Heroes of Zelkova

Heroes of Zelkova

Heroes of Zelkova RP

In the not too distant future, a fantasy many children and adults alike had only dreamed about has become a reality somewhere far off in the multiverse. Imagine a world almost identical to ours: The people there call it Zelkova. They speak the same language, eat the same food, do the same things as us Earthlings. We were almost identical. Were.

On the fateful day of April 16th, 2035: More than 50% of the human population on Zelkova seemingly developed some sort of strange superpower overnight. Old and young, men and women, overwhelmingly strong powers and completely pointless ones, all over the world.

To put a lid on the ensuing chaos, the governments of Zelkova put forth new laws regarding these powers, which began to be called "gifts" by people around the world. New institutions were put in place. New utilities. New organizations. The world had to adapt to the new gifts bestowed unto them by some supernatural force. And they did.

June, 2040: The world has become a supernatural society. A majority of the population has adapted to a strange "gift" they recieved one day, and a new generation will soon prove whether these gifts will pass on or not. Many are living their childhood dream. Not all is well in Zelkova, however. Much of the "giftless" population vehemently protest against the special treatment of the gifted. Many gifted individuals turned to the shadows rather than the light, using their gifts to make crime all the more dangerous. The goverments of the world can't keep the peace on their own. That's why a special few gifted individuals, heroes, have stepped up to defend against the worlds evil. Heroics have become a full-time government supported occupation. Heroic academies have sprouted up all over Zelkova, helping aspiring young teens to hone their gifts and learn what it means to be a hero.

You all will be first years at the massive and high-tech RGAZ (The Royal Gifted Academy of Zelkova), the most popular and well respected Hero Academy in all of Zelkova. All will have different reasons for attending, but all share a common goal: becoming a hero. With pressure high and evil lurking just around the corner, who will have what it takes?

Yup, I decided to make my first RP. For those who don't know me; Hi, I'm Ferris! I like as many people as possible to give this RP a try (I'll cap it at around 8), even if it sounds bad. I'll be posting my character later, but please don't be shy and ask any questions you need.

I totally think we should plan!! Maybe the made antaganist could be the protestors? And their leader could have a gift for making peoples' emotions blow up even more than they already do! But they don't know it of course... ;). But these are just some ideas, tell me what you think!

Also! I've been trying to get over writers block for a while know... so I'm sorry for not posting. I will warn you I'm going to camp the first week of July so I probably won't post during that week.

Izzie~~~

Ohh boy. Training. That means loud nioses and talking and lots and lots of colors. So far it's been gentle enough, but once training starts it'll be hard to concentrate. I reach into my pocket and groan, of course I left my earbuds at home! I hurry up to Mr. Redpool.

"Exuse me, but I was wondering if there'll be earbuds in the Hyper Room?" I ask, "And could I possibly keep a pair?"

"There should be, but why would you need them?" he asks.

"Well, I have this thing called synasesa, where certain things makes colors appear. Such as loud noices and talking makes colors dance infront of me. And names and numbers have colors as well." I explain, "I do have earbuds, I just forgot them at home."

"Ah, well then you can keep them. Just one question, what's my name?" He asks.

"Well, 'Mr' is a brownish red and 'Redpool' is blue with red ontop." I say.

He nods thoughfully and I fall back into the group of kids.

I'm still here! Also, side note: Wren's voice sounds like what Ferris described in his post, only with a very slight hoarse note to it. This quality is a little bit like what Mei or Zuko's voices sound like in Avatar: The Last Airbender, if you've seen that showw.

Alright, it's good to hear that you guys are still interested. Planning-wise, I was planning on the anti-academy protestors to come into play as antagonists, although obviously in later arcs I'm planning for more competent villains to be revealed, super-villains and all that. I'll try to keep everything basic, because it is still really fun to flesh out characters and ideas as you go.

Ok, so in regards to the autumn arc, (let's just call the current arc that for now, seeing as it is September) my plan was to wait until the second semester/arc to flesh-out any major, long-term threats to RGAZ. Tell me if this sounds stupid, but after some training segments (to introduce the characters and teachers to each other, flesh out powers, etc.) I was planning to have this tournament style Autumn sports festival where other famous hero academies meet at RGAZ to compete in gift-based challenges. I thought that seemed like a great environment to have antagonist(s) attack RGAZ while everyone's focused on the festival, and we can just build up possible antagonists from where we are now.

Let me know what you guys think, and if you have anything to add!

Yes, that sounds good. A bit like Harry Potter, ya know? the big shebang with the bad guys comes in at the end of the school year.

Yeah, I guess so lol. Anyway, everyone is still free to add whatever, but I hope that plan was good enough/explained the plan a little better.

Okay, so there's this loophole that I've run into based on the parameters that I set for myself. I said that Alynah (is she Lynah now, or is that just an Elliot thing?) couldn't use gift-generated energy, so she wouldn't be OP or evil (but gift stealing or restricting is a good villan power), unless she has permission, so it would be a good plot device because it drives her to make friends or cheat. What kind of training will they do? The festival could involve dates, if we want to do some more shipping. So, in basicaly every fantasy story, the teachers are incapacitated early on by the villan, so they can't help the hero. Are we going to do that? If so, how?

