorm.

She increased her pace, thoughts bouncing all around in her head. She had been seeing him today. Usually that wouldn’t be a problem in her Clan—except that he was from ThunderClan, and she was from RiverClan. Relationships between cats form different cause were strictly forbidden, but Inktail couldn’t help it…she had met him at a Gathering, and things had escalated from there.

The cat sighed softly and continued to run, her paws pounding against the dirt and grass. If she wasn’t back by sundown, her friends might be worried. She had said she was going out hinting, which wouldn’t be a complete lie if she could pick up a mouse or two on the way back. She swiveled her head around as she ran, looking for prey…and ran straight into something large and soft.

She looked up and saw long whiskers, a golden pelt, and green eyes.

“Leopardtail! I’m sorry!” Inktail said breathlessly. The cat looked down at her. “Where have you been, small one?” She sniffed the air, whiskers quivering.

“Eaglestorm!” Leopardtail spat. Inktail jerked nervously. “Wha—how did you—“ “Eaglestorm has a particular stench, Inktail. I know his scent. Have you been with him?”

“I-I—“ Inktail stammered nervously.

“I see! Neglecting your loyalties to the Clan again.” “Don’t say that!” Inktail cried. “You know I would do anything for the Clan!” Leopardtail softened her tone a bit. “I do know that, Inktail. But this can’t go on. I’m afraid I’ll have to take to Minnowstar about it.” Inktail hung her head. “I’m sorry. I understand.” Leopardtail nudged her along. “Now, let’s get back to the camp. I’m hungry.”

Inktail’s friend Snowpelt stood guard at the entrance to the camp. She nodded to them as they passed by. “Hello, Inktail, Leopardtail.” “Hello, Snowpelt.” Inktail murmured.

Several minutes later, Inktail gulped down her last bit of cold vole and padded toward a small rock to lick her sore paws.

The rock turned cold as she sat on it, and her fur stood up on end. She glanced up. A swirling, twirling blue cloud hovered above her. She looked up again, to make sure it was real.

No one else seemed to notice—except Leopardtail, who was staring up at the cloud with a mixed expression of fear and horror.

Inktail looked back up, and everything went black

Whizzz!!! Leafmist swung her bright green lightsaber back and forth blindly, trying to knock little balls out of the air.

“Calm down. Don’t wave your lightsaber back and forth in the air like a youngling, Padiwan.”

Leafmist threw her lightsaber down and ripped her helmet off her head, blinking in the light. She brushed her red hair back and glanced around. Her teacher, Kate, sat in the corner wrapped in her black cloak. “You must concentrate harder, Leafmist.” Kate said impatiently. “What’s gotten into you today? You’re usually my brightest student.” Leafmist shrugged. “I don’t know.”

Kate sighed. “You must get control of your tem—oh!” She stared with wide eyes at something behind Leafmist.

Leafmist turned around curiously, and drew in a sharp breath. A swirling purple cloud-like thing was hovering behind her. She instinctively reached for her lightsaber, but it was gone. Then the cloud hurtled toward them, and they disappeared.

Brookeira and lifted her sword and clashed it against September’s, who ducked and twisted her sword around.

“Wait! Let’s take a break!” September yelled above the clangs of the swords. Brookeira lowered her weapon to the ground. “Sure. These things are too heavy.” She brushed her long blond hair out of her eyes and leaned against the wall of the arena.

Sounds of yells floated over from the other kids at Camp Half-Blood, who were also practicing. September made a face. “It’s so loud here!” “You only just joined last month. You haven’t heard it all. I’ve had to put up with it for two full years—but at least it keeps me safe.” Brookeira’s expression grew thoughtful. “I suppose I should be thankful for it, really.”

September nodded. “Well, anyway, let’s get back to practicing.” She hefted her sword, then suddenly put it down and hugged herself. “Did you just feel—brr! It’s cold!” She shivered in her Camp Half-Blood t-shirt and shorts.

Brookeira frowned. “That’s odd. Chiron told me that the weather is never too cold or hot here, unless they want it to be. Then why….”

The sky grew dark, and they both looked up. A swirling yellow cloud hovered over them, low—too low.

“That’s not—that’s not n-normal,” Brookeira stammered. September shivered. Then the cloud swooped down, engulfed them, and they were gone.

Little Reader sat up shakily. Everything was blurry, her head hurt, and she seemed to be sitting on something that was soft and hard at the same time—if that was even possible.

