'Prompt' Exchange

'Prompt' Exchange Thread!

A thread for random ideas you thought up but are probably never going to write/a place to brainstorm cool plots, whether or not you end up going any further.

Maybe you'll inspire someone else with cute, heartfelt, mysterious, angsty, or flat-out weird ideas? Maybe you have a really cool first line or interesting premise, but don't know where to use it? Maybe you're looking for something to motivate or inspire you, but don't know where to start? Or perhaps you just want to design an OC without writing a whole story, or concoct an outline for an overly-convoluted scheme? Perhaps you really want to see more post-apocalypse cyberpunk or a fresh take fantasy or pure fluff-mance stories, or something niche and oddly specific, and want to egg random people on until they finally write it for you?

Well why not try exchanging with others? Drop off ideas that you might not want to write an entire thing about, and pick up other people's ideas to test them out. Maybe you'll find a new favourite genre or writer; maybe you'll finally cure your writers' block. Challenge yourself! And of course, have fun!

I've actually read a reincarnation romance story before, and it was actually really good. It got turned into a drama I think. Anyways, yeah it seems pretty complicated to write one.

Ah, I'm so glad you could make something out of these prompts! (Relatively speaking.. But, yeah, no, I'm super happy that these prompts can inspire stories to emerge from them!)

And that's also quite interesting! I bet writing a story similar to the prompt I mentioned would be quite difficult—needing to juggle so many things going on in the story!! I've actually never tried writing a whole story based around reincarnation (or at least a good one). Though I haven't written anything about it, I do find reading content like it quite interesting and captivating! I'd be interested to hear(? read?) about what your story is, or at least the basics!!

inspired by Jaybells's "Scars being more light than dark (they tend to shine)" and "things that mend?" prompts and Hollyshock's (hi it's so good to see you again!!) "kintsugi" prompt. Feedback and title ideas appreciated!

you fractured me into

a thousand glittering pieces of

flesh bone blood

and then you

sewed me back together,

needle carefully piercing

my too-pale skin, and you

grew a garden of embroidery flowers

around my scars;

violet daisy daffodil

to distract from the pain.

and then you

glued me back together,

casting my scars

in gold, and you

inlaid shining precious stones

beneath my skin;

ruby topaz emerald

so that i might forget

that it was you—

you who shattered me and tore

me apart,

you who lit the match that reduced me to

a smoldering, acrid pile of ashes,

and you may paint over my mistakes,

oils smooth across my skin,

and call it a masterpiece,

and sign your artist’s signature all

over me but

the scars are still there, running spidery and

light across my porcelain skin,

every place you touched

transformed into an angry gash,

branding me—

but i’ve grown to love these scars because

they remind me of

how deep your knife cuts, of

how badly you’ve wounded me,

and no matter what you do to make me

beautiful once more

(a garden of threaded blossoms;

a gossamer of molten sunlight,

a canvas of the richest hues),

it does not change the fact that i am broken

beyond repair

Pangolin! Hi hi! It's so great to see you again!! :D

Your poem is absolutely gorgeous and awe-inspiring!! I love the emotion and depth behind the meaning and the telling—how they were once whole and beautiful, but shattered and broken into pieces, and the desperate ideals of the other person wanting to bring back perfection and to bring the forgetting and forgiving of ever having created the accident, but dealing with the consequences of remembrance and the acceptance of the flaws. It's a beautiful retelling of how, even though there are flaws, and no matter how much one tries to cover it up, there's still memories and permanent damage still present. (Or at least that's my interpretation, though the poem is absolutely amazing nonetheless!!)

I'm so happy that you could make something so beautiful and breathtaking with the silly little prompt I mentioned, and I love how you combined multiple prompts together!

Aah thank you so much!! And your interpreation was pretty spot on! I wasn't very confident about how I portrayed the emotion/meaning of this poem, so the fact that you were able to pick up on that -- and liked my poem -- means a lot <33

And I don't think your prompts were silly at all! I think I might write a story or something with one of them, we'll see.

But yeah, it's so good to see you again! I missed you <33

Here's one!

-”You know those odd little glass bottles sitting in dusty corners of thrift shops and attics, the ones that have strange, crystalline liquid flowing around in them, the ones that are corked up securely as if someone was afraid of something escaping out of it, the ones that are fogged up inside so that you can't see the interior, the ones with grubby lables hanging on their necks by a frayed loop of thread with 'Not for sale' scrawled on the yellowed paper in illegible handwriting, the ones that catch the sunlight and throw it on the wooden floorboards in a iridiscent rainbow of colors unseen by the human eye...? Yes? You thought you were really smart when you swiped that vial, weren't you? Well now look what you've got yourself into...“

Yes. This is the result of me staring into my mom's half-depleted bottle of perfume for forty-five seconds. Feel free to interpret it as you wish, with quotation marks or without.

just a thing I randomly wrote as a continuation of the above :)

Alan froze. He had thought the cave was empty; people didn't go into caves except to explore, and they didn't talk about bottles and potions if they were exploring. And yet he clearly heard an elderly, rather low, somewhat huffy voice coming from the tunnel ahead.