Also, @Moonfrost, my friend has synestesia! She'd be really exited to know you're using it for your character. Do you have synestesia?

I definitely should make some kind of gift restricting villain. As for training, most of the early stuff will just be assessing and honing everyone's powers, so the method of training will probably eventually be different for each person, we'll just start broader, like general athletic training. I do also plan for the teachers to be overwhelmed at least somewhat during the attack, maybe there will be less security until somebody calls for help.

I also agree, the festival would be pretty long, do there would be some down time to allow for leisure or dates. Some time lapses are definitely going to happen as well, just for efficiencies sake.

@Shy Peacock, that’s sort of just an Elliot thing. (His sister is named Alina, so it’s just easier for him/(mainly) me.)

@Ferris, that sounds like a good idea. So the next posts will mainly be character development?

I think you guys will get the rhythm of training pretty quickly. If not, just let me know of any questions or specifics you want cleared up. (Sorry for the novel again, guys. I justhave a lot of ideas that I want to get down!)

Reed~

As Class A murmured predictions and rumors amongst themselves, Mr. Redpool lead us closer and closer to the infamous "Hyper Room". Down two flights of stairs, across a couple hallways and we were there already. Then again, it wouldn't make sense for the Hyper Room to be far away from the Class A homeroom.

Mr. Redpool signaled for us to stop, pausing to produce his ID card in the process. We had come to a pair of giant, intimidating metal doors at the end of the hallway. Mr. Redpool scanned his card on a small panel to the left of the doors, and they slowly but surely started to swing away from us, revealing a sleek, professional looking gym-type room. It had the high-tech sheen of the exam stadium, only much more refined and powerful looking. Other metal side doors neatly lined the walls of the room, along with some expensive looking equipment, some equipment I already used in gyms, and some equipment I didn't even know how to use.

Cameras were also obviously visible at high angles on the wall, which made me a little nervous, even though I knew they meant well. But the most mesmerizing thing was the floor. A sleek, black rubberlike material comprised the entire floor. It looked completely flat at first, but then tiny little hexagon shapes became visible. The class marveled and gaped at the impressive looking room. I tried not to.

"Is everybody inside? Good, looks like it," Mr. Redpool concluded, fiddling with an identical panel on the inside of the room until the doors slowly closed shut again.

"What's with the floor?" One kid asked. Mr. Redpool smiled a wise, almost sly smile.

"I'm glad you asked. Please, watch," Mr. Redpool replied. He returned the ID card to his pocket and withdrew his hand with a small smart-tablet. Or at least what looked like one.  Holding the device with his left, Mr. Redpool placed all his right fingers in the middle of the tablet, proceeding to spread them out towards the edges.

Almost like a sinkhole had opened up, the floor morphed and rippled until the middle of the room fell to a significantly lower elevation than the rest of the floor. The Class erupted in surprise and disbelief.

"The floor is engineered to be remotely manipulated," Mr. Redpool explained. "For easy access to our- more unwieldy equipment." Mr. Redpool let go, returning the floor back to level height, only to continue to fiddle with the tablet. Huge, rectangular section of the floor began to sink right in front of us, independently of the rest of the floor. Mr. Redpool finished, looking up to see our reactions.

The sections soon rose up again like platforms, supporting what we soon realized to be huge, concrete blocks. The floor quickly returned to normal once again, displaying what looked like about 20 huge blocks of concrete neatly lined up on our side of the room. A faint white outline appeared on the section of floor opposite each block, all the way on the other side of the room.

"Your first training exercise is purely for goal-setting and training personalization, so don't worry about comparing your result to the rest of the class," Mr. Redpool explained. "If all goes according to plan, your gifts will only become more powerful going forward."

"Each student, on their turn, must attempt to move their block of concrete to the target area by any means necessary-using your gifts, of course." Mr. Redpool gestured to the glowing white panels across the room.

"What? That's easy," remarked a jocky looking kid. Evidently the whole class did not share his opinion. I looked to Bryan and Wren, who both seemed extremely uncomfortable with the task. I hadn't seen either of the gifts in action much at all, but I could tell they weren't as confident as some of the other kids.

"However, you must give equal effort to keeping the block as in-tact as possible. If it breaks, then your result will automatically count as a 0 rating." I gulped. There goes my chance of being impressive on the first day. Who am I kidding, was that ever gonna happen? "For those of you that are worried, I'm allowing for the use of any non-contraband item to aid you in this training. That means that anything in this room is fair game to use. We will be testing your ability to improvise and innovate along with the capabilities of your gift." Mr. Redpool smiled his confident smile yet again.

"Lastly, we'll go and alphabetical order, I think," Mr. Redpool concluded. "Oh, and I mustn't forget the 2 minute completion time limit! Any questions?"

