Chatterbox: KYNGDOM™ Power of Fin

UNDERWATER BALL GOSSIP&

UNDERWATER BALL GOSSIP

The sand is golden, the water is pleasantly bubbly, and everybody who’s anybody in Southeast Kyngdom is here. We’re your proud Sea Anemone hosts, Actiniaria and Hexacorallia, reporting LIVE from the most exclusive event of the year: the Enchantment Above the Sea ball, South Kyndom’s first-ever dry land-themed underwater ball. If you see us milling around, come say hi and give us the dish on all the watery gossip! You’ll recognize us by our wavy pink tentacles (quick shout-out to our sponsor, the Subaqueous Salon and Sea Spa).

Of course, in about twenty minutes, we expect the next Guardian of Fin to be announced, and believe us, the room is simply awash with anticipation. You can’t swing an underwater lasso without bumping into a group of whispering shellfish. But first, let’s turn our attention to the incredibly glamorous attendees and give you unlucky landlubbers listening to our broadcast a little taste of the P-A-R-T-Y.

Land ho, this place is sparkling. Each twenty-foot-tall underwater cactus is decked out in glimmering lights. The sand on the floor has been carefully blended with real gold flakes, creating a shimmering carpet underfoot. The punch is flowing, and graceful seahorses are passing out dry land-themed appetizers: miniature sea cucumber tacos, tiny teacups of coral chili, and nacho towers topped off with smoked seashells. We’re hoping to catch a glimpse of the celebrity chef that the organizers swam in for the occasion—he’s a clownfish who trained off the coast of France.

Most of the guests have adopted a look that we’d have to term “highbrow underwater cowboy.” We’re seeing a lot of denim gowns encrusted in barnacles and diamonds. Some of the wealthier guests are wearing silk bandanas and golden spurs. There’s even a cowboy hat or two—ooh, we’re seeing a scuffle unfold on the dance floor! There’s gold-tinted sand swirling through the water! Hold up one second, we’re getting the 411…apparently a Fangtooth Fish attempted to dance with a Vampire Squid, who turned out to be the date of a very muscular Frilled Shark. The sand just cleared, and neither Fish nor Shark is anywhere to be seen. Security here is no joke!

Naturally, the Powers are here in full force. They’re flexing their powerful…do dragons have muscles? They have to, right? They’re looking fabulous in formalwear specially designed by none other than the untouchable CERES AND COMPANY (we’ll hold for applause). And these drama-prone Kyngdomites even seem to be getting along, at least for now.

We’d be remiss not to mention the cornerstone of the décor: a giant ice sculpture in the middle of the dance floor, surrounded by tantalizing desserts (salt-water granitas, anyone?). The sculpture is carved into the shape of a massive and very realistic rodeo scene, but instead of a cowgirl, the artist depicted a breathtakingly accurate version of our very own Finny—the heir apparent to the Guardian of Fin. The little dolphin is portrayed so accurately that she looks practically real. In fact, if you glance at the sculpture at just the right moment, you can almost see her eyes move. Magical! At the base of the ice sculpture is a keypad that requires a code, but it’s unclear what it’s meant for. Does anyone have any information? Come find us and spill the deets—we’re all tentacles.

The dancing is being put on hold for a moment, because it’s time for one of the much-anticipated activities: some of the lucky guests are about to try their fins at roping sea cows. The massive creatures are being released from a series of gilded pens, while guests shriek and attempt to catch them with lassos made from kelp. This activity certainly fits the theme, but it’s looking like no one can manage to catch a sea cow. In fact, the cows appear to be taunting the guests. We can’t believe it—they’re lining up and dancing a can-can! Hold on, now they’re swimming over the heads of the guests and disappearing into the deep blue of the ocean. The organizers look irate.

Having just slipped over to try a bit of the punch, your faithful correspondents are happy to report that the punch is especially tasty this year. Jeweled Rockskipper!

There’s something a bit different about it…a certain fizz…a tang on the back of the tongue. Perhaps the celebrity chef is trying out a new seaweed-infused simple syrup? In the interest of full gossipy disclosure, we’ve been hearing rumors that the punch is spiked—but we’d have to try another cup in order to report back for sure.

