Featherwood Hall RP

Featherwood Hall RP

---

Heyo mayo, I'm here with another RP that I'm probably not going to participate in B)

---

Basic worldbuilding:

Featherwood Hall is a boarding high-school out in the middle of nowhere–it's a pretty good boarding school, and famous for its many mysteries, that some would even call ... magic. There's never been any confirmation to these tales, but there have been rumors–rumors of clocks that don't tick the same, and fountains of youth, and magical staircases.

And is it true?

Of course.

Your characters are brand new freshmen, and they've just moved to Featherwood Hall. On the first day, the mysterious librarian, Mr. Yin, asks them to retrieve a book he lost from somewhere in the school–and so, your characters set off on an adventure, full of magic and shenanigans, to retrieve Mr. Yin's book.

Character sheet:

Pronouns:

Appearance:

Personality:

Powers (optional, you can be totally normal):

Other:

---

Uh, yea! The worldbuilding can literally be whatever you want it to be. Add a magical ghost who haunts an abandoned classroom? Yea! There's a minotaur living on the fourth floor? No problem! XD okay but you probably get the point–worldbuilding is generally up to you.

Thaaaaaat's it! I'll pop in from time to time to answer questions/add lore, and I might join when I'm less busy :D

Priscilla-
I stare at Pansy in shock. Can she... read minds? "No," she grunts, clutching her head, "I- I' don't know." She sounds like she's on the verge of a nervous breakdown. "So many voices," she whispers.
I glance around. Mr. Weiss is nowhere to be seen! We've lost him! Curses! "Sorry," mutters Pansy. "Didn't mean to slow anyone down." Now I'm freaking out. She keeps answering my thoughts! It's terrifying! But we need to focuse. We have to find Mr. Wiess and the wand then fiind the book, but how can we do that with Pansy's face turning green? Someone's going to have to stay with her while someone else goes to find Mr. Weiss.
I voice my thoughts to the group (for those of us who can't read minds). "I'll stay with her," I volenteer. "If no one else wants to." Actually, I'd rather do anything else, but Pansy needs help!
If Pansy doesn't like this, just ignore it.

Lucille~

I put a finger to my chin thoughfully and survey Pansy. "I wonder if something triggered your mind-reading abilities," I say. "I didn't get my ability until I...uh...." I trail off, realizing that explaining how I got my power would mean telling what it is, and I don't feel quite ready to experience all those memories again.

"What's your ability?" asks Poppy.

I sigh. I walked right into that one.

Pansy looks at me curiously and bites her lip. Then I remember, she can read minds. Don't worry, I won't tell, she mouths.

Thanks, I think, since she can read my thoughts. She nods, getting the message.

Priscilla suggests that she stays with Pansy - who needs to adjust to being able to read minds - while some of us try to find Mr. Weiss.

"How about we split up?" says Mike. "Half of us stay with Pansy and Priscilla, and half go find Mr. Weiss?"

Priscilla-
I nod vigurously at Mike's idea. I really dont want to be left alone with someone who can read minds.

I'm really behind - sorry!

~Ellington~

I woke up that morning, having forgotten that it was a very special day. The sun shone through the little openings in my lilac colored curtains, and although there was barely any sunshine peaking in through the cracks, it was so blinding that I had to pull my covers up and over my eyes, to shield me from the brightness.

I stayed there, just thinking about nothing and enjoying being in bed for a minute or two. My auburn-red hair was tangled and messy, smushed up against my white-with-pink-polka-dots pillow. My eyes were as heavy as a hundred pounds of bricks, and they were glued together, unable to open fully.

Just as I was getting relaxed fully again, like I could almost fall back asleep, my alarm went off. I had it set to make a nice, peaceful sound, so it wouldn't put me in a bad mood when I started off my day, but I was still annoyed that it had to go off at all.

It went off at 7:00 A.M., but I was always awake before then, so what was really the point?

But, then again, I never actually took the time to reset my alarm so it would stop going off every morning, so I guess it didn't bother me that much.

I stretched my arm, with great effort, over to my nightstand, where my alarm was sitting, still playing peaceful music, and shut it off, although my hand lingered on snooze for quite a while.

In fact, I was about to press snooze.

I mean, it wasn't like I was doing anything that day... right?

And then I jolted out of bed and ran over to the calendar that was hanging next to my closet door so quickly you could have been fooled that I had Apparated, like from Harry Potter.

My heart was racing a mile a minute, and I squinted to make sure I was looking at the right day, but I wasn't mistaken.