Rune~

When it FINALLY came my turn to move the block of concrete, the first thing I do was think. Then, I felt a smile widening on my face. Focusing hard, I inspect the block. Suddenly, it dissapears. Mossman smirks and scratches something onto his ever-present clipboard. His face changes as suddenly as the block reappears in the middle of the room, myself right next to it. I REALLY hope this works... I walk around the concrete, trailing ice behind me. The smooth, cold ice makes a curved path to the other side of the room. I gingerly touch the side of the concrete and swerve my arm around, releasing the block as it aligns with the ice. It slides in a carefully calculated curve (ALLITERATION MASTAH XD) at a reckless pace. I teleport to the end of the ice, the concrete block hurtling towards me. I put my arms forward, and a strong, steady stream (AGAIN ALLITERATION MASTAH) of air shoots forth. The concrete meets the air stream and begins to slow. It stops right in front of me, and I peek around the hulking cube of concrete. Silence ensues for a minute, but some kid slowly begins to clap. Suddenly, the entire class, including Mossman and Georgio, bursts into applause. I blush and teleport back to the bleachers. The applause dies down, but as the next kid steps up to his block, I catch some jock of a guy staring at me wierdly. Hmm...

Just a little nitpick, but Mr. Redpool is currently the only teacher there. Mr. Mossman stayed at the classroom.

@Shy Peacock, I'm glad your friend would like it! I slightly have synestesia; whenever I think of a word it's colored, but it doesn't happen when I read. Mr. does happen to be brownish red and Redpool is red with blue ontop.

Izzie~~~

Soon my name is called and I walk up to the block. I take a deep breath in and blow it out. I look at the block and slowly it lifts up, I float it over to the end of the room and gently let it down. Mr. Redpool nods and marks somthing on his clipboard as I walk back to the group.

Wren~

I wait anxiously in the outskirts of the group for my turn to move the block. Every time someone else moves their block, it seems to heighten the nasty fluttering in my gut to the next level. How on earth does my wolf form help me move a block of concrete? You can't, you can't, you're not worth much anyway... A nasty little voice whispers in the back of my mind, sounding terribly like what my foster father would always hint at.

Clenching my fists, I push it away. You can do this, I tell myself stubbornly. ...Somehow....

And then I jerk myself out of my thoughts as Izzie is walking back from successfully and easily telepathically lifting her concrete from its place to the far end of the room. Who's next? My gut clenches. And then...

"Alynah Wilson."

Mr. Redpool nods for her to step up. She walks at a sedate pace from the group, glancing behind her once then taking a deep breath and fixing her gaze on the block of concrete. As if willing for some sort of strength or energy, Alynah takes in another breath, and then an amazing thing happens. A sort of soft, faint golden light seemingly flows into her. She stretches out her hands and  conducts it into the block of concrete, and it slides gently across the room and to the opposite side.

"Whoa," a boy near me breathes. But I barely hear him. The fluttering is back. Who will he call up... It could be me... What am I going to do... My worries are cut short and simultaneously intensified to the maximum.

"Wren Thomas."~

Note: I saw that Shy Peacock posted recently, so if she wrote something and it ends up not matching my post, forget what I wrote.

Alynah~

Okay. The only way I can think to do this assignment is to get some motion energy and use it. Sadly, not enough things are moving in this room. A concrete block is heavy and huge, and it would take a lot of energy to move it. So I'll have to get someone's permission.

My first thought is Elliot, but I don't want to bother him. He'll probably draw a bulldozer or something. So I use one of the other aspects of my gift. I can tap into more than just the energy around me. I can speak every language. But I'm not going to use that either. I can't read minds or anything, but I can sort of get a feel for what the people around me are feeling. Not by any means specific, in fact most times I can only sense maddeningly vague emotions. But there are a few people who I think can only destroy things with their power, not move things. I walk over to the person I'm most certain about. "Hi. It's Reed, right?"

"Yeah. Who are you?" He gives me a look that says he thinks that I'm below him. Not anything too drastic, but I get the message. I should have tried someone else. Too late now, so I rush forward. "I'm Alynah. I, uh, I think I can help you out with... this," I say, gesturing to the concrete blocks.

"Okay," he says slowly, looking like he's considering taking me seriously now. He must be desperate. "But how can you help me?" Reed emphasizes the "you" just enough to be annoying. I refrain from groaning.

"My gift lets me take energy from around me, and... repurpose it. But I can only use gift-generated energy if I get the user's permission."

"Okay, but what does that have to do with--"

"I was getting to that," I say, cutting him off. He shoots me another annoyed look. "I think, correct me if I'm wrong, but I, I think that your gift lets you destroy but not move the block?" My voice gets higher and softer at the end, coming out more uncertain than I intended.

Reed looks startled. "N-no, you're right. But how did you know? Was I that obvious?"

He doesn't need to know about the creepy aspect of my gift. "Mm-hm, and I think my gift could let me act like a, um, like a funnel."

"You'd do that?" He makes it sound like I'm stupid for doing this for him, but I can sense a hint of releif in his voice.

"If you use your gift again when it's my turn, so that I can funnel it again to move my concrete block, then yes, I'll do it for you." I look up at him defiantley.

"Are we even allowed to do this?"

"Well, they did say everything in this room was fair game. So what do you say?"