Ooh, Imagine Sea Dragons is about to take the stage: their hair is gelled, their buttons are shelled, and they look ready to rock. Hope they play their hit single, Radioactive (Materials are Leaking Into the Ocean—Thanks a Lot, Humans). Looks like it’s time for these anemones to get their groove on—come find us at the dance floor and tells us what’s really going on at this party. The wilder the rumor, the more we want to hear it! Actiniaria and Hexacorallia out.

Oh, I was kinda talking about myself :) I've been barely posting these last few days. So I'm sorry Icy, I didn't mean to point any fingers. And Claaws, you're amazing! I think school's pulling in hard on all of us, so I don't blame you at all. Thanks for the amazing posts from Cealani!

@Viola?, if you want to do some flashback-esque scenes, you could do that. And the "my mother" thread is on the first page of the RP board, and may show up as "my mot".

@Claaws, Icy's actually been on the my mother thread for ages, and Catastrophe has a secret...

Alright so sorry Icy for controlling your charrie so much. I guess I waa just a bit confused on what was going on. So again I'm so sorry and here to make amends. ;)

~Caelani

I swipe my tail and take off into the sky. Whist is blocked at the door and I quickly grab Ronan in my talons and flap my wings into the air. I catch a wind current and start gliding. Ronan climes onto my back and clutches onto my feathers tightly. "Were is this place where Catastrophe is attacking?" I ask worriedly. "And the Ppwerfriend, is she okay?"

"Icy?" Ronan stammered. "I-I don't know."

"What about Eico. And the ship. What happened to them?"

"How do you think I know all these things?" Ronan asked.

"Well....maybe because you um, knew about Catastrophe attacking?"

The rest of the flight was silent as we each thought our own thoughts. Finally he pulled on my feathers and whispered, "There it is."

Okay so should we continue this on this thread or the mother thread? Has the fight already started and im just very lost.....?

(October 4, 2016 - 2:38 pm)

I think it's continuing on the Aslahari thread. And yes, the battle has started, but Ronan and Lycaella and the rest aren't there yet. They're on the way.

And actually, Lycaella won't even be with them soon. She has to get back home so that she doesn't miss her mom's visit. Probably no one will have remembered, but her parents visit once a month and they don't know about her travels, so she'll be in really big trouble if they come and she's not there.

Lycaella~

Thump, thump, thump.

The sound of footsteps, the sound of my heartbeat.

Thump, thump, thump.

I imagine an echo as the rest of the shipwreck survivors following. No one's in front of me, so I imagine myself leading them. But of course, I'm alone. I left the group a while ago. I had--no, I still have--to get back home. And of course, I'm not there yet, so I keep walking. I'm glad we rested last night, even if it wasn't for that long.

Thump, thump, thump.

"What's that?" she had said. Who is she? I had wondered. A tigress out here was strange, but maybe she had been at the ball. It was a little after midnight. We had set up camp in the place I found, and although a few of us were asleep, many found we weren't able to. She was probably one of them, like me. So I replied.

"It's a notebook. I found it on the ship."

"Oh? What's in it?"

I paused, shrugging slightly to mask my hesitation. I supposed that a tiger would be trustworthy. Animals generally were, and besides, I'd always identified with cats.

"I don't know," I said. "I wrote most of it, but the first page is someone else's. A scientist, I think. Look..." I turned the notebook to the first page as she sat by my side and held it so she could see. The light from the fire in the center of the camp just barely illuminated it well enough to read. I imagine she could see better than I could, though. I gave her a moment to skim the strange formulas and the hastily scribbled notes.

"What does that mean? 'sep. of shad.'," she asked.

"I'm trying to figure that out," I said. "I think 'sep' stands for 'separation', but I'm not sure about 'shad'."

"Shad... shod... shade..." she murmured. I stared at the words, watching them warp in the flickering shadows cast by the fire. As if she'd read my mind, the tigress exclaimed,

"Shadow!"

Someone nearby looked up at us.

"Sorry," I said. They looked a little confused, but they turned away again. The tigress and I exchanged glances before turning back ourselves.

"I never caught your name," I told her.

"It is Princess Tigeress," she said.

"I'm Lycaella," I reply. Then, half-jokingly, "your Highness."

I'm not quite sure, but I think she was smiling. I smiled too, and looked back at the notebook.

"Well, we know now, but it's not much help," I sighed.

"What does it mean to separate one's shadow from their body?" the Princess agreed. I nodded.

