Chatterbox: Inkwell

RP

RP

So, this is a RP which will take place at a cafe known as Sterling Dew Cafe, in the city of Rey. Your charries are the workers. Sterling Dew is run by Catherine Rhyneheart, my charrie, whose daughter has gone missing.

When she realizes this she starts looking for all new workers who have special powers, because she knows that Raul Ekers, the secretive and manipulative mayor of Rey, has stolen her child, Jenna, and she knows that he has special magic of his own.

If Raul manages to keep Jenna he will be able to force her to use her power, the power of controlling people, for horrible purposes. So Catherine knows she must get Jenna back as soon as possible, but she can't do it alone.

-------------Here's the charrie sheet. 2 charries max, please, and there is a maximum of 14 workers at SD. I'll post Catherine's later.

-short post alert, I apologize-

Okay so in my charrie I asked Cerinthe (sorry if I misspelled) if Estelle could babysit Jenna. In this post she did, but it's okay if Estelle doesn't. Also we can call the "people with powers" The Gifted or Power Gifted.

Estelle-

Catherine's daughter was missing. Catherine and her daughter. Jenna. Jenna was missing. Jenna needed help. I had to help Jenna.

"Is there anything I can do, Catherine?" I ask in my best how-can-I-help voice.

"You can wash down the tables or do the dishes, Ess. Thanks for understanding.", Catherine says frantically.

Doing the dishes and washing tables was a job everyone hated, but being gifted with water manipulation, I love doing it. I get a rag and a bucket of warm, soapy water from the kitchen and pour the water on the nearest table, willing it to keep its shape. The water sloshes around, and the table cleans magically. I remember my mother doing the dishes, in my youth.

Mother.

My mom was dead, and Jenna's wasn't

My mom could be alive if Ekers hadn't gotten to her.

My mom could be here now if Ekers wasn't here.

My heartbeat quickens, and I slump over. A girl whose name I do not know rushes over. I think she works here. I start to breathe heavily. I hear the girl swear under her breath.

"Catherine?", she says, "I think she's having a panic attack."

I can't breathe. I can't see. I can't hear. I don't know what's going on. But I know two things.

One, I needed to save Jenna.

Two, Ekers had to go as soon as possible.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

The girl mentioned in this chapter can be anyone, but I did imagine it was Victoria in when I was writing this.

Isla-

I make my way to Sterling Dew after school, yawning a little from the tiring day. I get my uniform on in the back and gather with the others new hires to listen to Catherine's speech. I am shocked when she says her daughter has been captured and know I have to help to her find her. I say, "Of course I will help you find her!"

I think about what I can do to start figuring out where Jenna could be and decide to listen closely to patron's conversations and see if I can dig anything up.

I head out to the front with the others with a big smile on my face and start to serve the customers, who were getting impatient out in the rain. I see a few friends from school and wave at them, receiving smiles and waves back.

I'll wait a bit for more character updates and then post again. And I think a name for the "people with powers" would be great. I can't think of one right now, but I'll let you know if I do.

(Sorry, I really got anxious to post and decided, WHY NOT.)

Victoria—

I earlier asked if I could work in the front. Catherine agreed and myself, Aaliyah, Daylee, Phoenix, and Isla all went out of the kitchen to help customers. “Aaliyah?” I turned to Aaliyah, my younger sister.

“Yes?” She smiled at me.

I glanced outside, “You can go into the rain out there, when it storms, make sure to come back in, okay?”

“Okay! Thank you!”

“Don't forget your rain coat!”

She slid her rain coat on and walked outside, sitting in the rain. I know why she's always in the rain. Our mother always sat out in the rain, enjoying it. Ever since she died, Aaliyah carried on that habit of going outside when it's raining.

I watched as a girl with the name tag of Estelle walked out of the kitchen. I smiled to her and she smiled back. I watched her as I rang up orders for the customers and handed the slips to Daylee. Daylee gave the slips to Phoenix and he hurried back into the kitchen, bringing out food.

I later saw Estelle panicking, slumped over, and beathing heavily. “DAYLEE! TAKE THIS!” I handed her the slip and ran over to Estelle. I swore under my breath a few times and tried to calm her down.

“CATHERINE?” I called out. Catherine came running out of the kicthen, “Yes?”

“I think she's having a panic attack.” I told Catherine. Catherine panicked for a second and ran back into the kitchen. While she was in the kitchen, I gestured out the window for Aaliyah to come back in to help me. Aaliyah understood and ran back in, shaking off all the rain off her rain coat and tying it to her waist.

