The Deck of

Chatterbox: Inkwell

The Deck of

The Deck of Cards

You're an alley dog. You were born on the street with no master, no friends, a free dog in this crazy world. You steal food, find shelter under benches and trees, while constantly running away from the dog catcher and the threat of custody hanging over your head. You want your freedom, and you will do anything to keep it. Every new moon, when the sky is darkest, you and the other alley animals  meet behind the local Casino to discuss everything that has happened since your last meeting. The last meeting you attended was in an uproar about the new disappearances of comrades, disappearances like nothing the city has ever seen before. It could just be the work of a new dog catcher on the streets… or something more sinister. 52 have gone missing since the last meeting, granting this case the name Deck of Cards. What will you do about this? What will you do to keep your freedom you have tried so hard to keep? What will happen to you?

Greetings. I am Asphalt, leader and organizer of the New Moon gatherings. We have gathered here today to discuss the outbreak of a new dog catcher. Yes, as you may know, this dog catcher has been the unfortunate fate of many of our comrades this past moon. Hush! Wait! Call to order! No, it is nothing more than a new dog catcher! Nothing more! Yes, 52 have gone missing. Yes, I suppose you’re right, that is the amount of a deck of cards. Call to order! Now, to protect our freedom, we must do something to get in the way of this new catcher. Yes, and save our 52 comrades. I need volunteers to help our cause. Call to order! These volunteers will work together to track this new dog catcher. Once they are found, if backup is needed, please see fit to start a bark track. No, nothing bad will happen to said volunteers. You will form a pack, nothing can hurt you when you are in a pack. Be careful not to let them solo you out. Do you understand how important that is? Good. Remember, a pack is as strong as its weakest link. Do I have my volunteers? Good. With the moons light, you will find this dog catcher and save our comrades. It is up to you. Good luck, chasers of the Deck of Cards. Meeting adjourned.

Hey all! Yes that was pretty vague, if anyone has any questions, please ask! (Pre-answers to some questions probably) you can have had many charries as you wish, just don’t go overboard! Yes, the story will center around the volunteers, the chasers of the Deck of Cards. We will develop the plot as we move towards. I was thinking they lived in a suburb off of a city, so not too city-like but still dirty with allies and trash dumps and such. I’ll post my charrie later!

WE CAN START!

Rouge, Fang will be the King of Freedom.

Lol sorrrry Storm didn’t see your post lol.

Oh Tux, Sphinx can still be one of the captured.

Hmmmmmm did I have anything else to say? Hmmmmm.....

nope don’t think so!

I guess we can start like, as they’re trying to track the missing dogs, or we could do it from the end of the meeting or something, as they all come together to start. Oh! That’s a great idea? Mind if I start...? Won’t be that long cause I’m on a phone lol.

~Summit

The New Moon gathering was over. Dogs, cats, and rats alike adverted into the darker shadows of the night. The alley was dim, only lit by a single flickering light by the back door of the human Casnio. Besides that, the sky was as dark as the pelt of an unlucky cat. Speaking of cats...

Two pelts of light and fire were slowly trotting their way towards him. Cosmos and Sky, if he had heard right, the two cats who had volunteered along with him. “I can’t belive two cats volunteered for something like this.” He heard a snort off to his left as another dog approached him. “This is dogs work, here.”  Summit turned his head over to see a fluffy little thing, with a black pelt that made her almost impossible to see.

“What are you looken at, you big drooler?” She yipped and Summit immidiatly looked away. “How many of us were there again?” She continued, looking up at the sky. “13?”

She jumped suddenly and growled as a shadow dropped from the stars. “No need to be frightened.” Said the winged creature as he landed on the garbage can near by. “I mean no harm. I’m your raven!” He spread his wings and shrugged.

She still looked at him with distrust, her fangs barred. “Aren’t you a spicy one?” One of the cats purred, the Siamese, Cosmos. “A little tooooo, yippy?”

She brushed her tail across the little black dogs flank, who growled defendantly. “You better stop with your nonsense, cat. I’m the daughter of Ashpalt, you would rip your pelt to shreds if you lay even a claw on me. Not that I can’t defend for myself or anything.”

The cats eyes flashed as she leapt up onto the trash can next to the raven, who flapped his wings and jumped away from her. She cast a sly little look at him and hissed, “oh don’t you worry. I wouldn’t DARE lay a claw on either of you. I’m here to help, not to hurt. We’re hear for a reason now, aren’t we?”

The little dog fell silent, while she glared up at the cat. Summit was suddenly aware that there were more dogs behind him. “We sure are.” Summit growled.  “We’re here to find the missing 52. Because no one deserves to be abandoned.”

Whicker--

I walked slowly past the Casino door and moved towards the group. Summit, a rather disheveled looking character, proclaimed himself to be the leader. He stood with a black bird, most likely a crow or raven, a black fluffy looking creature and two cats. I personally have no distrust of cats just because their species. Truth is, Ive known quite a few cats and they all were the purest of hearts. That doesnt go to say though, that these cats are the same. One, Cosmos I think it was, looks quite sly.

Summit was speaking.