"And why would anyone do it?" I wondered. We had been pondering it when someone gave a shout. Why was it that everyone was shouting all the time? Besides the fact that there were things to shout about. I shook myself out of my head. The person was speaking, and I didn't want to miss anything.

"We have to go to Aslahari," they had said. "We have to fight Catastrophe!" I didn't know why they were saying that with so many B.I.G. workers around, given that they were generally on Catastrophe's side and not the animals'. I didn't say anything, although the Princess looked a bit worried. People had been shouting chaotically. The person--I could see now it was a girl--was pacing around the fire, calming them. A lively discussion sprung up about the battle. I didn't listen to most of it. I'm a traveler, not a warrior, although they can be similar. But I had realized that I knew where we were, so when the question of how to get there came up, I offered what I knew.

And then I'd heard wings. Others had too, and some of us stopped talking to look fearfully up into the sky. But the creature was upon us, descending rapidly. Before any of us had time to think, it had landed. It was Cealani, carrying Ronan.

The girl--Vivean, I had heard someone call her--ran up to them.

"Ronan!" she said. "We need to go to Aslahari! We got a Morse code message, Catastrophe's there, and Icy, and..." She continued, but I'm not sure if he heard.

"Come on," he said, more to Caelani than anyone else. Ronan had stepped away from them then, and I lost sight of him for a moment. He had returned carrying a dagger. Everyone else had taken their weapons out when we were talking about equipment.

"Are we ready?" Ronan shouted.

"Yes!" we had roared. I hadn't, actually--I don't roar. Or shout. I'm not that kind of person. I noticed a few of the B.I.G. workers didn't look so enthusiastic, but no one else seemed to. And so we set out.

We had actually gone the wrong direction at first, because Ronan didn't know where we were going, but had gone anyway so as not to ruin the moment. I had managed to catch up to him, though, and we changed course. I told the directions to everyone who asked over and over, until finally I had just written them down in a blank page of the notebook and given it to Ronan. Eventually, people stopped asking, and we all walked in relative silence for a while. I had thought in the silence, because there was nothing else to do, and I had remembered that when Ronan and Caelani had landed by the fire, neither of them had cast a shadow. I had found Princess Tigeress near the front of the group, and in a whisper I told her. Her eyes had widened as she looked at me then, and it reminded me of how my mom looks when she's interested.

That was when I had remembered. My mom was visiting in a few days. I was supposed to be at home!

Thump, thump, thump.

I pause at a creek to refill my water bottle. I'm glad the others let me go, even if it was only because they had directions and I could call backup.

Thump, thump, thump.

Not too far to go. I do the math in my head again. I should be able to make it home before Mom does.

Thump, thump, thump.

~---

Out of charrie. Princess Tigeress, my apologies. I needed someone for the story, and I chose you. I hope you're okay with this!

Everyone, is Lycaella's going home okay with you? I don't think anyone knew she was planning to go back after the ball, which is okay, but she was, so... Actually, I don't know why I'm saying that. Lycaella's not important enough to anyone that it would matter. Well, just in case, I guess.

I hope this goes through. I spent about 2 hours on it.

Thank you!

Wow 2 hours straight? That is commitment right there.

Also why is no one else posting? I knew there were a lot of people on the ship. And at the ball. Where'd you guys all go?

~Caelani

Ronan had the directions, and the girl who gave them had left. I didn't know where exactly she was going but I could really care less.

A tiger though behind me kept staring at the ground near us, as if expecting a shadow from the faint light. Every other creature cast shadows but us. Me and Ronan. Who's shadows were gone. Had joined the other side.

It's amusing, though, if you think about it. Our shadows. The thing cast to the ground because of light, getting up and walking away. Against us.

And that just reminded me of Claaws. What would she have done, in a situation like this? To be honest, by now she would have lost it on everyone and bit their heads off.

It was a long and tireding treack all night. But when dawn broke it broke on a city in the distance, and I heard the animals gasp with aww.

Thank you! Thank you so much for your entire post.

I think they all went to the Aslahari thread on the RP board, probably because they're in Aslahari, so why not post on the thread that's set there? Be sure to read the my mother thread first if you haven't already. A lot of backstory is in there. Also a lot of charries passing out for various reasons. But that seems to happen everywhere, so...