She groaned and flopped back down. Her mind was all mixed up—she couldn’t remember how she had gotten where she was, why she was there, or if she had been with someone—someone else! Daisy! Little Reader sat bolt upright, forgetting the pain in her head. Now she remembered! They had been walking across the school grounds after lunch, and—and Daisy was going to show her how to do the levitating spell—and then something big and orange had come at them, and she couldn’t remember anything after that.

Gradually her head cleared, and as she sat up, she gasped. All around her were swirling colors—red, yellow, black, orange, purple, and blue. Swirling, twirling, beautiful colors—but menacing, too.

“Little Reader? Little Reader, are you there? Little Reader!” Little Reader stood up immediately. No one else had that voice, except— “Daisy? Is that you?” She tottered forward, straight into warm, comforting arms. “Little Reader!” Daisy hugged her tight, and took a deep breath. “Oh, I’m so glad you’re here too! I woke up, and I was all alone in here, and my head hurt awfully….”

Little Reader sighed in relief. “But why are we here? What is this place?” She said, half to herself and half to Daisy.

“Wait! Who’s that?” Daisy said sharply. Little Reader whipped her head around. A small figure was walking unsteadily toward them. They both braced themselves, but then the figure cleared and a girl walked forward.

She looked as startled to see them as they were to see her. She was small and thin, with long blond hair and bright green eyes. She immediately held up her hands, which seemed to glow with purple light.

Daisy stepped forward. “Who are you?” She demanded. The girl stepped back. “B-Brookeira,” she whispered. Then she drew herself up. “And who are you?” Are you the ones who brought me here?” Daisy shook her head, and gave Little Reader a look that said, we might as well trust her. “My name’s Daisy, and that’s Little Reader over there. We didn’t bring you here, we were ‘brought’ here ourselves.”

Brookeira narrowed her eyes for a moment, then shrugged. “Fine. I believe you.”

Finally, I've got Part Two out! I found that just typing it on the computer is easier than trying to do a paper draft, then type it. It's much quicker, and easier to write. So now that I've gotten over that milestone, I should have Part Three out sometime this week!

Sorry it's kind long, Admins. I hope it doesn't keep you from your other things.

Part 3

Leopardtail opened her eyes and rolled over onto her feet. She pawed at the grass…the grass? This wasn’t grass! She shook her head groggily. The ground beneath her was an odd texture, kind of soft and hard…. Out of instinct, she lifted a paw to her face and washed it. Where had she been last? In a clearing…with Inktail! It flooded back to her. Of course! She had been eating a mouse, and then there was a cloud….

She stood up unsteadily. Where was Inktail?

~~~
“Ohhhhhhh….” Leafmist lifted a hand up to her aching head. Where was she? She opened her eyes and swallowed.
Swirling colors surrounded her, like walls in a house. There were colors underneath her, too, like a floor…and there was an opening! A door! Was that the way out? She pushed herself off the floor and slowly stood up.
Leafmist peered through the door. A large brown chest stood in the middle of a room that otherwise seemed exactly like the one she had just been in.
Curiously, she tiptoed toward the chest. She didn’t know why she was tiptoeing, but it was so quiet and eerie that it seemed natural. Now that she thought of it, there wasn’t any sound at all. Her boots didn’t even make any sound on the floor—if it was a floor—and nothing else made noise.
“Who’s there?”
Leafmist gave a start. Never mind about the silence. “He-hello? Who’s that?” She reached for her belt, where she always kept her lightsaber, but it wasn’t there—a painful reminder that she was far from home, in some strange, evil place.
“Who is it?” The voice called out again, as a short person walked swiftly toward her. Leafmist looked closely and saw that she looked human enough, with long black hair and a green and black skin-tight uniform.
The person—it was a girl—quickly jerked her long fingers toward her belt, then slowly moved them away.
Leafmist tilted her head. “Who’re you?” The girl raised her eyebrows. “I could ask you the same question. But I’m Mirax, Mirax T., Starfleet Engineering Lieutanant.” Leafmist figured she had nothing to lose, even if Mirax was an enemy. “I’m Leafmist, Jedi in Training.”
Mirax nodded. “What’s in that chest, Leafmist?” She said quickly. “I don’t know. Let’s open it.” They stepped toward the chest and threw the lid open.