Catherine came out with an ice pack and placed it on Estelle's forehead. “Aaliyah,” I turned to her, “can you go help Daylee and Phoenix? Catherine and I got it here.” She smiled and nodded, understanding and ran to go help Daylee and Phoenix.

Catherine and I managed to calm her down a little, but it looked like she was all shaken up. Catherine went back into the kitchen to talk to the other workers. Aaliyah came over to us, bring another pack of ice. I took it and held it up to Estelle's forehead. I turned to Aaliyah and smiled, “Thanks sis.” She smiled at me and went back behind the counter where Daylee Phoenix, and Isla were.

I turned to Estelle, “What's on your mind?”

~Catherine~

As I come back from the kitchen I look anxiously at Estelle, who seems to be calming down now. "Does this have anything to do with" - I waved my hands around vaguely. "Chlld... hood... stuff?" I cringe, not wanting to give away my friend's own business; Victoria eyes me curiously.

Estelle takes the ice pack off her forehead, massaging it between her fingers. She glances at the table; its surface and the cloth covered seats around it are soaked.

"It's fine," I assure her. "We can get it cleaned up."

"I know. I'll do it," she says in a bleak voice, standing up. "Sorry about that." She tugs on her charm bracelet, puts down the ice pack and starts trying to clean the water up.

"You're good," I tell her, leaning down and putting my hands on my knees. Already this day has gotten a bit much. I'm worn out. This running a business thing, I'm not so used to it as I should be.

"C'mon," says Victoria, picking up the ice pack, "more customers are coming in."

We go into the kitchen, where Daylee, Felix, Phoenix and some others are hard at work making food.

"She never answered your question," murmered Victoria.

"I know," I reply, and, stressed, head off to the bathroom before Victoria can ask about what I asked Estelle.

PANIC. Sorry I haven't posted yet!

~~~~
Daylee Abbington...
I remember what I said while Catherine was making her speech. I'll help you! I remember I once had a younger sister that... never mind. “She's gone from my current memories, chill Daylee...” I say to myself. I saw Phoenix looking at me, beginning to talk to me, “You okay? You're talking to yourself again.”
“Oh, yeah! I'm fine, thanks for asking. I'll go take the food out to the customers,” I say, panicked and hurriedly.
“Okay—”
“Bye!”
I grab a black, plastic, rounded tray and place dises with food and drinks onto it. I run out the door, almost slamming into Aaliyah. She looks soaking wet. “C'mere,” I say, grabbing Aaliyah by the rain coat tied to her waist. I walked over to a table, carrying the tray of food and drinks in one hand, and holding and tugging Aaliyah in the other. I glance over at Aaliyah, gesturing to take the food and place it down on the table. Finally, Aaliyah is picking up the plates and cups, placing them onto the table.
I sigh, tuck the plate under my arms, and kept tugging Aaliyah by her rain coat. “Can you please stop?” She says. I roll my eyes, “Maybe later, follow me.”
“Fine! Just saying, you're impatient and you're still tugging me right?”
“Good. Im not impatient. Just... stop trying to pull away.”
I was tugging her to the kitchen, “PHOENIX!” Pheonix came running out of the kitchen, “Yes?” He was eyeing my hand gripping on Aaliyah's coat in suspicion.
“Can you go give the customers their food and drinks? I'm a little busy,” I glare at Aaliyah, she's still soaking wet.
“Sure, you got it.”
“Thanks, Phoenix.”
I went back to tugging Aaliyah. We got to the cleaning supplies closet. I shove her in and I got in with her. “Why are you soaking wet?” I whisper to her, trying to not make us noticable.
“Can you let go then I tell you?” She mumbled.
“Right,” I let go of her rain coat, “why're you soaking wet?”
“That's none of your business!”
“Fine.”
“Okay fine, I'll tell you.” Aaliyah says.
“Cool, spill.”
~~~~

(This means that Aaliyah and Daylee are a little busy. They're not currently being active at the cafe, they're in the cleaning supplies closet.)

Quick question, are people allowed to write someone else's character doing or saying something? For example, could I have a two-way conversation with Catherine, or could I make only Isla say something? I'm assuming we probably are able to, but probably just on a small scale, like no big plot points, just agreeing? If someone could explain it to me that would be great. Thank you!

Isla-

As I am coming out of the kitchen with a plate of sandwiches for a group of giggling girls, I see one of my coworkers, Estelle, slumped on a table and surrounded by coworkers. I quickly deliver the sandwiches and then rush over to Estelle to make sure she is okay, making sure to give her space. Catherine comes out with an icepack and places it on her forehead.

It looks like Catherine and Victoria have it handled, so I rush back to the kitchen to serve the heavy onslaught of soaking customers.