Today, August 21, 2018 (I don't know when the school's taking place!), I was going to attend my first day at Featherwood Hall.

...

I'll write more tomorrow, or the day after, or something like that!

Happy Tuesday/whenever your'e reading this!

Priscilla-
Half the kids hurry off to find Mr. Wiess. The rest of us stand beside Pansy awkwardly. "Should we get the school nurse?" I ask.
"No," Pansy says. She's sweating a little, but it looks like she's finally getting a grip. "I'll be alright. I just need some water, please."
"I'll get some," I volenteer. I'm still squeamish about being around a mind-reader. Eep, she probably knows I am because she can read my mind! How embarassing! I hurry off, to find some water. Maybe I can get some from one of the gargoyles....

Alyssa is defintiely supposed to come across as pretty judgemental here, she definitely holds a grudge against Priscilla for kind-of-not-actually causing her to owe Mr. Weiss a favour. ALSO, @dreamiing, if you're not OK with Astra staying with Pansy and then leaving with Priscilla to get water then it didn't happen. Sorry if I controlled your charry a bit too much.

Alyssa~

Everybody splits up, with at least two-thirds of the students stampeding up the stairs. "I'll stay." I say, the effect of my statement being slightly spoiled since everybody's already split up. "Don't you still owe Mr. Weiss a favour?" Lucille asks. I shrug and say; "If he wants me to do something for him that bad he can find me." I think maybe staying with someone who's having a panic attack is a teensy bit more important.

"Should we get the school nurse?" Priscilla asks anxiously.

"No, I'll be alright. I just need some water, please." Priscilla immediately volunteers to get some water, as well as Astra for some reason, and I swiftly stamp out the feeling of betrayed surprise that flares in my chest. Didn't think you'd be that spineless.

So Priscilla and Astra scamper off to 'go get Pansy some water' (I snort at that) and leave the rest of us standing around awkwardly.

Good grief. If Pansy being a mindreader made Priscilla that uncomfortable then she shouldn't have volunteered to stay with her in the first place.

Not to say I'm super comfortable with anyone being able to read my mind, but how heartless is it to leave someone who's obviously in distress? Pansy's probably a lot more uncomfortable with it than I am, honestly. Anyway, if you don't have enough self-control to reign in your own thoughts that's kind of on you. Because it's also gonna be the mind-reader's issue as well, maybe keep a lid on the worst stuff.

"That's a little judgemental..." Pansy says, rubbing her head. "They really were just getting me some water." Oo-kay, that is terrifying, I admit it. But in a good way! Spooky power for sure. I don't bother to hide my skeptical-mixed-with-slightly-unnerved look. "Whatever." I say, shrugging. Man, I've been doing a lot of that today. I turn back to look at the wrought iron stairway a bit closer and notice one of the glass book-display cabinets was open.

Didn't that have a book in it...?