"We sure are," He said. "Were here to find the missing 52. Because no one deserves to be abandoned."

I stepped up.

"Well, some actually do deserve it. But thats besides the point. "

I dipped my head at Summit.

"Hallo Summit. Life's been treating you kindly I hope."

"Fine, Whicker." He nodded.

"If I may make a suggestion? I say we all start with our names and why were here. No use in not knowing who were with along this trip."

I looked at the rag tag band of animals. I quickly stretched then spoke.

"Hallo everyone. The name's Whicker. I suppose most of you have heard that Twister has dissappeared. Yes, he's on of the 52. Or as Asphalt said, the Deck of Cards. But what most of you dont know is that, well, I'm only on this chase because of him. Through life, he's helped me get out of some scrapes. And that's why ive volunteered. He's my friend, and I aim to get him back. No matter the cost."

~

Sorry so short! I was thinking maybe the rest could explain why their here too? You Like?

@Tuxedo Kitten: Me like. 14

~Muninn

Whicker stepped back after finishing, and I lept into the circle-ish formation we created.

"I'm Muninn, but you can call me Memory or Mun. I didn't volunteer because a special friend was captured. I am doing this because of the community. I care for them, and I wouldn't want such a powerful system to die because of a single poacher."

I step back as another takes my place. I didn't want to draw too much attention to myself. As the only avian in the group that volunteered, I'm a bit nervous. Everyone is a natural predator besides the mouse. I needed to step carefully. I genuinely cared for the community, the event I call "The First Thanksgiving" showed me that. Yet some members of the community are not nice, eventually to be ripped to shreds in the Father's talons after death. Nevertheless, the community was important in daily life in the city. Even those not very close to you will help you out. I fought for the survival of the community.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just realised that when I gave Muninn the nickname of Mun, I google searched it to make sure it wasn't an actual name that means something different than what I intend, but I find Model United Nations XD. I do intend to join the MUN club though.
Lol yes I like that Tux! I don't know what Whicker's intention was towards Summit, but I'm just gonna play it out and see where it goes lolz.
~Summit
Whicker stepped up. "Well some actually do deserve it. But that's beside the point." I tried my best not to wince at his cruel choice of words, intentional or not, as flashbacks of my old pack brimmed at the corners of my eyes. "Hallo Summit. Life's been treating you kindly I hope."
I gritted my teeth and tried my best to keep myself from going down into yet another self-pitying spiral of guilt about my owners. "Fine, Whicker." I nodded slowly, not knowing how to return the question, for my mind was playing games with me again.
What did you do? What did you do to make your pack so mad that they abandoned you? What will you do to help this new pack? You better hope they don't abandon you to........
By now, the raven (or crow, I didn't know what the difference was) was clicking his beak to the beat of his words. What did Whicker say? I listened intently for a moment, but the raven was done speaking. Although I didn't process what he said, he sounded wise from the little snippets my hunting ears caught and stored in my mind. Maybe I should listen better when he speaks. By now, another had stepped up to take his place, and I recognized the black dog from earlier.
"I'm Charcoal." She announced. "Friends get to call me Char. But from the looks of it, there ain't none here."
One of the cats from earlier snickered. "Like any cat in their right mind would want to be friends with a Chuwawa."
She whipped around to face the witty Siamese. "For YOUR inFORMATION." She started dramatically. "I am a SKIPPERKEY and the DAUGHTER of ASPHALT, who MAY I REMIND YOU set this whole thing up, AND YOU WOULD NOT BE HERE WITHOUT." If Summit could have known any better, he thought smoke was seeping out her snout. Or maybe she was just breathing really hard.
"Whoa, cool it!" Whicker barked, stepping in. "That means you too, smart-mouth." He growled at the cat, who just shrugged and settled back down next to the other cat.
"LIKE I WAS SAYING!" Charcoal barked rather loudly. "My name is Charcoal, I'm a SKIPPERKEY and the daughter of ASPHALT, but, that's not the only reason I'm here." A serious look suddenly crossed her muzzle. "My brother Amber was captured not too long ago, and I'm worried about him. He doesn't do too well on his own." She looked up to what the alley dogs could see of the stars. "I miss him, and I'm worried about him, and I assure you, I WILL do anything to make sure he's safe."
She cast a look towards the cats. "Hey now," she purred. "We're all in this together."
Summit's heart suddenly lifted. She was right, we were all in this together. He stepped forward. "I'm Summit. I've been around, I know some of you." He nodded towards Whicker, Juno, and Nova, and a few other pelts that looked familiar. "And I'm here because I believe that no one," he cast a look at Whicker. "That no one no matter what they did in the past, deserves to be left behind or abandoned. I intend to find- or at least help find- these missing animals." And that's when he realized something. He wasn't trying to be a hero...he was trying to prove something. To himself.
He didn't deserve to go along with this pack. He didn't even deserve to be with them, or help find the missing animals. He was just taking advantage of them for his own personal gain! What could someone like him do to help an amazing pack like this? "Uh- and I'm a hunting dog! I can climb trees! I can track basically everything!"