I notice Daylee drag Aaliyah into the cleaning closet, and my curiosity is piqued, but I decide not to interrupt their meeting. I don't know either of them well enough yet to pester Aaliyah.

I worry about Estelle and note that I should try to talk to her about what happened and what triggered her. Even though we aren't great friends, I have a sort of therapuetic personality and can calm people when they are upset.

I also worry about Catherine and I can't even imagine how hard it must be for her to have a missing child and have to run a popular business like this. I should probably check up on her later.

By now, business has slowed down quite a bit, as it is getting late and is a school night. I yawn, just about ready to get into bed. Instead, I make sure all of the customers are being attended to, clear and wash some dishes, and unzip my bag to work on homework.

@Cami-Sure! as long you tell the story from your character's perspective and don't make the other charrie do anything that wouldn't go with their personality (ex making Estelle chat about her family>, then you're fine!

Estelle-

Catherine places an icepack on my forehead.

"Catherine, is she going to be OK?", the girl who brought me back here. I think her name is Victoria. She used to live near me, before. . .that happened. I glance at the table I was cleaning. It's soaked.

Victoria eyed the table and said, "Don't worry, we'll clean it up."

"I got it", I say.

Victoria murmers something to Catherine, who then leaves. "What's on your mind?", she asks me.

"Nothing. Nothing important, anyway."

"You just had a panic attack. It has to be important. Was it Jenna?"

"Partly, yes. I used to babysit her."

"So you've known Catherine for a while? How'd you meet?"

I pause, and I purse my lips. "I don't want to talk about this." I say in a cold voice.

Victoria throws her hands up. "Okay. Sorry for prying. But, I'm here, I guess. Take a rest for a little bit."

"Okay."

Aaliyah—

“Cool, spill.” Daylee said to me. “Fine...” I murmured, quietly.

Daylee gestured for me to start to explain.

“So...” I started murmuring with incoherent words.

“Talk louder, please.”

“Fine... Well... I was out in the rain because it's just... a personal problem.”

Daylee looked at me, confused, “What do you mean a personal problem?”

“It's just that...” I started, quietly tearing up. “My mother was always in the rain when it started... and she'd always sit out there until it ended, no matter the weather...” Tears fell down my cheeks, “Sorry! I'm getting tears on you..” I wiped the tears off and continued, “My mother later died of an unexpected sickness, myself and Victoria were both sent away when we were younger. I've been sitting out there to just kind of carry on the habit..” I smiled at Daylee.

“It's fine. I was just wondering why you were soaking wet, that's all. I'm so sorry, by the way,” Daylee hugged me.

“Thanks, I really needed that...”

We both came out of the cleaning supplies closet, looking around to see if anyone was staring. Phew... No one. I thought to myself. “I'm going to go look for Victoria,” I said, turning to Daylee. Daylee nodded.

I ran over to Victoria, seeing her sitting and talking to Estelle. “Where were you?” Victoria turned to me. I awkwardly smiled, “Sorry..!” Victoria smiled at me. Victoria took the later night shift, working and closing. “Hey Victoria?” I turned to her. She stood up, now looking down at me, “Yeah?”

“Can I work the night shift with you?” I asked, smiling.

She rubbed her head, “I dunno. You can go ask Catherine, besides, tomorrow you have school.”

“You have college!” I complained.

“So? I have later classes. You're still in high school, my dude,” She patted my head. “Now, you can stay here if you'd like and work on your homework and wait for me, or you can go home. It's your choice.”

“I'll just stay here and wait for you.”

“Okay.”

I settled back into the kitchen, sitting on an old, empty crate and a plastic table dragged up to it. I then pulled out my backpack, unzipped it, pulled out my homework and a pencil, and started working on it, glancing up a few times, watching Victoria clean dishes.