I knew it did. It was the same one I'd been staring at before Mr. Weiss showed up.

~~~~~~~~~
I was thinking the 'book' was amimic or something? Sorry this didn't really drive the plot forward, I wanted to post something but still not totally clear on who's stayed with Pansy or left to find Mr Weiss yet =P
Priscilla-
Almost as soon as Astra and I have gone out of sight of Pansy, I realize going to get her water wasn't smart. Where are we supposed to find water? There aren't any gargoyles in the library (which is probably smart) so no go there.
I turn to Astra. "Where do we find water?" I inquire shyly. Astra opens her mouth to answer, but is cut off before she has a chance to say anything.
"I'll help you find water!" sqeaks an excited voice. I turn to view the bookshelf from which it comes. There's nothing there. Except... A squirrel? IN A LIBRARY??? "You'll want to look in the elements section!" it squeaks. "Follow me!" Before we can reply, he's off. I gaze at Astra in bewilderment and hurry after him.
Before long, I here a gurgle. What is that? Water? I turn down an ailse and halt in amazement. My jaw drops. Before me, books are stakced downward like a staircase. Cassacading down from the topmost book which is open is WATER. Astra slams into me. "Hey!" she cries in annoyance. "Look ou- WOOOOOOOAH!" We've found water all right.
"There ya' go!" squeaks the squirell. He turns to dash away.
"Wait!" I cry. "What's your name? And, um, do you have a cup?" But the squirell is already gone. I look at Astra. She shrugs.
"Let's get some water," she says, and strides forward confidnetly. I scurry after her.
Hi! Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I was on a trip for the past few weeks. :)
Poppy
I head out after Mr. Weiss with Hawk, Lavvy, and Lucille.* We head out the library doors, which is actually a huge stone archway with strange symbols carved along the outside. A curtain dangling from the arch blocks the library from the rest of the school.
"I think he went this way," Lavvy says, pointing left. We head off in that direction, and see a white glimmer disappear into a doorway a few yards ahead. We break into a run. The room we've entered has large windows looking out on the school grounds. It's a classroom, with desks lined up in rows. My history classroom, actually. (History is truly strange--who knew that there was a magical island off the coast of Ireland that only appears every seven years? They certainly didn't teach this stuff at my old school.) We arrive just in time to see Mr. Weiss slide straight through a glass cabinet containing various historical artifacts (Excalibur, the shield of Aegis, Mjolnir, stuff like that) and somehow fit himself into a golden goblet the size of an ostrich egg. Hawk tries the cabinet door. Locked, of course.
Lucille's hopping on one foot. "What's wrong?" I ask. "Something...in...my...shoe!" she says, pulling it off. Out tumbles a small sparkling object. I bend to look at it. It's too small to tell what it is, so I pull out my magnifying glass and peer through it. Instantly I jump back. "Whoa!" Lavvy says. The object, which turns out to be a golden key, just grew from the size of a pinky fingernail to the size of a normal key. I stare at my magnifying glass. Apparently there's more to it than meets the eye.
Hawk turns the key in the lock and empties the goblet onto the floor. Mr. Weiss appears, dusting himself off and looking pleased. "Well done," he says. "I do believe that you all have the makings of book finders. I apologize for the lack of explanation, but I did want to run a little test, see what you were made of. You passed with flying colors." He gently sets the goblet back into the cabinet. "Now, where are the rest of you?"
*Y'all can change this if you wanted your character to stay behind/another character wanted to come.
OK, this is a little later than I planned to write, but oh well!
Priscilla-
Astra and I search for a cup. We're about to give up, when I spot a cup- a goblet really- on the highest shelf. It looks like gold, with tiny rubies circling it. Neat, (and very tiny) writing circles it. It's so high up I can't read it. A tiny rain cloud rests over it, perpetually filling it. As I stare, I can see the water evaporating out of the cup! I groan. "How are we supposed to reach that?" Astra wonders. I chew my lip and glance over at the books. Normally, stepping on books is a terrible idea, but these books have been spouting water and aren't hurt.
I hurry over to the bookshelf and began tearing off books. I'm begging to wonder if getting a cup of water is worth all this...
About fifteen minutes later, Astra stretches her hand, higher, higher... "GOT IT!!!" she shouts waving the goblet around and wearing a huge grin. It fades quickly. With the sharp, sudden gestures Astra has made, the book-staircase begans to shudder. Astra's eyes widen.
CRASH!!!
I try to duck but a giant book on clouds bops me on the head. My vision swirls. I stagger. Books tumble around me as I drop to the ground. My last thought is, For a cup of WATER???
Poppy
Mr. Weiss leads us back to the library. He gasps in horror when we enter the room. Priscilla is lying unconscious in a pool of water, books scattered around her, and Astra standing nearby looking shocked.
"Outrageous!" Mr. Weiss says. "Blatant destruction--our highly esteemed water books, used as stepstools--"
He goes on like this for a while as Lavvy and I try to revive Priscilla. "In Matilda, they dump cold water on someone to wake them up," I say. Astra gives a bitter laugh. "Yeah, I wonder where we're going to find water." She scoops up a goblet that's lying in Priscilla's limp hand, fills it with water, and dumps it on Priscilla's head. Priscilla gasps and sits straight up, feeling her head and wincing. "Thanks," she says, getting to her feet shakily with Astra's help. Astra fills the goblet again and we move back to the other side of the library, where everyone else is waiting around Pansy. Lucille* and Alyssa are standing with Pansy.
Mr. Weiss finally seems to come out of his rage. "Alright," he says, looking at Alyssa. "Now, your favor. I require some bindroot so that I can repair some books, but it lays outside the school building and, as a resident ghost, I am not permitted to leave the building. You may choose someone to accompany you. The rest of you may begin looking for the book. I suggest you stay together and take the western passage."
*I forgot that Lucille was back with Pansy so ignore what I said about her coming with them to find Mr. Weiss.
I shift from foot to foot nervously. My shoes squeak loudly. I wince at the sound. I'm glad the others found the wand they needed to find the book. I sure hope Mr. Yin doesn't have an expected time for us to find that book....
We still haven't found the book, right?