His curiosity aroused, he crept forward and peered around an outcropping of rock. A small room came into view, cluttered with shelves and - what else - bottles. Some were on the floor close to Alan; he could crane his neck and see the labels. "McGregor's Cinnamon Spice," read one. "Shalimar Perfume," read another. But the bottles were full of things that were most definitely not spices and perfumes, although those would have been strange enough to find in a cave; through the clear glass Alan could see clear, brilliant, iridescent liquids, like molten jewels.

At one end of the small stone room stood an old man, in a long purple robe so dark it was almost black, with long drooping sleeves and a hood. His beard was also long, but it was white, providing a startling contrast to the robe and the dark-green tunic he wore under the robe. On his head was a pointed wizard hat. He might have presented a frightening picture, but there was a comfortable, not unkindly air about him; his shoes were worn and soft, and his lined face and sparkling little eyes had a sort of fatherliness that made him look benign.

Next to him stood a young man, with wildly floppy straw-colored hair that went every which way, a very pale face, and wide blue eyes. He was tall and lanky, and his clothes were too large for him, and very wrinkled.

"But Professor Magnus," he was saying, his eyes very pleading, "if you only give me an extra credit for that project I did, I'll be able in no time to pass the class, and then think how much credit you'll get! Oh, Professor, think of what I'm feeling. I only wanted to pinch a bit of perfume for my girlfriend. How was I to know it was a potion that would turn her into a dragon? She's so cross now she won't speak to me, and there's nothing I can do about it - and if you make me fail the class I'll feel even worse! I know I didn't study, I know I failed the last project, but I did do some things well!"

Professor Magnus held up a worn finger. He looked stern, but Alan thought he saw a bit of a twinkle in his gray eyes.

"You should have thought of that before you decided to steal something from that poor old shopkeeper," he said. "As to your girlfriend, why don't you try writing her a letter of apology, and I'll see to it that she's turned back into a girl. The poor thing doesn't deserve to suffer for your lack of conscience. But -" and here the old man's eyes grew sterner - "I shall not allow you to pass the course. You must re-enroll, and study harder this time." With that he turned on his heel and walked out of the room. Alan and the straw-haired young man were left by themselves.

Here is something I wrote, like, YEARS ago, and thought that I would share it with you:

~~~
Arthur was alone in the room, but it felt like a million eyes were watching. Goosebumps rolled up his arms as he picked up a note. His eyes widened as he read. Get out It simply said. He stuffed the note in his pocket as he backed out the door. Arthur turned and ran. He knew he shouldn’t have tried to solve this case. He turned his head. I thought I heard someone. He thought to himself as he slowed down as he rounded the corner. Breathing heavily, he sat down on a bench to think. Why were all these things happening to him? First, he found a clue to a case his dad was trying to solve and Arthur thought he could solve it himself, after all, he was 13 years old. Arthur laid back and he felt something poke his back. He turned around slowly. “Phew!” he said, relived, “Only a tree branch.”
And then, when he turned back around, a strange man with a huge hat that covered his eyes stood in front of him. It felt like forever until Arthur finally had the courage to ask, “What do you want?” in a small, timid voice.
“Just tell me what you know.” The man answered in a gravely voice.
“No!” Arthur said, defiantly. “I won’t!”
“Fine,” he said as he cracked his knuckles, “We’ll do this the hard way.”
Arthur felt like he shouldn’t have said no. “Maybe we could work things out,” he said, as the man got closer. “I’ll do what ever you want!” he pleaded, as soon as the man got as close as a few inches away.
“Good.” He said and turned to walk away. “Are you coming?” he asked, in a sweet, enticing voice.
Arthur gulped. “Yes.” He said as the man walked.
And Arthur followed.
~~~

Take it where you want to go, and we'll see what happens... ;)

This idea came to me either in a dream or when I was falling asleep, I don't remember which. You know how the moon is responsible for the tides and in that way sort of "governs" the ocean? I thought that in a fantasy world an interesting expression would be "It's the moon of [insert charrie's name here]'s sea," meaning that it was what governed the charrie's world. For instance, if someone was constantly motivated by his love for a beautiful princess (just to have a simple example) he could say that the princess was the moon of his sea.

Oh yes I totally agree! That is an amazing expression.

Oohhhhh, that is a splendid mini-premise! I love that kind of titling idea, it kinda reminds me of the way a lot of series/books/movies (etc.) in Eastern Asia are named! That deeper meaning and poetic ring is just so very lovely in my opinion~ <3