He was now aware that everyone was looking at him. Someone else was about to go, but he had interrupted them. His tail drooped. "Er, if that helps or anything." He mumbled, looking off into a dark alley just a little ways from them, thinking thoughts and feeling sorry for himself.
Well, basiccly Whicker just meant to be friendly. And when he said that some do deserve it, he meant because ]some dogs were cruel, and such.
Whicker~~
What I effected Summit quite a deal. His eyes seemed to cloud, and his pure blue eyes gazed to some far off memory tucked away in a dusty corner of his mind. Why would it effect him so much though? Did he know someone who really did deserve abandonment? Maybe a former owner... or another dog. Maybe even himself. But thats getting ahead, isnt it.
He stepped foward and shared a few very valiant words, and stepped back. He seemed worried, troubled in some way.
As another started speaking, I backed away from the circle, and sat down near Summit.
"Something troubling you?" I hoarsly whispered. "Something I said?"
He looked at me with tired, far away eyes, but quickly regained his composure.
"I'll be fine, thanks." I looked at him sceptically.
"Im fine," he stated.
I sighed
"Right, well if you need to talk, or something like such... just know that, well Im here for you. And everyone else in this pack.
Cinnamon stepped up and felt everyone’s gaze on her. Wait, actually, no one was noticing her. So she clambered up Charcoal (“Ey, Cinnamon! You can’t just do that whenever you like!) and said nervously, “Hey, um, I’m Cinnamon, and I’m in this because...” Well, actually, she didn’t know. “I like adventure?” she finished half-truthfully.
The animals eyed her skeptically. Cinnamon grinned and slid down Charcoal’s tail, and chittered menacingly at Angel. (Ferrets and rats had a long rivalry that Cinnamon didn’t much care about, but she enjoyed chittering menacingly and tried to do it as much as possible.) Another animal stepped up, and Cinnamon sidled off to wrestle with an annoying-looking piece of paper, vanquishing it throughly and sitting up comfortably in it to watch everyone else argue.
@Claaws, Fang is a girl. I would also prefer if she was seperate in some way from the code name group. Thus Phantom. If you don't agree with this is there any other way she can fit in...? I don't want her to be a number.
Yes I know she’s a girl where did I say she wasn’t? No, Rogue, this is a group thing, everyone agreed on it, and there are 13 volunteers so there is a dog for every card. Yes, Fang is the King of Freedom, which is fine because it means she’s the leader, doesn’t it now? Also, there are ONLY 13 volunteers please don’t include any background characters. And please don’t try and control this RP too much, it’s a group effort Rogue, not just u.
I recieve a glare from an unidentified creature "If any of you have a problem with me then leave." I say in response to that glare and the creature leaves(not a charrie just a background person jsyk)
Fang~
I emerge from the shadows, and everybody gives a start. My large stature makes me the biggest of all gathered here with the exemption of a Great Dane here and there. I have their attention.
"I am Fang, the Phantom. I have volunteered to serve alongside the Chasers of the Deck of Cards." My smooth voice makes them relax a little bit, but my hard, cold gaze keeps them from coming any closer. I turn to leave, but a rat squeaks:
"Wait! Where do you think you're going, wolf?" I turn to face the rodent. She has a defiant and superior look in her eye, but it quickly fades as I loom over her.
"Where I please, rat." I once again turn to leave. "I won't hurt anybody here unless they attack me first... Just as a warning." I throw the last sentence overt shoulder before disappearing back into the shadows. My last words to them echo off of the sides of the alleyway, making it seem as if they come from every direction at once. "Go ahead and resume. To the official Chasers of the Deck of Cards, I will meet you all at the Main Outskirts of town at dawn. We have things to discuss."
~Nova
I  roll my eyes at Fang and step up. Someone needed to break the silence that he one guy created.
"Well then I am Nova as some of you know and I am here to rescue my mom and brother who were taken in the 52. So yea."
I step back and eye up the other animals. There is a mouse (cinnamon), Summit, Fang, the two cats, Juno, The ferret, whicker, another dog, a raven or crow (how do you tell?), and the bratty snappy frisky skipperkey charcoal. They all introduce themselves and then Summit takes charge.
"Okay well what Fang said I guess. Meet at the main outskirts of town at dawn. You are not there we will leave you behind. Last chance for ducking out."
Suprisingly a whole bunch of other animals leave. We all leave in our own direction turning back to the alleys and such. I wander down the alley's until I reach mine. but something is off. I sniff the air and it is the same sent when I doscovered Sky and mom missing. The dognapper. I imeatietly panic. silently I turn back and sprint back to the meeting place. Suprisingly Summit is still there.
"Summit! We have to go"
"Nova? What do mean?"
"they're here the kidnappers of the deck are here!"
"What?"
"They are here"
"find everyone we leave now!"
BIG NOTE: Crows and ravens simply by looking at two pictures of them seem exactly the same. The difference that is easiest to see is that ravens are far larger than crows. Ravens have a hook at the end of the beak while a crow would not. A raven's tail is diamond shaped in the air while a crow's tail is more like a fan with a nick in the center. Ravens can soar while crows cannot. Ravens make a far larger variety of sounds compared to crows who mostly just "caw" and the occasional click.