Vera

I arrive late for work today. Homework overload had me up to two AM, and I slept right through my alarm. I have a suspician that my eyeshadow colors are mismatched but I can't do anything about it now. I apologize to Catherine as I come into the kitchen, bearing Zander under one arm.
"Sorry I'm late, I overslept. I'll work later if I need..."
"That's all right, no need, I have plenty of people." She seems distracted, something that she never is. Looking around, I notice that several tables are overturned and the floor is wet. "Wow, what happened?" I ask. "Is everyone okay?"
"Everyone but Jenna." She says, returning an ice pack to the large commercial freezer in the corner.
"What happened to Jenna?" I ask, concerned.
"Oh, you weren't there when I told everyone, were you?" She says, sounding tired. "Jenna has been kidnapped."
I drop Zander abruptly. "What?" I say, too loudly. I lower my voice. "When? Who?"
She starts as a patron slips on some water that has crept into the front part of the cafe. "Ask someone else, okay? I have to make sure that patron wasn't injured." She leaves.
I shake my head, disconcerted, then head over to where Felix is moulding pie crust into tiny tart pans. I seperate out a portion of crust and grab a pan. I glance over at him out of the corner of one eye, and then make up my mind to ask. "So, what happenend to Jenna? I came in late." He starts and drops his pan, catching it expertly before it hits the counter.
"I didn't see you! Goodness, you are stealthy. You asked the right person about Jenna! I happen to know exactly what happened." He tells me the story, lacing it with remarks about himself, his awesome memory, and his knowledge of Jenna, the cafe, and kidnapping in general.
"Well," I say when he finishes, "I'll help Jenna, if I can." He nods.
"Thought so."
I frown. "Why do you say that?"
"Well..."
I cut him off. "You think you are really good at convincing people, don't you? Honestly, you think you know everything!" The fluttery feeling in my stomach that I had when he was talking to me fades, and I turn myself invisible, set down my pan and stalk off, turning visible as soon as I am out of the kitchen. I grab a mop and start trying to mop up the water on the floor.

Bagel Princess and Cerinthe, I hope I did Felix and Catherine okay!

Bagel Princess, I just saw your note on my character post, and I would love to have Felix and Vera ship, although it might be diffucult given their personalities.

Char Wills:

I arrive at the cafe late. Again. Not that I care.

"Hey, what do I need to do?" I ask Catherine as she passes by in a rush.

She stares at me blankly. 'Who're you?"

I roll my eyes. I get this question a lot. Comes from being a shapeshifter, I guess.

"Char? Remember?" I whip out my ID and she nods.

"Right. I guess you can help in the back." But something crosses her face and she turns away.

"What's going on?"

She explains about Jenna, her daughter, who's been kidnapped by Ekers.

I need to help.

Suddenly, I get an idea.

"You need a spy!" I declare. "I'll go into the town hall, find out where Jenna's being held, and get her out of there before you can say 'Sterling Dew! What do you think of that?"

~Catherine~

I shift from foot to foot nervously. "Well how would you do that?" I asked. "I mean.... Ekers is the mayor and the town hall is under his control. She'll be well guarded and well hidden. But... I appreciate this. You can do it if you want."

"Yes! Okay!" Charlotte replies. "Can I do that now?"

I frown. "How about we wait? Ooh, I know, when your shift ends you and someone else can sneak off to Town Hall together, see what you can find. I'll let you pick who. Be on high alert, and report back to me ASAP tomorrow." My heart pounds as I realize: the chase is on. This has truly started.

"Okay," says Charlotte. "Wow, we really are doing this for real, aren't we?"

Exactly what I was thinking. I flash her a smile. "Knowing me, did you think we wouldn't be?"

Felix adjusts his apron, and glances over at Vera. She didn't seem to be very happy. Felix knew why, but he didn't regret it. Vera was nice, but she was just a tad bit . . . annoying. He shrugged it off, and set to work frosting the cake with small, delicate motions.

Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Vera turning visible again. So, Jenna's missing. Imbeciles, I'll have it figured out where she's gone by tomorrow. Who would do this. Where would they put her. Grudges, powers, discrimination-oh! The library! Adress books!

Felix dropped his frosting spatula, the plastic instrument clattering onto the wooden board, and he dashed into the back room, where Catherine was. She was sorting out jars of preserves.

"Hey!" he said panting, "Do you have an idea of where they would put her? The people who kidnapped your daughter?"

"Well, I'm not sure."

"Okay, thanks!" Felix said.

If she's not sure that mean's this is operating in utmost secrecy - assassination, a dagger in the dark. Most likely not a heavily guarded government area, some place where nobody would expect.

Felix peered over the counter. Blossom (Victoria Blossom) was there, taking early-morning orders. He waited a little, and then she came in with her notepad.

"Hey! Victoria!" Felix hissed.

"Hmm? What?" Victoria asked, turning around.

"I'm heading to the library after work. Can you come? I might need your mind-reading, if we're going to figure out where Jenna is."

"Sure. Okay, I've got to rush, seeya."

Felix nodded, and went back to his station. There was a loud smack, and a puff of flour behind him, as Vera slammed down the dough she was working with.

Felix didn't know why (emotions were overrated), but he felt a sort of sick feeling in his stomach, something as bitter as the cake he was frosting was sweet.

~~~
I'm thinking that the two of them head to the library, Felix figures out a couple of locations, and he and Victoria go around checking them out, some other people join them, and action happens? Hope this is okay!
